On the Samsung Galaxy A15 phone, Android 14, if I play audio from my radio station’s archive website on the Chrome or Samsung browser, then try to mirror to a Chromecast audio (CCA) puck or to a Xiaomi MiBox 4, the audio does not get redirected. I’ve tried with both the the Google Home app and the quick settings panel “Media output” option. If I try to cast from an app like hoopla digital or VLC it works fine with both redirect methods. But, on my Android 10 tablet, I can cast fine via google Home or the Connection preferences menu option. On Android 14, with google Home, the video will mirror to the MiBox but the audio will come from the phone’s speaker. If I instead use “Media output” option, the panel will show “No media playing” even though it is playing through the speaker; I get this same message if I try to mirror to the CCA puck. In the Chrome menu on the phone, there is no “Cast” option like there is on the PC.

I wanted to know if is possible to project (using Chromecast, or a similar technology), a Google Play book onto an Android television screen. You could then have pinch to zoom or drag on the Android device to have everything displayed onto television. The same goes for web pages, which could readjust to size on the television screen. With current screen mirroring technology the screen size is just mirrored and a subset of the entire television screen is displayed, but I can't have the area enlarged and zoomed. Also, I am not sure whether television screen resolution would be adequate, but theoretically,I think, it would. I would like to be able to read a Google Play book on the television and control panning and zooming from my phone. Thanks.

My purpose is to route/convert the call voice audio from a Android phone to TV speaker via chromecast in screen mirror mode. Becasue chromecast can only output the media sound/audio from default audio source (like music or youtube...) to TV speaker in screen mirror mode but for call voice audio/sound, it outputs via phone speaker. Therefore, I am looking the way (by apps, Magisk module, editing system file...) to route/convert call voice audio (voice_downlink) to default audio which can be outputted from TV speaker via chromecast. P/S: I have been trying create an app which records call voice audio (MediaRecoder API) and streaming data to chromecast via nanohttp server but the latency is huge for a call (5 to 10 seconds). Please let me know if you have any idea. Thanks

In Google Home, there is this feature called "speaker groups" which allows you to play the same music simultaneously on several speakers, in several rooms in the home, etc. I use this to play music in my entire home. However, there are still some rooms to which I would like to add speakers. AFAIK, only Google Home speakers and Chromecast devices can be added to speaker groups at the moment. I could go out and buy even more Google Home devices, but I have some spare Android devices and good speakers to hook them up to, so I figure that would be cheaper, better (in terms of sound), and environmentally friendlier. **So basically, to be clear:** I want to have an Android phone hooked up to a speaker behave pretty much like a Google Home, and play audio in a room. I want to be able to add it to my speaker group for the entire apartment, so that it can play music along with my real Google Home/Nest/Chromecast devices, in sync with them. It seems that there previously was an app that made an Android device emulate a Chromecast. That app was called CheapCast, but it now seems to have been taken down. I also found an app that did let me receive Chromecast on my Android, but it did not show up in the Google Home app so that it could be added to a speaker group. Is there any way to achieve this? I can use root, Xposed Framework, Magisk modules, custom ROMs, or whatever is needed. The Android devices I have lying around are running Android 9.

The official app doesn't feature a cast button, so I'm trying VLC. Yet, on both Chromecast and my Android phone, the stream plays for a couple of milliseconds (I see a bunch of frames and hear the sound, so it's actually playing the stream), only to exit immediately. How can I force VLC on Chromecast to play the stream?

enter image description here I find the Home app the simplest and hassle-free way to mirror phone screen to a videoprojector or tv running Android tv, and the screen-mirroring the simplest way when casting video from a phone (given the limitations of casting directly from a video player, namely subtitles etc). But I use this very often, devices are all connected to the same wifi, I expect it to start with one click, and avoid all the confirmation steps I see each time. After opening the app (1st click), selecting "Devices" (2nd click) and then my device (3rd click), another 3 more clicks are needed: enter image description here enter image description here enter image description here 6 in total! Can that be changed? --- As you may have suspected, my Samsung lacks the quick settings (drawer) button for casting.

Recently, I have seen TVs announced as official Android TV (Android 11) with Chromecast built-in. But these TVs are hardly usable without setting up a Google account. However, I am aware of TVs with Android 9 completely usable by adding a Google account, that includes a media player/web browser, access to external storage, and even a specific store for apps. I can't find a comparative but at least I found some differences and big limitations: - The lack of a preinstalled web browser - A limited and restricted Play, no Chrome or Firefox - Not possible to install APKs from external storage - Some apps installed from APKs are not recognized by the default launcher (requires a sideload launcher) Is there information about all the limitations introduced by Google? Is it possible to move to standard Android/Play? Would future updates of Android TV remove potential installed APKs?

