Recently I have installed Elementary OS luna, which is based on Ubuntu. I want to customize the wingpanel to display the menu toolbar of the selected application. This is my wingpanel: But I need it to look like this: The File, Edit, Selection and other menus, and the Close, maximize and minimize icons are on the wingpanel.

Now I'm using KDE plasma as my DE, and I really like the style of elementaryOS. So I use a theme inspired by elementaryOS. But in some gtk apps, it has black border and some circle buttons are out of shape. btw, not only elementaryOS theme, but also some other theme have this problem. So what could I do to remove this annoying black border.

I can't update elementary OS, when I try to change the settings 'Install updates from', none of the check boxes will check, it stays like the following image. What should I do?

I've downloaded and installed Elementary OS in my laptop, but something weird is happening with me. I made an USB Flash Drive installation, using UNetbootin. I was able to test it (like a Live-CD) and everything went just fine. So I decided to install it. When I installed it, these bugs started to happen: - The mouse pointer takes ~30 seconds to appear (i'm still able to click things), and when it does, all I see is an "X" on my screen. Perhaps this is the standard mouse pointer, right? - When I try to close or maximize a window, the top bar with these options just doesn't exists. I'm able to drag the window across the screen, but when I double-click (hoping the window will maximize), the system stops working for a while, and then the window crashes. - I've tested Elementary OS before installing. When I click something in the Plank, a small animation starts playing. This doesn't happen in the installed version. There are other things happening, but these are the "main bugs" I can remember now. I tried to do these: - I tried reinstalling the system. Still the same. - I tried to update the system. 100mb of updates, and the bugs didn't go away. - A friend of mine asked me to type "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo-apt get upgrade" in the terminal. Still the same. Since I've always been a Windows user, I don't know why this is happening and neither I know how can I fix this. My laptop config is: Dell Inspiron 14R (5420), Core i7 3612QM 2.10GHz, 8GB RAM, nVidia 630GT 1GB and 1TB storage. Any thoughts?

I've been trying for a few hours now and I still cannot find out why I cannot install Elementary OS. Every time I try to install it I get: > the 'grub-efi' package failed to install into /target/ I am trying to dual boot Elementary with Windows 8.1, I have wiped my SSD and set it as MSDOS to see if it worked, it did not. I have now used boot-repair in order to see what is wrong, it says: > The boot of your PC is in EFI mode, but no EFI partition was detected. In the top bar, clicking the network icon shows a list of networks. My school's network, which on Windows I would connect to, and then visit a login page in Chrome in order for it to work, shows on the list. When I click to connect it shows it connecting, and then says that I am not connected to the Internet. I am using elementary OS 0.3 Freya. I will be running a Pi-hole server in a docker container, so I have freed up port 53 by settingDNSStubListener=no in /etc/systemd/resolved.conf and restarting systemd-resolved. This has freed up port 53, but now DNS doesn't work. I get ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached Looking at Network Settings from the desktop, I see 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 as the DNS servers assigned by DHCP as currently configured, but how do I get my system to use these? **UPDATE1:** /etc/resolv.conf has this: nameserver 127.0.0.53 options edns0 trust-ad search domain.local

I've installed Elementary as dual boot with Windows 10 but cannot boot Windows 10 using GRUB. It loads fine if I change boot order in my UEFI on motherboard. Looked at and tried so many solutions here and on the web. Last attempt was using boot-repair. This has made a lot of entries related to Windows but still none work. All that happens when selection a Windows entry is the screen goes black for a few seconds before GRUB menu reappears. Boot-repair paste is located here: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/ZtHkfg85yH/ . I'm running Laptop with single OS: UbuntuMATE 15.04 Beta1 64bit on Toshiba laptop Core i3. After burning "Elementary OS" on a live USB drive using UNetbootin, what happened is: -After reboot, laptop directly shows UbuntuMATE boot screen, doesn't show Toshiba logo at the begginning as usual. So no access to BIOS or boot menu anymore. So it boots directly to UbuntuMATE and it runs normally. - Installed Boot-Repair and ran (Recommended Repair); it gets aborted showing me this message: "Please use this software in a live-session (live-CD or live-USB). This will enable this feature"... which I can't boot from a live CD or USB as I lost access to boot menu. - Boot info summary gave me this link http://paste.ubuntu.com/10664795/ which I can ask for help providing information in it. - I looked around into several posts but couldn't find what matches my case. What exactly am I supposed to do? I'm a little new to Linux (3 months) and I'm still learning, so I do not know much.

