I would like to be able to play a random selection of music each day, but neither the server nor the client have this feature. How can I best achieve this?

.
I'm trying to enable a temporary FTP server (changed to port 29 in this case) that I want a friend to be able to access. I installed miniupnp
and ran the following command.
$ upnpc -l
upnpc : miniupnpc library test client. (c) 2005-2013 Thomas Bernard
Go to http://miniupnp.free.fr/ or http://miniupnp.tuxfamily.org/
for more information.
No IGD UPnP Device found on the network !
miniupnp is apparently having trouble finding my router, or thinks it's not enabling UPnP.
How can I troubleshoot this?
EDIT: I just managed to get a telnet session into my IP camera. Coincidently it is also running miniupnp, I ran the binary and it returned:
# ./upnpc-static -l

So the same program on my IP camera is finding the IGD, wheras my laptop isn't.

I have been trying to harden my Debian system by stopping and disabling the 20 or so unnecessary services listening by default. One of them is called "minissdpd". Apparently this provides "discovery" services to plug-and-play devices, whatever that means. Seems kind of crazy to me that something intended to help local peripherals needs to be listening to Chinese hackers on the other side of the world. What does discovery services even mean?
I looked in some vulnerability database, and sure enough minissdpd had a whole slew of vulnerabilities listed. How can they have this enabled in the default distribution? Seriously, its like install Debian, get hacked.
Anyway, my main question is: now that I have disabled this service, is something bad going to happen (like plug something in and it won't work)?

The thing that does not work is that on the Raspi client it does not find the upnp server. I can ping the server but kodi for example can not find it. On the other clients it does work. VLC for example can find the server on these client's but only when i set the allowed addresses to 0.0.0.0/0. I guess that this some routing thing or the way that a upnp server works.? So i did the same thing on the pi but still it can not find the server. But ping is still working. I was wondering if this could be because i connect the pi via wifi? Maybe someone has an idea.
Thank you for your help.

The question is:
How can I tell mpd
that there is an output which is in fact remote a dlna/upnp (even aiyplay would be fine) ip-device ?
Is it possible at all ?
**Edit 1:**
I found a way , though through pulseaudio
and not dlna
(which could be a use for one of my Raspberry Pi
s).

I have a MiniDLNA + Bubble UPnP Server running at home and I would like to access it remotely from my PC at work. I can check that the server is properly accessible though the Bubble UPnP App for Android, where I can enter the URL to my server.
There is a wide range of UPnP client software for Linux, but non of them offers the possibility to enter an URL, which is quite hard to believe. During my search I checked all of them listed here on wikipedia , and all of them just search the local network for servers.
Does anybody know a UPnP client / controller software which can deal with remote servers?

I have seen that I can use miniupnp to apply port forwarding on my router, and I would like to find another tool to apply DNS and/or DHCP settings on the router. Is this possible?
My goal is to have a script that once executed, it configures a VPN and DNS on my server, and also configures the router accordingly ( VPN port forward and DNS pointing to my LAN server ) without any user intervention.
Thank you for your help!
**Edit::**
I have found an interesting python tool that can help me discover UPNP devices on my network and also the UPNP services they provide. I have also understood that I need theLANHostConfigManagement UPNP service in order to modify DNS and DHCP settings on the router.
Unfortunately neither of my 3 router devices provide this service, and for obvious reasons. I have understood the risks to allow for such devices for an app to change such settings.
But then is there another way how/work around to achieve this convenience?
My goal is to have a Raspberry Pi running PiHole or AdGuard Home (DNS) and that can be easily installed in a home network. Is there a creative mind that think of and show me of a way to automate DNS configuration without having the user do it himself, while keeping it safe and local?

