I'm in this scenario a lot:
I'm using split screen opened to App1 taking the first half of the screen and App2 taking the second half of the screen. I frequently need to switch between App2 and App3 on the second half of the screen while keeping App1 on the first half. One way to switch between them is to tab the *recent apps button* then *drag* the app window to the second half of the screen. Unfortunately this process takes from 5 to 15 seconds each time I want to switch between App2 and App3, which is very exhaustive as I need to switch between them in a very frequent manner (About 3 to 10 times within 5 minutes).

How could I switch between App2 and App3 on the second half of the screen quickly just by some gesture and the apps get instantly switched without the need to drag or re-position the apps windows in order to re-fit the split screen each time?

A gesture example could be: swiping from the buttom edge of the screen to upwards on the second half of the screen (if screen is in horizontal mode).

**Important clarification:**
I'm asking about switching apps while being in multi-app split screen view. I'm not asking about single app view. One example of apps which works very well for the single app view is EAS App Switcher . What I need is that when I switch to another app it's opened in the second half of the splitted screen (not the full screen which destroys the split screen view).
Let me clarify more. I have App1 and App2 active (in split screen mode). EAS will do the job if it replaces App2's window with App3's while keeping App1's as is. What it does is that it opens App3 on full screen (single app view) destroying the split-screen view and App1 becomes in the background instead of keeping App1 active and next to it is App3 on the other screen half.

It would be very helpful if exist some app or launcher that achieves this.

I'm on Android 6.0.1 on Samsung Note 4 with root access.

Installed crDroid-based Android 15 and noticed single tap on recents button (on a 3-button navbar) has ~0.4 second delay before it opens the recent apps view. Note the delay is gone if double-tap action on the button is removed, which for me switches to last/previous app. But I've always had this functionality on double-tap. There was no noticeable delay on Android 14 or earlier. Also gave [custom launcher](https://github.com/LawnchairLauncher/lawnchair/releases) a go, but that has the same delay, so it appears to be an OS-level issue. Is this something introduced by Android 15, or is it likely related to specific ROM I'm using? Is it possible to remove this delay?

I am removing some bloatware apps in my Vivo Y20i because it is getting slow and lagging too much, storage space is not an issue but the RAM consumption of default apps that I can't uninstall is too high. So I resulted in looking up a method to uninstall that bloatware, and I found a method using Shizuku and aShell. I have success in removing most apps but I accidentally included the System Launcher to uninstall (I'm using Nova Launcher as default btw). Now I'm having an issue with my navigation controls where the recent app button/gesture is not working anymore, the home and back button works fine. I tried installing some navigation controls from the Play Store and also used the gesture functions of Nova Launcher but still, it doesn't help. Hoping someone can help me, thank you in advance.

Background: ----------- I wanted to customize my phone a little bit, a Samsung Galaxy A70 (SM-A705FN), and that process included de-bloating it. I opened xda-developers, looked around, and finally found a list of bloatware to remove . I threw in a few other packages that I checked, such as Samsung Radio, Google Duo, Netflix, and a few other things that I am 100% certain didn't have anything to do with my issue. I then opened an ADB Connection and through the shell I uninstalled the packages, one by one, using this command: pm uninstall --user 0 com.facebook.katana Obviously I swapped around the package names for each package. I tried to remove everything, somethings weren't removed, overall everything's great! The issue: ---------- Just now, several hours later, I noticed that my "Recents" button in the navigation bar is not doing anything. The effect is there, so I believe it registers the press, but I think I removed whatever handles that request. From what I gathered, it should be easy enough to re-install the package once I find what its called, but I've been looking for a while, and my only other option right now (except for factory resetting and just, like, living with it) is to manually check each permission in that list, which is going to be tedious. Bottom line: ------------ Does anyone know what package is responsible for handling the "Recents" button request? or of a better / easier way to solve this issue?

The recent apps list in Ice Cream Sandwich added the ability to swipe apps out of the list, thereby dismissing them permanently (and as far as I know this is a vanilla function, not a CM/custom ROM one). The documentation and platform highlights don't appear to cover the under-the-hood workings of this functionality, but I'm curious to know what the system is actually doing. Further adding to my curiosity, I decided to do a quick test: I started up Music on a CM9 install, then backed out of it. I then checked the recent apps list and saw it was indeed there (and in the proper state, based on the thumbnail). I then went into Settings->Applications and force stopped the Music app, but it was still listed in the recent list, leading me to believe it's not connected to processes lingering in the background. Realizing now that Music may have been a poor choice, I also tested with the USA Today app. This exhibited basically the same behavior, and it seemed like it was forced to "relaunch" after the force stop (which makes sense) though the thumbnail in the recent apps list didn't reflect this (cached, I'm guessing?). So, what actually happens at the OS level when you swipe an app out of the recent list? Does it simply clear the app's data out of RAM and garbage collect it, destroying its saved state?

