I am using a Samsung Galaxy A3 2016 (SM-A310F) smartphone with Android 5.1.1. I am trying to combine several icons on the home screens into folders, like I did on various other Android devices before. Samsung's manual for SM-A310F indicates that creating folders works like on the other Android devices I used; by tapping and holding an icon for a few seconds, then by dragging it onto another icon (to create a new folder) or onto an existing folder (to add the icon to that folder). However, this does not work on the phone I am using: Holding an icon does not do anything while in the normal mode: normal mode The home screen can only be edited after tapping *Bearbeiten* (*Edit*) in the top right corner of each of the home screen pages to switch to an edit mode: edit mode In there, icons cannot be dragged, only deleted (each icon is adorned with a little "minus" overlay icon in this mode). If this is not the standard behaviour of Android 5.1.1, I am seeing no indication of that in the system info. So, my question is: **How can I create folders on the home screens in Android 5.1.1?** I found [one vaguely similar question](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/120947/how-to-create-nested-folders-on-home-screen-in-lollipop) , but I am not looking for installing any special launcher apps or exceed the built-in maximum number of apps per folder, I just want to access the folder feature that has always been around on previous Android versions on devices by different manufacturers. One additional option is described on [Solvemix](http://www.solvemix.com/index.php/android-smartphones/357-android-lollipop-create-folder-for-apps-how-it-works) , where it is explained that users should tap "at the top right on the three-point symbol" in the app menu. However, no such three-point symbol is present in the app menu on the device I am trying to configure.

I'm using a Samsung A03 and the factory usb-C to usb-C cable provided by Samsung. I've actually noticed this in other Samsung models I've owned in the past. If I'm playing a game when I connect the charger, it almost makes the phone completely unresponsive where it takes up to 15-20 seconds for any input to register. This usually leads to me hitting the home or active apps button multiple times thinking that maybe I missed the button the first time. The frustrating thing is that every input is queued leading to "System UI not responding" message and myself throwing a tantrum like a 3 year old

So, the battery on my Samsung Galaxy A3 drained completely. Then I plugged in USB cable, and the empty battery logo appeared - and nothing else, to graphics to indicate it was charging: phone-stuck-boot-empty battery I left the USB plugged in for some 15-20 minutes, then I unplugged it. Now the screen STILL shows an empty battery logo, even after some 15-20 minutes after unplugging. I had kept power button pressed for more than 30 seconds, nothing happens. I had kept Volume Up + Power button pressed for more than 10 seconds, in hopes it would reboot to recovery, nothing happens. I would have taken out the battery at this point, but this damn phone does not allow the battery to be replaced. What do I do now to get this phone working again?

media control "resume" and "pause" via NFC tag do not work

# Problem description I wrote tasks onto NFC tags * to play different playlists in a media player app, * to control the media player (Vol +/-, next/previous title, pause/resume, quit media player) and * to shut down the smartphone. Starting the media player playing a certain playlist works fine. All media control commands/tasks **work fine except for "pause", "resume" and "pause/resume"**. Quitting the media player (with root permissions) and shutting down the smartphone work. **The smartphone recognizes these commands/tasks** and prints them to the display when a NFC tag with one of these commands written onto it is held onto the smartphone's NFC reader. However, the **currently running music is not paused and paused music is not resumed**. There is no difference between running the media player in the background or in the foreground. # Question What might cause this issue and how can I solve it? # Technical Details * **OS:** Lineage OS 17.1 official (Android 10) * **device:** Galaxy A3 2016 * **media player app:** VLC Media player (but also tested Foldplay, Vanilla Music, mMusic Mini, Audify Music, AOSP Music+, Schlichter Music-Player, Simple Music Player, Lineage OS Music Player 3.0). * **NFC Writer Apps:** MacroDroid (root permissions), NFC Tools PRO (default user permissions) * **tried these NFC tag writers as well** (but they could not write *media control* commands onto NFC tags)**:** NFC TagWrite by NXP, NFC Writer by Trigger, NFC/RF Reader and Write (by GreenlifeiInfo Tech), NFC-Tags write and read (by Yalintech), NFC Tag Writer & Reader (by Winning Studios Apps) * can be **reproduced** on **same smartphone model** with **Lineage OS 19.1 unofficial** (Android 12) without any root permissions # Some other details I am setting up a "music box" for my child similar to a [Tony Box](https://tonies.com/en-gb/) based on a Galaxy A3 2016. This music box should be controlable by NFC tags - except for turning the smartphone on. Most tasks are written via the MacroDroid App which has root priviledges. "pause/resume" neither works when written via MacroDroid (root) nor when written via NFC Tasks Pro (without root priviledges). The display briefly flickers if a "media control pause/resume/pause-or-resume" command/task is issued via a NFC tag. But, nothing else happens except ... [see next paragraph]. If I play an audio file in the LineageOS Music Player by tabbing onto the file in the file browser, a minimal version of the player appears. If I hold a "media control: pause" tag onto the smartphone's NFC readern then the app is killed. However, this does not happen when I start the LineageOS mediaplayer manually and start playing audio files from within the player. This happens with no other player. /edit: # What I tried so far to solved this issue * tried nine different music players * looked for (and tried) different NFC writer apps; however, most of the NFC writer apps do not allow writing media control tasks * searched via my favorite search machine for my problem: * the search results are related to old problems more then five years ago and, hence, target old android versions * often all media control commands are affected * only some apps are affected (e.g. [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/tasker/comments/d43kt0/help_media_control_toggle_pause_not_working_on/)) * tried another version of LineageOS * tried a smartphone with a freshly installed OS

