What is filesystem.squashfs and why does it take so long to load on to bootable media?
When I use Unetbootin to put a Linux ISO on a USB drive, it proceeds quite quickly until it gets to `filesystem.squashfs`, which takes longer to process than absolutely everything else combined. Is this writing a new filesystem to the USB, or is it copying some huge filesystem-dependent file? If so,...

Is this writing a new filesystem to the USB, or is it copying some huge filesystem-dependent file? If so, is there a way to only do it once in the event that I will be trying many distros and want to speed this step up?

BIOS on Laptop - changed Boot Order to this: 1. USB Diskette on Key/USB Hard Disc 2. USB CD/ROM ROM Drive 3. USB Floppy 4. Notebook Hard Drive 2. UNetBootIn wrote the Linux Mint ISO to these drives: 1. A 16 GB USB stick 2. A 60 GB portable HDD 3. Reboot laptop: 1. With the USB stick inserted, it just boots Windows 2. With the portable HDD it says no OS is found on the drive What am I doing wrong?

I was trying to dual boot Linux Mint Cinnamon with my Windows 10 PC. I used Unetbootin to install linux mint cinnamon iso file. I used the hard drive type installation in which the only hard drive in the option was C: drive. The Unetbootin installer completed successfully. Now I want to remove every of those linux mint files from C: drive. I have tried System Restore twice. I also get a message saying system restore was successful but still my Linux files are not removed at all. I have tried manually deleting using Date modified and Date created but wasn't very successful using that. PS: Would reset my PC work? would it remove Linux files from my C: ? Please Help. Thank you. **Update:** While trying to install Linux through USB, somehow my windows file got effected. My PC was not booting to the desktop screen. It always came to a blue screen that said > Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you.The image is included along with an error image that I also saw in my PC. Blue screen not booting Error seem This happened **every single time** I restarted it. I know that only my C drive was effected because I booted using a Linux OS from a USB and my rest of the files were fine. After 3 hours of panicking and trying out reset my pc (which failed), system restore (which was successful but still couldn't boot my pc), some scans from cmd terminal (which gave msg - Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.), I resigned myself that I would have to take it up to a technician. As a last ditch effort, I tried System Restore at a later date than my previous restore points. It WORKED!! I don't know why that did and the other didn't (even though I had NOT installed linux in any of the restore points) but I was crazy in relief! My windows is back to normal. I am very grateful for it. Thank you everyone for your help.

Also, I already partitioned my hard drive.

I prepared the USB drive using unetbootbin on Ubuntu using this file: Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-25-1.3.iso (if I prepare the drive with Disks it is not recognized as UEFI bootable). I rebooted, selected the USB drive to boot from (UEFI secure), and I got the Fedora boot menu. I edited the grub params and removed the quiet flag to see what was going on. I got the following screen (I got the last message when I removed the pendrive - so the kernel was not totally dead!). The only thing I can do at this point is turn off the computer. enter image description here What is wrong and how do I fix it? I'm surprised because Ubuntu works without hiccups and Fedora 25 on the XPS 13 is reported to be working fine by other users. PS. In the normal Ubuntu boot, the next message after the matching clocksource line in dmesg comes from systemd: [ 3.207740] clocksource: Switched to clocksource tsc [ 8.053957] EXT4-fs (dm-0): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. When I select the USB from the boot menu and load it, it stays stuck in a black screen with a little underscore blinking, i've looked everywhere in goolgle, blakcmoreops, and well it seems that no one have any answers. i have previously tried something in where some files from my computer (running kali) in the boot folder had to be copied to the root of the usb in order to make it boot and it actually worked but i totally forgot how it was done or what files had to be replaced.

Where can I find an updated list of all Free GNU/Linux distribution iso?
I want to test several linux versions. Is there any database that is constantly being updated where I can find this list of iso? I thought about mining in the source code of an iso USB installer if no official list of utility exists (such as `unetbootin`)

I screwed up big time, I have installed linux mint live disk on my flash drive via unetboot on an virtualised linux mint of another computer. When I transferred the usb drive to my main computer, it DOESN'T show up the unetboot selection screen but instead, always shows grub2 and it's boot options only into my main OS.(which doesn't work at the moment, see my other question ) Before that, I have installed grub2 on the almost everything including the usb drive for some reason via boot repair, I am sure that is what causes this problem, not sure why I did it. It doesn't matter if I format and install the OS on my usb drive, the incorrect grub2 menu always appears. Could someone help me?
