Why can't I overclock a rooted Samsung Galaxy GT-I7500 beyond the default maximum 528MHz?

I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy GT-I7500 running stock Donut (Android 1.6). I tried a couple of overclocking apps such as SetCPU and CPU Master, but none of them let me actually "over"-clock the CPU, because I can't set the maximum to be more than the default 528 MHz. I have read about speeds of 624 and/or 710 MHz possible with either the Galaxo custom ROM or GAOSP, but I want to achieve those kinds of speeds with stock Donut.
I've tried GAOSP b3 (Gingerbread) and Galaxo 1.6.3.4, but I prefer the feel of stock 1.6 (that's why I love my stock Nexus S running 2.3).
Is it possible to set the CPU speed beyond 528 MHz in my rooted Samsung Galaxy GT-I7500? How?

My i7500 doesn't unlock anymore (the screen unlock). I have a feeling the actual, physical button is broken, because the phone is on and responds to the power button being held down, but won't unlock.
Things I tried that failed:
- Rebooting does nothing.
- I tried the sqlite thing (updating one of the settings so that the phone doesn't lock by default or whatever), but my phone is not rooted, so I only got "access denied."
- I tried using adb shell to send the command
input keystate 82
, which supposedly unlocks the phone, but nothing happened.
- Sending event send EV_KEY:KEY_SOFT1:1
via adb (I get access denied
).
If I can figure out how to unlock it once, I think I'm game. The phone runs a non-local version of Android 1.6. It's not rooted, sadly, and I really want to avoid formatting it if possible.
Here's what I'm doing right now:
- Install NoLock via adb: adb install E:\download\NoLock1.05.apk
- Run NoLock via adb: adb shell am start -n org.jraf.android.nolock/org.jraf.android.nolock.activity.MainActivity
(prints Starting: Intent {cmp=org.jraf.android.nolock/.activity/MainActivity }
)
So, if I can only unlock my phone now, and configure NoLock, I think I'm good.
How can I get my phone to unlock, and how can I then unlock it without the unlock key? Is the current path of nolock going to work?
Why doesn't sending input keystate 82
unlock the screen?
Why doesn't NoLock automatically unlock the screen?

I'm trying these steps to root my Samsung Galaxy i7500L.
When I get to step 9, recovery mode, I just see a yellow exclaimation-mark icon over a phone icon. I can reset my phone to OEM settings, but I can't see any menu or enable SU/Root.
I tried copying the rectools.tar.gz to my root folder (I assume this is the folder that opens as a drive when you plug in to your PC via USB and select "open files/folder" -- I think you need Mass Storage mode enabled though). Is that the right place?
Also, even if I reset and then just run straight recovery (without running fastboot to flash first), I see the same screen.
What am I missing?

To mount the phone so I can access files on it (I don't have an SD card), I:
- Disable USB debugging
- Enable Mass Storage Mode
- Plug the phone in
- Go to the home screen
- Drag that bar down on the top of the screen
- Click on the USB item
- Click "Mount Storage"
Viola, I can access my files. The problem now is that the bar at the top doesn't drag down. I fear that it's a hardware issue (is there some way to disable/enable it from the software side?)
Having said that, how can I now mount the storage to transfer files onto my computer? I have several (100ish) 1.5MB images I need to copy over.
I have a Samsung i7500g running Android 1.6.
I wrote my own app, which can trap events on the top bar part of the screen; it seems that it's only the home page bar that doesn't allow me to drag it down. Is there some setting I'm missing?
**Edit:** Even stranger, sometimes, the pull bar works perfectly.

There's gaosp . but the warning "Don't complain if your phone doesn't boot up!" is a bit disenchanting.
