Android doesn't seem to support external touchpad (usb or wireless) pinch gesture for zooming in and out?
I tried a few external wireless keyboards with touchpads built-in, while the touchpad works for pinch on Mac and Windows, it didn't work for pinch-zooming on Android.
So my guess it's not possible. I use my Android TV box (BuzzTV box, Android 9) as an Android desktop for apps e.g. PDF reader.
Also tried using normal mouse, scroll wheel and ALT or CTRL or whatever combination it is typically..
I understand Android 14 has support for external keyboards but I don't see mentioned whether it also provides pinch zoom gestures for external touchpads. Not planning to upgrade the TV box yet.
To solve the external keyboard compatibility, there is an app called External Keyboard Helper for Android. That solves the keyboard issue.
But I can't find anything similar that would allow me to use pinch/zoom on external touchpad.
Some apps have support for keyboard shortcuts (Alt+leftButton+arrowRight/arrowLeft works for me), but most apps do not support this.
The issue is not related to this specific tv box. I tried other brands TV boxes and it is the same problem.
Is it a universal Android limitation?
UPDATE: Here I found some answer.. But I am still looking for a way to pinch zoom a PDF. So I guess my question needs to be - is there any app for PDF that supports pinch and zoom natively on non-touchscreen pointing interfaces?

This is especially necessary on a tablet. Although it's technically a mobile device, my tablet screen is as big as a laptop's, and zooming is completely unnecessary.

What internet browsers are able to provide text wrapping (fitting the screen) when zooming (beside Opera)?

Taking a Wikipedia page:
Simply **zooming** it - whether with forced zoom enabled or not - would give this (like in Chrome), where the font size appears larger but the text body is not seen in its entirety, as it **doesn't fit the screen**:
while what I would like to see would be this - what I call text fit or text wrap, where **the font is enlarged without losing the entirety of the text body**, which in this case **fits the screen**:
---
I know this is available in Opera. I would like to know what other browsers have this feature.

I've already got the browser set up to display (very) large fonts: I'd gone to "settings", "Accessibility", and have cranked the "Text scaling" slider over to 155%, which is ginormous. (There's also a check in the box that says "Force Enable Zoom", which I don't recall setting; I guess that's the default).
Anyway: this feature works fine on most sites, just not Wikipedia (and perhaps a few others). Any advice for making Wikipedia readable?

Annoying "unzoom" when browsing text
The following happens in various applications such as more than one type of web browser and Adobe's PDF reader. I'm scrolling through text at a comfortable zoom level, and then suddenly, I touch the screen the wrong way, and it zooms way out. How can we prevent this UI behavior?

Only thing is, I can't get it to zoom in or out - there is no touch (so multitouch doesn't work) and there are no +/- buttons as there are on some stock browsers.
The stock browser doesn't work on the site in questions, and Firefox won't load onto the device (it has a MIPS processor, so any app using the native SDK won't work). Any ideas?

I've had a long-standing problem on my Android phone with *IBM Community forum websites*.
Forum postings like this one are zoomed in too far. I can't read the text on either side of the page (portrait or landscape).
I have the same problem in all browsers that I've tried. I've tried pinching out the screen to zoom out, but that doesn't do anything. It stays at the same zoom level.

-
My uneducated guess would be that the page isn't handling responsive design properly. I've reported the problem to IBM. But they don't seem to be interested in fixing it.
I don't have this problem with any other websites on my Android phone. For example, there are even other IBM forums that don't have this problem . But unfortunately, I don't use those specific forums.
---------------
I've had some luck solving the issue on a different device: Safari/iPad (7th gen; 17.7.1).
In Safari, there is an option where I can zoom out at a set percentage (85%).
There's a tiny bit of cutoff at the righthand side. But I can live with that.
--------------------
**Question:**
To compensate for the problem with the IBM website on my phone, is there a way for me to change the zoom level in an Android browser app? (just like I did with Safari?)
So far, I haven't found a setting like that in Samsung Internet, Firefox, or Chrome. I'm open to installing a different browser on my phone if needed.

I'm using a Pixel 3 XL and am on AT&T (although most of the calls happen over Wi-Fi so I don't see how that matters).

I have a Huawei P30 Pro and this Bluetooth camera shutter. The shutter had dedicated buttons for zooming.
Sadly, the volume buttons on the P30 just act as a shutter (the zooming buttons on the shutter just send the volume buttons signals too) and there is no customization option in the built-in mobile app to set them for zooming).
I found [Adobe Lightroom ](https://play.google.com/store/search?q=lightroom&c=apps&hl=en_US) that lets you use the volume buttons for zooming, but it does not utilise the optical zooming of the phone and the shutter button will stop working (it will be similar to the zooming-out button)
Is there any workaround? Alternatively, any apps that can be installed to take photos instead of the factory app?

This need has come up in ZOOM sessions using the zoom app because that app uses the "phone audio" rather than "media audio"
As a result, it is impossible to include meeting audio if you ChromeCast the session. The video works, but the audio only outputs using the phone's speaker or audio jack. Testing using an android tablet rather than an android phone shows that since the tablet does not have a cellular radio, the meeting audio is cast with the video.
Airplane mode is not an option since that would prevent connecting to the internet.
In addition, trying to address the audio using a bluetooth speaker doesn't work either... while it's possible to initially send bluetooth audio to the speaker, something unknown turns that off after a few minutes.
Any thoughts on addressing this would be appreciated.

There is the triple TAP but it zooms the whole screen and I do not want that.

The problem is, I have no way to zoom in or out in the browser. There's no way for me to do a "pinch" gesture, and Ctrl +/- etc. don't seem to work in any browser, like Chrome, FireFox, and Dolphin.
I'm using the box as a display screen in a public area and not being able to scale the content to fit the whole TV is a serious limitation.
EDIT: Double tap only offers 2 zoom levels "close" and "far".

In at least one app (Vignette [see below]) "zoom" shrinks the picture down. The latter behavior -- along with surely-lacking mechanical lens focus mechanism -- suggests that all of these zooms are purely digital, and not optical.

In almost all Android devices, zoom is digital -- there just isn't a mechanism for changing the length of the barrel and gathering more info.
So how is **focus** achieved?
If you're not physically changing the lens properties, or extending the barrel length, you've only got dilation of the aperture as the last focus method. Which is mechanical. Unless you've got a fixed focus system -- which most android phones do not seem to have.
The android-spec for the autoFocus() method isn't much help - although it says it must be supported by the hardware, although most phones seem to have it.
So if it is hardware -- how? I'm not hearing any little motors whirring around in there.... And is there really even any room for a mechanism in these things?
