How do I change default session from plasma x11 to plasma wayland in OpenSUSE tumbleweed?
I run latest OpenSUSE tumbleweed, KDE only. I wish to switch the default session from Plasma X11 to Plasma wayland. What should I do to achieve this? The login manager I use comes from sddm. And I can indeed manually log in from the login manager to a wayland session.

After upgrading Kubuntu from 18.04 to 18.10 and that to Plasma 5.14.5 through the "backports" PPA I am lucky enough to face almost no bugs, except annoying notifications saying "kdeinit5 closed unexpectedly" enter image description here enter image description here It happens when I take some normal actions in Dolphin: start a new window, new tab, split, refresh. It seems to me that those actions are related to the Dolphin *window*; creating a new folder or deleting something doesn't trigger the error. I read here that kdeinit5 is a process launcher that executes KDE programs and kdeinit loadable modules (KLMs) starting them more efficiently. Using kdeinit5 to launch KDE applications makes starting a typical KDE application a couple times faster and reduces memory consumption by a substantial amount. - But as far as I can tell only Dolphin reports a problem with that. I have not noticed Dolphin operation or that of any part of the desktop being affected at all by this, I would just like to avoid seeing those notifications. Of course, I would like to have a solution that would avoid the error in the first place, but - if that is not possible until a future update etc - I am mainly asking here for a way to simply make those notifications go away. --- I don't know how to debug this, or if the following is useful, but running kdeinit5 dolphin the file manager starts with the usual error while in terminal I get this: ~$ Trying to convert empty KLocalizedString to QString. qt.accessibility.core: Cannot create accessible child interface for object: PlacesView(0x55d3d75565c0) index: 14 kdeinit5: Got EXEC_NEW '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kf5/kio/trash.so' from launcher. kdeinit5: preparing to launch '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kf5/kio/trash.so' kdeinit5: Got EXEC_NEW '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kf5/kio/file.so' from launcher. kdeinit5: preparing to launch '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kf5/kio/file.so' kdeinit5: Got EXEC_NEW '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kf5/kio/file.so' from launcher. kdeinit5: preparing to launch '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kf5/kio/file.so' kdeinit5: Got EXEC_NEW '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kf5/kio/thumbnail.so' from launcher. kdeinit5: preparing to launch '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kf5/kio/thumbnail.so' kf5.kio.trash: Root trash dir "/media/cip/DEPO/.Trash" exists but didn't pass the security checks, can't use it kf5.kio.trash: Directory "/media/cip/DEPO/.Trash-1000" exists but didn't pass the security checks, can't use it Qt: Session management error: networkIdsList argument is NULL Could not find video stream decodeVideoFrame() failed: frame not finished KCrash: crashing... crashRecursionCounter = 2 KCrash: Application Name = kdeinit5 path = /usr/bin pid = 12077 KCrash: Arguments: /usr/bin/kdeinit5 thumbnail local:/run/user/1000/klauncherFKnizM.1.slave-socket local:/run/user/1000/dolphinFjEuPw.5.slave-socket KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/drkonqi from kdeinit sock_file=/run/user/1000/kdeinit5__0 kdeinit5: Got EXEC_NEW '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/drkonqi' from wrapper. kdeinit5: preparing to launch '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/drkonqi' kdeinit5: Got EXEC_NEW '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kf5/kio/thumbnail.so' from launcher. kdeinit5: preparing to launch '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kf5/kio/thumbnail.so' Qt: Session management error: networkIdsList argument is NULL

I have an Ubuntu machine on which I installed KDE and since day 1 the plasmashell process was leaking memory and my panels just became extremely unresponsive over time. Now I would like to check the logs to see if I can find the cause, but I just don't know where they could be. I checked /var/log for a kde or plasmashell directory and I also checked ~/.kde for any sorts of logs, but I couldn't find any. I also checked dmesg and journalctl. The latter had some lines about KScreen, but that's about it. Does KDE/plasmashell even log anything? If so where can I find it?

In KDE Plasma, I can hit Ctrl+Alt+T to open a new Konsole window, but I don't have any shortcut that just opens the currently running Konsole window. Is there any way to do this? I've looked at Keyboard shortcuts in Konsole, in the Global shortcuts, and even in the Panel. Is there any way to achieve this functionality? I'm running KDE Plasma 5.14.5.

