Text message notification- vibration during call
I am on Moto G4+ with Android N, version 7.0. I am facing a weird issue where any incoming text message causes the phone to vibrate **even when I am in the middle of a phone call.** Is there a standard first party way to turn this behaviour off? This is really annoying.

I am following this guide: [\[GUIDE\] Unlock/Root/Flash for Nexus 6P][1] The bootloader is already unlocked. Now I'm trying to flash the **TWRP recovery**. (Section 2). As the device runs Android N, I first flashed the modified boot.img (like in the guide, also tried it with stock boot.img) and then I flashed the **TWRP recovery** like this: username@my_pc:~/Android/Sdk/platform-tools$ ./fastboot flash boot '/home/username/Downloads/boot.img' target reported max download size of 494927872 bytes sending 'boot' (12272 KB)... OKAY [ 0.333s] writing 'boot'... OKAY [ 0.185s] finished. total time: 0.518s username@my_pc:~/Android/Sdk/platform-tools$ ./fastboot flash recovery '/home/username/Downloads/twrp.img' target reported max download size of 494927872 bytes sending 'recovery' (16932 KB)... OKAY [ 0.453s] writing 'recovery'... OKAY [ 0.251s] finished. total time: 0.704s Then I rebooted to the **bootloader** again, and then booted to the **recovery mode**, like explained in the guide: >Use the volume keys to scroll and power key to select the Reboot Bootloader option. Once the phone has booted back into the bootloader you can use the volume keys to scroll and the power key to boot into your newly flashed recovery. It's now safe to disconnect your usb cable. However, it just hangs at the TWRP splash screen: Stuck at TWRP splash screen The phone still works and can successfully boot to Android N. I know the bootloader is unlocked because of the unlock symbol at boot logo, and I rooted it (same guide) on Android Marshmallow. About phone (click for larger image): About phone

I've also tried Tenorshare UltData, but it can't retrieve .crypt12 files. Is there a way to recover and restore my databases/chats?

I would like to enable Do Not Disturb on a phone via ADB. I have located the settings namespace and key which controls Do Not Disturb: adb shell settings put global zen_mode 2 But when I run this command and then get the key its value remains set to "0". If I enable Do Not Disturb manually on the phone, then look at the key, it shows "2" as I expect. I am using stock Samsung S7/S7 Edge phones, with Android 7.0, not rooted. Is there a step missing in order to toggle this particular setting via ADB? Thus far I haven't had issues changing any other settings in this way, so it's confusing why this does not work.

I've been looking on the internet for an answer, to no avail. I have a phone mostly used in France, I recently brought to the US with a US sim card. Unfortunately, most contacts were added with the default French format (ten-digit number starting by "06" or "07"). Unfortunately, here in the US, one would need to have the country code in front of the number (+336 instead of 06) for the text to go through the US network. And this is where Android shows its weaknesses. Indeed, even if you: 1. delete a complete SMS conversation 2. add the country code to the contact, and then change one digit at the end of the contact so the number associated to the conversation should be removed from the system 3. reboot the phone 4. wait 1 day for anything delayed to take effect 5. change the digit back into the real number, this time with country code 6. try to send a text by explicitly typing in the number (not the contact name) with +33 Then, it does not matter that you have done steps 1-5, Android will still "snap" your complete number with country code, to the default one he had (and still remembers somehow), which was without. It now comes to the extent that I especially pay attention when writing a new contact, to *always* add the country code, since the first time the system sees the number, so that it can never dream of removing that country code by itself. I have tried installing a third-party SMS app like Pulse SMS, but it uses Android's built in SMS contact book, so same "snap" problem. What I would like instead, would be an SMS app that ignores the contact book, or recreates its own from the real contact book (not the image of the contact book stored in the SMS app), so that I can finally "force" the country code onto the SMS app (or more simply, that adding the country code in the address book would add it in the SMS app, which would be normal behavior), so the SMS can be sent, otherwise, it can't! Does anyone know of such a low-level SMS app, or of a way to trick the built-in app to finally use the country code? Thanks!

Is there a way to make Android/a Galaxy S7 prompt Win 7 to install the drivers for MTP? I own two S7 I use for work, one I've had for a while and used it to develop Android apps, the second I got a week ago and set it up today. Both I updated to Nougat 7.0 today (they were both on 6.0 with different Builds) and my old one instantly made Windows install the drivers for MTP and PTP but the new one only did it for PTP. I can still access everything on it with MTP but Eclipse/Android Studio/adb devices don't see it with that. I tried killing the adb server, unplugging, restarting, changing the setting to PTP and back,... but nothing has worked so far. The devloper mode and USB debugging are enabled on both S7s and I also updated the Google USB driver and installed the Android 7.0 SDK Platform through the Android SDK Manager today. The latest version of Kies is installed too but it also can't see the new S7 in MTP mode (to be honest, didn't test with PTP mode). So, is there a way to kind of reset the whole MTP deal on the new S7 (preferebly without resetting the phone), so it makes Win 7 look for drivers again? Bonus question: Can I make Nougat's developer settings' USB debugging default to PTP? Every time I unplug the phone, Android sets it back to MTP.

