I am trying to integrate Red Hat IPA server with corporate LDAP server so that only those users can log in to Red Hat Identity Management UI (IPA) which exist in the corporate LDAP. Currently, everyone is using a root account to log in to Red Hat Identity Management UI and console. I searched through the Red Hat documentation but got confused when it said use authconfig ui or ipa-client-install, and they said use ipa-client-install utility, but they have not explained very clearly how to do so. Anyone knows the steps how to do this integration?

I am a newbie in linux. I purchased a remote baremetal server with Archlinux 9 running on it. I created a bridge network for the KVM VMs to connect to the external network using cockpit console. Next, I created a bridge network using virt manager virbr0 and by mistake, I made this as the master. This made me lose the network access to the server. How can I recover the network. I tried to login using the recovery mode, using chroot and tried to delete the virbr0.nmconnection and the bridge0.nmconnection files, but still I don't have access in the normal mode. I edited the enp2s0.nmconnection file but still server is unreachable. My enp2s0.nmconnection looks like this: [connection] id=enp2s0 uuid=923c1611-a07a-4a22-ae70-85b898e22ebd type=ethernet [ethernet] mac-address=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx permissions= [ipv4] address1=192.168.255.xxx/24 address2=89.163.xxx.xxx/23 Is there any way to recover the network? I can't run NetworkManager in the chroot environment.

On which port will it listen, and for whom? Can non-root users simply activate it when they want to? I'm somewhat baffled by this, as I'm not used to CentOS.

Im using cockpit to have a web interface on my servers and local smaller machines. Im able to add a other system just fine by filling in the required ip (custom ssh port) and username. Clicking works fine and im in the other host now fine. But when i logout or access the same first host from another ip(interface its connected to) the other hosts list is empty. And even when i login again from the former ip, all other hosts are gone. As if its a session only feature. How can i make this switching to other hosts permanently? Im using arch hosts for now, do i need an extra config or package maybe to make the addition permanent?

I have a fresh Ubuntu Server 22.04.3 and Debian 12.1.0 installed and updated. Along with Cockpit and Cockpit virtual machines on both tests machines. I am getting the following errors and warning when looking at the log section in Cockpit:
Failed to read AppArmor profiles list '/sys/kernel/security/apparmor/profiles': Permission denied libvirtd

Failed to open file '/sys/kernel/security/apparmor/profiles': Permission denied libvirtd

Failed to read AppArmor profiles list '/sys/kernel/security/apparmor/profiles': Permission denied libvirtd

Failed to open file '/sys/kernel/security/apparmor/profiles': Permission denied libvirtd
The virtual machines start up and has no issues. However, the errors pop up after every reboot once I click the virtual machines section on Cockpit. These errors only show then, and not when I do NOT go to virtual machines section in Cockpit. So it seems to only start once you go to that section in Cockpit. The /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd does have the line:
/sys/kernel/security/apparmor/profiles r,
My user has also been added to groups libvirt, kvm and sudo. Also, when running the following command without sudo and not as root on the terminal, then I also get a permission denied. I checked the folder permissions and it does have read permissions and belong to the group root:
-shell
cat /sys/kernel/security/apparmor/profiles
Has anyone else experience this issue? Any solution to get it fixed with or without disabling AppArmor for KVM? or can the errors be safely ignored?

I have an old Dell R620 with a dual 10GbE card and Ubuntu 20.04 installed. Cockpit and Cockpit-Machines has been installed (which installs qeum-kvm). Networking is setup using netplan. I'm a complete newbie to Ubuntu. My current setup is:
Router (192.168.1.1) - [Ubuntu Server 20.04] KVM Host (192.168.1.110)
                          - [Ubuntu Server 20.04] VM1 (191.168.1.103)
After following countless guides I finally have a bonded interface that is bridged. The KVM Host and VM can get IPs from the router however the VM cannot ping externally using names (something is up with DNS). The KVM Host can ping 'google.ca' and '8.8.8.8'. The VM **cannot** ping 'google.ca' but **can** ping '8.8.8.8'. Am I missing something else from the netplan file? Does DNS just not work properly through a bridged & bonded interface? Here is the netplan from the KVM Host:

