Device: Nexus 7 (2013 WIFI) ROM: AOKP_FLO_KITKAT_NIGHTLY_2014-07-31 Rooted: Yes Recovery: TWRP (Not sure if this is needed) I am posting this because I recently started getting "insufficient storage" error on my device. I've had this before and I knew exactly had to fix it because I had come back from a vacation then and there were a lot of pictures on the device; So it was a simple matter of moving all the pictures and videos off the device for it to start working again. This time however it is a little confusing for me. I will start with some pictures: Settings > Storage ES File Explorer *Settings > Storage* / *ES File Explorer* > Top_left menu > Tools drop-down > SD Card Analyst (click images for larger variants) So far everything looks fine, I seem to have a lot of space left to install one measly app right? Just to confirm, I used Clean Master to try to move some apps to device storage: Clean Master Clean Master > App Manager > Move No gimmicks here, Clean Master sees that I only have one storage medium on my device. So why do I get these errors? Google play AIDE *Google play* (Trying to install an app that is less than 1MB in size) / AIDE (Trying to run an app) I'm just confused about the whole thing. Everything else seems to be saying I **have** enough space, but apps are not being installed because I **don't have** enough. What can I do here? EDIT: Even more weirdness, it won't let me install the 300Kb file with the image I posted above, but it lets me install a 3Mb file from the playstore. Basically I can install some apps but not others and it doesn't matter the size, my device just wants to make me crazy no problem. Ex. This app (2.6M) installed fine, but this one (2.1M) didn't due to "Not enough space". **What I have tried:** - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1834105 - Installing and running DiskUsage and here is a screnshot: DiskUsage Couple observations: --> It let me install this App and still not letting me install the other apps I have tried with the insufficient memory message still showing --> The above pic shows that I have enough space left on the /data partition to install atleast A LOT of apps! - Output of running the df command: Terminal Emulator Note I have tried the solution posted at the "Possible Duplicate" link and it did not work nor did I expect it to. The problem here is not that I have insufficient space to install apps because as you can see, I have a lot of space and I am able to install some apps. The problem is deeper than that and probably has to do with the way files are installed on my tablet

What is /data/data/package_name?
What is meant by package_name? Is it the app's name? For example, `/data/data/gallery` I need to know what is in the app internal storage before I can delete it. Is there a way to limit the file size each app can have before apps have to ask for more space?

In my Samsung Galaxy S9, WhatsApp is showing that it uses 37.89GB of internal storage when I checked the app info. Image Due to that, my phone's data is getting full and all the other apps are getting hung due to less storage space left in my mobile phone. When I checked the WhatsApp 'Settings' -> 'Data and storage usage' it shows only 195.1MB of data has been stored for WhatsApp. Image From where the 37.89GB of data is being shown in the app info on my phone? **Please note:** I don't want to delete my WhatsApp and reinstall it to fix this issue because I don't want to lose my WhatsApp messages, and I can't take the backup also because there is no more space left on my mobile to take the backup.

