I accidentally removed /system/bin/toolbox on my Android 5.1.1 tablet. Right now I have temporarily replaced it by a busybox binary I had at hand, so the system is somewhat usable but not completely functional (e.g. no network connection). I have tried to pull the toolbox binary from other devices I have, but those are either Android 4 or Android 6, so it didn't work due to unresolved linker symbols. Is there a place where I can get a binary for a specific Android version? Or is there a place on my device where a backup is kept?

Downgrade from Lollipop to KitKat for Moto E I've done all those steps mentioned in the downgrade process. I've used the some resource files mentioned in that youtube page. But problem arised in the final process of Downgrade. After formatting process, it gives me error that "Invalid Signed Image" & "Preflash Validation Failed". I Could not find out any solution for this issue. Now my phone has no OS. SO Can anyone suggest me to Boot OS to my Phone? Any suggestions will be greatly helpful to me..

I have a Samsung Galaxy J2 Ace, running Android 5.1.1. I want to root it now, and I have installed its respective system firmware from Frija. Initially, I followed David Bombal's tutorial on how to root Android (he used Magisk), but later found out that it is only supported for Android 6+, and so it is not applicable. I have tried Kingroot, Kingoroot, SuperSU, Magisk, Ding Dong Root, etc., and none support the device. I decided that if I unlock the bootloader and then upload a custom ROM using Odin, the phone might get rooted. Just asking if this technique will work. (I am a Windows/Linux user and don't know much about rooting, just had a useless phone) If not, then how?

I've been having trouble with the sound quality of with my Motorola Roadster 2. Basically this is a bluetooth In-Car speakerphone that can stream incoming media audio to my FM radio, so I can enjoy listening to my music library in my car that has no 3.5mm jack. I always thought that the sound quality was mediocre due to the FM remodulation, that is, until I connected an iPad to it and played some songs over it. The quality was absolutely better than that of my Android phone. Apple has a different bluetooth stack for their devices obviously, so I've started looking into this. I've used this Stack Exchange answer to find out what codec my Samsung Galaxy S3 was using when streaming to the device. It seems that the Roadster 2 uses the A2DP profile and supports SBC as well as MPEG-1.2 codecs, but the phone chooses the inferior SBC after checking the capabilities for some obscure reason. Some research suggests that SBC is not recommended for music streaming because quality is not ideal, so my guess was to try using the MPEG-1.2 codec instead. However, after some very thorough digging, I cannot, for the love of God, find any configuration to try and force the MPEG-1.2 codec with the Bluedroid Bluetooth Stack that is used with Android 4.2+ . The old BlueZ stack had an option in its configuration file (/system/etc/bluetooth/audio.conf) to enable a different codec, but it doesn't work anymore with the new Bluedroid stack. Is there a similar way to force a different codec than SBC? I'm using Android 5.1 (Cyanogenmod 12.1 to be exact).

I am using a Samsung Galaxy A3 2016 (SM-A310F) smartphone with Android 5.1.1. I am trying to combine several icons on the home screens into folders, like I did on various other Android devices before. Samsung's manual for SM-A310F indicates that creating folders works like on the other Android devices I used; by tapping and holding an icon for a few seconds, then by dragging it onto another icon (to create a new folder) or onto an existing folder (to add the icon to that folder). However, this does not work on the phone I am using: Holding an icon does not do anything while in the normal mode: normal mode The home screen can only be edited after tapping *Bearbeiten* (*Edit*) in the top right corner of each of the home screen pages to switch to an edit mode: edit mode In there, icons cannot be dragged, only deleted (each icon is adorned with a little "minus" overlay icon in this mode). If this is not the standard behaviour of Android 5.1.1, I am seeing no indication of that in the system info. So, my question is: **How can I create folders on the home screens in Android 5.1.1?** I found [one vaguely similar question](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/120947/how-to-create-nested-folders-on-home-screen-in-lollipop) , but I am not looking for installing any special launcher apps or exceed the built-in maximum number of apps per folder, I just want to access the folder feature that has always been around on previous Android versions on devices by different manufacturers. One additional option is described on [Solvemix](http://www.solvemix.com/index.php/android-smartphones/357-android-lollipop-create-folder-for-apps-how-it-works) , where it is explained that users should tap "at the top right on the three-point symbol" in the app menu. However, no such three-point symbol is present in the app menu on the device I am trying to configure.

