I had a tablet (Alcatel U3A_7_WIFI running Android Go) working alright. In order to root it, first I made (what I thought was) a full backup with mtkclient :
python mtk.py rl ./backup
After the rooting went wrong, I tried to flash a stock ROM (with SP Flash tool). Found many variants for that model and they all work perfectly while doing black and white output.
But as soon as colors are involved I get this stripe pattern (and bluish colors):
The battery indicator shown when charging, has the same color problem, so I think it has to be something happening at a very early stage.
Does anybody know how to solve it? Or what could be wrong?
I tried flashing individual partitions with

mtkclient
from the backup I had (no way to flash the whole thing back, as far as I know). But half of the time this bricks the tablet (just BROM mode) and the other half nothing changes. Colors are still the same, bluish and striped.

Color temp changes depending on content
I have a OnePlus 6 and recently (past few months) I've noticed the color temp changing between a "warm" white and a more "pure" (not the bluish "cool") white. You can't see it in the screenshots (because the phone doesn't see the difference), but I get the yellower temp with [

I have no idea where to turn with this, but I am worried that malware or other misbehaving software is causing a color distortion. The story is:
- my phone, a Moto G5 Plus, at some point lost the ability to show the color yellow, rendering it instead as a sickly green. The screen overall lost a bit of "spark", becoming washed out and dull. It was an old phone, and I decided to live with something I was pretty sure was a (rare, since I found no similar stories on the net) hardware issue.
- I then upgraded to a Mate 20 Pro, which surprisingly showed the same thing. Since it was new, I returned it to the shop for repairs, and brought my old phone back to life. The repairs took long enough that I managed to break my old phone's screen, order a new one, and replace it. To my surprise, yellow was still missing after I changed the display.
- I finally got my new phone back, after a display change and factory reset, and now it's all good.
Thoughts:
- it seems very unlikely to me that the same obscure hardware error would occur to me twice.
- especially since the display technologies are very different, LCD vs AMOLED.
- the Mate was updated with all the magic of Android, so a number of apps and potentially data were automatically installed/transferred.
- after I got the Mate the second time, I accidentally logged in with the wrong account, so no automatic installation/recovery was performed.
It sounds unlikely, but is there malware or flawed software that could cause this? Something that were transferred with in the recovery process the first time? And if so, where can I report it? Can anybody find accounts of similar experiences? If it is a hardware fault, does it have a plausible explanation (it seems all of R,G, and B, are mostly intact, it's only yellow that turns green).

Black status bar icon on Marshmallow making it unreadable on dark wallpaper

Even though the title enunciates the problem, the question is about a solution or workaround to this behaviour.
As I have found, Marshmallow normally colors the status bar icons (Wi-Fi, Battery, Clock) on the launcher (home screens) by taking the colour of the topmost region of the wallpaper currently set and tinting the icons to a darker version of it.
This is all well and good if you have the sky there in your wallpaper, or something light-coloured; but if you have a night-time cityscape as your wallpaper, it colours the icons to be "Darker Than Black" (pun intended). So, magically, your Wi-Fi, Battery, Clock and everything else just disappears from the status bar. Only they haven't disappeared. Set a light wallpaper or a dark one with the top region light, and they're back.
I don't think that this is a problem with the launcher, as I use both Nova Prime and Google Now Launcher, and both have this problem. I also checked the System UI Tuner options for such settings relating to this tinting mechanism, and they're nonexistent (The settings there include what statusbar icons and quick settings tiles to show, battery icon customization, demo mode, and that's it).
I know of 3 possible workarounds to prevent this behaviour:
1. Disable Nova Launcher's transparent statusbar option under "Look and Feel", but I don't want to do that.
2. Use Xposed+FSCB (Flat Style Colored Bars) or similar. Well, Xposed on Lollipop 32-bit was unstable. Marshmallow ARM64? (I really have no idea, but I'm definitely not willing to take the risk.
3. This was a no-brainer. Use a light wallpaper. (Well, then I wouldn't have asked this question, would I?)
The question is: "Can I have the best of both worlds (i.e., my dark nighttime cityscapes as wallpapers and visible statusbar icons)?"
The solutions I'll prefer can involve root but not Xposed, and not 1 or 3 above. Also, it's preferable if the solution tints the icons to white on a dark wallpaper but preserves the stock behaviour otherwise, and doesn't affect apps other than the launcher, because my problem doesn't affect apps other than the launcher.

I always used to have a dark or black Quick Settings (the swipe down menu) but since Android , it's white. And I can't find out how to change it. Invert Colors is not an option, as that messes up *all* colors on my phone whereas I only want to change the Quick Settings.
When searching on this problem I did find several apps (some of which even require root) to change the theme, but I can't imagine something so trivial really requires a custom app or even root.
Using Oreo 8.1 stock Android with all latest updates, no root.
-------
Upon further searching, I found a partial solution: apparently if you set a "dark" wallpaper for your Home screen, it will automatically show the Quick Settings menu in dark instead of white.
Beats me why this can't just be customised manually, but for your reference: for example with the wallpaper below, I get a dark Quick Settings menu on Oreo 8.1 instead of white.
" class="img-fluid rounded" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto; margin: 10px 0;" loading="lazy">
No clue what the criteria may be for a wallpaper to be "dark enough".
If there is a definitive solution I'd still love to find out!

Force Android to display in grayscale
Is there a way to force all of Android to display in monochrome(also known as grayscale)? I'm working with a someone who has ADHD (and I am mildly ADHD myself). The colors are too much for him/her to handle. EDIT: Ideally I'm looking to create an easy way to toggle such a setting.

I just updated to Oreo 8.1 from 8.0 and I notice that the lock screen has the same image as before, but with a red tint over it, like a layer of pure red with opacity 20% had been overlaid on top of it.
I never got that in 8.0 or earlier.
I thought it was due to a certificate from AdGuard and the resulting "Your network may be monitored", so I uninstalled the certificate, but the warning disappeared while the tint stayed (I have to say I haven't rebooted the phone without certificate).
I didn't change any setting about system colours, and in fact the rest of the apps and system show the usual colours, only the lock screen changed.
What are the possible causes of the red tint in the lockscreen in Oreo 8.1?

To set a black or solid color wallpaper on an Android device, one can use a tiny 1x1 pixel image with the pixel set to that color. This works on most Android devices (including Nexus devices and others that run stock Android). The system knows how to fill the entire screen with that one pixel, giving you a full solid color wallpaper.
However, there are some Android devices that give an error immediately after setting the 1x1 pixel image wallpaper:
- *Unfortunately, System UI has stopped.*
- *Unfortunately, Home has stopped.*
Trying slightly larger image sizes (2x2, 3x3, 4x4) also fails.
I just created an open source Android app to test this issue: Minimum Wallpaper . Its source code is available on GitHub .
So far I have a report with screenshot that on Allview P8 Energy the minimum wallpaper size that works is 32x32. From another project I'm involved in, I have some information that a 1x1 wallpaper also fails on devices such as:
- LG: G5, Stylus 2
- Meizu: m1 note, m2 note, MX5, Pro 6
My questions:
1. What could be a reasonable reason that (only) some devices are giving errors after setting a 1x1 pixel wallpaper?
2. What could be the minimum "safe" wallpaper size that should reasonable work on all Android devices?
