My Nexus 5 has burned in a few times over the past year, which is very unusual since I **never** leave it on when not in use (30 second dim time), but today I finally noticed the trend. When I charge the phone with certain chargers, they cause the screen to become fuzzy and distorted, with a colored tinge (what I *thought* was a burn-in). This is 100% reproducible. I've used a few chargers in America, 1 of which resulted in this, so it is not a problem native to Australia. Here in Australia, I use the following Samsung charger, which works perfectly: Model: EP-TA10HWE Input: 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 0.35A OUTPUT: 5.3V === 2.0A S/N: SE2FB04YS/B-E The bad one I used today, which triggered the problem again was also from Samsung: Model: ETA0U10HWE Input: 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 0.15A OUTPUT: 5.0V === 0.7A S/N: DK3G904HS/7-E N363 Here are the symptoms: 1. Plug the phone in, as per normal, with the screen off. Location, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc don't matter. (2 hours will do this - a full charge is not needed to replicate it.) 2. The screen gets a blue tinge, and duller colors. This worsens the longer it is charged. The tinge is noticeably less present at the edges of the screen. 3. Once unplugged, the screen will still get worse over time. This is especially true when using it - an hour of activity on the phone will result in.... 4. **Very** dulled colors, barely distinguishable, a fuzzy screen, and shadow images left wherever objects move. Vertical lines trail behind in these shadow images. Screen is completely white when viewing it from a 45 degree angle. Image album of the screen distortion as the phone charges: Image Facts and other info: - At the top of the screen, there are small parts which are somewhat immune to the blurring and fading. I have scribbled the bits out in this image: https://goo.gl/M7lbwJ - There is no image burned into the screen. It is only a blurring, fading, colored tinge (the color has been green, blue and purple so far), and shadow image (very noticeable dragging a white box across a black background. Dragging the box left means vertical black lines on the right side of the box). - It is impossible to see anything except white when the screen is viewed from a 45 degree angle. - I once cracked the screen (not badly), and had it replaced. It was at a relatively cheap store ($150 AUD), not by the manufacturer. I can't remember if the burn ever happened before the replaced screen. - This has happened about 6 times. Each time I solved it by leaving it on with the "Screen Burn-in Tool" overnight, on maximum brightness. It seems to take about 12 hours to fix it fully. - The phone behaves as normal once recovered - no one could tell the difference between my phone and another. Battery, brightness, etc, are all normal. - It always charges at the expected rate in all chargers. Nothing remarkable about the power graphs, or power usage of apps. The "bad" chargers work normally for other phones. - I've always had the phone in a case, and only ever dropped it that once. I take care of my stuff. ### UPDATE: It happened with a USB cable plugged into a laptop today. What's weird is that I've used this cable with this laptop about a dozen times before (it's only a few weeks old), but it hasn't triggered the effect in it before. There could be some kind of connection to heavily using the phone while it's charging, or right before charging it, as several of the times that this has triggered, I've been recently using my phone heavily (thus why it needed charging). For example, the other times I charged my phone (using the same cable and laptop), I'd only been topping it up, or charging it at the end of the day. ### UPDATE 2: Today I got a brand new Samsung Galaxy S5 for use at work. It came with a brand new charger and brand new cable too. Last night I plugged the new charger into the same wall socket as my old one usually goes in (it was in my luggage), with the new cable, and charged my Nexus 5. Today, I noticed the tint was coming back very slightly, but didn't realize why. When I charged my phone this evening, and it was 100% blurry and tinted, I realized. Everything about the actual charger is identical, except the S/N (Serial Number), and the country of manufacturing. Comparison: Image If we assume that the chargers are the same (it was plugged into the same wall socket), then that must mean that the cable is what's doing it to the phone, since the cables are very different. The new one has the text: E321011 ЯJ AWM STYLE 21104 80°C 30V VW-1 23AWG*2C LUXSHARE-ICT NON-PVC The old one has the text: E102671-0 ЯJ AWM 21445 80°C 30V VW-1 23AWG*2C 30AWG*2C KAYANG HX NT NON-PVC NON-P ### UPDATE 3: Using my good charger base with the new cable didn't cause any problems. Using my new charger base with the good cable __________. (testing now)

This is not duplicate of other questions. I've been struggling with this issue for last 3 weeks and have contacted Google over chat, forums and other avenues too without any luck. I moved from USA to India and now some of the apps can't be downloaded due to payments profile being in USA with an active Google Domains subscription. So far I've tried following steps - - Went to payments.google.com and created another profile with India as country. Now I can see two payment profiles as USA and India. - Added credit cards etc so that it's a valid one - Went to Apps > Play Store and cleared cache and data. Removed my google account and restarted my phone to add Google account again. - Can't delete my cc info from USA payments profile due to active Google Domains subscription. Tried cancelling it, but it takes me to Domains billing page which again asks me to go back to payments page to cancel. So kind of catch 22 situation here. - Unless I cancel Google Domains subscription, can't close my USA payments profile. - Went to Google play to purchase something and it doesn't allow me to buy anything with India card, so other solution to at least reach 'Accept & Buy' stage can't be done. I'm stuck with USA google play store now and would appreciate any help to change country so as to get to useful apps.