I am not 100% sure if this is the correct exchange to be putting in my networking issues, but the trigger is a Linux system so I feel as though I will have more success here. I am trying to set up a web server that will host a small API that I have written. This VM is running AlmaLinux and has two interfaces: - **enp1s0** - public IP - **enp6s0** - private network The first things I did when I got the AlmaLinux box was enable the web GUI, allow interfaces to be managed by NetworkManager, join the private network and then disable the public interface so that the API is not accessible while I am hooking it all up. To get access to the private network, I VPN into an OPNSense box. I set my API up in docker (podman) and it all works internally, so I decided to enable the public facing interface, *enp1s0*, so that I can see the magic happening in the real world. The good news is that the API is working, so congrats to me for following a tutorial to a T. The bad news is that my PC is no longer able to ping the AlmaLinux box (*Request timed out.*) and the web GUI is not accessible while VPNed in, however all the machines that I have in the private network can ping each other and when I RDP into one of my Windows servers, I can access the web GUI. I thought that the OPNSense box might have been blocking traffic, but it picks up the icmp and allows it through. Routing is not my strong suit, so it probably has something to do with that. All help is appreciated. I don't even know where to look. Thanks **EDIT:** Updated language to simplify question

I've just installed cockpit on my CentOS 8 box: dnf install cockpit systemctl start cockpit.socket systemctl enable cockpit.socket Once I'd let it through the firewall, I can get it up on a.b.c.d:9090 in my browser. But Chrome is saying Not secure, with https crossed out in the address bar. When I click on the warning and then Certiciate (invalid) it tells me Windows does not have enough information to verify this certificate. It says the certificate was issued by myhostname, to myhostname, and that it's valid from today until 2031. If I go to Certification path then Certificate status it says The issuer of this certificate could not be found.` I'm unclear whether my connection IS encrypted or not. Is Chrome just saying it doesn't like the certificate, or is it actively not using it and forcing http? I've checked the guide at https://cockpit-project.org/guide/latest/https.html and running remotectl certificate I can confirm that the file is there and is apparently being used. How can I fix this? Thank you!

I am using Cockpit to stand up VMs on my Fedora 32 server (https://fedoramagazine.org/create-virtual-machines-with-cockpit-in-fedora/) . I am able to stand up a VM without any issue if I use the option "Download an OS using Cockpit’s built-in library"; however, I need to standup both FreeNAS and Windows10 as VMs which are not provided in the links. Right now I have set up vsftpd and am able to upload images from one of my other computers that have a GUI. I don't know what format they need to be in or how to make them... I have tried both just uploading the .iso files to the server and have tried making a bootable media then uploading a clone of that drive to the server. Neither of those methods has worked... If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be awesome or just tell me the format it needs to be in that would be nifty. Thank you in advance!

I'm using **CentOS 8** and I wanted to monitor my server using Cockpit but my users cannot restart/stop/start service. Only the root user and the wheel group can manage them, and I don't want the root user to be used to log in to my server. I have a monitoring group for the server called **agents**. So I added this code to my rules: polkit.addRule(function(action, subject) { if (action.id == "org.freedesktop.systemd1.manage-units") { if (subject.isInGroup("agents")) { return polkit.Result.YES; } } }); But it still won't allow my monitoring team to control my services. I also tried this rule: polkit.addAdminRule(function(action, subject) { return ["unix-group:agents"]; }); Which will allow my monitoring team to do administrative actions. But I don't really want them to be able to do that though, just the normal start/stop services. Can somebody help me? Thanks.

Ahoy friends. I have been struggeling for almost 3 days now, and it's quite hard to find appropriate information about KVM regarding the creation of bridges. Yesterday i have set up a new Fedora 31 Server using VirtualBox (Because i would like to try out things first, before applying them on my physical system) and there are a few problems. I use Cockpit right now to manage the virtual machines, and i create them using virt-builder to avoid the installation process. Alright so far. I got some special wishes, so i would like to act with my virtual machines like real computers from the network's perspective. So i would like to pass them through like i do on VirtualBox, do use their own hostname in the network, to access them using SSH etc. But there are a few problems. After getting crazy because of tons of tutorials i finally followed this guide from Fedoramagazine https://fedoramagazine.org/create-virtual-machines-with-cockpit-in-fedora/ to get support for KVM using the Web interface. This bridging stuff seems to be really complicated, because i don't want static ip addresses for the virtual machines, i want them to be assigned by the DHCP (in this case my local network's router). All the tutorials i found are meant to assign static addresses, or another one i found was for Debian, unfortunately nothing for CentOS or Fedora which i'm using. So i tried to to create bridges using the web GUI like i do on VirtualBox, but i only receive this error: ` "Unable to add bridge enp0s8 port vnet0: Operation not supported"` In this case enp0s8 is my secondary NIC, i use 2 just to get sure nothing get's borked. I did some research about this error, but i didn't find anything useful. Does someone finally knows how to get my plans running? Maybe using commandline stuff as well? So in conclusion i want all the VMs to get their own ip assigned by my local network's router. enter image description here enter image description here enter image description here