So I bought new Nexus 5x with android 6.0 and everything worked fine, but when I updated to 7.1.2 suddenly wifi stoped working. (It seeks for wifi networks forever). When I go to settings I can see MAC adress which is default one 02:00:00:00:00:00. I've noticed that its common problem for phone like Nexus 5, 5x 6p and Pixels but all solutions I could find just failed. **What i have tried:** first simplest solutions they gave like pulling off SIM card, turning off phone, charging battery to 100%. - Failed Then i was trying to install other versions of Nougath 7, 7.1 , 7.1.2. Switching back to Android 6 makes wifi running again. Some people said that changing MAC adress resolved issue, so firstly I have rooted my phone. Then I have tried to use some external programs for changing MAC but they didint worked. **Problem** I am trying to change MAC manualy. I did it few times on other linux/windows machines with no issue. when i check for avalible network interfaces throught *ifconfig* it outputs bullhead:/ $ ifconfig rmnet_ipa0 Link encap:UNSPEC UP RUNNING MTU:2000 Metric:1 RX packets:843 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1129 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:563887 TX bytes:210944 dummy0 Link encap:UNSPEC inet6 addr: fe80::78e6:16ff:fe96:3cf7/64 Scope: Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING NOARP MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:3 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:0 TX bytes:210 rmnet_data0 Link encap:UNSPEC inet addr:10.156.9.217 Mask:255.255.255.252 inet6 addr: fe80::53e3:f4d7:6ca9:be5e/64 Scope: Link UP RUNNING MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:843 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1129 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:568878 TX bytes:210944 lo Link encap:UNSPEC inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope: Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:65536 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:0 TX bytes:0 there is no *eth0* interface nor *wlan0*. All of those interfaces does not have mac assigned. As I have tested *rmnet_ipa0* and *rmnet_data0* are probably for mobile connection (ifconfig (rm..) down makes mobile connection off. So my question is how do I find network interface for wifi so I can try digging in it. Thanks!

I've just installed Android Phoenix OS as a virtual machine using bhyve hypervisor. The problem that I have is that I'm not able to upgrade the Google Play Services for some reason : a And if it is not upgraded to the latest version,the NetFlix app does not work. Neither if I make the installation of the apk file. I've registered Android by executing the following commands inside the Termux terminal : ANDROID_RUNTIME_ROOT=/apex/com.android.runtime ANDROID_DATA=/data ANDROID_TZDATA_ROOT=/apex/com.android.tzdata ANDROID_I18N_ROOT=/apex/com.android.i18n sqlite3 /data/data/com.google.android.gsf/databases/gservices.db "select * from main where name = \"android_id\";" and yes,it says that the device has been registered. I am trying to recover user data from a bricked Oukitel K3. The device had Android 7.0 and a MediaTek MT6750T processor. SP Flash Tool enabled me to download the full contents of the EMMC. Then I extracted the userdata.img and decrypted it. (I found the decryption info and keys in metadata.img) I'm now attempting to mount the decrypted image in order to access the files, but I am getting the following error:
$ mount -v -o ro,loop userdata.img /mnt/user_data/
mount: /mnt/user_data: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0, missing codepage or helper program, or other error.

$ dmesg
 EXT4-fs (loop0): Unrecognized mount option "\\x1cb\\x1d\\xb6T\\xdcW\\xb35\\xe9
The error seems to suggest that the filesystem is compressed in some way - i.e. sparse image. However, it doesn't have the magic header; output of simg_dump.py:
simg_dump.py: userdata.img: Magic should be 0xED26FF3A but is 0x97DCD0F0
Output of file command:
userdata.img: Linux rev 1.0 ext4 filesystem data, UUID=57f8f4bc-abf4-655f-bf67-946fc0f9f25b (needs journal recovery) (extents) (large files)
Output of fsstat command: [https://pastebin.com/raw/sXRS5WSc](https://pastebin.com/raw/sXRS5WSc) Has anyone else ever encountered such issues? It seems that I am very close to getting the data, but I just have no idea how to mount this file.

How to set the Data Billing Cycle to one day in Nougat?
My ISP provides me with 1GB data per day. So the data billing cycle in Nougat would actually make more sense to me if I could somehow make it show the amount of data I've used in a day and then have it reset for the next day. I'm using Resurrection Remix ROM 5.8.5. Is there a way to do this?