My phone is an (old, trashy, crap, …) LG l65 phone with custom ROM with patches on patches on patches on… This phone has 2 GB of internal storage, is fully rooted (along with custom recovery and ROM I said above) and current OS version is Android 5.1 (not 6 sadly). For now I only ran adb shell pm set-install-location 2 This command works very well, although in my case this isn't enough as installed apps make configurations right on /storage/emulated/0/.android and data folder. And are bigger than apps itself. I tried to run mv /storage/emulated/0/ /storage/sdcard1/internal/ && ln -s /storage/sdcard1/internal/ /storage/emulated/0/ but the command failed on the first subcommand (mv) exactly like here: [Can't move folder in Android terminal](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/34820052/cant-move-folder-in-android-terminal) and heard it won't link between devices anyway. Is it possible to move internal to external or do I need to suffer with non-updated apps, blocked SMS and new downloads?

Device-info: - Phone: Sony Xperia Z1 - Model number: C6903 - Android version: 5.1.1 - Build Number: 14.6.A.1.236 - Rooted, BusyBox and Terminal Emulator installed (Play Store Version!!!) I have formatted an SD-Card to an ext4-filesystem and put another Linux on it. After mounting the filesystem and files without problems I want to execute: chroot /data/local/mnt /bin/bash with /data/local/mnt is the Linux root-folder. Execute the line above leads to the message: chroot: can't execute '/bin/bash': Permission denied I have checked the permission of /bin/bash and also of /data/local/mnt and remounted nearly every path which are related to that folder with exec and rw permission. So maybe you know some special rights-associated files or folders I forgot, but I think the problem is something else... After readed that some of the [Linux-on-Android project-users](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585009) had some trouble with executing the init.sh because of selinux I set it to permissive: root@C6903:/ # setenforce 0 and checked it: root@C6903:/ # getenforce Permissive (Of course) chroot does not work. So I checked the message buffer of the kernel for selinux-avc-deny-messages and BINGO: root@C6903:/ # dmesg | grep denied ... [58575.652383] type=1400 audit(1470337082.042:10188): avc: denied { read } for pid=18553 comm="busybox" name="mmcblk0p23" dev="tmpfs" ino=9821 scontext=u:r:ric:s0 tcontext=u:object_r:block_device:s0 tclass=blk_file op_res=0 ppid=4602 pcomm="ric" tgid=4602 tgcomm="ric" [58575.653740] type=1400 audit(1470337082.042:10189): avc: denied { open } for pid=18553 comm="busybox" name="mmcblk0p23" dev="tmpfs" ino=9821 scontext=u:r:ric:s0 tcontext=u:object_r:block_device:s0 tclass=blk_file op_res=0 ppid=4602 pcomm="ric" tgid=4602 tgcomm="ric" [58575.655002] type=1400 audit(1470337082.042:10190): avc: denied { ioctl } for pid=18553 comm="busybox" path="/dev/block/mmcblk0p23" dev="tmpfs" ino=9821 scontext=u:r:ric:s0 tcontext=u:object_r:block_device:s0 tclass=blk_file op_res=0 ppid=4602 pcomm="ric" tgid=4602 tgcomm="ric" These are just 3. You can have some more if you want! So 1. QUESTION: **Why does selinux denies something when getenforce returns Permissive???** But I thought first that could be fixed anyway by allowing all these denied permissions with: supolicy --live "allow source_class target_class permission_class permission" FOR EXAMPLE: root@C6903:/ # supolicy --live "allow ric rootfs file execute_no_trans" which returns: Patching policy ... -allow:ric:rootfs:file:execute_no_trans=ok - Success Well (of course) it did not work AND I get a denied message for the exact same case for a bunch of cases. So 2. QUESTION: **Why does allowing policies not change policies to be allowed???** (Of course) I am not 100% sure if the denial of executing chroot is related to selinux and it would be very easy to find it out if I could just set it to permissive.... So 3. QUESTION: **How to solve this problem?** In [Graeme Hill's Dev Blog](http://graemehill.ca) article [Compiling a permissive Android kernel](http://graemehill.ca/compiling-permissive-android-kernel/) he says: >There is a command called setenforce which toggles modes, and there are some apps on the Google Play store which do the same thing, but none of them will work until we modify the kernel. 4. Question: **Is that related to every device with Android 5.X or differs from manufacturers?**

I am now trying to get my old phone to life. This is Nexus 4 with Android 5.1.1. I have successfully restored it to the factory, now I am trying to configure it with my Google account. Unfortunately, each time I enter a password, it redirects me to the "Add phone number?" screen and I get stuck there - links "more info", "skip", and "I'm in" simply do not work. The only thing I can do is cancel the whole operation. I also gave a try with another Google account - it also got stuck on the screen asking "Who will be using this device?". Is there any way to configure the account?