Inserted udev rules (like on Arch Wiki ) 8. All of this in a root shell lsusb is not listing the device if I have Android debugging on. If it's off, I see it. (As soon as I switch it on, it disappears.) I don't have Windows at the time, so would this help? **What can I try next?** My goal was to install Ubuntu Touch in dual-boot mode.

I have a new problem with the adb restore command. I created an adb backup -apk -shared -all and it looked like it worked and I think it did because the size is 6 GB. Well I made this from Android L Preview because I wanted to downgrade because of the bugs and when I try to restore it on Android KitKat 4.4.4 it is not working, the adb shell logcat -s BackupManagerService returned this when I tried to make a full restore:
I/BackupManagerService( 758): Beginning full restore...
D/BackupManagerService( 758): Starting restore confirmation UI, token=1224340204
D/BackupManagerService( 758): Waiting for full restore completion...

W/BackupManagerService( 758): Wrong header version: 3
W/BackupManagerService( 758): Invalid restore data; aborting.
I/BackupManagerService( 758): Full restore processing complete.
D/BackupManagerService( 758): Full restore pass complete.
Is there a fix for this? Or another way to restore this information? The backup is encrypted but there is not an error of a wrong password and I am pretty sure it's the correct password.

The Direct Share on Android 6 looks like this: Direct share example, taken from <a href=http://stackoverflow.com/questions/30518321/on-android-m-how-to-configure-the-direct-share-capabilities-image-text-an " class="img-fluid rounded" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto; margin: 10px 0;" loading="lazy"> The problem is, I very rarely send something to contacts. It is much more frequent for me to look for some app, usually for processing the image, e.g. sharing from Google Camera to VSCO cam, or from VSCO cam to Instagram, Facebook, etc. Thus, the app list must be shown first. But I see this contact list that I will very unlikely use. I even doubt the contact in the rare occasion of direct share will be on the list. This functionality also slows down the dialog, it takes quite a while for it to be shown. So, the question is if there is any way to disable this functionality. I just don't need this.

I have found my Google Nexus 5 which I had problems with in 2016 concerning the infamous stuck power button. At some point, the phone was stuck in a restarting loop. Then, I managed to leave this loop by pressing the power button multiple times. After that until this day, when I start it, it is stuck in the Google booting animation of the spinning colored balls. It stays in this animation forever, it has now been in this state for the last 12 hours. Interesting is, that when I turn it off by pressing the power button, it automatically restarts, coming back to this animation screen. Looks like this (animated and moving): enter image description here I don't care about the phone anymore, but I care about my data. Some important things: - phone is not rooted - bootloader is locked - fastboot mode works (Power + VolumeDown) - recovery mode doesn't work (Select it from fastboot mode and then "No command" is shown and I press Power + VolumeUp) So, I can use fastboot commands but not adb commands. Things I have tried / researched (feel free to correct me): - Connect the phone in fastboot mode to my PC and start recovery mode via fastboot command from here. Doesn't work either, the phone restarts then and stays in booting animation. - Tries to start a custom recovery image in fastboot mode via fastboot command, but this requires the bootloader to be unlocked. - Found out that the phone uses an eMMc for storage which you can't remove from the phone and connect it somehow to your PC to access the data (is there really no option to get the data if I remove the eMMc?) Please, in 2023, is there ANY WAY in this world I can rescue my user data under these circumstances or at least some more things I could try?

So to make sure I am doing it correctly, I installed another app "Best HDR" and compared images with that of Android and the first one is much better. Is the HDR of Android that bad or am I doing anything wrong?

I had a LG Nexus 5 running Android in developer mode with the "Show touches" option enabled. Suddenly, while holding the phone steadily in my hand, the device registered tons of touches in the top of the screen, and I decided to turn it off immediately. Now, after a reboot, the touch screen does not respond at all (not true; very rarely responds in a weird manner, that I can not reproduce). Everything else is working: volume buttons and power button. I have tried the following: - Rebooting (obviously) - Restoring to factory settings (which is why I am now stuck on the "Select language"-screen in setup) - Clearing phone cache - Clearing the sim tray (has always been empty, but I tried ejecting and taking back in) I always updated the software to the newest version available. I have not yet tried pulling the battery out and in again. Any ideas? **Update 1:** I have now tried pulling out the battery and re-inserting without any luck. I also installed Kitkat (version 4.0 from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images) . Still no response.

I am having an issue with mobile data no longer working. Mobile data *was* working the day after updating to Android 5.1 on my Nexus 5. But now (1 day later) it is not connecting to mobile data. It just has the cellular icon, with an exclamation point. I've tried toggling data, airplane mode, WiFi, rebooting, factory reset, and resetting the SIM card. The last thing I tried is to call my carrier and go through 2 hours of troubleshooting. They said the only thing left for them to do is send me a new SIM card. It makes no sense. Everything else works fine. I can make and receive calls. Texting works. And WiFi works as well. Just not the mobile data. The weird thing is that it stopped working on the first day of my mobile data cycle. But the carrier swears that all is well on their side.
