I have my music collection on an SD card on my phone. All my music is very well organized, I'm almost OCD about it. All my music is properly named: AlbumArtist/Album/track# - title.mp3
All my files are mp3s, all of them are using only ID3v2.4.0 with no ID3v1 (some people use both [itunes?] ID3v2.x and ID3v1, not me). Every single tag field is using UTF8 encoding. All my music has an Artist and an Album Artist field, genre, track number, album art (properly encoded), date, and album, strictly no other field. None of my file-names contain special characters either.
I've gone even to the extreme of creating scripts on my computer to make sure that every single mp3 file on my collection is stored with the previous parameters.
Now, there are a couple of songs the Google Music keeps showing as "Unknown Artist", no track-number, no album art, etc. even after all the previous efforts. Other music apps (i.e. Rocket Player) show the correct info without a problem.
I've clear Google Music data, reinstall it, reboot phone, but nothing fixes this issue.
I've searched online and this forum. There are two other questions related:
- https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/48252/google-music-unknown-artist-only-in-android-app
The first is totally the opposite of me, where I'm very knowledgable of the ID3 tag standard, how to edit it (I've created Python scripts to automate the process) its version, encoding, and fields.
The second is related to FLAC and none of my files use any other format besides MP3 (with ID3v2.4.0 and UTF8)
Does anybody have any idea of what's going on? Why doesn't Google Music want to read the ID3 from the files? It feels like it's getting its info from an old database and not the files themselves.
PS: I'm using Android 7.0 and latest version of Google Music at the time of writing (v7.10.5022-1.T4178353)

I have a Samsung device of 8GB with an SD card of additional 32GB.
I'm using many apps that cache data for offline use (mainly Google Play Music ), these apps are not smart enough to determine the 32GB of available space and take advantage of it, but instead claim 'no space'.
I thought perhaps there is a workaround for it by merging the external storage with the internal so the apps 'think' there is 48GB.
I don't use several SD cards which means I'm not gonna switch SDs back and forth any time soon.
Do you know a hack for it? Or any solution to make Google Music store its stuff into all available space wherever it is?
I've read [this](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1251896) link, but since I'm not so much into Android development, I didn't understand it, can anyone refer me or translate it into a more detailed guide (I'm not a complete noob, but I'm not a hacker).
P.S. My device is rooted.

I have a Motorola Moto G3 with a measly 4GB of storage, so I bought a 32GB SD card. I installed it as **internal** storage. I have a subscription to Google Play Music and spend a lot of time without an internet connection, so I download a lot of music. I set GPM's storage location to the SD card, but when I try to install apps, it says I'm out of storage even though there's plenty of space left on the SD card. I took a look at the storage and GPM is using practically all the internal storage.
I'm also confused because the SD card shows different amounts used in different menus. I need to either get GPM to store on the SD card like it should or get apps to install anyway.
I guess apps can't install if you don't have internal storage free?

Ideally I want to be able to listen to music through my headphones on the commute home and when I arrive it switches automatically to the Chromecast audio devices.
Is this something that has been done before or shall I start coding?

I have an Ogg Vorbis file (.ogg), which was discovered by the fancy new music player on Android Kitkat and it played fine. However, now that it is no longer officially a "recently added" file, I cannot seem to access it in the music player. It does not appear under "Songs", which otherwise lists all files as far as I can see.
The .ogg file is in the same directory as my mp3 files, which it can see.
And it can definitely still play, the file is not damaged. I have my own app under development for recording, which uses the GUI-free bare-bones media recorder and player libraries provided with Android. And it can play it even though it wasn't intended to!
Has anybody got any ideas? Can I force a refresh of the media library somehow? Clearing data and cache under settings does not do it.

I am wondering how music files, downloaded from the Google Play Store, are stored on an Android device.
In other forums on this site, I found that they are located in the
/sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music
directory. However, I am wondering how the files are named, or organized.
Are they named based on the song name, so for example, would the song "Style" be named under "style.mp3"? Also, are the files organized in a certain file based on a playlist, etc?

At my desk, while working, I typically stream music from Google Play Music (GPM) using my Chromecast Audio device linked up to my hifi. I control this via my Samsung Galaxy S5.
What I'd like is some way to display the 'now playing' track on my Windows 10 laptop (as a widget or notification, preferably), as this is the screen that occupies my attention; I don't want to have to divert my attention from my work in order to turn the phone screen on every time the track changes.
Is there anyway I can accomplish this (I could conceivably script something if there was an appropriate API, but there doesn't seem to be). Or a way to send that info from the phone to the laptop?

I recently followed the advice posted from https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/37565/how-do-i-keep-audiobook-separate-from-google-music/62542#62542 by @Tzunki in order to keep my audiobooks out of Google Play Music.
I made a
.Audiobooks
folder and put them all in there and then added a .nomedia
folder for good measure. It worked great, but now I'm trying to delete out an old audiobook and add a new one, and I can't find the folder or any of the audiobooks.
I've tried searching for the files and the folder names, etc., but it looks like they are all hidden somehow and I can't find any of them in order to edit them. I went back to my audiobook player to make sure they are still there and played them and they play. I checked the root folder for the files in my audiobook player and it shows /storage/emulated/0/.audiobooks
(which is not where I told it to look when I created the .Audiobooks
folder) but I looked there and there is some data file instead of the audiobooks, so I'm thinking it is just like a bookmark so it knows where in the audiobook I left off?
I've tried to just type in Computer\Galaxy S6\Phone\.Audiobooks
, but it says Windows can't find it. Also, I thought I might try to re-create it, and see if it repopulated with my files but when I try to change the name of my New Folder
to .Audiobooks
, it won't change, it just reverts back to New Folder
.
Any help you can offer would be great.

