Since .apk is a regular executable file, I was more than sure that I will be able to trick mobile Gmail in the same way as I was able to trick PC version of Gmail years ago to force it to send a PC executable (.exe) which it prevented as well. Turned out, I was wrong. Usually changing file extension to .dat or some other or compressing it with password (encrypting file) was enough for PC version of Gmail. However, for mobile version, everything that I have ready at a hand and tried failed as well: - sending as plain file (obviously), - changing .apk extension to .dat or some other, - compressing with ZIP with no password, - compressing with ZIP (ultra compression) and encrypting archive with a password, - compressing with 7ZIP (ultra compression) and encrypting archive with a password, - using an [7 years old idea](https://security.stackexchange.com/questions/35818/are-password-protected-zip-files-secure#comment55859_35818) of double compression: - compress .apk file into .zip file without password, - compress resulting .zip file again into another .zip file with password / encryption. If mobile Gmail is able to detect that I am sending .apk executable file even in 7zip compressed file with password (or it can prevent me from sending such file for any other reasons) do I have any option left? Is there any way to send .apk file over mobile Gmail (attach them to message composed in mobile Gmail)?

This is the same to this question: https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/57844/cant-delete-file-in-download-folder But for me, the answer is not clear, as per the OP's answer 'he turned on the SD Maid app' but did not state what option in SD Maid resolved the issue. The OP stated as well 'he deleted the whole directory' but not specified if using SD Maid or PC. We have the same scenario where I redownloaded the same file, and after copying it to the exact location where I'm having an issue, it made two identical files and what I tried so far: 1. Highlighted both items and deleted them using SD Maid, it says success but after a refresh, it retains the other file with 0 bytes. 2. Connected my phone to PC as MTP and tried to delete it from there. What I noticed is it only shows one file, unlike looking in any Android file manager. It says success but checking it again on the phone it retains still the file with 0 bytes. 3. Tried apps in Play Store that says secure delete that uses a different algorithm but still, after it says yes, the same scenario occurs above. 4. Perform wipe cache partition in the stock recovery. 5. Clear data and cache of stock file manager. I know my last resort would be a complete factory reset, but is there any other way?

What should I enter as my gateway and DNS 1 in my Galaxy S7's Wi-Fi settings to fix the particular Wi-Fi issue I'm having?
I was following [this user's advice][1] on how to fix `the internet may not be available` issue on my Galaxy S7. I was following this user's advice on how to fix the internet may not be available issue on my Galaxy S7. He said that in the Galaxy S7's Wi-Fi settings for the network you're connected to, you should change the IP address to static and then enter your router's IP address where it says "gateway" as well as where it says "DNS 1". What confused me about this a bit was that I use a Wi-Fi mesh setup in which my phone should actually connect to the router I'm using as a repeater, since it's more nearby, rather than the one that's the master. So I was wondering which of those I should enter and if it makes a difference. To describe the issue further: My Galaxy S7 sometimes just doesn't have internet, for hours on end, and upon checking, I once noticed it displayed the error "internet may not be available" with an exclamation mark next to its wifi symbol. This wasn't an issue until recently, despite not really having changed anything about my setup. I can temporarily resolve the issue by rebooting my S7. Another thing to take note of is that I don't use the S7 in a normal way. Instead, it's just permanently plugged into an AC adaptor and is supposed to act as a smart home-controlled alarm clock and mirror calendar notifications onto my other devices. To resolve the issue, I already unsuccessfully tried a bunch of troubleshooting steps that some website suggests: - Rebooting my router - Checking proxy is turned off and DCIHP is turned on - Deleting the network off my S7 and re-adding it - Uninstalling VPN apps - Making sure router and phone have the latest software Running Android 8, btw. My local network environment is just a normal home network with like a dozen devices with a mesh. I'm using two FritzBox 7490s. One is the master, and the other is the slave. The two are one floor apart from each other, and each covers a 70m² apartment. My S7 typically displays 3 out of 4 bars for Wi-Fi.

In the newest versions of Android, you can click and hold a suggested predictive/autocorrected word, and drag it into a bin (title "remove") to prevent it from being suggested again. I accidentally deleted the word "I", so now when I type "i" it doesn't automatically autocorrect to "I". Two related questions: 1. I tried shaking my phone to undo the accidental word removal (like I would undo things on an iPhone), but it didn't do anything. Is there a way I could've undone my action immediately after it happened? 2. Now that it's a few days after the face, how to do I add "I" back to the suggested words without having to completely erase all the things my keyboard has learned about my typing habits?

