How to quickly switch between two apps on one half of the split-screen view?

I'm in this scenario a lot:
I'm using split screen opened to App1 taking the first half of the screen and App2 taking the second half of the screen. I frequently need to switch between App2 and App3 on the second half of the screen while keeping App1 on the first half. One way to switch between them is to tab the *recent apps button* then *drag* the app window to the second half of the screen. Unfortunately this process takes from 5 to 15 seconds each time I want to switch between App2 and App3, which is very exhaustive as I need to switch between them in a very frequent manner (About 3 to 10 times within 5 minutes).
How could I switch between App2 and App3 on the second half of the screen quickly just by some gesture and the apps get instantly switched without the need to drag or re-position the apps windows in order to re-fit the split screen each time?
A gesture example could be: swiping from the buttom edge of the screen to upwards on the second half of the screen (if screen is in horizontal mode).
**Important clarification:**
I'm asking about switching apps while being in multi-app split screen view. I'm not asking about single app view. One example of apps which works very well for the single app view is EAS App Switcher . What I need is that when I switch to another app it's opened in the second half of the splitted screen (not the full screen which destroys the split screen view).
Let me clarify more. I have App1 and App2 active (in split screen mode). EAS will do the job if it replaces App2's window with App3's while keeping App1's as is. What it does is that it opens App3 on full screen (single app view) destroying the split-screen view and App1 becomes in the background instead of keeping App1 active and next to it is App3 on the other screen half.
It would be very helpful if exist some app or launcher that achieves this.
I'm on Android 6.0.1 on Samsung Note 4 with root access.

I am running out of Ideas how to get MTP working _again_... I am simply not getting the dialog again on my android, asking me wether I want just charging, or MTP or Picture mode...
**Until most recently, it was easy: Use a USB cable, concect it to my Ubuntu 16.04 Laptop, get the mentioned choice/approval box...** and voilà the Tablet appeared as an MTP device in the Ubuntu ‚file explorer‘ (caja) nicely auto-mounted.
* got an Samsung Galaxy S2 tablet
* running Android 6.01
* it worked until recently in this configuration
I already followed some advice:
* I made the developer options visible (by tapping the about device info thrice)
* enabled USB debugging (which some sources say, is something to watch out for)
* dialed on the phone menu *#0808# → which shows I'am on
(o)AP
and on MTP + ADB mode
just like I should (this radio box btw only holds its state, if USB debugging is enabled)
also...
* tried different USB ports
* tried different cables
* tried with another device (MacBook. Thus I have no reason to believe, I messed something up on the host machine OS side... Ubuntu is very stable anyway)
* External Store (4kb) under Settings→Applications→“Show System Apps” is on
well, one last clue:
* Settings → Tethering has the USB switch grayed out „USB cable not connected“. Althoug it clearly is. And I can recharge my tablet through it (otherwise I would have certainly noted...)
Device is not rooted. No other glitches.
Are there maybe some log files (now that Dev mode is enabled) to check out what might got wrong?
Not looked/understood ADB yet. So I couldn't tell you, if that works. Anyway, no dialog to choose upon connecting.
I am out of ammo :-( **Thank you for any piece of advice...**

I have a Moto G 3rd generation, and updated it with latest Android version (24.11.25). After the Update the icons for some APP disappeared.
I think it were all the applications i had moved to my SD card.
The APP is not showing on my desktop neither on the menu that shows all applications, but its still installed, because i can open the APP from its page on play store and it is on the list of installed applications on the config page.
How can i restore the icons to these apps?

So my HTC One M8 battery has been dying recently at around 30%. I'm pretty sure it's hardware, as it happens even after flashing a RUU multiple times.
Well anyway, I just searched for showtimes for a movie theater near me and it shut off with no warning, as now is normal. I plugged it in, turned it on and... Nothing from the Android OS is vibrating, as in the lower on screen buttons don't give haptic feedback like before, but all third party apps do, like my SwiftKey. I also noticed that I can't swipe down from notifications to get to my quick setting, it's like it was never designed to go any further. Another thing that changed is that Now On Tap is also disabled. Holding on the home key does nothing.
Is it possible the sudden shutdowns finally corrupted something? Should I restore the backup in thankfully made last night, or is there a way to fix any of this?