Music plays only if the music app is in foreground or if I went to the launcher and not selected anything.

Music plays fine when not using headphones and just using the speakers.

I'm using an HTC One S running Android 4.2 (actually Cyanogenmod 10.1).
I recently uploaded my entire music library to Google Play Music, and have started using the Google Music app on my phone.
I'd like to be able to "pin" a bunch of music that I can always have on my phone (I don't have a data plan). The app allows this, but you can't select the bitrate or anything like that.
Is there way to force the app to download the music at a lower bitrate so that I can store more? I'm running out of space too quickly.
I believe it's downloading everything at 320kbps, which is overkill for a mobile device that I use with earbuds. I'd be plenty happy with 128kbps. The app allows some changes to the bitrate when streaming music, but I can't find anything related to music that's pinned on the device.
My phone doesn't have an SD card slot, so I can't just add more storage.
Is there any way of doing this? Failing that, are there any third party clients that could utilize my Google Music library with more customization options for pinning music?

I use the Google Play Music app to play locally stored music on my Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.3. I have created some playlists in standard extended m3u format on my computer and transferred them to my phone.
The problem is that the app plays some of the songs in the wrong order. Most songs are shown and played in the right order, but about ten percent are in no particular order.
Shuffle is off (the symbol is black rather than orange).
The playlist is constructed properly and works without issue on winamp on my phone and numerous apps on my computer. The music files are all properly tagged and stored in
/sdcard/Music/artist/album/song
. Playlists are stored in /sdcard/Music
.
I don't use any of the cloud features of the player.
I've tried deleting all music and rescanning, as well as clearing the media storage data, but that does not help.
BTW, according to https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/20380/is-google-play-music-the-same-as-the-stock-android-music-app , the Google Play Music app is not the same as the stock Android music app, but I can't find the 4.3 stock Android music app. Is that post still true?
Any ideas for getting the app to play playlists in the correct order?
EDIT: I used a Playlist backup app to export the Google Play Music version of a playlist and compared it to the text of the m3u file present on the phone that GPM purported to read. This confirmed that GPM messed up the order of the tracks on the playlist.

I am often surprised by the treatment of MP3 names by the native music player, Play Music. Fairly frequently albums are split, or unexpected titles pop up, etc. I am pretty meticulous about ID3s in my collection, and I often can't exactly determine the reason for the unexpected behavior.
Luckily, for those files I copy directly to the phone (Nexus 4), I can fix the issue fairly simply with an app called MP3dit (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ADnet&hl=en) . For those that I upload to the cloud via Google Music Manager I am not aware of any such option. Is there a method for changing these? I can't find any alternatives/plugins to Google Music Manager, or at least not yet.
I thought of trying the "Keep on Device" thumbtack button - doing keep, making the edit, and then unkeeping it. However, this is would be tedious and unwieldy, plus I can't seem to find the location of the file once it is downloaded.
One, but far from the only example. Tags looks uniform, but player splits album. And that one funky artist name with all the extra spaces!
So...
1 - Is there a way for me to change the artist/track/album info on these cloud-stored songs?
2 - Can anyone shed some light on the naming system in general? I'm fairly certain it isn't simply ID3s. Some albums that look totally uniform on my hard drive are then split when copied to the Nexus 4 (both on device and remotely stored, but at least those on the device are fairly easily fixed)

Google Music 'Unknown Artist' only in Android App

So I have an album that for some reason shows up as of an 'Unknown artist' in my library in the Google Music app. I already fixed the tags in Foobar (and also checked them again with MP3Tag ) and then deleted the old files off my sd card and copied the fixed ones back on it. Yet still, they show up without an artist in the app...
I tried several things:
- Uploading them to my Google Music Library, then they show up just fine. (So the files should be correct. But I want them on my extra SD card, so this was just to see if there was still something wrong with the files.)
- Clear all the data of the Google Music app (menu->apps->google play->clear data.) Didn't change a thing.
- Reinstall the Google Music app.
- Remove the com.google.android.music folder.
- Restart phone.
Nothing fixed it... Now I don't know what else I could try. Obviously something went wrong, since at first the tags were wrong, but I fixed them. Any other program I tried reads them just fine. Any ideas on how to fix it?
Edit:
I just tried another music app on android (doubleTwist) and that also shows those songs under 'Unknown artist'... Yet when I copy the file back from my SD card to my pc it does show both Artist and Album artist correctly. I'm stumped. Is there some kind of cash of android I can clear? (Already tried clearing the Google Music app cash.) I'm completely stumped on what's going wrong :(
Edit 2:
I just found that the 'unknown artists'-songs apparently use an older/different version of Flac than the other files. According to foobar the bad songs are flac 1.1.1, while the other files are 1.2.1. When looking in Mp3tag the bad ones says 'FLAC (FLAC ID3v2)' and the good ones say 'FLAC (FLAC)'.
Thanks a lot!

I'm an avid music lover, and over my long life collected many rare CDs. I made MP3s of these CDs and had happily listened to them on my iPhone using iTunes.
This week I switched to Android (Samsung Galaxy s10e). I painstakingly uploaded all of my Music folder from my Windows 10 PC onto Google Play Music using the Chrome extension.
Only 3/4s of my MP3s successfully uploaded. Under Google Play Music > Settings> Music from My Computer, there's no mention of any failures.
After a quick look, it seems that the rarer recordings were the items skipped. These recordings are not in Google Play Music's library, so now I'm fearing that I can only upload MP3s that are in Google's database.
**Questions:**
1. Can anyone confirm this theory?
2. If it's true, what can I do to get all my MP3s, as they are, onto this Android phone and be able to organize them into playlists and listen to them?
