I want a single back gesture in an app to cause the app to receive a back button event, no matter what state said app is in (full-screen or otherwise). Same for home or app switcher events. The notification bar can remain in the double-pull mode though, I think I'd prefer that actually.
I'm open for any sort of hack to make this happen as long as it's open source and applicable to AOSP Android and/or LineageOS. It wouldn't be the first time I had to patch android_frameworks_base to my will but I'd rather do this in a less invasive manner (i.e. a Magisk module).

I've had to replace the screen and touch assembly on a device I have but now the new hardware is too noisy: most of my taps end up being recognized as swipes or flings, making for a very frustrating experience.
What can be done to fix this? An ideal solution would be to fine-tune the gesture detection logic to be less restrictive on what is considered a tap, interpreting fast short-distance flings as taps instead.
Any solution that involves root, xposed or recompiling the OS with suggested tweaks is welcome. The device in question runs LineageOS 15.1, based on Oreo.

I have an aging parent who I want to acquaint with using an Android smartphone. Gestures are a bit of a problem for him, and I want to acquaint him with swipe-down, swipe right, long-press, single tap, double tap, pinch zoom. Preferably but not necessarily in the context of actual Android phone use - bringing down settings, moving a shortcut around on the desktop, moving a shortcut to another page on the desktop, etc.
Is there a way to achieve this? In the context of actual use (i.e. practice on a 'practice desktop' where nothing he does is permanent. Or something simpler just for practice would do. I'd just give him a smartphone to practice on, but he lives a long distance away and it's difficult to tell if and when he screws a gesture up and does something inadvertently or changes some setting that leads to headaches.

I am removing some bloatware apps in my Vivo Y20i because it is getting slow and lagging too much, storage space is not an issue but the RAM consumption of default apps that I can't uninstall is too high. So I resulted in looking up a method to uninstall that bloatware, and I found a method using Shizuku and aShell. I have success in removing most apps but I accidentally included the System Launcher to uninstall (I'm using Nova Launcher as default btw). Now I'm having an issue with my navigation controls where the recent app button/gesture is not working anymore, the home and back button works fine.
I tried installing some navigation controls from the Play Store and also used the gesture functions of Nova Launcher but still, it doesn't help.
Hoping someone can help me, thank you in advance.

Android doesn't seem to support external touchpad (usb or wireless) pinch gesture for zooming in and out?
I tried a few external wireless keyboards with touchpads built-in, while the touchpad works for pinch on Mac and Windows, it didn't work for pinch-zooming on Android.
So my guess it's not possible. I use my Android TV box (BuzzTV box, Android 9) as an Android desktop for apps e.g. PDF reader.
Also tried using normal mouse, scroll wheel and ALT or CTRL or whatever combination it is typically..
I understand Android 14 has support for external keyboards but I don't see mentioned whether it also provides pinch zoom gestures for external touchpads. Not planning to upgrade the TV box yet.
To solve the external keyboard compatibility, there is an app called External Keyboard Helper for Android. That solves the keyboard issue.
But I can't find anything similar that would allow me to use pinch/zoom on external touchpad.
Some apps have support for keyboard shortcuts (Alt+leftButton+arrowRight/arrowLeft works for me), but most apps do not support this.
The issue is not related to this specific tv box. I tried other brands TV boxes and it is the same problem.
Is it a universal Android limitation?
UPDATE: Here I found some answer.. But I am still looking for a way to pinch zoom a PDF. So I guess my question needs to be - is there any app for PDF that supports pinch and zoom natively on non-touchscreen pointing interfaces?

Is there anything else I can do? Is there a way to contact Google support? I've tried looking online to no avail.
Things I've already tried and that have not worked:
- Force booting phone
- Turning off bluetooth
- Turning off screensaver
- Clear cache and storage for Android Auto
- Turning on/off notification for Car Mode in the Android System app.

I recently switched my Galaxy S23 from on-screen buttons to gesture navigation. I noticed that using the stock launcher I can open the multitasking screen very quickly when swiping upwards and holding (it takes about 0.5 seconds). When I set Nova Launcher as my default launcher and open its home screen, opening the multitasking window takes about twice as long, almost a whole second. When opening the stock launcher again it works fast like before.
This is very annoying as it heavliy hinders my workflow. I tried adjusting Nova's gesture settings but was unable to resolve the issue. How can I fix this?

I would like to know whether on Android devices it is possible to input a combined touch plus swipe gesture.
For instance, I could touch with one or more fingers with the left hand, and simultaneously swipe left to right or right to left with the right hand.
As an application, with TakBack, this could be used, with one finger plus swipe left to right or right to left, to skip forward or backward one word while text is being read, with two fingers plus swipe left to right or right to left, to skip forward or backward one sentence while text is being read, and three fingers plus swipe to toggle pausing while text is being read.
I think, this could be significantly useful in improving usability of TalkBack for blind users.
When will this be available in Android?
Thanks.

