My Nexus 5 has burned in a few times over the past year, which is very unusual since I **never** leave it on when not in use (30 second dim time), but today I finally noticed the trend.
When I charge the phone with certain chargers, they cause the screen to become fuzzy and distorted, with a colored tinge (what I *thought* was a burn-in). This is 100% reproducible.
I've used a few chargers in America, 1 of which resulted in this, so it is not a problem native to Australia.
Here in Australia, I use the following Samsung charger, which works perfectly:
Model: EP-TA10HWE
Input: 100-240V~
50-60Hz 0.35A
OUTPUT: 5.3V === 2.0A
S/N: SE2FB04YS/B-E
The bad one I used today, which triggered the problem again was also from Samsung:
Model: ETA0U10HWE
Input: 100-240V~
50-60Hz 0.15A
OUTPUT: 5.0V === 0.7A
S/N: DK3G904HS/7-E
N363
Here are the symptoms:
1. Plug the phone in, as per normal, with the screen off. Location, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc don't matter. (2 hours will do this - a full charge is not needed to replicate it.)
2. The screen gets a blue tinge, and duller colors. This worsens the longer it is charged. The tinge is noticeably less present at the edges of the screen.
3. Once unplugged, the screen will still get worse over time. This is especially true when using it - an hour of activity on the phone will result in....
4. **Very** dulled colors, barely distinguishable, a fuzzy screen, and shadow images left wherever objects move. Vertical lines trail behind in these shadow images. Screen is completely white when viewing it from a 45 degree angle.
Image album of the screen distortion as the phone charges:
Facts and other info:
- At the top of the screen, there are small parts which are somewhat immune to the blurring and fading. I have scribbled the bits out in this image: https://goo.gl/M7lbwJ
- There is no image burned into the screen. It is only a blurring, fading, colored tinge (the color has been green, blue and purple so far), and shadow image (very noticeable dragging a white box across a black background. Dragging the box left means vertical black lines on the right side of the box).
- It is impossible to see anything except white when the screen is viewed from a 45 degree angle.
- I once cracked the screen (not badly), and had it replaced. It was at a relatively cheap store ($150 AUD), not by the manufacturer. I can't remember if the burn ever happened before the replaced screen.
- This has happened about 6 times. Each time I solved it by leaving it on with the "Screen Burn-in Tool" overnight, on maximum brightness. It seems to take about 12 hours to fix it fully.
- The phone behaves as normal once recovered - no one could tell the difference between my phone and another. Battery, brightness, etc, are all normal.
- It always charges at the expected rate in all chargers. Nothing remarkable about the power graphs, or power usage of apps. The "bad" chargers work normally for other phones.
- I've always had the phone in a case, and only ever dropped it that once. I take care of my stuff.
### UPDATE:
It happened with a USB cable plugged into a laptop today. What's weird is that I've used this cable with this laptop about a dozen times before (it's only a few weeks old), but it hasn't triggered the effect in it before.
There could be some kind of connection to heavily using the phone while it's charging, or right before charging it, as several of the times that this has triggered, I've been recently using my phone heavily (thus why it needed charging).
For example, the other times I charged my phone (using the same cable and laptop), I'd only been topping it up, or charging it at the end of the day.
### UPDATE 2:
Today I got a brand new Samsung Galaxy S5 for use at work. It came with a brand new charger and brand new cable too.
Last night I plugged the new charger into the same wall socket as my old one usually goes in (it was in my luggage), with the new cable, and charged my Nexus 5. Today, I noticed the tint was coming back very slightly, but didn't realize why. When I charged my phone this evening, and it was 100% blurry and tinted, I realized.
Everything about the actual charger is identical, except the S/N (Serial Number), and the country of manufacturing.
Comparison:
If we assume that the chargers are the same (it was plugged into the same wall socket), then that must mean that the cable is what's doing it to the phone, since the cables are very different.
The new one has the text:
E321011 ЯJ AWM STYLE 21104 80°C 30V VW-1 23AWG*2C LUXSHARE-ICT NON-PVC
The old one has the text:
E102671-0 ЯJ AWM 21445 80°C 30V VW-1 23AWG*2C 30AWG*2C KAYANG HX NT NON-PVC NON-P
### UPDATE 3:
Using my good charger base with the new cable didn't cause any problems.
Using my new charger base with the good cable __________. (testing now)

Device name:
It has more screens as you swipe right on this. Through the edit Quick Settings options, other options like Airplane Mode, Bluetooth, Torch & other icons can be added or removed from the Quick Settings panel.
However, the Big Fat Display Adjustment Icon doesn't seem to be removable. This is a huge problem because if your hand accidently touches it at the wrong point, you may end up making your display brightness zero and after that it's very difficult to adjust it back higher because you can't see anything.
Is there a way to not have this big one in the Quick Settings?
UPDATE: Looks like this is an Android 14 feature, rather than something specific to the Narzo. I found someone complaining about it but for other reasons.

Got a new Samsung Galaxy A55 5G running Android 14, One UI 6.1, and discovered (among other modern horrors) that the brightness bar control is wildly logarithmic.
This means that being on like 10% of the bar puts you at 50% brightness (and in my opinion is already way too bright). It makes it extremely difficult to adjust brightness however I want to.
Before I go and make myself a widget to handle this myself, are there any known ways of managing brightness linearly?

