Which MP3 tagging tool for Linux? -> For Album Folders (Alrady tried a lot)
I'm trying to sort my music by album into folders. I have already tried: - Picard - easytag - puddletag - kid3 - tageditor - eartag - beets - eyeD3 I think there's an option on puddle tag but i couldn't find it, if someone could help me with that or suggest me an alternative, I'd be very happy.

Obviously, for a music visualizer you got to rice your desktop, this is undesirable. It also seems to minimize with the "show desktop" button. I am using KDE on Manjaro. Is there some command or flag I can use to prevent KDE from minimizing glava? Also, I just want to mention that I am not looking for software to keep it pinned always on top, I just want to prevent it from being minimized, especially when I show desktop.

## Use case / Problem I wanna hear music in the night with my laptop/device and as such I want the screen to be black, as I don't want to get dazzled in the night. ### Tried workarounds/“solutions” As such, …: * I cannot put it into **standby** for obvious reasons (music playing stops) * I cannot **close the lit** without going into standby (I know I can adjust this in gnome-tweaks, but really… I don't wanna disable and re-enable this each time I want to do this, because I usually want to keep the default and very sensible behavior of getting into standby when the lid is closed) * I _could_ try any **physical solutions** to the problem, like closing the lid partially, wearing sunclasses or eye masks or placing the device facing me away or even putting some light-blocking object between me and the device. However, this would cause other downsides like needing to reverse the workaround when you want to pause the music or skip a track or so (access to keyboard could be limited in these scenarios). Also, it's _really_ inconvenient. (but closing the lid is e.g. sth. I instinctively do as a workaround, and it's not perfect due to the [light reflection](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reflection_(physics)).) * One solution that partially works, even though it may not be obvious at first, is: **Lock your screen**! This [does not only prevent from cat pictures (or similar) appearing on your screen](https://lockyourscreen.com/) , but also actually fade the window to black in recent GNOME versions. The problems with this solution/approach are: * Any keypress will wake the screen up, even if it is just the keyboard button for pausing music or skipping a track. * Worse, any notification will wake your screen up. (Again I could circumvent this by enabling “Do not disturb” mode, but really, do I want to do that just for that? Again very inconvenient.) * Also, there may the inevitable “This system will go to standby soon” notification (at least in GNOME 41), which _will_ wake-up your screen, * Now, worst though, after your screen woke up once and you are now at the login/lock screen, if you wait _the screen will not turn black again_ automatically. The only workaround I found for this is logging in and, yet again, re-locking it. Do I need to say another time this usability s………eems to be not the best? An “old” solution I had was one: * Another laptop I used had a special **Fn button**, which would just turn the whole screen black. It looked as if it was not a hardware thing, but somehow GNOME really interpreted that key correctly. Now, I desperately miss that key or that feature in general. ## Solution wanted I want to have a **keyboard shortcut/hotkey** or something equally easily accessible that just **turns the screen black**. Pitch black, so I am not dazzled. It, thought, _must not_ turn the device into standby. (Music players usually have a lock on that, so GNOME won't do that by default anyway, but one could always trigger standby manually of course.) How can I do that? ## System GNOME 42.1 Fedora 36 (Silverblue) ---- Cross-posed [to Fedora Ask](https://ask.fedoraproject.org/t/how-to-turn-the-screen-total-pitch-black-in-gnome/22426?u=rugk) . Feel free to submit your answer there, too, if you have one.

Is it stored in file system like other file attributes or is it part of MP3 data that Windows Explorer extracts using a MP3 reader plugin? Is it possible to read/change this information in Linux? Is it possible with commandline? *(I know these attributes can be set using Rhythymbox or some music player but I'm curious if these could also be set directly. Like in Windows the windows itself shows you artist information if you right click the file and open properties dialog)*

I have a large music collection. Some of it is lossless files, and some is lossy. I would like to maintain a copy of the collection that consists of the original collection's lossy files, and lossy transcodes of the original collections lossless files. Some assumptions: * I know how to use ffmpeg to convert flac to opus files * I only have flac files that need to be converted, no wav or alac codecs * The lossy files can be opus, vorbis, or mp3 I want to: * Use minimal storage for the the new music collection. I.e. it would link back to the original lossy files where appropriate. * Keep the collection up to date as I add more lossy and lossless files to the original, or update the metadata. * Not have to re-transcode lossless files that have not been modified. I imagine I will need to use some custom scripting to accomplish this, but if anyone has recommendations or tips before I sink lots of time into this, I would be eternally grateful.

I would like to do some music composition on my linux mint pc, but I have run into instabilities while trying to install and use a low-latency kernel (system freezes, possibly due to conflicts with the nvidia proprietary graphics drivers). So as I see it, I have three options: 1. Either use my current system, i.e. the normal, generic kernel 1. Install a dedicated audio distribution like Ubuntustudio 1. Install the low-latency kernel on my current system but disable my graphics card. Option 2 involves repartitioning etc so I'd like to avoid that, and option 3 is pretty ugly and tedious to work with. So I would like to know, if I go with option 1, what am I missing out on by not using a low-latency kernel for music production? (both in general, and w.r.t. the linux toolchain in particular)? If I choose to use a generic kernel for music production, what side-effects, problems can I expect that a low-latency kernel is supposed to solve? Will I not be able to use JACK effectively? Will I be able to record? Will there be a lag in my recordings? Noise / skips / screetches? Will midi input accuracy via piano keyboard suffer? PS. This question is [crossposted from music.SE](https://music.stackexchange.com/questions/57041/linux-music-production-workflow-without-a-low-latency-kernel) as per a comment there suggesting this may be a more appropriate forum. I'd be interested in people's opinion here on whether a linux workflow for music production is a suitable topic for this forum.

I am trying to use kdenlive (0.9.10) on Ubuntu 14.04 to create a simple music-mix clip (for youtube). This clip has a total length of about 90 minutes and is composed of several mp3 tracks, which sometimes slightly overlap. In addition, I have static images which do not overlap. The whole music mix clip does not have any actual moving images in it. To render this project I have chosen the HDEV 720p PAL profile, which is supposed to 'render fast' (according to a youtube video whose source I cannot find at the moment). I started rendering and it gave me an estimated time of about 25 minutes. However, this was 6 (six!) hours ago. Now kdenlive states the estimated time to be about 12 seconds, but this already for hours! I can see the output file building (a m2t file) which grows about 12 kB (i.e. 12000 Bytes!) every second. The current size is about 200 MB. How can I render this video clip faster? I am doing something fundamental wrong? Why is this video clip (which does not even contain 'video') taking such an incredible long time? Maybe there are ways to make it differently? If there is a better tool, I will try this instead!

Here is my starting point: find ~/Music -type f -iname "*.wav" | while read fn; do flac --keep-foreign-metadata --ogg --verify "$fn"; done How can I improve this? If shntool is recommended, how would I include it? How would I include checksum comparisons? How can I make FLAC test the integrity of each file? A working example is appreciated. BTW, I took a look at perfect-flac-encode , but it is too complicated for me. I don't even fully understand the first sentence of the project's description! The installation steps also look too complex. If there is a similar project that might fit my needs, please let me know.
