I've just set up a WiFi router to use with an audio device which is controllable by Android devices through LAN. This router is expected to not have an internet connection - its sole purpose for me is to route the local network and enable the controlling via my Android phone. However, my phone (a Moto G5S, with Android 7.1.1 installed) simply refuses to connect to this router - even though I can perfectly connect to it from a laptop. I even removed my other routers from my phone, to prevent it from jumping to WiFi connections that have internet, but it still doesn't connect to this "offline router". Now, a bit of a plot twist: I did see a notification about the WiFi connection not having access to the internet, but I simply swiped it off. I tried connecting with my wife's Android, and, instead of swiping off the notification on her phone, I clicked it and I saw that it offered the option to stay connected even without internet. However, I can't do this on my Android anymore, since I got rid of that notification. Yeah, I feel stupid, but, in my defense, I had no idea that ability would be only available there. I even tried "forgetting" the WiFi connection and re-entering the password, but it just won't show me that notification anymore. So, any ideas of how to fix this, guys? How can I force the connection to my internet-less router, or, alternatively, how can I force my Android to show me the notification about "WiFi offline" again?

Need a hint as I am running out of ideas to progress in my project: I have two phones: a Pixel 6a / Android 14 and an old Huawei / Android 9. I have a network with an Access Point for WiFi connections of PCs and Smartphones and a gateway to the internet. All works fine, PCs and smartphones can access devices in the local network as well as the internet. When the connection to the internet goes down: - PCs can no longer access sites in the internet (obviously), but can access devices in the local network via browser specifying the local IP address (all devices are in the same subnet) – either with LAN connection or WiFi connection. - Smartphones, however, cannot access devices in the local network …. joining the WiFi network is successful (it states no internet access, which I know and don’t need now) but when specifying a local IP address in the browser the connection times out. It's clear that the phone switches to cellular if the web connection of the WiFi gateway is down. However, I do not intend to connect to the web but want to connect to local devices through a browser specifying the local IP address while the connection to the web is down (for connecting to local devices I don't need the web connection). Accessing local devices is working fine while the web connection is up but times out when the connection to the web is down. What setting on the smartphone might be wrong or missing that prevents access to local devices when the connection to the internet is interrupted?

I have local DNS (bind9) and DHCP (isc-dhcp-server) working to the point where my desktop and servers can see each other using the domain voncorax.internal. However, I also have two Samsung devices running Android 14. I have been able to get proper address resolution by configuring static IP and specifying my DNS server's IP address for both DNS1 and DNS2, but my devices are unable to resolve any names on my LAN when configured via DHCP. (Android appears to be forcing DNS2 to be 8.8.4.4.) Is there any way to set up my DNS and/or DHCP servers so Android will preferentially use my LAN's DNS server?

I know when you have a cellular connection you can set up tethering and have an id and password that can be discovered by other devices. Is it possible to do this without any cellular connection? I don't actually need internet access at all. All I'm looking for is to set up a small WiFi LAN between an Android tablet and a small device running Debian Linux.

It's in my optical fiber router and I can assign it to a LAN host of my choice. Before answering, please read the following points: 1. I don't want to use the WiFi interface 2. I tried an USB-to-ethternet cable but that allows me to configure the phone as an Ethernet-to-LTE access point for the LAN attached hosts. My goal is to make the device (Quest 2) on 192.168.254.x (Wi-Fi hotspot) discoverable to my PC on 192.168.96.x (USB Tethering), because I want to set up ALVR and make my Quest 2 and my PC on different subnets talk to each other. Right now, I'm testing with **laptop - rooted phone with Termux - PC** configuration. I tried ip route add 192.168.254.13 via 192.168.96.20 command, where 192.168.254.13 is my Laptop with Ubuntu and 192.168.96.20 is my PC with Windows 11. My PC does not respond to pings from my laptop, but the laptop does ping the gateway which is 192.168.96.19, and is getting responses. I'm probably doing something wrong, but can't figure out what exactly. I don't have much network knowledge and I have a basic Linux understanding, so any answer/tutorial will be appreciated. I don't need any internet access when on Quest, but I would still want internet on my PC.

currently I don’t have both devices at the same place to test this, but maybe someone uses a similar setup. So I’d like to use an android tv box with a NAS device connected directly to the ethernet port of the android device. So there is no router in between. I can set a fixed ip address on the NAS, I guess the same can be done on the device running android. And android should immediately detect the SMB share on the NAS when connected this way, right? Currently I have the NAS connected to an old samsung tv this way and it works as a media server for the tv. But I lose internet on the tv, because wifi can’t be used at the same time when the NAS is connected. What would be really cool is if I could use android’s wifi connection while the NAS is connected to ethernet, and if android was able to somehow passthrough the NAS’ SMB share to the rest of the local network devices, so they could also read/write to the NAS. Any thoughts if something like this could be done? Connecting the NAS to the router doesn’t work for me, because LAN cable doesn’t reach the place where the tv is and wifi is too slow for video.