Which, simply isn't an option for most public Wi-Fi hotspots. Perhaps , there's simply no solution. Incidentally, my Kindle connects to the Wi-Fi hotspot, then, of its own volition, brings me to the captive portal through datavalet. Seems specific to Android that I must first try to browse to a random website, which, sometimes, will then bring me to a captive portal. Maybe.

How would one power down an Android phone (Moto X 2nd gen - Android 5.1) without the ability to interact with the screen? USB debugging not enabled, nor is custom recovery. I know how to reboot it, that is not the question. The question is about turning off, not restarting, the device. The phone has a broken screen (black screen, blank screen, cracked screen) and also does not respond to touch, so the answer should not include any screen interaction. Is there a series of button presses, timings, and preconditions (if applicable) if executed will leave the phone in a true power off state?

I have a LG G3 running 5.1.1 and I can successfully enable Portable Wi-Fi hotspot through the Settings menu. I can see my portable Wi-Fi SSID on another Android device when enabled through the Settings menu. Additionally, I can confirm that hostapd is running with an auto-generated config file. root@d851:/ # ps | grep hostapd wifi 6841 302 10892 1280 c026dd60 b6ed98b4 S /system/bin/hostapd root@d851:/ # cat /proc/6841/cmdline /system/bin/hostapd -e /data/misc/wifi/entropy.bin /data/misc/wifi/hostapd.conf My problem arises when I attempt to run hostapd manually through adb shell using the exact same arguments as hostapd spawned through the Settings menu. I am disabling Wi-Fi manually through the settings menu and issuing the following command. It appears that hostapd initializes successfully but the Wi-Fi SSID is never seen by other devices. root@d851:/ # /system/bin/hostapd -ddd -e /data/misc/wifi/entropy.bin /data/misc/wifi/hostapd.conf The following was captured from logcat when the above command was issued. SELinux is in permissive mode so I have ruled that out. What am I possibly missing? Is there some other piece of configuration that is necessary to actual enable the portable Wi-Fi hotspot from adb shell? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I am trying to test an app i have been sitting on for a while. In order to do that i need to use the option "Allow mock Locations", so i set it to on. But as soon as i refresh the page it's gets automatically turned back off every single time. So i am unable to use this option. I tried finding if an installed app does effect that but as it turned out was not the problem there. This is the only rooted phone i have so i need to get this working on this device. I'm using 5.1.1, OnePlus X Anybody maybe with a similar problem or any suggestions? Thank you.

I updated my Lenovo A2010-a to the latest version (Android 5.1): I just clicked on a message that says "You have a new update. Update has downloaded and can be installed" then it opened a new window. On that window, I click on the button "install", then the phone rebooted and was updating (showing a green Android icon). The battery was in normal condition (not low). After that, the phone booted normally. After updating, I have an error on all applications installed on my phone. Error for all applications in one separate window, one after one. With text like this (translated from Russian to English) > Error in application "Google Keyboard" What I can do to resolve that problem?

I have an old (but rooted) phone running Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop). I realized it runs many background processes which I absolutely don't need. I can stop them manually via Settings > Apps > Background processes, however I wish to keep them disabled: they slow down the cold-start of the phone which I don't like. So I'm looking for a way to not just disable but completely ban certain processes (i.e. ban them from starting). How can I do this on these old versions of Android? Unfortunately Google is quite blurry and noisy for these search terms.

I have recently changed my Moto G LTE (XT1039) from Android 4.x to 5.1. The device is not rooted. After the update, I found that Llama - Location Profiles 's toggle mobile data - mobile data off action fails to disable my mobile data. After checking out a few alternatives, I found that several automation apps have reviews mentioning a similar situation. For example Data ON-OFF has this review: > Not working 5.1 motto 4g Used to work on 4.4.4 uninstalled until it gets an update. How do I automate the toggling of mobile data on/off in Android 5.1? Or, has there been a change to the Android API to remove this functionality?

I have tried the solution here: https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/100657/how-to-disable-captive-portal-detection-how-to-remove-exclamation-mark-on-wi-fi However, it only removed the exclamation mark besides the wi-fi signal symbol, but the phone still won't connect to that wi-fi automatically.

The problem is, if there is a link in the message body, no matter where I tap on the message - it gets me to that website instead of showing this context menu. How do I forward this type of text?