Why "Messages" app is never seen in the app list?

This has been puzzling me for years. Why it is impossible to switch back to [_Messages_ app](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.messaging) from any other app using app list? Two scenarios: 1. _Messages_ is **an active one**. I press the three dash app list button and I **can see it** in the list. I can _switch from that app_ to some other one. 2. I did what in above, _Messages_ app is now **in the background**. When I press the app list button, **it is not listed there**. I cannot _switch to that app_ from any other. I don't know like others, but for me this is very iritatting. Whenever I need to do something in another app (i.e. copy some contact details that I want to post via SMS), when I want to get back to _Messages_, I always must: * press _Home_ * find _Messages_ app's icon: * switch left/right to find the screen where I have _Messages_ app icon or * open app drawer and swipe left/right to find the correct app pane * tap that icon to "re-launch" _Messages_ app. What is so special in this app that it does not or cannot appear in the regular app list? I think I can name only this single app that has such a weird behaviour. I thought that the answer [is in here](https://android.stackexchange.com/q/1136/20449) that it simply behaves as Gmail. But that 2011's answer is no longer valid, because _Gmail_ does appear in the app list, while _Messages_ are not. ---- **EDIT**: I am using [realme GT 5G](https://www.gsmchoice.com/en/catalogue/realme/gt5g/) with Android 12 **13** and realme UI 3.0. But, as far as I recall, I have been observing this behaviour on **each and every phone** that I have been using since introduction of _Messages by Google_ app in 2014. Including: all my Motorola Motos (E3, E4, G4, Z2), Motorola One, TP-Link Neffos X9 and Xiaomi Redmi 6. The _Messages by Google_ app is seen (among others) in the app list **only** if you press app list button while having it in foreground. Switching to _any other_ app and pressing app list button again shows all apps in the background _except_ this one. All my phones were never rooted nor has any custom ROM installed. All of them has been used as they came from the shop, from the beginning till end.

I have never wanted to clear the apps from the recent apps list but this has happened to me numerous times. At first, I thought it was a bug that happened randomly. Then I found that just above the menu button on the screen is another button that clears all the apps. I have accidentally hit this when trying to switch between apps many times because the two buttons are so close to each other. It just happened again when my cat rubbed on my hand and the phone as I was using it, and managed to press menu/clear recent apps with his face. I would accept instructions on any of the following as an answer: * Remove the Clear Recent Apps button * Move the Clear Recent Apps button somewhere harder to press * Add a "confirm" dialogue to Clear Recent Apps * Block the action within the OS I'm currently using Android 5.0 and my phone isn't rooted. Recent Apps List The button is the one on the semi-transparent overlay at the bottom with a "menu" icon with a superimposed cross.

I have noticed something peculiar regarding the "Close all" option, that appear when you press the three vertical lines (recent apps list) in the lower left corner: Often, all visible apps slide upwards, and everything close as it should. But sometimes all apps slide sideways off the screen, always to the left, and disappear. However, none of them are closed down, and reappear when pressing the three lines again. I've noticed some odd behavior on the recent apps screen on Android that I can't find an explanation for anywhere. When I open apps on a phone while in landscape view and switch to the recent apps screen all I see is a white square for that app, no preview thumbnail. This is how it looks on a OnePlus 6 when I open Chrome in portrait mode and open the recent apps screen, and when I open Chrome while in landscape and then go to the recent apps screen Image Image And similar behavior on a Pixel 3: Opening Chrome in portrait and in landscape, then switching to recent apps Image Image If I give the Pixel 3 some time it will eventually generate a thumbnail for the landscape app though about half the time it looks squished and the other half it isn't up to date with what was actually being shown on the screen. Image My question is why does Android seem to struggle with generating landscape preview thumbnails for the recent apps screen? Has anyone else experienced this behavior or know of a fix for it?

With Android 7 (aka [tag:nougat]), behavious of the recent apps list changed: instead of being "kept forever (until swiped out)", apps now get removed by whatever criteria (from my research it now "only shows the 5 last used tasks, and tasks used in the last 6 hours"), which is quite annoying. I found this question asked multiple times e.g. at Reddit or XDA, but no answer. With Android-7 and Xposed, one could use the [Recents auto-removal override](https://repo.xposed.info/module/andse.recentsoverride) module, but that stopped working around Android-10. So with Android-10 and up (I'm on 11 now), how can I keep Android from "expiring" apps from the recent-apps-list? Is there some "hidden setting" or other way to modify this behavior? Any solutions (including those requiring root, Magisk, Xposed) are welcome.