I recently bought a Waveshare display to connect my Raspberry Pi (RPI) to it for showing Home Assistant info. The display also has a second HDMI port which I would like to use to connect my Chromecast Google TV. However, the default resolution (EDID data) is 1080x1920, so by default a portrait mode display. In my RPI, I can rotate the screen to 1920x1080. But I'm still looking for a solution for rotating also the Chromecast GGTV. I already tried to install a "screenrotation" app, but nothing happened. I also tried to connect to the screen through adb and run some commands, but not the result I was hoping for (I got a message that the Chromecast did not support that resolution). Today I found on the internet an EDID emulator. Could this be a solution? These are the EDID timing parameters of the display:
Pixel Clock H Addressable H Blanking V Addressable V Blanking H Front Porch H Sync Width V Front Porch V Sync Width H Image Size V Image Size H Border V Border
141.12 1080 120 1920 40 40 20 2 5 1080 1920 0 0
Any idea how to solve my problem (if there is a solution)? Link to my display settings: https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/21.5inch_FHD_Monitor

LineageOS 20, which is based on Android 13, has settings for some screen cast technology, even without having GApps installed. They settings can be found at **Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > Cast**. The UI simply refers to it as Cast, without giving any details on the technology involved or how to set it up. As per my research, there are two technologies that Android has supported over the years: * Miracast, an open standard, introduced with Android 4.2–4.4 and gradually phased out starting with Android 6, ending with Android 9, * Google Cast, a proprietary protocol, which requires GApps on the device. The UI simply tells me no nearby devices were found. I don’t see any controls to search for supported devices (in fact I don’t have any, because I don’t even know which technology they would need to support). Does LineageOS 20 without GApps come with a complete stack for any screen cast technology? If so, which? If not, can this functionality be added? What would I need to install? If so, is there a way to achieve this without installing any proprietary add-ons?

Trying to get as much control as it's possible from the TV's *(LG LF630V)* remote for the connected **Chromecast with Google TV.** The HDMI-CEC definitely works on Chromecast, as e.g., **→ ← ↓ ↑ [OK] [Back]** buttons are received from the TV remote. The problem is that I need even more (e.g. *[Home]* button is not implemented), so I've tried to intercept HDMI-CEC commands from **Logcat entry,** using *Tasker.* But absolutely no **[HdmiCecControl]** entries do appear in *Logcat,* unless (rare) CEC errors. What I'm doing wrong? Should I explicitly enable HDMI-CEC entries in Logcat? If so, how sould I enable it? Or there is a missing permission here? Any help would be welcomed.

How to control volume for Chromecast with Google TV from your phone AND have 5.1 surround support

I have just bought a new Chromecast with Google TV and hooked it up to my A/V-Receiver+Beamer setup, but I will refer to it as "TV" further on as it doesn't make a difference here. According to [Android Police - How to control Chromecast with Google TV volume using your phone](https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/11/13/how-to-control-chromecast-with-google-tv-volume-using-your-phone/) , there are three options: 1) TV volume is controlled via HDMI CEC using the Chromecast remote 2) TV volume is controlled via Infrared using the Chromecast remote 3) Chromecast volume is controlled via the Chromecast remote I can't combine those options. Options 1) and 2) mean I can't use my phone or Google Assistant to change the volume of what I'm playing. Option 3) means I will lose support for 5.1 surround sound, so this is an option I do not want to use in my home cinema setup. So apparently, I'm out of luck end of the story. BUT: In the Google Home app, I can open my Chromecast and open a remote on my phone and it has volume buttons, with which I could control the volume of my TV (as if I would have pressed the buttons on my Chromecast remote), if I chose option 1) above. So this is proof that it is indeed possible to control the volume directly from my phone AND have support for 5.1 sound. It's just hidden underneath a lot of clicking around. I'm not new to programming at all, I have worked as a Java developer in the past for almost a decade), but I'm completely new to Android development. I want to figure out how feasible it is to write an app which essentially does the following: The app is in the background, no user interface is visible. It hijacks the physical volume controls of the phone (this is doable at least when you're within an app (aCalendar does this and allows you to scroll with those buttons). It determines whether media is currently streamed to a Google Cast device (which seems to be doable as well), determines whether that device being cast to supports volume control (or determines whether the device is a Chromecast with Google TV, and ends up with the same result) and if yes, it sends a volume up/down event to that Chromecast. If not, the app just forwards the event to Android and it behaves as normal (e.g. by changing the phone's internal volume, changing the in-call volume, etc.). More specific questions: 1. Is it possible to intercept volume-button presses in an app which runs in the background (please excuse me if I'm not using correct Android terminology heere)? 2. Is it possible to forward intercepted volume button presses to the OS, so that the default behavior of those buttons doesn't break? 3. Is it possible to determine whether media is being streamed to a cast device? 4. Is it possible to determine whether that device is supporting volume controlling or alternatively determine what model of Chromecast it is? 5. Is it possible to send volume events or remote-key presses to that device, like the Google Home app does? I know, the question is rather long, but the topic is quite complex on the other hand.

It seems I can't connect to either Chromecast video nor audio devices. The devices I can cast to at home do appear on my list of possible casting destinations, but then the content won't display. The attempt to connect from my phone seems to fail every time! Other people at home are able to cast fine. I have already also tried wiping the cache and data storage on the Google Home, Android System Webview, Chrome, and YouTube apps. No improvement!