I know there are tons of questions about this, but I have tried many possible solutions to no avail. I believe the "Out of space" error is misleading... I have a problem: **I cannot install any .apk file** no matter what I try... I can install apps using **Play Store** though. When I tap on an APK file in any file explorer, Android Package Installer launches. I tap the INSTALL button but I always got the following error: > Out of space {AnyAPKApp} couldn't be installed. Free up some space and > try again. I have *plenty* of space, but even a tiny 248 KB APK won't install with the same argument... This is the only problem I have with the ROM and it is very frustrating... First, the details of my case: - *Device:* Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime+ SM-G532M, alias Galaxy J2 Prime (Xtreme detects my device as *Model Number:* SM-G950F) - *Android:* 6.0.1 - *ROM:* Xtreme Ultimate V6.0 (15.07.2018) - *TWRP:* 3.0.2-0 - *Magisk:* v17.1 - *Magisk Manager:* 6.0.1 (151) - *Storage:* Adoptable - *Internal storage:* 7.02 GB used of 8.00 GB - *SD card:* 9.09 GB used of 14.70 GB - *Root Essentials "View storage used":* 9759/15787 MB (62%) - *DiskUsage analysis:* /system = 2.94 GiB; Free space 1.61 GiB I've already done my homework and tried all of the following to no avail: 1. Move all movable apps to SD 2. Enable Adoptable storage 3. Wipe *Dalvik / ART Cache* and *Cache* partitions with TWRP 4. Full clean with *SD Maid PRO* 5. Force move apps to SD using *SD Maid PRO* 6. Uninstall *Google Play Services* and *Google Play Store* updates 7. Overcome *unauthorized device* issue while using ADB 8. Trying to install APK using ADB (e.g. adb install someApp.apk). I got: Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE] 9. Delete /data/log contents as suggested here 10. Attempt to install in Safe Mode 11. Using Termux and the df command, I got the following output and there is free space in each partition: <code class=df output" class="img-fluid rounded" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto; margin: 10px 0;" loading="lazy"> 12. Using pm install test.apk in a terminal emulator (*Termux*) I got [INSTALL_FAILED_INVALID_URI]. Using full path pm install /storage/emulated/0/Download/test.apk I got the same error: Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE] The problem still remains. I think this is not really related to the full storage device error, I have plenty and the error seems misleading. It has to be something else... I gave as much info as I thought it was useful. If more is needed, just tell me to share it. I hope you can give me some advice to try to overcome this annoying issue. *P.S. I'll add more attempts to my list as I try them.*

"Your data may be corrupt": /e/os booting into recovery and crashing on startup after running out of disk space

I am on a Fairphone 3 and run /e/os 1.9. # Background # I recently started to run out of disk space each time one of my apps (Signal messenger) started to create a new backup, as my free space was not large enough to accommodate a new backup file. Yesterday I turned off the phone when I saw that the "little storage left" notification came up and the backup was running, and put a brand new micro SD card in the phone that I had meant to set up since a while. After powering up the phone again, the notification for low storage was (non-surprisingly) still showing, alongside with one for the new SD card. When I opened the SD card I saw that a lot of empty folders had been creating, mirroring the ones in my internal storage. The phone also started to vibrate repeatedly and showed "No log (file) could be created" in a small popup on the bottom of the screen. I decided to ignore that and try to move some files from the internal storage to the SD card to free up some space. After a short while, the phone crashed and rebooted into recovery. # Problem # When I power up the phone, it boots into recovery, showing this screen: Recovery Version 1.9 () Active slot: a Can't load Android system. Your data may be corrupt. If you continue to get this message, you may need to perform a factory data reset and erase all user data stored on this device. > Try again Factory data reset I can also navigate back into a recovery menu. When I select *try again*, the phone starts up as normal. I get then to unlock my SIM. However, as soon as try to unlock the normal lock screen for the first time, the phone will crash. If I just try to unlock the screen, an empty home screen will show for a moment, before my normal home screen loads (I use lawnchair as a launcher, which is not /e/os default). Then, sometimes a popup comes saying *??? launcher crashes all the time*, partially obscured by an other popup saying *Power off*. The phone will then reboot into the recovery. If I try to directly go to the settings page by swiping down and clicking the settings shortcut, that page is shown for a second or two before the phone also powers off and reboots into recovery. If I click on the "Out of storage" notification, the same thing happens. **I would really like to prevent losing my data.** # What I have tried so far # It appears like I can't do anything after unlocking my phone, as it will reboot directly. I have gone through the recovery and fastboot menus, trying to find anything that could be of help. I was able to activate ADB and browse around in the file system using
shell
, but none of my personal files where accessible and there was apparently a lot of space available on that partition. I was also able to *mount system* from an option in the recovery. Even this partition showed only 73% disk usage. It was also read-only, so I was not able to remove any files. The sdcard folder in both
/
and
/mnt/system/
was empty. The recovery also gives me the option to install an update, e.g. via adb sideload. I have not tried that, since I don't know how to do so and if it will give me access to my personal data. # What to do now? # If this would be a computer, I would use a live linux system to run
and similar tools to identify and repair the corrupted data and to free up some disk space. Is it possible to do something similar with my phone, for example using adb? Is there any way to access/recover and possibly back up my personal data?