This question is probably related to: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/19060/fedora-firewall-with-upnp
Because newer fedora workstations use
firewalld
, it's a bit of a different situation.
The problem I'm experiencing is that I can't reliably detect UPnP servers with my fedora workstation unless I disable firewalld
altogether. I tried adding 1900/UDP
to my active zone as well as the service upnp-client
(which is the same thing).
On the server side of things (gerbera
), I only opened 1900/UDP
and 49152/TCP
- this is detected in an instant when the firewall of the client is disabled.
I don't think that the server is at fault as all the other devices do not show up either when firewalld is active - except my router for some reason. (Also, sometimes gerbera showed up after some time without me changing the firewall settings of my workstation).
Wireshark gets me this:
Internet Protocol Version 4, Src: workstation, Dst: server
Internet Control Message Protocol
Type: 3 (Destination unreachable)
Code: 13 (Communication administratively filtered)
Checksum: 0x[...] [correct]
[Checksum Status: Good]
Unused: 00000000
Internet Protocol Version 4, Src: server, Dst: workstation
User Datagram Protocol, Src Port: 1900, Dst Port: 56198
Simple Service Discovery Protocol
[...]
----
I'm using gupnp-tools
to detect the server.

How can I configure a Debian-based system to keep emitting the sound on the classic stereo jack **but additionally also stream it via** UPnP

In home networks based on modern routers supporting UPnP, torrent clients just work: they ask the UPnP gateway to open a port for them when needed.
Yet, every guide I have seen about setting up a web server includes steps which manually enable port forwarding on the router. Why aren't web servers using UPnP for this purpose? Is there a technical limitation preventing them from doing so?
To make the question less open-ended, how do I configure Apache to use UPnP?

I'm using Fedora 15 and Transmission BT client. Transmission can't open ports unless the firewall is disabled.
I searched some posts that said add 1900 to the trusted ports, or via a iptable rule:
-A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m udp -p udp --sport 1900 -j ACCEPT"
. However, Transmission can't open ports anyway.
I also tested with upnp-inspector
, which is better than Transmission, it could detect my upnp router after add 1900 to the trusted ports, but the detection is slower than if the firewall is disabled.
Any ideas on how to let Transmission UPnP works with the Firewall?

I'm using pulseaudio-dlna+pavucontrol to direct sound output from my laptop (192.168.2.159) to my yamaha stereo (192.168.2.160)
This only works when I disable ufw with
sudo ufw disable
I struggle to find the right rule to allow that specific traffic.
sudo tail -f /var/log/ufw.log
shows block messages like:
Apr 21 20:40:50 foo kernel: [ 5349.911161] [UFW BLOCK] IN=wlo1 OUT= MAC=01:00:5e:7f:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:65:c3:04:08:00 SRC=192.168.2.160 DST=239.255.255.250 LEN=204 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=1 ID=0 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=40760 DPT=51200 LEN=184
As you can see I already added various rules without the desired effect, which I want to remove again when I found the right config:
sudo ufw status verbose
Status: active
Logging: on (low)
Default: deny (incoming), allow (outgoing), disabled (routed)
New profiles: skip

I have a server which, amongst other things, serves media over DLNA (UPnP) using
mediatomb
. Clients use *Simple Service Discovery Protocol* (SSDP) to locate the server on the network.
I found that the SSDP discovery M-SEARCH
queries were not being responded to and eventually tracked the problem down to the fact that the server was using a bridged interface which had *multicast snooping* enabled (because bridges have this enabled by default).
I fixed my problem with
echo 0 > /sys/devices/virtual/net/br0/bridge/multicast_snooping
However, although this works in my situation, I don't understand what it's doing and if there are any implications that I am unaware of. Hence the question....
What is multicast snooping, why does it break SSDP, why it would be wanted and why it is enabled by default on a bridge, and what problems may be caused by disabling it because It's presumably enabled by default with good reason ?

How to know if an IRQ value is free to use
If we add a device that does not support PNP (Plug-an Play), the manufacturer will hopefully provide explicit directions on how to assign IRQ values for it. lsdev
displays info about devices:
$lsdev

What about this cmd lsdev
, is it enough for this task? For example, if we want to know if 1233 is free, we would run this command:
lsdev | awk '{print $3}'|grep 1233
**NOTE:** $3
above is used because IRQ value printed in the 3rd column of lsdev
output.
Then if no output, it means that it is free for us to use?