I have a rooted Galaxy A3 2017 (SM-A320F) running Android 8.0.0. I'm trying to capture raw photos, but neither the stock Camera app nor Open Camera show any relevant options (I have enabled Camera2 API). This option wasn't present before rooting too. On another phone, unrooted Galaxy Note8, the option is present at least in Open Camera. So I suppose the option is somehow disabled in my A3. Can it be re-enabled without switching to a completely different firmware? How? Note that [another question](https://android.stackexchange.com/q/48880/121876) proposed as a duplicate is 1) asking about very old version of Android — 4.2.2, which doesn't have Camera2 API, and 2) asks simply whether there exist any apps with such functionality, which today is of course _yes_. So this one is not a duplicate. This question is about _how to re-enable the missing raw photo support_ instead.

Is there any way to allow alarms ( set in the clock app) to go off in this mode? I've checked through the settings for this mode and I can't find anything which allows it. I've searched the web and I couldn't fine anything about this though I did find some stuff on UPSM but the settings didn't seem to match.

I want to root my phone, but first I was trying to install TWRP. The phone is Galaxy A3 SM-A320FL (2017). (Edit: System is Android 7.0) What I did: - Turned on OEM-unlock and USB-debugging on the phone - Installed the Samsung USB drivers on my laptop - Turned off phone, went into "Download Mode" by pressing Volume down - Home - Power - Started Odin. Connected the phone. In Options I ticked only "Auto Reboot" and "F Reset Time" - Clicked on AP and selected the TWRP file and hit Start - Then PASS was flashing in Odin and the phone rebooted immediately. - Turned it off and tried to enter recovery mode. (I think I did it with Volume Up - Home - Power) ...and then a blue screen came and said "Installing system update". After a while it changed to a blue screen that said "No command". Then after a while it changed to a screen that I think is the standard recovery tool. So no TWRP. I hit Reboot and the phone rebooted normally. Then tried to do the whole thing again with a different TWRP file but it went exactly the same. I'm newbie with all this so I might be using a wrong TWRP file or something, I also seen tutorials where it says dont thick Auto-Reboot and they press all sorts of button combinations. I don't want to brick this phone so I wanted to ask how to do this right before I try it again. Thanks for help!

According to [this DroidWiki article](https://www.droidwiki.org/wiki/TeamWin_Recovery_Project#ADB_im_Recovery)(the article is in German), I should be able to use adb commands in this mode as well. However, "adb devices" shows me nothing. Any ideas or is the information wrong for this phone? Reason I am asking: After resetting the phone to factory settings, some valuable Memo-Notes seem to be deleted. I would like to copy an image of the partition to my computer (as described in [this answer](https://stackoverflow.com/a/49287932/2135504) from StackOverflow), and then use testdisk to potentially still find the relevant deleted file. The phone is not rooted which seems to make things a lot more complicated...

My phone installed a software update and upon restarting, I get a 'verification failed' error message. It continues "Unable to restart you device. The integrity verification has failed. You need to reset your device to factory default settings. This will erase all your data." The only option it gives is to 'reset device' - I do not want to do this and lose all my data! I tried powering off and restarting in safe mode, but to no avail. How can the update be so flakey!? At the expense of all my data...? I loaded the recovery screen and wiped the cache. But still no result. Thank you in advance.

We are using Office365 Exchange cloud email accounts. I have configured Samsung Galaxy A3 and there are 2 email apps by default - GMail and E-mail (probably from Samsung?). I have added Google account and Exchange account to the phone settings but then could not find the e-mail account in the E-mail app and found it in Gmail app. On the other hand the Gmail account shows only in the E-mail app. When trying to connect the E-mail app to Office365 account, it creates second Microsoft Exchange Active Sync account that presumably synchronizes independently from GMail Exchange account. It is quite a messy, what would be the most convenient way for the user to configure those accounts and clients presuming that the user wants to save contacts to Google account and view e-mail & calendar on Office365 account?

The Galaxy A3 does charge at 1500 mA when plugged to a charger. 3. The powerbank is a GP Powerbank FP05M 3.7V 5000 mAh/18.5Wh, Input DC 5V/2A; output DC 5V/2.1A.

I just recently bought my first Android based phone (Samsung Galaxy A3). One thing I noticed (or maybe imagined noticing?) is that I appear to only receive notifications (like a new message in WhatsApp or a new email) if that app was previously started (and thereby listed in the "Running Apps" screen). Is that true? Would that not defeat the purpose of notifications? I tried searching for settings that would imply such a behaviour, but couldn't find any. - Restrict background data is turned **off** - WhatsApp/Gmail, etc. all have background data **enabled** - *Sync* (from the top shortcut menu) is **enabled** - Accounts/Sync settings for WhatsApp and Google Accounts are **enabled** - I have a DataUsage warning at 400MB (reached) and a limit at 500MB (not yet reached) - Network connection is set to LTE/3G/2G (automatic) and I am in 4G currently Thats about all I could think off / find... Is there more to check?