Location of files: Main Storage versus SD card

I'm trying to figure out what is stored where on my Android phone (an unrooted Samsung Galaxy S8 with an SD card). I can examine the phone's contents either via any of the several file manager apps I've installed, or by mounting the entire phone as a network drive on my Windows 10 machine. My File Manager App shows me the contents of "Main Storage" and the contents of "SD Card". The contents of "Main Storage" show up on the network drive in a directory called /sdcard. The contents of "SD Card" show up on the network drive in a directory called /storage/0000-0000 . This is very odd, since the directory called "/sdcard" on the network drive is the *opposite* of the directory called "SD Card" in the File Manager app. The File Manager app shows 57 gigs total in "Main Storage" and 256 gigs in "SD Card". This suggests to me that the former is the phone's built-in memory and the latter is the actual SD card. But I'm thrown for a loop by the fact that the former is called "/sdcard" and the latter is called "storage/0000-0000", which seems backward. I could, of course, pull the SD card out of the phone and examine its contents directly on another device, but I'm squeamish about handling the card. And no matter what I learned, I'd still be curious about the odd naming conventions. So: Question 1: What's going on? What's in which directory? Question 2: If I want to back up all of the data (but not the system files or software) on my phone, does it suffice to make copies of /sdcard and /storage/0000-0000, or are there other places data might be stored? Additional Info: The App X-plore confirms the odd naming, in that it shows me two directories, one named both "Phone Memory" and /sdcard (it shows the former in bold and the latter in roman, both labeling the same directory) and another named both "SD card" and /storage/0000-0000.

I have a Asus Zenfone 2 and a few days ago it ran out of battery and turned off. Then after I charged it up and restarted it, it wouldn't turn on. It gets to the logo and the loading circle and just gets stuck there forever. I can get into recovery, but can't do anything in recovery, because everything gives this error: > E:failed to mount /cache (invalid argument) Trying to wipe cache, factory reset the phone, mount /system, flash a ROM from SD card, ADB sideload, everything gives the error multiple times. Factory reset formats /data fine, but when it gets to /cache, gives the error and aborts. Same thing with fastboot. I tried to flash TWRP (I have stock recovery) and I tried to erase and format cache through fastboot, but both give this error: > FAILED (remote: 'Can not mount the necessary partition') > >fastboot: error: Command failed Is there anything I can do to format the phone or somehow rebuild the partitions without being able to flash anything via recovery or fastboot? I don't know if tools like AFT or xfstk can do anything for me. Edit: I don't think the EMMC chip is dead, because the recovery partition is still fine, I can still boot into recovery and when I did a factory reset, it formatted /data without any errors, only had an error when it started formatting /cache. When I was looking for a solution to this problem, I read somewhere that sometimes when the device gets interrupted, like when it shuts down suddenly, to prevent data loss android would change permissions on the /cache partition to read only or something like that. This would certainly explain what happened to my phone. Just need to think of a way to access ADB shell on it to try to change permissions. Shell doesn't work in ADB sideload mode, that's the only ADB thing the stock recovery has. Is that a similar thing in fastboot by any chance?

I recently bought an Intenso microSDXC UHS-I Premium card, formatted it as internal storage, and the content has been moved without any errors. But after that, the phone started having several issues: - Most photos, videos, music, and recorded audio files are missing. - Some apps—like CamScanner, Foxit PDF Reader, and the camera—don’t work. - WhatsApp media (voices, images, videos) can’t be downloaded or saved. - App updates can’t be installed. - Storage shows a negative value (see attached photo). I’ve tried common fixes online and contacted the manufacturers, but nothing has worked. I also couldn’t find an option to reformat or separate the internal storage from the SD card. What would be the best next step? Should I try reinserting the SD card and choosing "forget" option, enable “Force allow apps on external” in Developer Options, or is there a better solution to recover the files and resolve the storage issues? - Device Name: Redmi Note 9 Pro - MIUI version: MIUI Global 12.0.3 Stable 12.0.3.0(QJZMIXM) - Android version: 10 QKQ1.191215.002 Phone Storage

