I have 60+ Android devices, all connecting to a local WiFi. I never want them to connect to the internet, so have put firewall rules in place to prevent any internet access. However, they all disconnect and never reconnect, or maintain a stable connection, because of needing some level of internet reponse from google servers. I have proven this by allowing the internet back onto the network and everything is fine again.
can anyone advise what addresses i should be premitting in the firewall rules to make the devices think the network is fine, or is there some local way of faking a response so they dont even need to care about the google server?
Thanks in advance, its been driving me crazy for a month. I have tried the ADB settings for captive portal to no effect either.

How does WiFi in android detect if the device has to sign in or not?

I tried downloading apps from Google Play Store via WiFi, but I got error 495.
I tried all the steps like:
- Clear cache data from the Play Store app
- Delete Google account and recreate it
- Factory reset
- Rebooting device.
I assure you that the problem is not with the device. It has lots of memory space, so it's not [tag:insufficient-memory] error. And apps can be downloaded in mobile data. I followed the steps which are provided on the troubleshooting page for "495". But no luck.
Anyone gives me a clear idea of why the apps are not able to download via WiFi only?

I have a samsung galaxy chat B5330 device.
Whenever I try to connect it to wifi, I get various errors as follows,
1. Using DHCP :- Here it shows a "obtaining IP address" message but never connects.
2. Using Static IP :- It connects to wifi but then shows a "internet not available" error. I'm sure that internet is available as many others use it successfully using other android devices/laptops etc.
EDIT:
I found out that not all are able to use the wifi. Some do not get connected(stuck in "obtaining ip address"), some get the "internet not available" error, some connect and get internet but at very slow speeds(10 KBps download speed) while some lucky dudes get blazing speed(10MBps download speed)
Could this occur due to to many signals at same place? At any given place in campus, we get at least 2 strong and 1/2 weak wifi signals, not to mention some secured portable wifi hotspots from androids.
How do I solve this error.
Note that I don't own the router/wifi, it's open(No security, accessible by any student.)

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone running on Android 5.0. At home and in the office, when I'm connected to a WiFi network and the screen is locked (sleep), WhatsApp doesn't receive any messages until I unlock the screen. I don't use so many apps so I can't confirm if this is the case with other applications or not, however, I might have experienced the same problem with the email app as well.
I have observed my phone behavior and noted that other applications (e.g., hangouts) show act the same. Furthermore, I noted another fact that might shed some light: Say, I unlock my screen and after several seconds my apps start to notify me about some messages. But the time-stamp of these messages aren't for this moment but rather [e.g.] half an hour ago when they were supposed to be delivered.
"Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" is set to "Always", I don't have any power management application or any particular settings. I checked WhatsApp FAQ and they suggested checking priority notification, which I don't use. Searching the web suggests clearing cache and data which doesn't solve the problem. I have cleared the cache/data files, updated the app, etc. I would highly applicate if you submit answers that do not suggest these generic (and almost always non-functional) workarounds.
Any workaround?

I've recently switched from a Pixel 7a to a 9a due to a broken screen. On the Pixel 9a, I have a very strange issue: When my phone is inactive for a while, it keeps Wi-Fi connection (icon on the top shows Wi-Fi), but when I try to open the browser and do anything, it hangs as if I have no internet connection.
On the Wi-Fi page, it also says "Connected / No Internet". Other devices on the same Wi-Fi connection have no issue. To resolve the issue, I have to turn Wi-Fi off and back on. Then it works normally. Why does this happen? How can I prevent it? My Pixel 7a didn't have this issue.
Here are some things I've tried, that did not help:
- **Disable Adaptive Connectivity** -- It seemed like the most likely suspect, plus it was recommended on some reddit thread. Didn't work.
- **Disable VHT80** -- It was recommended to me to disable VHT80 on my access point and switch to WHT40 or just Full 20. I tried that, didn't make a difference.
- **Switch to WPA-2** -- It was recommended to me to disable WPA-3 and switch to WPA-2. I tried that, didn't work.
- **Reset the Network Settings** -- As suggested by Robert in the comments, I tried resetting the network settings. That did not fix the issue.
- **Disable Adaptive Battery.** -- As suggested by Rohit Gupta in an answer below. No change.
- **Disable Private DNS** -- Suggested by Gemini AI. Seemed hopeful at first, but did not work.
- **Get a replacement phone** -- I contacted Google, explained the issue, and was offered a replacement phone. New phone arrived, different IMEI number, but still same issue.
- **Delete the DuckDuckGo app.** -- This was the only app I installed pretty much after a clean reset, when asked which search provider I wanted. It also installed some kind of VPN service unbeknownst to me. It *did* drastically improve response times to pings, but the main issue still persists.
- **Disable DHCP** -- I tried disabling DHCP, enabling a static IP address, as I read Android had some DHCP-related bug at some point. No change.
- **Set 8.8.8.8 as DNS** -- Might as well try. No change.
- **Use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi instead of 5 GHz.** -- Perhaps that had some effect? It did not.
I'm running Android 15, build BD4A.250505.003.
My router is a Linksys WRT1900ACS.
# Update:
I reinstalled Android from scratch, and now the Wi-Fi connection is even worse. It randomly breaks, even when the phone is actively in use. I've tried pinging the phone continuously while it's in use, and I get
From 192.168.1.3 icmp_seq=10 Destination Host Unreachable
repeatedly.
At this point, I genuinely believe that my phone's hardware is broken.
# Update 2
I received a replacement phone with the exact same problem. Maybe the idea of having internet in my own home is just too complicated for modern tech.

