Also, it seems I can not install new apps directly onto the SD card. So I am trying to delete as much data as possible from the existing apps. I am considering deleting all data from the Google app, but I am concerned it may be linked in some way to the Chrome app, and I do not want to lose my Chrome bookmarks or any IDs/passwords I have in Chrome. Will deleting all data from Google affect in any way anything I have in Chrome?

A long time ago, I opted to watch the scores for one game on my phone. It allowed itself to draw over other apps, and was cool. I want to turn this feature off, but I can't find anywhere to do so. Reportedly, it's from the Google app itself. I have denied the permissions, but every time there is a game on, I get the following popup (typed for ease of searching): > Update your device settings > > Pinned matches lets you follow sports games and scores even while you > are using other apps. Turn on permit for drawing over other apps How do I get this to stop popping up without allowing the scores to stay on? In case it matters: Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G (SM-G781W), running Android 13.

I have a personal Gmail (Google) account created some years back for my Android phone. Recently I have been given access to a new Gmail account by my employer. When I open the Gmail or Gdrive apps they both show the two accounts and allow me to easily switch between them (Gmail has a useful combined *All inboxes* option too). So far, so good. However if I open a mail sent by my employer to my work Gmail account and click on the *Save to Drive* icon on the attached PDF, the pop-up dialog box allows me to save the attachment only to my personal Gdrive account; it doesn't list my work Gdrive account at all. So how do I directly save an attachment from my work Gmail to my work Gdrive? <img src=" class="img-fluid rounded" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto; margin: 10px 0;" loading="lazy">

Memory on my phone was low, so I went to the apps and deinstalled some. Among these apps was “Google—A handy search for underway”, and since I also have Firefox, I decided that I don’t need the Google search, so I deinstalled it. And it worked, the app got deinstalled. But it was not only a search app, it was the whole home screen app, so my home screen didn’t show up anymore, and I could only switch the phone off. I booted it again, and now it shows the “Android is starting”, subtitle “Apps are starting”. This takes about 30 minutes now. I did not root my phone or do anything else, and still I could deinstall the Google app. How can I get my phone working again?

I was removing various Google services from it with adb and as a result, WhatsApp is the only app that doesn't work - it crashes instantly on any interaction. My fault is that I don't remember all the services I uninstalled, but here are some: gsf, gms, gmsconfig.asi, gmsconfig.gsa, gmsconfig.comms, and more. Which Google services does WhatsApp depend on? Maybe I would just sideload them for the time I plan to use WhatsApp.

I use lots of Google apps (Google Play Store, Gmail, Calendar, Photos, Music, Google search, Translate, Keep etc.). But, I am fine with installing them one by one, from Google Play store. So, I prefer a minimalist version so that, I don't need to keep anything that I don't use. Therefore, my first thought was Pico Gapps. But, this version does not include offline speech recognition files. Can these be installed later from the google store? Or, if I want to be able to use the "ok google" voice command, do I need to install Nano Gapps? Also, are there any other obstacles I am not aware of? I want to be able to install anything else from the play store (and not to be forced to flash anything later).

When I was playing with settings on my Nokia 6.1 Plus running a stock ROM Android 10 with bootloader unlocked and rooted with Magisk v21+, I noticed that **Firebase App Indexing** that comes under **Google Account Preferences** was collecting all of my *personal* data. Of course, **GMS** was the culprit. Here's the proof: This was the message that I received from the bank for the transaction that I made yesterday. Image Every message that I sent and received had been collected in this given format. Also, many apps that use Firebase API sent these kinds of information. I'm a guy who thinks about user privacy all-day, so I've used: - [Nuked_Script](https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-tool-atteryerformancerivacy-t4131715) Magisk script that is used to disable trackers and ad services. - AFWall+ for Firewall (root). - Bouncer - Temporary App Permissions. - AdAway for nullifying ads (root) - ads on Gmail, Twitter, Instagram still exist though - Bromite webview and browser (Webview Switcher module). When I turned the developer options off, Firebase App Indexing options also turned off (_I mean **hidden**_). So, does it mean that it stopped collecting my data? I still doubt that. How can I stop this from happening? P.S: I'm used to using Google Apps. But I don't want to give them such personal data.

I've got a Motorola Moto G4. Bootloader unlocked, TWRP installed, LineageOS installed, Open Gapps installed, non-rooted. Been using it for about a year. I want to try [LineageOS for microG](https://lineage.microg.org/) . I want to keep my current data/apps (including some end-user Google apps like their PDF viewer) as much as possible and migrate to microG, removing only the "core" Google stuff a user doesn't generally care about directly that will be replaced by microG. So, I'm following the dirty install process. --- I have none of the listed apps installed. I have tried removing Open Gapps, but it doesn't seem to work. Using the aroma installer to choose settings until the config at the end is "Include" with *no* apps listed, some Google apps are still installed (notably, the Play Store) after rebooting. The Open Gapps installer process also mentions removing existing/obsolete apps for only a short time, then moves to the next step "installing Gapps" which takes a long time. This seems to contradict the settings I gave it, namely to leave none installed, but is consistent with the fact that they don't seem to get uninstalled. I have also flashed https://github.com/CHEF-KOCH/Remove-Gapps to try to get rid of them, but some Gapps (like the Play Store) still survive. --- After any combination of attempts to follow the instructions and remove the Gapps, I flash the key migration zip followed by the lineage-microG.zip for my device (athene). I also make sure to wipe the Dalvik and cache partitions before rebooting. After all this, every time I reboot, my system is almost *exactly* like it was before I did anything: Google services installed (though the Play Store does not actually work, it's still there), the microG settings app is not installed, etc. A few things are broken (some notifications of apps crashing) but overall nothing noteworthy has happened. I've resorted to even wiping /system before a migration attempt, but even this achieves nothing. --- I got a partial success once by manually going through /system/app, /system/priv-app, and /data/app and removing anything that looked Google-y, then performing the migration. Upon rebooting, the microG settings app was present and the self-check section looked like it should look on a clean install, but the Play Store was still present. I don't know to what extent this migration was a success. I'm not familiar with the Android/Google ecosystem's insides and app politics, just the userland, so when I'm manually going around deleting files, I have little knowledge of what I'm doing, so I don't consider this attempt a success. --- Now that all the info has been laid out, could someone please help me cleanly perform the migration to lineage-microG, without excessive butchering of my system or leaving things that should not be left? Why does the dirty install procedure laid out by the lineage-microG team fail? Why do the Gapps removal tools fail? What exactly is necessary to correctly and cleanly migrate lineage to lineage-microG?