After I got my phone restored from an nandroid backup, I found almost all apps cannot gain access to /sdcard/ (internal storage), including ES file manager, Z archiver and so on. When any of these apps access /sdcard/, or any other equivalent folders like /storage/emulated/0, /storage/emulated/legacy, /storage/sdcard0, they only shows a blank directory, and I cannot create any file or folder. When I try with the stock file manager (My files), it does show the files, but i cannot rename, edit, or create anything. Android File manager is able to copy most of my files out. But It stucks when I try to create a folder or send something. I tried to re-flash the same ROM again (which worked perfectly before), the issue remains. I have backed up important data from /sdcard/. In terminal emulator, cd sdcard, ls gives opendir failed: permission denied. Then I tried su, ls shows the correct directory. How should I fix it? Extra: I found a new folder called knox-emulated in /storage which is not there before. External SD card (/storage/extSdCard) works fine. Device Information: Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Android 4.4.2 Rooted, with a custom ROM modified based on the Stock ROM. Custom recovery installed.

This is the same to this question: https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/57844/cant-delete-file-in-download-folder But for me, the answer is not clear, as per the OP's answer 'he turned on the SD Maid app' but did not state what option in SD Maid resolved the issue. The OP stated as well 'he deleted the whole directory' but not specified if using SD Maid or PC. We have the same scenario where I redownloaded the same file, and after copying it to the exact location where I'm having an issue, it made two identical files and what I tried so far: 1. Highlighted both items and deleted them using SD Maid, it says success but after a refresh, it retains the other file with 0 bytes. 2. Connected my phone to PC as MTP and tried to delete it from there. What I noticed is it only shows one file, unlike looking in any Android file manager. It says success but checking it again on the phone it retains still the file with 0 bytes. 3. Tried apps in Play Store that says secure delete that uses a different algorithm but still, after it says yes, the same scenario occurs above. 4. Perform wipe cache partition in the stock recovery. 5. Clear data and cache of stock file manager. I know my last resort would be a complete factory reset, but is there any other way?

However, recently I noticed it is taking up the following storage: Total: 635 MB App: 24.5 MB App (SD Card): 0 MB Data: 610 MB Data (SD Card): 0 MB Considering my phone only has 2 GB of storage, the above is a heavy price to pay. When I hit the “Clear Data” button, I get the message “All this app’s data will be deleted permanently. This includes all files, settings, accounts, databases, etc.” I don’t want to delete my account so I was wondering if there is any other way to slim down how much data my Email application is using?

Is it possible to edit the fstab to mount /data, /cache, etc. from a different partition on the 1. internal memory? 2. external SD card? Details: The default partition for /data and /cache is too small for my needs and I can manage to format the (internal) /sdcard in ext4. My question may superficially seem to be like other questions asking for a way to increase the size of /data, but it's not. Here's why: 1. I need to do it *specifically* by editing fstab, which is the usual way of doing the same thing on a GNU/Linux desktop. 2. The other questions don't ask about /cache and other partitions.

It randomly fails to recognize the storage. After a device reboot, it would work for some time and fail again. In the "Storage & USB" settings menu, I clicked "Forget" on the external SD card. Then I realized I cannot access the data from my computer using the SD card reader. How can I re-plug the SD card back as Internal Storage without formatting it again?

You may note the almost duplicate title from this question . It keeps coming up when trying to solve my current issue. I created a little web app to help at work. Just some HTML and JavaScript, and before Android started enforcing the Scoped Storage, I had no issues using it. Now when I try to load the URL (ie: file:///storage/emulated/0/__MyDocs/SignInTracker.html) I get an access denied error. I could use Firefox, but it seems to be because it's not yet using the Scoped Storage standard, which if I understand correctly, will be a requirement in the next Android version, so that means I cannot rely on it working in the future. Also, Firefox just doesn't run as nicely as Chrome. Is there a proper way for a non-Android-developer to use a local web app like this? Is there perhaps a location on the phone where I can place my .html and .js files that will allow Chrome to access them without issues? At work, I'm not online or connected to anything, so loading from another server/computer is not an option. For reference: My Chrome version is 79.0.3945.116, my Firefox version is 68.4.1, and my phone OS is Android 10; Pixel Build/QP1A.191005.007.A1.
