Fresh install of Lubuntu 20.04 on system with Windows 10 and Lubuntu installed on 256GB NVME drive to dual boot.
Boot drive is /dev/nvme0n1p2
Home folder is therefore /dev/nvme0n1p2/home/username
I have a 1TB HDD with two partitions:
/dev/sda1 736GB encrypted ext4/LUKS
/dev/sda2 195GB ntfs
For context, the purpose of the ntfs partition is so that I can easily share files between my Lubuntu environment and Windows 10.
My objective is to be able to:
1) Boot into Lubuntu
2) Log in
3) Open File Manager and navigate to /home/Filestore
4) Be prompted to enter password
I have read this guide:
https://www.linuxbabe.com/desktop-linux/how-to-automount-file-systems-on-linux
And I can successfully automount the ntfs drive to /home/WindowsShare
But I cannot mount the LUKS filesystem to /home/Filestore
Using 'ext4' as the filesystem gives me this error message:
mount: /home/luke/Filestore: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error.
The entry for the partition in blkid is:
/dev/sda1: UUID="redacted" TYPE="crypto_LUKS" PARTUUID="redacted"
So I therefore tried using "crypto_LUKS" as the filesystem in fstab and got this:
mount: /home/luke/Filestore: unknown filesystem type 'crypto_LUKS'.
I have looked for guides on automounting encrypted filesystems and found numerous. Here is one:
https://blog.tinned-software.net/automount-a-luks-encrypted-volume-on-system-start/
Everything I have found involves using a shared key to auto-decrypt the filesystem on boot. I don't want to do this as I don't have an encrypted area on my boot drive in order to store the key.
Is my stated aim possible?

It looks like a pinpoint of light shining through any opened window, always at the same place (it doesn't move if I move the window). It looks like a screen-related hardware problem, only I don't think it's a hardware problem because if no window is opened it doesn't show. I can change the background picture, it doesn't show. Any opened window covering this place, whatever the program, it shows. An opened window not covering this place, it doesn't show. It doesn't appear on screenshots.
The only fix I can think off would be to reinstall Lubuntu, but this seems like overkill for a small problem like that. Plus, I don't just want it to simply go away, I'm curious about what could possibly cause this?

I have a time-consuming program running in Lubuntu 18.04 Live. It will take around one day to finish. After the program finishes the computer shuts down.
But since I am running Lubuntu Live, the computer asks me to
> Please remove the installation medium then press enter
after initiating the shutdown.
I will be traveling away before the program can finish and will not be back in a few weeks. I don't want the computer to be powered on all that time.
My question is: Is there a timeout after which the computer will eventually shut down, or is there any way to skip this prompt and completely shut down Lubuntu Live?

**Problem description**
I recently updated my two monitor system from Lubuntu 14.04 to Lubuntu 15.10. I set everything on the new system exactly as on the old one before and I figured out a strange behavior on my desktop:
The primary monitor 1, the start menu position and the position where the desktop icons are located somehow were messed up. Additionally I could not set desktop wallpaper for both monitors.
On the screenshot below you could see the situation.
Not only the position of the start menu and icons were messed up, but additionally I couldn't set two different wallpaper, since the

Desktop Preferences
dialog only changed the wallpaper on monitor 1, but the image scaling took the whole Xserver screen as argument (3840x1200).
There were two different dialogs popping up when using the right mouse click on the desktop. On monitor 2 the openbox popup, on monitor 1 the LXDE popup with limited options.
No matter what I select, only the wallpaper for monitor 1 could be changed. My system setup is:
Operating System: Lubuntu 15.10
Graphics Adapter: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750
Driver: Nvidia 352.63
Monitor 1: HP LP2475w / connected via DVI-I-1 / 1920x1200
Monitor 2: HP LP2475w / connected via DVI-D-0 / 1920x1200
XServer Screen: 3840x1200
PCManFM: 1.2.3
Anybody having the same problem or a solution how to fix this?

I have installed Lubuntu desktop on a Ubuntu 20.03 LTS server. The desktop works fine when I log on to it locally. I can see the SDDM and I can chose between various sessions for the desktop (Lubuntu, LXDE, LXQt).
However, I set up a vnc server and I configured (as per the instructions I found online) the ~/.vnc/xstartup fileto looks like this:
#!/bin/sh
xsetroot -solid grey
export XKL_XMODMAP_DISABLE=1
openbox &
/usr/bin/lxsession -s Lubuntu &
When I connect though, all I can see is a grey screen. Any ideas?
Thanks a lot!