I need to get rid of it, flash a new ROM, and get everything back to normal. I've already tried to go to "Download mode" by pressing (VOL Down + Power + Home) but it just boots normally (download mode is disabled somehow) I've also searched for ADB solutions, but no luck yet. Lately I've been playing around with .sh scripting in Android. At first I used BusyBox and it's integrated scripting utility, though I quickly realised that coding on the phone isn't the best, so I switched over to my desktop and started using ADB to push my scripts to my device. It all worked well for about two weeks, until recently the exact same scripts that used to work perfectly, tell me some : not found: syntax error: '{ Error. I've copied the exact same code from my script and used BusyBox to create it for me, and that way it works just fine. So the code is fine. After some digging, I think it's either because of permissions, because of encoding possibly, or also because of the location of the scripts. I've tried many different locations (because I want to be able to run the scripts without root), and ended up choosing /storage/emulated/0. If I understood correctly, this is a symlink to the internal storage, which is read/write-able without root. But maybe sometimes executable and sometimes not? I don't know. So my question is as following: **What is the best location on an Android Device to run scripts without root from?** Preferably a path that works on any android device. Info: - Rooted Samsung S7 SM-G930F - Android 8.0.0 - I'm using #!/system/bin/sh inside the .sh files - I'm running the scripts with sh script.sh - When trying to run it as an executable ./script.sh, I get a Permission denied error. With or without root. PS: And if anyone has a clue to why the exact same scripts stopped working out of nowhere, I'd be happy to know! **UPDATE:** Thanks to @IrfanLatif, I've managed to fix the : not found: syntax error: '{ Error! I was using Visual Studio Code as my editor for the scripts, which was saving them with the End of Line Sequence CRLF, which Android doesn't like. For an easy fix, just change your Line Endings to LF, problem solved. Check the comments out for more info.

I want to set up an auto-task in MiXplorer to delete two types of files that another application creates – one appears in two different folders, and another is in one folder but has different numeric strings appended to it each time it's created. Is it possible to set a task for each with a wildcard that will work on either, like /internalstorage/$/.crap.tmp and/or internalstorage/backups/system/crap_$ (where $ is some wildcard character or string). I tried asterisks but that didn't work, and tried figuring out if there was something to the regex renaming format that I could understand and use, but couldn't. I'm using Android 8.0.0, MiXplorer 6.46.1. Thanks much.

My phone randomly shows the Download Manager downloading "Google play". I usually cancel this download since it seems fishy to me, and that's what my question (asked below) is about. Since this sounds all too common and like many questions posted here, let me clarify what this is not: - This is not a download within the Google Play store. - All apps are up to date in my play store. - My OS was recently updated to Oreo (Samsung Galaxy S8). - All my Samsung apps are also up to date. - As far as I can tell, I have set all updates to happen only on wifi, not on mobile data connections. - The download is happening via Download Manager. Long-press etc shows me info about the default "download manager" app itself, not about what it is trying to download. This reeks of malware to me, wherein some shady app might have just named itself "Google Play" so that I allow it to be downloaded and run it. A malware scan shows nothing (of course, I aborted the attempted download so that file was not scanned, but there seems to be no trojan trying to download more stuff) My questions are: - Has anyone seen this issue? Is it a regular deal, so that I should just let the phone do what it wants? - If this is "business as usual", how do I set it to happen on wifi and not on mobile data? - If this seems suspicious, what steps could I take to further investigate / remove the problem?

A few non-rooted (no rooted) Android 7 and 8 phones from (Huawei, ZTE, Neffos and Samsung) were tested in this simple firewall (NetGuard) experiment. A selection of apps (including apps from the phone manufacturer) was chosen to be blocked from accessing the Internet regardless using Mobile Data or WiFi, by using NetGuard. Before the experiment, NetGuard and GlassWire for Android were installed. The GlassWire is activated to monitor if these apps still can access to the Internet. Throughout the experiment, GlassWire reported that some apps, that were blocked by NetGuard, had network traffic to the Internet. Therefore, it seems that users who buy any Android phones are denied full control of the phone, even if they have installed privacy protection apps such as NetGuard. So, to make the experiment fair enough, this question is posted here, requesting help from experts out there, on whether what is the actual problem(s). Is the problem caused because GlassWire reports false positives? Or NetGuard requires special configurations in order to block Internet for selected apps? Or Android phones disregard users and allow apps to access Internet even though NetGuard was installed?

I have Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge on Android 8.0 Oreo (additional software information). Until yesterday, application notifications were flashing on the LED indicator, but from yesterday to today it stopped happening, even though nothing updated on the device. It warns that it is charging with the red LED, and it warns when it has finished charging with the blue LED, but it does not flash to notify that there are new notifications as it used to do. I checked if LED it's enabled, and yes it is. I already checked if the applications are activated, yes they are. I checked if it's in DO NOT DISTURB mode, and it's not. I haven't changed any settings from yesterday to today, however, this is happening. What can I check to try to find the problem?

I'm a parent, using an accountability app (MMGuardian) to limit access to certain games and apps on a Nexus 5X. The child phone is running Android 8.1.0. MMGuardian can't stop a child from rebooting into safe mode for 7.0+, and the child using this phone has figured that out. I'm looking for a solution that either holds the child accountable, or prevents access to safe mode altogether. Here are ideas I've thought of: * Custom lock screen that sends the parent pin to the OS when the child pin is entered. When rebooted in safe mode, lock screen wouldn't start and the child wouldn't know the parent pin. * Some kind of app that sends an sms to the parent phone when the child phone reboots. If possible, include whether or not the child phone was previously in safe mode. (Nine Mail app turns off all sync functionality if the phone was rebooted in safe mode. How does it know!?) Unfortunately, since I'm not an android developer I don't know if apps like that exist or are possible to write. Does anyone have suggestions for apps I can install or settings I can change that would either A) Prevent starting in safe mode. OR B) Notify me, when the child phone has started in safe mode?