There are some applications which provide ability (without root) to lower the brightness beyond the (default) limit.
So, I want to know does it really save battery? In other words, does it affect battery consumption comparatively to default minimum limit?
Btw, I'm also interested to know *how does such application do this task if going beyond limit?*
And is there any command-tool related to settings brightness level?

Is it possible to increment the *minimum brightness* level?
I checked other old answers regarding this issue and seems they don't apply to this one:
I accidentally slid the brightness to minimum and I couldn't use the phone again! Just had to wipe all my data to recover from this state.
Checking the slider carefully now, it seems it goes "shut down" at about 5%, and that's very dangerous.
Any help is appreciated!

Any mechanism that **doesn’t require seeing the display** would be good. When I’m outside under sun and the phone brightness is at low level, I simply can’t recognize anything. The only currently feasible way is to remember where the slider will show up and operate it blindly. Better would be if it could be done by using
* the hardware buttons,
* swipe gestures,
* motion-based gestures or
* voice recognition
to name a few examples. It only needs to **set brightness to maximum** as any finer adjustment can be done using the slider as a subsequent step.
This question might be related to https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/201822/make-screen-brighter-when-phone-is-raised though (given that the question didn’t receive any response in the 4 years) I’m making the requirement broader (not limited to “raising the screen”) in the hope there might be a solution with a different approach.
The phone in question is Google Pixel (2016, upgraded to Android 10).

I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S which has the following behaviour: it works normally until the moment it goes under the sun, then (apparently only) the backlight of the screen is turned off and never turns on again until I restart the smartphone, where it works normally until the very moment it "detects" a bright light like under the sun, then the screen goes black. When this happens, sometimes you can still see the shape of what was on screen, but most times it only goes totally black.
When the screen is black, the telephone keeps working normally (music keeps being played, receives calls, vibration responses keep working, etc...(confirmed it using scrcpy and all is working normally)), only that the backlight is turned off and it keeps totally black. During the night, i.e. with artificial light, the telephone works normally (I was able to replicate the error using a strong flashlight above the telephone, the screen also went black the very moment I turned it on).
What I tried to resolve: restarted many times, disabled every auto brightness (also one that I think is a Xiaomi MIUI only, sunlight detector, something like this) settings that are in the configuration menu, restarted using vol up + power button. Factory reseted the smartphone. Disabled pocket mode before and after factory reset.
Any idea how to proceed? What is killing me is that it seem to be a software issue, like, why the screen don't turn on back after a while, but every time you restart it, or why the phone works all night long (i.e. there no strong light on it)?
How to capture the telephone log (logcat perhaps?) and be sure of what is the exact event that is disabling screen? Maybe I can manipulate it to prevent from happening, or to make screen goes back to normal after a while, as I work as a software developer.

I have created a macro as follows but it does not work: when I press volume button's long press the brightness does not change from 0 to 100.
More information:
- I am able to set the brightness to 100% outside of "if-clause" in Macrodroid.
- "Volume Down -Long press" works without problem as a trigger with other macros (if any).
- I have tested with or without option, "Alternative Android 9+ mode".
- The android version of the device is 12.
- I also tested with the option "Brightness Less than 1%" in "if-clause" without success.

I'm using Pocophone with a custom ROM Android 11. And I have Root access with Magisk 24. So I can do pretty much anything.

Following this XDA thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/themes-apps/mod-lower-auto-brightness-levels-to-t1235212 I've discovered where to change the auto brightness (the framework-res.apk) but wondered if anyone knew where the other brightness settings were stored?
Obviously I'm rooted and fully prepared to decompile system apks!
Cheers.

I want to reduce the minumum brightness of the screen of my Toshiba Excite Pro tablet. This is a tablet which (as far as I can tell) is essentially impossible to root, but I want to change the brightness of the screen, the value of which is stored in a file in the /sys/ directory of the tablet's filesystem. I want to change the value stored in this file from "35", to, say "10". Is there any way I can do this? For example:
- a way of temporarily getting permissions to alter this file without fully rooting the device
- an app which does not require root which reduces brightness beyond the default minimum
- or if there is, indeed a way to root this device now, that would be good.
Note: I'm not looking for an app which will put a filter over the screen to darken it; I want to turn down the screen as it's the biggest consumer of energy and I want to increase battery life.
Edit: I want to change this file as 35 is the *minimum* screen brightness. The system settings for some reason have a very narrow range of allowed brightnesses.

I just got a Samsung Galaxy S9 last week and since day 1 it has been applying a blue light filter even though I turned blue light filter off in the settings (Blue Light Filter turned off and also schedule turned off under Settings/Display/Blue light filter).
The blue light filter's behavior is strange. The filter turns on around 6:56 every evening and turns off around 5:56 in the morning. Sometimes when I unlock my phone the filter isn't applied and a split second later I see it get applied. Even less often I see it applied in blocks quickly filling the screen. If I turn blue light filtering on in Display settings, the affect is additive.
When I got the phone all of the applications from my previous phone, a OnePlus 3, were installed, so I supposed it could have been one of those. I went into application permissions and turned off overlay permission (Settings/Apps/Special Access/Apps that can appear on top) to everything I thought might be affecting the screen color.
What else can I look into? Is there a way to check every process that's running to see what is changing the screen color?