I just acquired the new Huawei Honor 8 from China (international version), but I have a few issues with the contacts. When I synchronize the contacts from my Microsoft account, I only retrieve 16 contacts in my list (whereas I have 300+ contacts). I checked the parameters, they are not hidden, it just managed to synchronize only 16 contacts.
I decided to migrate my Microsoft account contacts to my Google account, so I can try to synchronize the Google contacts on my phone. Once I managed to do it on the Google website from my computer, I found a bad surprise in the contact app : there is no option to synchronize Google contacts. HiCloud, Outlook, Facebook messenger, Linkedin, Skype and WeChat are the only options here. Have I missed something ? Do I need an extra app to do this ?
I'm wondering if this issue could be related to the Chinese ROM shipped on my phone, would you recommend to install a new ROM ?
**Edit** : I have installed "Google sync contacts" by directly downloading the APK. Now i can see the Google account in the list of the synchronized accounts in the contact app. But, after having double checked that the synchronization is activated for this account and a reboot, still 0 contact from Google in the list.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (Verizon SM-N910V), Android 6.0.1.
After a sudden reboot, my phone is now displaying a new notification.
>
The weird header alignment and a few typos ['Samsungs'; 'MMC(Mobile Country Code)'] put me ill at ease, and Googling this service from Samsung doesn't turn anything up.
Also, after this reboot a few details are off:
- The lock screen background changed to one of the Android defaults (I had a plain black background)
- The font reverted to the default size (I had it set to small)
- The settings buttons (screen rotation, data, etc.) in the pulldown menu changed order
- The interface seems more responsive
What does this mean? I shut off the device and am going to talk to Verizon, but I'm hoping people here might have some ideas.
My phone occasionally reboots for no reason (every couple of weeks), but I am not sure this is related. I haven't seen these symptoms before and Googling didn't turn up anything quickly.

I'm using a static IP configuration for accessing college WiFi on my Windows laptop. For that, I'm using the following batch file (.bat) to configure the settings with one click. The file contains the following information:
netsh interface ip set address name="Wireless Network Connection" source=static addr=10.2.29.69 mask=255.255.0.0 gateway=10.2.19.27 gwmetric=1
netsh interface ip set DNS name="Wireless Network Connection" source=static addr=10.2.19.28 primary
netsh interface ip add DNS name="Wireless Network Connection" addr=4.2.2.2 index=2
The problem in configuring this in Android is that the above file contains two static addresses (10.2.29.69 and 10.2.19.28) whereas in Android, there is only one option to enter static IP address and there are two fields for DNS, but here in the file only one DNS is given.

So, which IP should I enter in the IP address field of my phone. And what about 2nd DNS address?

I used to have
Silet Time
on **Android 4.4** and it worked really well.
The application sets silent mode or vibration at scheduled time of the week.
I now have **Android 6** and that application does not work anymore; I also tried Silent Hours
and several others.
The Do not disturb
mode works but it doesn't allow setting vibration, only full silent mode which is good for sleeping, but not in other occasions (office hours, meetings, etc).
Is there a way to achieve this on **Android 6**?

If I swipe with the edge of a palm, it is very unreliable -- sometimes screen is pressed and I do some operations instead of screen shot.
Pressing
Home
+ Power
simultaneously doesn't work.
What else can be done?
**UPDATE**
I am trying to take screenshow of an application, which I am debugging. When I run debug, it requests to close device monitor, so the third way of taking screenshots via device monitor also doesn't work.
**UPDATE 2**
Disabling swipe didn't help. Now it is impossible to take screenshot from within device at all.

Why does this (new) Android 11 device consistently fail to receive Bluetooth file transfers, stopping mid-transfer between 1.1 and 3 MB (out of a 6.3 MB file)?
The transmitter is Windows 11 Bluetooth, which displays the error: "The connection was lost." However, an Android 6 device receives the same file successfully.
My primary suspicion is a difference between classic Bluetooth and BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy).
Has anyone experienced this issue and found a solution? Please share any helpful knowledge.

I'm using Android 6. I'm trying to copy a file from
/storage/emulated/0/test.txt
to /cache/SH_DIR/
via an Android user application, and I'm getting the following error:
java.io.FileNotFoundException: /cache/SH_DIR/test.txt: open failed: EACCES (Permission denied)
When I build the application as a system application (included as part of AOSP), I'm able to copy the file to /cache/SH_DIR/
.
Do I need to modify the SEpolicy to allow a user application to copy files to /cache/SH_DIR/
?
Any help would be appreciated.

$ ./adb kill-server && ./adb start-server && ./adb devices

What is occurring under the hood?

After lengthy efforts and research, my hunch is: it's likely an update bug, and SDK 33 or older would still work, like in this example: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/43131020/adb-cannot-connect-to-daemon-at-tcp5037
How can I obtain SDK 33 or older to get the corresponding platform-tools?
Please explain the actual working mechanism to solve this issue.