I wanted to install Wine in Elementaryos Hera and followed this site . The only mistake which I did was, I installed wine from Ubuntu Repositories then followed by trying to install wine from official wine repositories. Then, I installed wineHQ stable using the command

apt-get install --install-recommends winehq-stable

Because I installed wine twice, it didn't work as it should. So I went to the terminal and used the command

--list

to see what wine based software are installed and uninstalled them using the command

apt-get --purge remove program

I literally uninstalled everything that had **wine** in its name. Now, I reinstalled Wine from official repositories and then added the key for WineHQ Stable and then tried installing it using the first command mentioned above. I am on elementaryOS 0.4.1 Loki, which is based on Ubuntu 16.04.1. I want to use OBS , a screen recorder, to record gameplay along with the sounds that come from the same video game. I also want to use a voice chat application in the background while playing the game, but I do not want any of it recorded by OBS. OBS can't selectively ignore the audio of certain programs, but it can record sound from a specified input device. **I want to create a virtual input and use pavucontrol's output list to route my voice chat application to that input so it's not picked up by OBS. At the same time, I want this input to play back to a headphone/line out port.** I know this can be done in Windows with software such as Virtual Audio Cables, but I don't know how to do the same thing in Linux. I already attempted to do something with sudo modprobe snd-dummy but it doesn't let me route the dummy to a headphone output. How should I approach this?

I installed elementary OS on my laptop and tried to install VNC server. First I installed vnc4server, opened and logged from phone. On screen I saw: failed to load session gnome How do I need to configure it to run under elementary OS? I am not interested in installing GNOME.

I downloaded the rhythmbox ppa. I launched the command : sudo apt-get install rhythmbox-plugin-equalizer But the equalizer plugin does not appear in the list of plugins in the Preferences menu. When I try again, the following message appears: Reading status information... Done rhythmbox-plugin-equalizer is already the most recent version (0.4.1-1~zesty). 0 updated, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not updated. The plugin seems therefore well installed. However, even when relaunching Rhythmbox, I do not see it in the list of plugins. I'm using Elementary OS 7.1, based on Ubuntu 22.04.3.

I was trying to dual boot elementary os with windows on my laptop (Asus Zenbook UX305). To do that I shrank the windows partition using the windows disk manager, and then used the Elementary installer's "install alongside windows" option to set up the linux partitions automatically. When I rebooted after installing I was put into the grub console. I was able to boot linux manually with the commands grub> set root=(hd0,gpt4) grub> linux /boot/vmlinuz-3.19.0-26-generic root=/dev/sda4 grub> initrd /boot/initrd.img-3.19.0-26-generic grub> boot and I found that running the command grub> configfile (hd0,gpt4)/boot/grub/grub.cfg would load the normal grub menu as is supposed to happen - so there don't seem to be any problems with the config file itself. I also found that the root and prefix are on (hd0,gpt1), so running grub> set root=(hd0,gpt4) grub> set prefix=(hd0,gpt4)/boot/grub grub> insmod normal grub> normal also loaded the normal grub menu. So possibly the problem is that grub is looking on the wrong partition? In my BIOS, I have a choice between using grub and the windows bootloader to boot. Selecting the windows bootloader boots me directly into windows without any problems. However, I can't find any way to get any fixes to stick after a reboot. I've tried rerunning grub-install /dev/sda, recreating the config file with grub-mkconfig, and using the Ubuntu boot repair gui tool - none of these have worked. Is there any way to fix this short of reinstalling either or both OSs? I'd rather not have to reinstall windows if possible.

I am trying to install Cloudflare WARP on Elementary OS, but I am having trouble getting it to fully install.  When I do sudo apt-get update, I get an error:

E: The repository 'https://pkg.cloudflareclient.com  horus Release' does not have a Release file.

I followed the installation guide for Ubuntu Linux because I believe that this OS is Ubuntu-based (correct me if I am wrong).  However, the previously mentioned error shows up on the last step in the installation (from https://pkg.cloudflareclient.com/#ubuntu) . I am very new to Linux as a whole, so I don't really know much.

Every time I start my laptop, pulseaudio-equalizer it's enabled. Even when I disable it (inside the app there's a button to disable it). How can I avoid that? Moreover, something is resetting my volume to 100% at startup. I believe it has something to do with pulseaudio-equalizer. Can anyone help me to solve this? I'm using elementaryOS, based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Let's say I have a product installed in my linux (elementary OS): > NAME="elementary OS" VERSION="6.1 Jólnir" I also have Windows 10 installed in my system (dual boot) and I want to make some changes in the source code, but I keep getting this error: chmod: changing permissions of 'filename': Read-only file system It just happens to this file/directory. **Things i tried :** - chmod 777 file - mount -o remount,rw '/myfile/directory' : which returns no error - chown -R root:root /mydir - disabling fast boot on Windows (that breaks my OS, I don't know why) - I tried this And none of them work. It looks like the product locks its own source files (that's my best guess). **So how can I solve this?** **EDIT-1:** Here is some actual terminal output:

I have a computer with Windows 11 and Elementary OS 7. I can't access my OneDrive folder. I tried fsutil reparsepoint delete "C:\Path\To\OneDrive\Folder" but it output an access permission error, although I run it as an administrator Error: Access to the cloud file is denied..

I have an external hard drive (WB My Passport), connected via a USB port. My OS is Elementary OS Freya on a Dell Vostro 1510. Currently, in order to mount the drive, I have to open the file manager, and then click on its icon. However, I would like this external hard drive to be mounted automatically when plugged in or when booting up.

I just installed Elementary OS and almost everything is working great. The only problem is that the touchpad isn't working. I can not move the cursor with the touchpad. But if I use a mouse it is working fine.