I am attempting to construct a LAN/WLAN to which computers, smartphones and tablet are connected. I would like to be able to access all these devices from from any device via some file manager and open these files locally 'on the fly' as opposed to having to download the files completely before I can open them. I have done so with desktops and laptops on which either Windows or Ubuntu were installed. 'On the fly' file access works like a charm by means of Windows Explorer or Nautilus using Samba. I now want the same for smartphones and tablets. I have attempted to do so by means of Samba again. But I do not know how to solve a few problems. 1) When using 'Samba Filesharing for Android' I can only seem to access data on the tablet/smartphone from the desktop/laptop, but not the other way around. 2) When using 'AndSMB' I can not directly open files on the other devices. I have to completely download them first. I can't seem to find software for the Android smartphones and tablets that works as simple and effective as Windows Explorer or Nautilus, where you can open files locally without having to download them completely first, and do this from any device to any other device on the LAN.

I thought it would be caused by a setting on my modem, but searching on Google cannot help me find out. Please tell me how to get my android connected to the PC so I can access files again. Details: I have ES Explorer 3 on Android. My Android is connected to the internet through the same modem as my PC. The D partition has been shared as "Everyone to view. When I add a new server from ES File Explorer, it says "Error, Can not find the server" Update: I have turned off Windows Firewall.

On a Moto G (5) Plus running Android 8.1.0, API 27, I have Default Print Service under Settings > Connected devices > Printing. When I click on Default Print Service it starts searching for printers, which doesn't return anything, even though my printer and phone are on 192.168.3.x (my home LAN). I can click the 3 dot menu and click Add printer, then under *Add manual printer*, I type the IP address of the printer, but the result is immediate: > Printer not supported The printer is connected to the LAN through a JetDirect 300X (yes, very old technology). But the printer works fine when configured to receive output from Windows machines. On Windows, I put in the IP address, Port Number 9100, protocol Raw. The driver is HP LaserJet5, which comes with Windows. Beyond the default print service, I also tried and HP Print Service that I found on GooglePlay, but I could not find a way to manually add a printer using that. Is there a way to get my phone to print to this LAN connected printer?

Bear with me because I think this is a really odd situation. It all started by noticing that my android phone (and some other phones) loses more than 10% of battery during night while doing nothing (only wifi and mobile-data was active). Using dumpsys batterystats, it showed me this strange wakeups: enter image description here As it is evident from the log, the phone gets woken up roughly every 3 seconds. I first thought of some app in my phone but even deleting all apps did not solve the problem (not even factory reset). I went further and flashed various custom roms (with different kernels) without any apps (not even Google Play services) but the log still showed the unknown wakeups. I suspect that maybe there is something from the outside of the phone which was causing this behavior (because it show up only when connecting to my home wifi LAN; with other wifi networks or using mobile-data everything was normal). And it turned out that my Android Box was causing this odd behavior (connected to the same wifi network) because as soon as I disconnected the Android Box from my Lan network, there was no more unknown wakeups (sending some packets to the phones which are in the same network and causing them not to go to sleep) My questions are: 1. What are these packets that the Android Box is sending? 2. Given the type of these packets, is there any tool that can scan the network and identify which device is sending them?

I have a PC whose name is "mypc". It's accessible on the local network. https://mypc.local correctly displays its website when browsed from Mac, iOS, and itself. However, using my Pixel 3 with Android 11, browsing to https://mypc.local says “This site can’t be reached”. ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED. Interestingly, if I remove the ".local" and try browsing just to https://mypc , the browser finds the host correctly. It says "Your connection is not private" and ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID (which just means my self-signed certificate isn't configured to expect "mypc" because it expects "mypc.local"). I've tried Brave Private, DuckDuckGo, and Chrome. **How can I fix my Android devices to correctly use the .local hostname?** P.S. I've seen the following questions, but those answers don't apply to my case since my network router *is* correctly mapping mypc.local to the specific IP of that PC. Additionally, even Android is aware of how to resolve "mypc" to the correct IP, so I'm curious how to get it to treat "mypc.local" the same way. * https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/220840/accessing-local-computer-using-hostname * https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/215856/how-to-ping-a-local-network-host-by-hostname P.P.S. I also just tried from an old Nexus 7 with Android 5.1.1. The results are basically the same as with Android 11. https://mypc.local/ does not work and says DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN. https://mypc finds the host correctly but says NET:ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID.