The problem now is I feel like my phone has stopped receiving updates from the manufacturer so I want to know if it is possible to manually upgrade it through ADB (or something) with my laptop. When I check the phone's software updater it says there are no upgrades and it's the latest version but we both know that isn't true, so I'm trying to forcefully upgrade it. My phone is T-Mobile and the model is 5049W **Edit:** It doesn't even seem like there's a custom ROM/recovery for this particular model of T-Mobile.

After staying for so long on Marshmallow, today I finally made the decision to upgrade one of my secondary devices with Nougat (LineageOS 14.1 to be precise). Everything went smooth and most things stayed familiar... except this weird entry in Settings - Developer options - Running services. screenshot screenshot screenshot Screenshots (click images for larger variants) I'd keep the running process list as clean as possible (habit, don't question why), but when I clicked into this "Android Services Library" and tried to stop it, it says it runs a "Notification ranker service" (second screenshot). Clicking "Settings" there takes me to an app preference screen (third screenshot; likely the same as in Settings - Apps) that contains nothing about the service or the app: Furthermore, I can't find any reference on how this "notification ranker" mechanism works, or even what it is. Note that I also flashed stock Nougat on my Nexus 6P before, and from what I remember, that one also has this service running, so it's not specific to LineageOS. Can anyone with sufficient knowledge tell me what it does, and what will happen if I disable this service via external means, e.g. will notification functions be affected?

Is there a reliable, reproducible way to clear DNS cache on Android Nougat 7.0? I know there is at least one other question like this but that one was from 8 years ago and I hope I can ask again and see what people are doing these days. To explain a bit more my setup: I am testing a simple web page loading in Chrome browser with Wireshark packet capture to see the DNS requests. I am also running dnsmasq on my LAN and have mapped my webpages name: mymovies to the correct IP address of the machine on my LAN that the web server is on. So http://mymovies should work and it does load. The DNS lookups initially start with the DHCP server appending the DNS suffix (.home) so in the packet trace I see a DNS request for mymovies.home which fails because I don't have an IP address mapping for that in dnsmasq.conf. So a second DNS lookup for just mymovies appears and is successful. Mostly I find that subsequent DNS lookups are always just for mymovies and never again for mymovies.home no matter what I try to clear the DNS cache: I am testing over WiFi with a Moto G5 running Android 7.0 and it is rooted so I can run commands from within adb shell to the OS. I have tried lots of things like: 1. Closing down Chrome browser and starting it up again. 2. chrome://net-internals/#dns to clear host cache and flushing the sockets too 3. Settings > Apps > Chrome > Storage > Clear Cache 4. ndc resolver clearnetdns wlan0 The only thing that seemed to work for me was turning the phone off and on again. After restart I opened http://mymovies in Chrome on the phone. The page loaded and in the Wireshark trace I see the first DNS request for mymovies.home which fails as usual followed by a DNS request for mymovies that succeeds. I then closed down that tab and opened a new one and loaded the page again.. I did this twice. Each time now I see a dns request for mymovies only.. it doesn't even try mymovies.home. I restarted dnsmasq server and the first DNS lookup after that was for mymovies.home followed by a lookup for mymovies. But since then the DNS lookups are now only ever for mymovies. This is despite restarting the dnsmasq server a few times and trying the four so-called DNS cache clearing steps listed above. But to confuse the matters, I tried the trick of switching into and back out of Airplane Mode. Now when I load my little test web page a few times it doesn't seem to cache at all anymore? Loading the webpage always initially gives a DNS look up for mymovies.home which fails then a lookup for mymovies that succeeds. Even after restarting the phone the DNS lookups have now stopped caching completely and it firstly tries mymovies.home every time! I think this caching behavior is normal and expected but I'd just like a way to clear that cache so it goes back to trying mymovies.home without me having to restart the phone. I'm not sure if the IPv6 has anything to do with things? In my router I have specified the IP address of the Raspberry Pi on my LAN that dnsmasq is running on so the router directs DNS requests to it. I don't want the page to stop caching OR to always cache. I just want to be able to clear the DNS cache in a predictable manner so I can make the DNS request for mymovies.home appear once followed by the expected DNS caching.

According to a well-regarded QA answer by a member of our Android community here on Stack Exchange: > By the current schedule, Let's Encrypt cross signing will end on September the 30th 2024. After this date Android 7.1 stock devices will become more or less useless for Internet surfing as all Let's encrypt based certificates will be considered untrusted and the connection will not be established. Has this schedule changed? I haven't seen any announcement of a change, but I've noticed that affected devices suddenly have certificate validation failures when trying to connect to many internet hosts. The problem seems to stem from Let's Encrypt R3, which is affected by the changes that were supposed to be effective much later this year. Is there any documentation as to why these devices are being affected earlier than planned? Are there any workarounds for non-rooted devices?