I prefer the breeze-dark KDE theme. Unfortunately, some gnome apps (such as Firefox) are problematic. In particular, in text input fields in Firefox, one ends up with white text on a white background or dark text on a dark background. I have: Settings -> colors -> options -> apply colors to non-Qt applications enabled Settings -> Application Style -> Gnome Application Style (GTK): GTK3 Theme: Adwaita-dark Icon theme: Adwaita I am not aware of any Adwaita-dark icon theme after extensive searching. To enable breeze-dark for KDE I have: Settings->Application Style-> Widget Style: Breeze Settings->Workspace Theme -> Desktop Theme: Breeze Dark It should not be necessary, but I have also installed https://addons.mozilla.org/en-Us/firefox/addon/breeze-dark/ . cat ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini [Settings] gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme=true gtk-button-images=1 gtk-cursor-theme-name=ComixCursors-Opaque-Orange gtk-fallback-icon-theme=Numix-Circle gtk-font-name=Liberation Sans Regular 11 gtk-icon-theme-name=Adwaita gtk-menu-images=1 gtk-primary-button-warps-slider=1 gtk-theme-name=Adwaita-dark gtk-toolbar-style=GTK_TOOLBAR_ICONS After all of this, Firefox text input fields still have either white text on a white background or dark text on a dark background, making them impossible to read. (Temporary workaround is to highlight the text in a field so I can see what was entered, but that is very clumsy.) The following question claim this closely related issue was a bug that was fixed: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/243435/kde-problem-with-dark-themes However, I a running Arch Linux with the latest KDE Plasma5 and what appears to be the same issue still exists. However, I notice it mainly in text input fields, not necessarily drop down combo boxes.

I checked my settings and I only receive a message which reads "no bluetooth device connected", but does not give me the option to either * turn bluetooth on or * pair a device I'm using a KDE launcher, plasma. I've used the following commands:

I've used the other recommended Commands like bluetoothctl or bluez and received the same result. I'm using Linux and the Konsole terminal. Can anyone help me solve the problem?

I am trying to install KDE Plasma 5 (for compatibility reasons) on Arch Linux (installed through EndeavourOS) without using pacman, as, from what I can tell, it is already updated to Plasma 6 and partial updates are bad. So I went with the Nix package manager, hoping that installed this way, I could keep it relatively isolated (if there are better ways, please let me know too). I started with nix-env -iA nixpkgs.libsForQt5, hoping to install all the necessary packages, but I got a lot of warnings about broken or unsupported packages. So I downloaded all packages in there one by one (I also had to run nix-env --set-flag priority 0 akonadi-23.08.5 to get rid of conflicts at /share/mime/icons). Those that did not install are akonadi-mime, fcitx5-configtool, fcitx5-qt, full, kdevelop-unwrapped, kitinerary, kmail-account-wizard, mapbox-gl-native, and pix. Lastly, I had to copy plasma-kactivitymanagerd.service from libsForQt5.kactivitymanagerd to /usr/lib/systemd/user, to be usable from Plasma. I could not figure a way to launch Plasma automatically, so I just did startplasma-wayland. I got to the logo screen, but then it just went black and nothing happened. Here is the error log:

I am not really sure which line (if any at all) relates to the issue, or what it is that I missed (I suppose many things). I had tried to look at Nix-related resources for installing KDE, like this one, but it is for NixOS and does not seem to apply just to the package manager (not sure if Home Manager can use it). What should I do?

How can I add custom entries to "Create New" on KDE Plasma?

I'm using KDE Plasma, and frequently need to package file sets into tar.gz or zip. This usually requires opening Ark, creating a new file, and working from there, which is a run-around. It would be better if I could right-click in the Dolphin workspace for a directory, go the "Create New..." submenu, and pick this file type out; but as of the moment, the only options are: Folder... Text File... LibreOffice Calc/Draw/Impress/Writer... Link to Location/File/Directory/Application... This feels very much like something I should be able to customize, but I unfortunately have no idea where to look for the option. Does anyone know how I can add additional file types to this menu?

I'm using KDE Neon 5.24. I'm using the Application Menu widget as my app launcher instead of the default Application Launcher widget. When I first installed it, the Application Menu widget showed the shutdown and restart buttons in the left-side panel, along with the logout button. After I updated the software today, the shutdown and restart buttons are no longer visible in the left-side panel, as seen in the screenshot below. Is there any way I can get them back? I know I can select the “Shut Down” option from the “Power / Session” sub-menu, but I like the convenience of having the buttons right there on the main panel. enter image description here enter image description here

Tap-to-Click is Shown, but Can't Be Toggled
The touchpad on my laptop is a poor design, because it doesn't recede down into its housing to avoid my thenar and hypothenar's proclivity for inadvertent tap-to-clicks. In Ubuntu 19.10, using this same laptop, I was able to toggle off "Tap to Click", as shown here . However, in Kubuntu 20.04, this option is grayed out (disabled), and cannot be Toggled: enter image description here Is there another way that I might disable Tap-to-Click, given that the GUI isn't offering the ability to toggle this setting?
