So, for the time being I'm stuck plugging my phone into my PC and using USB tethering to connect to Wi-Fi. One of my games requires port forwarding for online play, and I'm having trouble getting it to connect. I've gone to my router settings and forwarded the appropriate ports from the phone's internal IP address, but still nothing. Here are the ports needed in case it helps: - DirectPlay7 47624 47624 TCP/UDP - DirectPlay8 6073 6073 UDP - DPlay7&8 2300 2400 TCP/UDP - Outlaws 5310 5310 TCP I've also been fiddling with Telnet and ADB, but to no effect. Any suggestions?

I'm using an old smartphone as router and, although its connection is working flawlessly on my PC, when I try to access some sites on Android phones, they find some issues to load. These sites either take at least 10 seconds to start loading, or they don't load at all. What's funny is that when they work, once they load I can navigate through that domain with no issues; only the first connection takes too long. About 40% of the sites work fine, but 60% present this issue. It's probably some sort of security measure that finds issues with that phone as router, but Windows is able to deal with it, while Android isn't. For instance, sites that work fine: - theguardian.com - wtatennis.com - eurogamer.net Sites that have the issue: - bbc.com - atptour.com - pcgamer.com When I use a proper router with a 3G modem, this problem doesn't happen. But I need this phone as router because its reception is much better. It's a tricky situation, but I tried to be as detailed as possible. I would like to know if there's some trick to bypass this issue. I tried a user agent switcher on my phone, but it didn't work.

Block access to Google Play Store app from Wi-Fi router
I was wondering how can I block the Play Store Android app from the router itself? My router has a function to block a web address or an IP address. So does anyone know what website/IP address should I block to make the Play Store app not able to connect?

Is Galaxy S3 always disclosing an WiFi SSID?

I read tons of articles about how is it bad do hide SSID because client devices can disclose the network parameters by constantly "pinging" it when not in range. Ok, here is the client the bad guy, not the access point. Ok. Then I take my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone, go to the WiFi network settings and do not see any checkbox of the kind "Connect even if SSID is hidden". But my network IS hidden and SGS3 IS connecting to it. Does it mean that SGS3 is always automatically ready to disclose WiFi parameters, no matter whether SSID is hidden or not? There is a small bit of hope left: May be the way how the network was added influences SGS3 WiFi client behaviour? Because this network is hidden, I had to add it manually. May be when a WiFi network is broadcasting its SSID and I only have to choose it from the list, the phone behaves then differently and doesn't constantly try to discover the network? So, using the link provided by Andrew T. I found out that Android prior to v9 is always sending probe requests to the not available saved networks, and this behavior was made changeable only in Android v9+.

We bought some days ago a new WLan Router (FRITZ!Box 7530). Everything went fine, only one single mobile doesn't connect properly. We reseted all settings of this phone to (Xiaomi MiA2), tried to connect - didn't work. We switched on and off the power of the mobile and the router several times. Chose "delete network" at the mobile and wrote the password again. No change. Furthermore, and that's really weird: If we build a WLAN bridge from another mobile, then _this_ WLAN connection works with the Xiaomi. Therefore, the WLAN ability of this phone is not broken. Seems to be only something wrong with the settings. How can we connect this mobile to our network? Addendum: When we try to connect it shows "connection saved" ("gespeichert" in German). But no connection is established. The mobile doesn't appears in the Connection list of the Router. What security method does the new Wi-Fi use (WPA2, WPA3, etc.) and to your knowledge is the phone compatible with that security method? I _think_ it's WPA2 What version of Android is the phone running (is it up-to-date on its security updates, etc.)? Android 10. No Updates available (2021)

I can connect to this router, but it can't connect to the Internet through this router. Unfortunately, it has the strongest signal. So, I have to select another router manually. How can I do that? I know how to connect to the Wi-Fi. My problem is that I have many routers which have the same SSID. But one of the routers which have the strongest signal does not work properly. So, I have to choose another router. For example, one of the SmartCampus does not work. Image

I have somewhat of an unusual problem that wasn't a problem a few months ago, I had an Xperia X with Android 8 on it, and I used it to provide Internet (4G) for my devices using a router. It worked like so: 1. Connect to the router's USB 2. Configure router 3. Enable USB Tethering from the phone 4. Internet This is the usual method, of course. The thing is, I have a NAS attached to the router as well, and I used to enable the WiFi on my phone (with USB Tethering on), and sync/connect with the NAS without losing Internet connection. I upgraded to a Pixel and then a Samsung running Android 11, 12, and now 13, and there seems to be a change in what WiFi is. It's now related to the "Internet" instead of being a networking means that can be used to get files from a local server offline. Now because of this change, whenever I connect to the WiFi network of the router, I lose Internet (on Samsung) or simply the WiFi wouldn't even connect unless I disable the data (Pixel). Is there a solution to restore the old behavior or at least workaround it?