When I first open Maps, I see a Search bar at the top where I can type in a place to go, I can click on the default quick-searches (Coffee, Restaurants, etc.), or I can just scroll on the map to look around. But if I start going deeper, e.g., looking at photos from restaurants, at one point I have to close a bunch of screens using a combination of back arrows, X's, and down-arrows to get back to the start screen. I know they added a magnifying glass search icon on some screens to quickly search for another place, but then I miss out on scrolling around with access to the default quick-searches. Besides killing the app and reopening, **is their another way to quickly (with one tap) get back to the start screen?** I've started to use Google Maps Go so I can open that and get to its start screen once, but after that it's the same problem. --- (Mini rant: I find this particularly frustrating because a Go Home feature would be immensely useful in many Android apps, yet it basically doesn't exist as far as I can tell. But on websites, where it is almost completely useless, there's usually a pointless "Home" button.)

I have flashed a lineage OS 18.1 custom ROM on my Samsung A30 device. I am able to boot into the system successfully. However, I am facing issues while flashing Open Gapps. I have followed below steps: 1. Flashed Lineage OS 18.1 (lineage-18.1-20220414-UNOFFICIAL-arm64_bvS.img.xz) using TWRP recovery. (selected System Image) 2. Booted into the system. 3. Enabled 'USB Debugging' in developer options. 4. Turned off the device. 5. Booted into Recovery mode (TWRP) 6. Install > Install Zip > OpenGapps.zip 7. Got the error code 70 (insufficient space) 8. Again went back to home screen of TWRP 9. Wipe > Selected 'System' > Advanced Wipe > Resize File System. 10. Got this error - /sbin/e2fsck -fp /dev/block/mmcblk0p25 process ended with ERROR: 4 Unable to repair system 11. Tried changing file system of 'System' to EXT2 and then back EXT4. [I am little bit skeptical of this step, since I feel this would wipe out the entire partition (owing to my experience in installing Arch Linux, where the user should format a file in ext4 partition for /home). Nevertheless, I followed this because it was mentioned in of the forums] 12. Boot into system. Now the device is stuck in boot loop. I am not quite sure, where I am going wrong. I am using TWRP 3.3.1-0. Any help is greatly appreciated.

A friend of mine just asked me a nice question: His (stock) Samsung Galaxy S4's Youtube is draining his battery. He said, that he hasn't been in the app today, and this morning he had the phone booting up. Now, Youtube drained 51% of his battery. I know, there are many possibilities, to "solve" this, like: - Rebooting the Phone to get rid of the wakelock - Terminating the Youtube-app via the Settings -> Apps menue - Clearing Cache/Deleting Data - Uninstalling Updates and deactivating the app But **besides** these workarounds: Is there any fix for this issue? What could one do, if he'd have to terminate the app everytimes he boots up his phone? Is there even something to do? **/NOTE** We try to achieve a better information about what exactly in the YT-app causes the battery drain using Better Battery Stats. Stats will follow.

I wanted to install OpenGApps in an Android emulator (created in Android Studio). The emulator is running with Marshmallow. There is enough storage space available, so this is not the problem. I tried everything which I found on Google, but it just wont work. While the emulator is booting up, and I keep spamming adb remount, first it shows remount succeeded, and just after the desktop shows up, it suddenly says remount of /system failed: Read-only file system and remount failed. So it doesn't work either when I try to push an OpenGApp .apk using adb push. If I try after booting up, it says: adb: error: failed to copy 'Phonesky.apk' to '/system/priv-app/Phonesky.apk': Read-only file system (or whatever the .apk is). I can't remount /system with rw either: When I make the following: $ adb shell > *some remount command* Following shows up: mount: Read-only file system. I tried it with various commands (substitute one of them with *some remount command*, the output is always the same): * mount -o rw,remount /system * mount -o rw,remount /system /system * mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/vba /system * mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock0 /system * mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock0 /system I also tried to run su after adb shell, but it had no effect either. I also tried to remount rootfs to / first with rw. This worked without an issue, but the remount for /system gave the same error as without remounting rootfs. Could anyone help me with this struggle? **Edit 1**: I also tried it with various different emulator settings, it didn't change a thing either. So I guess this problem is not depending on the emulator itself... **Please note**: A bounty was offered to resolve this question, but I don't have much time for this at the moment. I would be grateful if you would ping me on twitter if an answer worked for you, so I can eventually accept it after I have tried it by myself. But this would save me a lot of time. Thanks