Whenever I try to connect my Samsung Galaxy S6 with Android 6.0.1 to a Bluetooth enabled device, it tells me to enable "location services".
When I complained about this, the software vendor replied: "Recent updates to the Google Android API affecting Bluetooth LE technology requires location permissions to be granted in order to use the app."
I fail to see the need for this.
This discussion talks about this. The technical reference says the apps need to have certain *permissions*, not that location services be active.
> To access the hardware identifiers of nearby external devices via

> ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION or ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION permissions
**Question**: Does this mean the software vendor's statement is incorrect?

I want to understand such a situation:
Timer in the standard watch application used to behave unstable. The situation was such that when I started the timer for the first time (after last turning on the phone), the timer sound wasn't not working at the end of time (only silent notification on the top). Another situation was that the sound was sounding for one second and then suddenly stopped. It was exactly the next time after the silent case. And after that the sound could work properly.
It seems to me that clearing the cache and application data helped to solve the problem. But why did this happen? I can well expect this to happen again in the future. The only option I changed was turning off the vibration in timer settings.
My phone is LG Spirit 4G LTE (LG-H440n), Android 6.0, timer sound: “Timer”
Phone wasn't in the silent mode.
All volume sliders were up.
No task killer.
… It happened again. In the same way.

I wanted to pair a bluetooth device (specifically, [Dynamo Harvester](http://be-on-bike.de/de/harvester/overview.html)) with my Moto G 2 (Android 6) with the normal workflow: Open bluetooth system settings, scan for devices, select *Dynamo Harvester*, enter the PIN and it is paired.
Now, after entering the wrong PIN (0000 instead of 000000) several times – where most of the time a message was displayed that the PIN was wrong –, I entered the correct PIN, and something strange happened. The *Incorrect PIN* message popped up for a brief moment, and afair the device moved to the list of paired devices.
Since the app still did not recognize the Dynamo Harvester, I turned bluetooth off and on again. Now the device has disappeared from the list of paired devices, but appears in the scan list. If I try to pair, I cannot enter a PIN anymore but receive a message *Can't communicate with Dynamo Harvester*.
I thought that perhaps the device is broken somehow, but connecting with a Samsung Android tablet worked just fine (with the correct PIN).
What can I do? Might this even be a bug in Android because of the strange message about the incorrect PIN, although it was correct?

I want to have a bookmark shortcut on my Home screen to launch a web app I use regularly. The only way I found to achieve this is using the **Add to Home screen** from the Chrome browser menu when I'm on the site. However, this does not let me edit the actual URL the bookmark will point to.
This is a problem because said web app automatically appends the current date to the end of the URL when it's loaded. When I add the shortcut to the Home screen, the link will then actually open the app to display data from the day on which I created the shortcut. I'll always have to open the date picker and navigate to the current date to start using the app.
I'd like to edit the Home screen bookmark shortcut's URL to remove the date added to its end, so it always opens to the current day. Can I achieve this without third-party software?
I'm using an unrooted Sony Xperia Z5 Compact running Android 6.0.1.
* Some sources say to create a standard bookmark in Chrome, where the URL can be edited, then long-press it in the bookmarks manager and choose to add it to the home screen from the context menu. This context menu entry does not appear to exist anymore in current versions of Chrome.
* Some sources say to look for a Bookmarks widget that allows to choose a Chrome bookmark to display. This widget doesn't appear to exist anymore in Android 6. The only bookmarks widget I have displays the entire bookmarks folder.
* The website in question loads too quickly for me to be able to cancel before the URL is modified. I tried many times.

I've been using my Nexus 5X for about a week now, but this morning was the first time I noticed the following notification:
Backstory: I snapped a few photos this morning (w/ default camera app). Looking at their meta data, they were taken at the exact time it shows in the notification. These are *not* the first photos I've taken with this phone. I don't remember the notification popping up immediately, but I did put away my phone right after taking those photos. Based on the timestamp, I may have simply missed it. I didn't notice the notification until after arriving at the office (roughly 1h 15m later).
Tapping on the notification shows the familiar ripple effect, but nothing happens. It's also persistent: I cannot dismiss it by swiping it.
The notification appears to display some sort of progress, but whatever it was processing, it no longer is. It's about 10am now, and it's still 'stuck' at the same place. The ellipsis seems to suggest that there could be text below the progress bar, but not sure what it would display.
So, does anyone know what this notification's purpose is? And what exactly got stuck while being processed? As a bonus, I'd like to know how to 'continue' whatever got stuck. If continuing isn't an option, then a way to dismiss it without rebooting the phone will also do. I've already tried killing the Camera app, with no result.