I reinstalled Firefox, because my profile was crashing. I backed up my
~/.mozilla
folder to some other place, uninstalled firefox and installed it again.
New firefox wasn't crashing. So I copied one of my backup up old profile to new firefox, and that profile was crashing again.
Now, I would like to use completely fresh profile and copy only the things that I need from the old profile that is crashing. Which files need I to replace? I need bookmarks (the quick access bar with bookmarks is sufficient for me and I need all the extensions with extension data). What could I also need and forget?
I want to try it, I will at least find out, if it is some extension that's causing the crashes. But, I think it is not. It starts usually when I open a new tab and the page won't load.
My OS is Lubuntu 18.04.6 LTS
. Firefox version is 112.0.2 32 bit

I am writing a bash script that automates installation of TLauncher (Minecraft launcher) and basic dependency management on USBs running Lubuntu 18.04.
Part of the bash script creates a desktop entry under
/usr/share/applications
for easy launch from the Lubuntu menu.
Here is the entry I am using:
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Exec=pkexec env DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY /usr/bin/java -jar -Dswing.systemlaf=javax.swing.plaf.nimbus.NimbusLookAndFeel ~/.minecraft/tlauncher.jar
Icon=~/.minecraft/icons/default.png
Type=Application
Terminal=false
Name=Minecraft
GenericName=minecraft
StartupNotify=false
Categories=Game
The command pkexec env DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY /usr/bin/java -jar -Dswing.systemlaf=javax.swing.plaf.nimbus.NimbusLookAndFeel ~/.minecraft/tlauncher.jar
works and does launch TLauncher if run in the terminal. However, I feel I am missing something when I put the command in the Desktop Entry.
When I try to open the entry from the Lubuntu menu, the cursor shows that something is loading, but then nothing happens no matter how long I wait. I am also not sure how to debug the Desktop entry. I tried toxdg-open
the entry, but I got no output in the terminal and nothing happened either -i.e, TLauncher did not launch.
I tried putting the command in a separate bash file that looks like:
#!/bin/bash
pkexec env DISPLAY=:0 XAUTHORITY=/home/me/.Xauthority /usr/bin/java -jar -Dswing.systemlaf=javax.swing.plaf.nimbus.NimbusLookAndFeel ~/.minecraft/tlauncher.jar
Running that in the terminal bash testscript.sh
works and does launch TLauncher.
But when I put it in the desktop entry replacing the exec
from the entry above like so:
Exec=/bin/bash /path/to/testscript.sh
It does not work.
The shell scripts have the proper permissions.
I feel like either I'm writing the Desktop Entry's exec
value wrong or that pkexec
isn't supposed to work from a Desktop Entry the way I am trying to make it work.
I would like to be able to launch TLauncher from a desktop entry via the menu and have a gui popup asking for the password in order to have the command run as root
.
**Edit:**
Using full paths instead of ~
also yields the same result -i.e, it does not work and the above issues remain.
Setting Terminal=true
does not solve this for me.

This issue was previously posted on the Lubuntu subreddit, and the person who graciously spent time helping me figure it out told me to share it on here, because we ran out of ideas. I hope someone on here will have come across something like it before.
Please check out [the original thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Lubuntu/comments/1bv8czx/startup_issues/) with all the stuff we tried out.
What we ended up finding out is that the issue most likely stems from the GPU, but installing the additional drivers didn't fix anything. Another weird thing is that the GUI only rarely has issues beyond that. Here is a link to some logs showing what is going on: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/hYhHxNGfXp/
Here is a description of the issue:
I set up Lubuntu 22.04.4 (the latest LTS build back when I did it) on my 2008 Unibody MacBook Pro, and I have a weird issue that I am struggling to figure out on my own.
The issue most likely doesn't stem from the quality of the download, as I spent a while figuring out whether my sha256sum hash was correct (see [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Lubuntu/comments/1bon4oy/i_need_help_with_the_image_verification/)) . I ended up using the ISO I got off zsync. Please do ask questions if you think it might come from there anyway.
Anytime I boot up Lubuntu, I end up with [this](https://imgur.com/co1Ay7l) or [this](https://imgur.com/70L9wpY) . Notice how the cursor is displayed in the middle of the screen (it can't be moved). Sorry for the janky phone pictures of the screen, you'll understand I can't take screenshots. It turns out that when I get to that point, I can type out my password and log in. This hints at something being wrong with the login page (which I do *sometimes* see properly).
I also have an issue where I need to try a few times every time I boot up the laptop, because it simply freezes before getting to a point where I can log in. I think that's a separate issue so I might ask about it in a different post another time, but for all I know it could be related so I'm mentioning it here anyway.

I have the following keyboard (HHKB JP).

I'm using Lubuntu 14.04, and I've edited
I have 2 problems.
1. I don't know what the "names" for some of the non-standard keys on the keyboard (in order to add them to
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/us
to implement a [custom layout](http://mkweb.bcgsc.ca/carpalx/?full_optimization) .
Now, I want to use the following keys as 5th, 6th, 7th, ..., and 20th level modifiers. (On Windows, I accomplish this with AutoHotkey, and now I can't live without (at least some of) them.)

/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/us
).
2. I don't know how to add extra modifiers with xkb
(I understand xmodmap
is deprecated), specially "normal" keys like 9
.
My questions are:
1. How do I figure out the names/codes for the mystery keys (eg. key
)?
2. How do I add an arbitrary number of modifier layers to any given key?
Note: perhaps this cannot be accomplished with XKB. I'd be delighted to know of some scripting tool that can implement this.

works just fine.

- journalctl -u user-1000.slice

- The problem is the same for newly created users.
- Is user 1000 is 'delta', executing su delta

What else can I do to debug the problem? Can I restore systemd status config to a fresh state?, or copy something from 1002 to 1001?
