Has Google Maps stopped displaying proper geodesics?

In these two images, I measure the distance Washington D.C., the US–Kyiv, Ukraine. As clearly seen, Google Maps on the Android phone does not show a correct geodesic. For example, the true geodesic goes north of the British Isles and cuts through northern Scania, Sweden. The Google Maps “geodesic” cuts through France, southern Germany and southern Poland. Obviously this is not a true geodesic on a spherical Earth. However, the distance seems to be correct (~7800 km). This implies the distance calculation is using the correct formulas. Is there an option in the Google Maps Android app that lets me see proper geodesics again? Geodesic on Google Earth

Unfortunately, I lost my phone yesterday, it was Samsung S24 Ultra phone. I had enabled all the safety features on the device for both Google (Find Device) and Samsung's own tracking service. However, the thief has turned the device off and it has not been switched on since, not even without network, wifi, or SIM. I had enabled the "find my device even when offline" settings; however, even this setting would require the device to be at least switched on. I am now trying to recover the Google Maps timeline using another device, but I am encountering this message: **For security, you can no longer access your encrypted data on this device. Try again using a device that you've recently used to sign in to your Google Account.** **Visit g.co/OnDeviceEncryption to learn more.** An important piece of information — I promptly changed my Google account password after the theft (I still know both the old and the new passwords). I even tried changing it back to the old password, thinking that the encryption might be tied to it, but I am still seeing the same error message. How do I get past this screen and regain access to my data? Needless to say, I am extremely upset not just because of losing an expensive device, but also because I am at risk of losing access to over two decades of my maps timeline history. Any help will be appreciated. <img src=" class="img-fluid rounded" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto; margin: 10px 0;" loading="lazy">

I must have accidentally used another one a few times, and now I keep getting notifications about it, should I do some more reviews and whatever. I've tried time and again and never managed to come any close to disabling Maps for some specific accounts without removing the account altogether from the phone Is there a way?

**TL;DR:** With two Android phones, how do I get arrival & departure location sharing notifications on my backup device, instead of the primary device? ---------- I have a primary and a backup Android phone. Recently, the primary one developed an issue with the display, rendering it mostly unusable, except with screen projection utilities (e.g. AirDroid and scrcpy). As a result, I switched to using the backup phone. Over the last couple of days, I noticed that Google Maps was still sending notifications of arrival & departure (notification channel: *Google location sharing (friends)*) to my now unusable primary device. After searching the internet, I found [this answer](https://support.google.com/maps/thread/286527280?hl=en&msgid=286627449) , which essentially requires me to sign out of my Google account on the primary phone. This solution is untenable for me, as I intend to repair and return to using the primary device in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, however, I still want to receive notifications on the backup device. How do I achieve this? Here are the things I've tried which didn't yield the expected result: * Fully disabled location sharing on the primary phone * Disabled all Google Maps notifications on the primary phone * Cleared data and disabled Google maps on the primary phone * Disabled & re-enabled location sharing on the backup phone

I have a Pixel 4XL on Android 12. I would like to get in my car and have one app that controls my hands-free texting and music like Android Auto used to. Google Maps navigation mode has the ability to do this, but only when I enter a destination. With a destination, it is great. Exactly what I need. But unless I enter my destination every single time, it doesn't work safely. I am aware that I can put a widget that enters drive/navigation mode when pressed and have added that widget. However, it still requires me to enter a destination before it will control text and music. If I simply leave it w/o a destination there is text control but no music control. Is there a way for Maps-Driving mode to show me my map, have the music control at the bottom, and control texting without having to enter a destination every single time?

There are other times though that Google Maps says my phone was "Moving" but doesn't say where it started, where it finished, or offer an explanation. Furthermore, I don't recall going anywhere at those times. What is wrong? What does "Moving" mean to Google (does it mean moving a few feet, does it mean changing WiFi networks, does it mean connecting to a different cell tower)?

This is very annoying and refuses to change no matter how much i change the TTS settings and delete the English(India) voice. It just redownloads and speaks in that voice. It is just fine English (US) on a Moto X I also bought in India (App not Updated). So my questions: a) Is this a "feature"? b) How do I fix it? I would like the English(US) Google TTS voice to work.

Why would Google maps timeline be accurate with your places traveled majority of the time but it's always a visit that makes no sense
Location history is filling in places traveled all by itself showing this trip was taken here and I was at home all day or shows I was at a place overnight when I wasn't even there at all which was 4 miles from my house

This is confusing: I feel that I never know where I am. **Is there a way to force north to stay up?