Ports filtering in Android
How to configure port filtering in Android using `iptables`? As it is used by default for filtering in the Linux kernel before version 5.0, and after that `firewalld` is used. Apparently, you should use the Android network interface, i.e. the `netd` service.

I'm not seeking a simple mobile hotspot, instead I would like to know if there is an app (maybe something like VyOS or OpenWRT, although **I do know** this are proper OSs and not just apps) which allow me to traphic-shaping and maybe client isolation . I do not know if I could wipe the storage of my old phone and try something like OpenWRT (they have this apk in the PlayStore but has lots of negative comments) and how well this will work... But I'm open to any suggestions or if anyone can point me to a site where I can ask the questions related to install any router OS into a smartphone.

I'm having an issue with the WiFi connection on my Android phone (OnePlus 6, Android 11). For the past few days, **some apps started to work slowly**, I see spinners all the time, indicating that the contents of the apps cannot be loaded. **As soon as I switch to mobile data** (LTE) everything is OK. Also, other home devices (2 laptops and an iPhone have no internet issues). **What I tried:** - Changing the position of my router. No luck. - I used a WiFi Analyzer app to find more optimal channels to use and I manually set them on the router. At first, setting a channel helps (the slow apps start working well again), but after a while, the problem comes back and the apps become slow again. The router provides both 2 and 5GHz frequencies, applied automatically whenever possible. My internet speed is ~500Mbps. Is it my phone or is it my network? No clue. How can I troubleshoot this further?

I would like to be able to use my android phone as a backup internet connection if my home broadband goes down. The idea is that if the network went down I would set up a static route on my home router to point all internet-bound traffic at the phone, and all the other devices on my LAN would be able to carry on using the internet without reconfiguring each one. How can I get my android phone to perform IP forwarding/NAT from the wlan0 over the mobile data network? I don't want to put the phone into access point mode, but rather leave it connected to my home wifi network. The phone is rooted so it feels like this should be possible with iptables but I'm not having much luck.

**Background** I have a local network and I want to have my mobile serve as an internet gateway when entering the network. What I'm asking is asked here , here and here . An advanced version has also been asked here but all of them have no answers leading me to a conclusion this might not be possible. With this post, trying to list down what I tried, problems faced so as to open a discussion for a possible solution to this problem. Have tried this with relatively recent android 9, 10 and 11. **Some obvious steps** - Have static IP for the mobile which will serve as a gateway. - Setup router to use the gateway. **Problems** - Android connects to wifi and gives a warning that access point doesn't have internet access. We can switch to mobile data but the local network is inaccessible as wifi is disconnected. Changing to always use mobile data in developer options also behaves the same. - Let's suppose android is used as gateway and other devices are able to access internet, how will the device access local network? A probable solution is to make a middleware that decides to send packets to internet or intranet, or perhaps use internet as a fallback. I'm pretty sure mobile will need to be rooted for this kind of control. Is there anything developed which can be used directly?

I've had a strange scenario these days. **While on WiFi connection**, whenever I tried accessing certain apps from my android device, they would be **stuck on the loading screen forever**. Other apps were working fine, there were only few apps with this problem, that were not related (ex: **Skype and some food delivery apps**) Then, **after switching to mobile data, those apps were working fine**. Switching back to wifi, the apps were stuck again at loading. Then, I found out that **multiple devices connected to this WiFi network were encountering the same problem** with the same apps. Then, I knew the problem was with my network. **I restarted the router and then everything worked fine again.** My question is: **what could be the reason this happened?** The router was untouched for at least half an year, and this problem appeared only last few days. Could it be that those apps were asking for location and the WiFi couldn't provide it properly or something happened to the network by a malicious encounter?