I am trying to edit the value of a Secure Settings key over ADB with the command:
settings put secure camera_double_twist_to_flip_enabled 1
For some unknown reason, the value of this key is 0
and cannot be changed. Because of this, the shake gesture in the Google Camera app does not work.
I've tried a number of fixes, all with no success:
- settings put --user 0 secure camera_double_twist_to_flip_enabled 1
: Fails to set value.
- settings put --user 10 secure camera_double_twist_to_flip_enabled 1
: Successfully sets value for the Work Profile (aka user 10), but doesn't affect the Personal Profile (user 0) where Gcam is installed). There are no other profiles set up.
- settings put secure camera_double_twist_to_flip_enabled default
: Value remains at 0
.
- **Settings > System > Languages & input > Advanced > Flip camera** : No such toggle exists in the Settings app.
- **Settings > System > Gestures > Flip camera for selfie** : No such toggle exists in the Settings app.
- Boot into **Safe Mode**, then settings put secure camera_double_twist_to_flip_enabled 1
: Successfully sets value, but only temporarily. When phone is rebooted into Regular Mode, the key value is RESET TO 0
.
The device is an unrooted Google Pixel 7 running GrapheneOS 13 (a ROM very similar to stock AOSP).
This issue is being discussed on the [GrapheneOS development forum](https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/3214-twist-to-flip-frontback-camera-feature-missing) , where a different user running GrapheneOS 13 on a Google Pixel 6 did *not* encounter the same issue and was able to set the key value via ADB as expected.

- double triangle -> bring down the panel with notification,
- double circle -> lock screen
- double square -> I had it set to something I rarely used and so I don't remember, but it was settable
- hold triangle -> some thing swiping right on the first page of the home
- hold circle -> google assistant
- hold square -> split screen
All these things but the last 2 have disappeared with last update. I think before this update I was Android 11.
How can I enable those things again? I haven't found anything in the settings.

I've just switched phones from iPhone to a Pixel 3a and one of the things I'm missing right now is double double tap to zoom in Chrome. I haven't found anything suggesting the feature doesn't exist on Android. I've found a few questions asking how to disable it but I don't see those options myself so I can't just enable it.
When I double click a block of text instead of zooming to fit the screen it just selects the word I tapped. Instead I have to tweak the zoom level with pinch-to-zoom until it is sized properly.
Am I missing some setting to enable this? Is there another way to zoom to fit? Are there any alternatives to pinch-to-zoom?

Furthermore, while scrolling I can't hit buttons, it is interpreted as further scrolling. But the delay for the end of the scrolling is very long.
Do you have any idea how to get some normal touchscreen/swipe behavior on this smartphone without rooting it?

I have seen AutoInput, but it appears it's not free.

When my Android 11 phone is locked and dark, the Home Screen shows with some gesture. Or e.g. when putting the phone in my pants pocket, which I find annoying.
My previous phone has Android 8, which is too old to receive security upgrades, so I replaced it by a Motorola G20 phone with Android 11.
The old phone was nicely locked until you pressed the hardware power button on the side. This made it very hard to accidentally turn it back on.
The new phone turns on by the slightest handling, even without pressing any button. After a lot of experimentation I am still not sure which exact swipe or gesture turns it on
The phone has, apart from the large volume up/down button, two small buttons. The top one was assigned to Google Assistent, which I was able to disable. Now the top button brings up the home screen, the notifications, and the dots for swiping the unlock pattern.
The other small button brings up the home screen and the notifications. To get to the dots, I need to swipe up.
When the phone is locked, swiping several times diagonally brings up the home screen with notifications without dots. If the clock were an analogous clock, the swipes are roughly from 2 o'clock to 7 o'clock. I mostly need to do several swipes, sometimes 2, sometimes 4. I tried with multiple fingers, but it sometimes work with one finger, so I guess that multiple fingers is not a factor here. Anyway, I cannot conclude how many swipes are really needed. The minimum seems 3, but it can be that one swipe is enough, but that the other 2 were wrong swipes.
The fingerprint sensor feature is not set up.
My problem is e.g. that I do not know the correct android jargon which makes it hard to google this problem. This seems not to be: "anti-falsing" or "swipe unlock".
Of course, this is a new Android "feature" and should be regarded as a huge improvement of the user experience. In fact, I was stunned by the number of new features that you can turn on or off in the Settings menus. However, I like the old school principle of having explicit control, and a phone that is "off" until I explicitly press the "on" button, and not accidentally when I just grab the phone to just move it to another place on the table, or put it in or out of my pocket.
So how is this new feature called, and how to turn this off?
