The power button on my Android phone is dodgy and doesn't always work. I think it's on its last legs so I want to avoid pressing it if possible to extend its lifespan! I know nothing about coding or how Android works. But I was wondering if it is possible to send the button press event to the system using this sort of code somehow: KeyEvent#KEYCODE_POWER . Is there a way I can open the power menu via the screen only? Is there something I can type into a terminal (how do you get a terminal in Android?) that would open the power menu?

I have a few other devices that are running Android 12 or less, is there a way to force the user to enter a password to turn it off? I did a search and it seems there is such a feature in newer Android devices by some manufacturers. One suggested way was to set up a macro on the longpress of the power button hence preventing it from shutting down. Is there a way I can achieve this even if it means rooting my phone or using third-party apps?

I have a Philips 58PUS8505/62 4K LED Android TV. Normally, I want to power off the TV by switching off the power outlet the TV is connected. However, the TV or its remote does not provide a menu or key combination (that I know of) to shut down the operating system and power off the TV _before I cut the power_. When I press the red (power) button on the remote, the TV goes into standby. However Android continues to run and I see disk IO on the external disk connected to the USB port of the TV. I know how to "unmount" the external disk, but my question is not on this. I tried to **long press** the power button on the remote (external TV boxes work this way), but nothing different happens. There seems to be no way to power off the TV. What am I missing?

I’m wondering if anyone out there who owns a **Pixel 3a XL** has ever tried to operate it without the battery. I'm asking *specifically* about this model of phone, and am not looking for general guidance like "it depends on the phone". I own a Pixel 3a XL and the battery has started to fail and has expanded as many lithium ion batteries will when they reach their end of life. I’m using it in an always on situation (which perhaps hastened the battery failure), and I don’t really need a battery as it will always have an external power supply when in use. Will it work if I remove the battery? Or is there any modification that I can do to get it to work in Android or via the hardware rather than installing a brand new battery? I wanted to ask the community before attempting battery removal, since as described in this ifixit guide: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Google+Pixel+3a+XL+Battery+Replacement/124631 it is quite involved. TIA.

Asking here because it was originally posted to Super User where it was closed due to the mod considering it an Android device. My fire department recently purchased a TV with the intention of using it to monitor things like calls, call responses and weather. For obvious reasons, this TV needs to stay on 24/7/365 (aside from things like updates or temporary power drops). Now for the problem, this is an Insignia model ns-55f301NA22 and is an Amazon Fire TV (not using a FireStick, it is a Fire TV). From research I have done on Amazon forums, this TV cannot be kept on 24/7. Apparently while you can shut the screensaver off, eventually the TV will go into a power saving or shutdown mode. Does anyone have suggestions on preventing this TV from going into power saving mode? We would really like the screen to stay awake at all times, but if absolutely necessary, we would be willing to have it set to come on with motion activation or something of the like. Edit to add: our call information is sourced from a website which can run through the TV’s browser. The website does have graphics that rotate through a couple different screens.

I am going to "Settings - Device - Power Saving" and there 3 modes are presented to me: 1) Ultra; 2) Smart; 3) Normal. The Ultra mode is enabled and I can not enable the other modes. When I try to enable other modes, the message appears and nothing happens: This function can not be used in ultra power saving mode So - is there way back to the normal power saving mode? I tried to Google this and some suggest to reset the phone to the factory settings. It is something incredible. There should be simple way out of this!? Why the ultra power saving mode is so protected?

I've searched the web and I couldn't fine anything about this though I did find some stuff on UPSM but the settings didn't seem to match.

My phone model is Asus Zenfone Max Z010D. My power button and volume up button are not working. Is there anyway to boot to the homescreen? Since I have installed Android pie (AEX custom rom), they have this EDL issue (cannot reboot to device/recovery). I accidently rebooted the device, and it went to EDL. Then I rebooted it by holding the volume down key with the phone connected to computer by usb, but it then went off automatically. Now it is only showing the offline charging, while connected to charger. How to resolve this?

How can I disable android from rebooting when the power button is pressed for few seconds? Is this done in software? Context: my power button is broken. I tried to remap it by changing the relevant file (/system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl), I uncommented lines that dealt with POWER and changed VOLUME_UP key to power. Right now, pressing the power button doesn't lead to anything, and volume up button would actually power off the screen. But the old problem seems to happen once in a while. I suspect if this feature was implemented in hardware because, after all the phone has to be turned on when the OS is not running. Still, is someone aware if a key in Generic.kl corresponds to the reboot feature?
