I have my ipod nano (4th gen). I want to add some new music to it and I have tried already a range of applications which should be able to do so.
I used this list of suggested software:
http://www.wikihow.com/Manage-an-iPod-in-Linux
I have tried: atunes, amaraok, rhythmbox, banshee, music (elementary's own music player).
None of them worked. Banshee came the closest: I was able to manage my ipod. See playlists, transfer music to it, sync etc.
After disconnecting my ipod, I saw Banshee was syncing the music database.
When I looked on my ipod, there was no new music, the created playlist was not there.
When I connected the again, everything I had done was gone. Also in Banshee.
Amarok does not even show my ipod.
Music shows some playlist but with the completely wrong content.
atunes did not even recognize my ipod.
I searched for this and found this question at askubuntu:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/26353/how-can-i-sync-with-an-ipod-nano-6g
But this question is about a much newer ipod.
Is it possible to manage my iPod in Elementary without running a VM with windows or Mac OS X?
(I was hoping that I did not any longer needed windows, but I already need it to get access to the iTunes store.)
**edit:**
my ipod nano is 5th gen, not a 4th gen.
Plus: I am running into multiple problems using the mentioned software. Missing software etc. And after installing this software, other missing software. So it goes on and on.

is there any way to read a DCF partition in Linux?
After the unfortunate upgrade of my `ipod touch 5g` to `ios 9.2` I can no longer manage my photos from Linux. I used to be able to read/write to the `DCIM` folder and now apple has taken that away. In windows I can see that the partition with the pictures is `DCF` format.

In GNOME however the iPod is automatically mounted and the normal user has write permissions.
Please can someone explain how GNOME is mounting it so that write permission is enabled for normal user?

I have had gnupod for a while. Still haven't figured out how to use it though. I usually just go for gtkpod. So this question, in case anyone had any doubts after reading everything below, *is purely about gnupod syntax*.
Recently I decided to get my ipod replaced under this replacement scheme. (I don't like proprietary hardware, etc., but if someone is going to give me a brand new piece of hardware... for something that was originally a gift... hmm...)
Anyway, long story short, I backed up my old ipod using dd:
dd if=/dev/sdb2 of=ipodbk
and just tried running gtkpod (with ipodbk mounted as
-t vfat -o loop
) to see if it would pick it up, like it does when an ipod is attached, which it does.
But this question is not about that.
I don't want to waste time with gtkpod's bugginess when it comes to exporting an entire ipod's files (tried it before. ended up with a lot of 0 byte files... no thanks).
I just want to be able to export all the tracks from the disk image in one go.
The command probably looks something like
gnupod_something (some switches) -m /home/user/ipodbkmount/ (some stuff?)
and the output probably looks something like
(window flooded with 1000 lines of text)
but I've never really been able to get gnupod
to work. I'm sure it's a great program, and I have to usually invoke it as gnupod_check -m ipod --fixit
once in a while when gtkpod
loses track of what it's doing and makes errors when it writes files to the device. As for gnupod
, I'm just not intelligent enough to figure out its syntax on the more routine ipod manipulations, I think.
So, yeah, what's that command?

How can I check the charge of an Apple iPod Shuffle?
I am using Ubuntu and would like to know the answer to this question: - How does one determine whether his/her Apple iPod Shuffle's charge is full in Linux? In Windows it's easy since iTunes shows the charge. But in Linux neither Rhytmbox nor gtkpod shows the battery charge. Any help regarding this.
