Device : Moto X Play ( Rooted, Stock, Android 6.0.1, msm8916 Board, XT1562) ## Why do I want to limit charging ? ( Let's leave out whether my reasons are valid or not and accept that I **want** to, if you disagree with my reasons) To improve the longevity of battery , I wish to limit charging when it reaches 90%, as explained here https://android.stackexchange.com/q/156526/131553 ## Is it possible? Yes, at least on my previous device Honor 6, as brought out here https://android.stackexchange.com/q/92413/131553 , with two different ways of doing it I have tried unsuccessfully to identify the file responsible in which changing values would limit charging ## I am looking for the system file responsible for stopping charging, with it's true path (without symlinks) (as I saw on on my previous device, locating the path of file was a big challenge after identifying it) ----------

I have a Moto X (Lollipop 5.1) whose display is broken. I have some files and photos in it which are very important. Unfortunately, I didn't use Dropbox or Google Drive to backup my content. I tried the following ways to recover the data but with no help: - [Control a device with a broken screen](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395) but unfortunately USB debugging is not enabled. Also, the pc doesn't recoganize the device (I figured that out with lsusb on my linux). - The phone doesn't have any apps like AirDroid installed to allow it to be accessed remotely on a PC. The phone works and I was able to locate and ring it via Android Device Manager. Is there a way to get access to the phone's data in my current situation?

How would one power down an Android phone (Moto X 2nd gen - Android 5.1) without the ability to interact with the screen? USB debugging not enabled, nor is custom recovery. I know how to reboot it, that is not the question. The question is about turning off, not restarting, the device. The phone has a broken screen (black screen, blank screen, cracked screen) and also does not respond to touch, so the answer should not include any screen interaction. Is there a series of button presses, timings, and preconditions (if applicable) if executed will leave the phone in a true power off state?

I have the 2014 Moto X, running Lollipop. For some contacts, when I try to send them a message, I get an SMS saying "Error: Invalid Number." I have noticed that this happens when I go to compose a message in the stock Messages app and then search for a contact. For example, if I start typing "Ka" in the search box,it will suggest all contacts with "Ka" in the name. Then I tap the one I want to send a message to, and for some reason, the number gets truncated. If the contact has the number +1 (123) 456-7890, then after I tap it, it shows up as +1 456-7890 and hence is unable to deliver the message since it is an invalid number. This also only happens with some contacts, seemingly at random, since all my numbers are formatted the same way, so it can't be because of the format. Has anyone else experienced this and what can be done to fix this?

When I try to flash gpt.bin, the following error appears on my phone downgraded security version update gpt_main version failed preflash validation failed for GPT Now I've looked into this quite a bit and found that it is caused by Motorola's own security protections. The only thing I can find to get around it is waiting for the new security patches. However, those threads I find are pre dropped support. Cyanogenmod is probably responsible for this since it is still getting security patches. Therefore, there never will be an updated stock to flash. How do I get around this issue? I have a nandroid backup of the phone pre-Cyanogen, but I'd rather just flash a clean stock than use the backup if possible.

I have a Moto X Pure running Android 6.0. I have a lot of pictures saved on it. I was recently taking pictures and the device ran out of battery and switched off. When I got home and turned it back on, I couldn't locate the last 30 or so photos that I took when the battery was running low. The videos that I took during this same time show a file size of 0kB and are not openable. However, all the older photos - even the ones I took earlier on the same day - are completely unaffected. I am wondering what could have caused this? Is there a way to recover the photos without having to root the device (most file recovery software that Google searches showed up need the device to be rooted to access internal memory)? I have around 1 GB of free space and I've never received a low disk space notification, nor did I get any other error when taking these pictures. Any help is appreciated.

I followed the same procedure but had no luck. Following is the procedure that I went through. 1) Dial *#*#4636#*#* 2) A hidden menu would start, select "Phone Information" 3) In this window, there is a switch that says "VoLTE provisioned". This by default is off, turn this on 4) Restart the phone. I tried this number of times, but it turns back off every time. Can anyone help?

I am dealing with a Motorola X4 that says "Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and will not boot." when ever I try to boot it up. I am able to get the device into fastboot mode, and I can use fastboot on my computer to see the device info, but when I try ./fastboot oem get_unlock_data I get:
(bootloader) Failed to get unlock data.
OKAY [ 0.002s]
Finished. Total time: 0.002s
And when I try ./fastboot oem unlock I get:
(bootloader) Check 'OEM unlocking' in Android Settings > Developer
(bootloader) Options
OKAY [ 0.001s]
Finished. Total time: 0.001s
Since the phone will not boot, I cannot turn it on to change the Android settings. I am also unable to get the device to be detected by adb. Is there anything else I can do from here to get the OEM unlock code?

I recently got a Moto X4. Unlike my previous phone, the Nexus 5X, this one does not support AOA 2.0 , meaning it cannot digitally connect to the Kenwood head unit in my car. Previously, I was able to broadcast sound from my phone to the car stereo, and could use the pause and navigation buttons to control my phone. No more. I emailed Project Fi about it, and while they couldn't tell me for sure whether the X4 could do this (it can't), they did tell me that the Pixel phones do not support AOA. So, if Google doesn't support AOA on their phones anymore, is there any new protocol or API to replace it? Has Google given up on USB audio? Or are there USB headphones you can connect directly to the Pixel? For car stereos, is Android Auto support the only way to go from here on out?

My Moto X 1st edition (XT-1060, career Verizon, OS 5.1) doesn't stay rooted. I mean to say that it turns back to unrooted state wherever it reboots or even when it is left untouched for an hour or so. Any system apps that I've uninstalled while rooted also shown in super user applist and any other root related changes e.g changed font also reverts back.. I've tried many tools to preform root operation like iRoot but none of them does the job. Kingo Root however does the job but as I mentioned the phone reverts back to unrooted state after being rooted. Moreover, all the tutorials and guides about rooting my phone mentions in the first place that I need to unlock the bootloader first. I have tried the official method for unlocking the bootloader but it simply does not work. Just to mention, official method requires following of some steps after which phone shows some strings and you can paste those strings on Motorola's site to know if your phone has an unlockable bootloader or not. They say my phone's bootloader cannot be unlocked. It is also not the developer edition of Moto X otherwise the things were much easier. It is a carrier specific version of Moto X i.e. Verizon and the official Moto website says about such phones that: **Please keep in mind there are many factors as to why a device is or is not unlockable. Carrier exclusive models are almost never unlockable** So my question is that: **Can I somehow unlock my phone's bootloader or root it?** My actual concern is about rooting it so if it can be done somehow without unlocking the bootloader, I'll be more than happy. I included bootloader unlocking as a part of my question just because I cannot see any way without doing so.

I bought a brand new Motorola phone. It was at around 70% of battery charge when I got it, but I've never been able to charge it. I plug the charger to the wall, the USB-C (factory provided) to the phone, and it just does nothing. Customer service chat wouldn't consider hardware issues before making me follow several default troubleshooting steps that clearly didn't apply to my case ("try force-rebooting", as if the phone was unresponsive – it isn't –, or "try factory reset: please charge the phone before doing it" – are you kidding!?) I would do the factory reset (I still have about 28% charge left, which should be enough), even if I find it pointless, but **can the software be an issue at all**? The phone won't charge even if it's powered off!