Is there a way to auto-fill the username/password when connecting to a Wifi's Captive Portal? If possible, I would like a method that does not require root access.
The portal opens with the system's default "HTML viewer" and not with Firefox/Chrome which would solve the problem since these browsers offer auto-fill.
This question has been asked in the past and users suggested:
- Captive Portal Controller app (but requires root)
- CaptivePortalLogin app which claims to do this, but is in beta and does not seem to work for me.

In *Developer options*, there is a setting called "Always allow Wi-Fi roam scans" with the description:
> **Always allow Wi-Fi roam scans**

> Allow/disallow Wi-Fi roam scans based on the amount of data traffic present at the interface
The description leads me to guess it might be useful when you are on the edge of the WiFi coverage zone, switching to another WiFi may be faster.
Googling threw up results confirming my guess on posts like [this](https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12543176/workaround-android-devices-do-not-roam-wifi) (a few more on similar lines). However, would request more explanation, since this is not encountered commonly as a suggestion to counter WiFi drops.
**Is it of any use for end-users to activate it?**

CaptivePortalLogin has stopped
Open app again
I have tried also using Firefox or Chrome to find the portal by accessing a random HTTP page or the exact URL that my laptop is directed to to log in. Firefox returns "Server not found"; Chrome says "You are offline",
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET
. My phone is set to not use mobile networks for data.
Is there any way to fix this or is there a workaround?
System information:
* Android 8.1.0 (security patch level 1 June 2018)
* Nokia 6.1, model TA-1050
* Kernel 4.4.78-perf+ (1/6/2018)
EDIT: I've tried a few apps as a workaround, such as [Wifi Web Auth](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=es.hol.galvisoft.wifiwebauth) in case CaptivePortalLogin is the problem. This app errors with "Web page not available", ERR_INTERNET_DISCONNECTED
, which seems like an odd complaint for an app designed to establish a connection. [Wifi Quick Login](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.albionresearch.wifiquickconnect) fails as well.

Thinking of security issues like:

My problem is very specific: My office WiFi is not visible on my phones WiFi list, but everyone else's phones can connect just fine. However, my phone can connect to every other WiFi with no problem. In fact, every other WiFi (21 of them) on my laptops list is also visible on my phone. It is *only* my office WiFi which is not visible. This happened after a WiFi upgrade a few months ago. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

I've just set up a WiFi router to use with an audio device which is controllable by Android devices through LAN. This router is expected to not have an internet connection - its sole purpose for me is to route the local network and enable the controlling via my Android phone.
However, my phone (a Moto G5S, with Android 7.1.1 installed) simply refuses to connect to this router - even though I can perfectly connect to it from a laptop. I even removed my other routers from my phone, to prevent it from jumping to WiFi connections that have internet, but it still doesn't connect to this "offline router".
Now, a bit of a plot twist: I did see a notification about the WiFi connection not having access to the internet, but I simply swiped it off. I tried connecting with my wife's Android, and, instead of swiping off the notification on her phone, I clicked it and I saw that it offered the option to stay connected even without internet. However, I can't do this on my Android anymore, since I got rid of that notification. Yeah, I feel stupid, but, in my defense, I had no idea that ability would be only available there. I even tried "forgetting" the WiFi connection and re-entering the password, but it just won't show me that notification anymore.
So, any ideas of how to fix this, guys? How can I force the connection to my internet-less router, or, alternatively, how can I force my Android to show me the notification about "WiFi offline" again?

I've installed [Neo Backup](https://f-droid.org/packages/com.machiav3lli.backup) which allows me to do (scheduled) backups of my applications data to device's file system. Now what I want is to use my PC as a storage for that backups, and transfer them via wifi.
I have 2 Wi-Fi use cases:
- When my phone and PC are connected to the home router,
- And when my PC connected to the phone in hotspot mode.
So I want backups to work in both cases.
There are application named [SyncThing](https://syncthing.net) which I familiar with, but it's not suitable for my case because I don't want backups to be stored and take space on the phone at all. But one great feature of SyncThing is that both devices can find each other no matter which local network they are in.
I tried [CIFS Documents Provider](https://f-droid.org/ru/packages/com.wa2c.android.cifsdocumentsprovider) , and it works, but only when I know exact IP or hostname of my PC in local network. It seems like what I really need is the similar application but with ability to find my PC no matter what IP or hostname it has. Anyone can suggest such, or maybe other solution for my needs?
