Is there a way to generate a cell signal heat map using my android phone?

I don't know if it's by design to keep you from using a competitors app, or if there is just no good standard for geo data in Android, but I needed some 3rd party app to convert the geo data for me. I used Map2Geo (
catfish.android.map2geo
) plus the 'url injector' (catfish.android.map2geo.urlinjector
) by Catfish for that. For a while life was uncomplicated. Then, Map2Geo got removed from the Play Store, even though it looks clean . There is a mirror with the original description , but I don't trust unofficial sources.
Now I have become increasingly frustrated not being able to do simple things that I know are technically possible. I have searched everywhere for an alternative method of achieving something that could be called "universal sharing of geo data between apps". I can't even find others asking the same question. Am I missing something obvious? Is there a trick, plugin, hack or a tool similar to map2geo that does the conversion between apps locally?

I have a stalled project that I would like to give a new try.
It is about to read large amount of map data from sqlite using C code. I do not understand what options I have after the scooped storage constraints in Android. I need a very performant access to the sqlite db, and I need to read it from C code.
It is working on Android 10 by just reading from a map I call TilelessMap on the phone.
So, my question is if there are any good ways to get access to an sqlite database that is not constrained and deleted with a special app. The solution must also work on unrooted phone.
I will also give a short description about the project. It is open source and more or less what I have lives here: https://gitlab.com/nicklasaven/tilelessmap
It is about rendering data from a special map data format I have called twkb (tiny well known binary). The idea is to read all data directly fom the database for each pan/zoom avoiding any caching complexity. It works very well. A have 1:50000 maps (most detailed free maps) of Sweden and Norway in my phone. It is a few GB. But that is the reason I do not want to store it in app specific area of the phone. A reinstall of the app should not mean you need to get all the map data again. I also plan to put all sync work of the database in a separate app. Then the map app is totally offline, which I think is a feature.
What makes this solution fast in rendering is 2 things.
1) coordinates to be rendered is decoded from twkb directly into C arrays and pushed to the GPU. No objects or complex structures on the way
2) The triangulation information for polygons is baked into the format. So there is an array with indexes ready for use that defines for the gpu how to render the triangles. So there is no client processing in run time to create the triangles.
Sorry for the long text, but I would really appreciate any hints about if shared storage used like this is possible nowadays in Android. Trying to read the docs is quite confusing for a non Android developer.

The Google Maps app does not store maps reliably, so it is risky to rely on it without an Internet connection.

Other (more modern) apps use Sensor.TYPE_ROTATION_VECTOR
however and according to [the Android documentation](https://source.android.com/docs/core/interaction/sensors/sensor-types#rotation_vector) , this combines data from the orientation sensors aswell as the magnetic field sensor.
How can I disable the magnetic field sensor entirely or prevent Android from using its data for Sensor.TYPE_ROTATION_VECTOR
?

I have a regular route for which I have two options through two highways. The two options are very close in terms of distance and time. But, when using the Google Map application, it usually gives me only one of these options, and unfortunately, it is not the one I prefer. What's worse, the app does not show the driving conditions on the other one, so I can't see if there is a delay or something, and driving from the other way is kind of a "leap of faith".
On the desktop, Google Maps website, I can add a waypoint on whatever route I chose using the mouse. But I could not find a way for doing that on the phone. I know I can add a destination, but this needs to be a specific address or location. I want to simply point at a point on the highway and get the route to go through that point. (Another thing is to add the point after the trip started. You need to stop the car to enter the new waypoint as a full search)
**Is there a way to add a waypoint by tapping (or another gesture) on the map?**
Note: I found this related question , but the answers seem to assume a preliminary preparation of the route.

I have a Xiaomi Redmi 10C running Android 12 SKQ1.211103.001 and MIUI Global version 13.0.0 Stable. I bought it new in Malaysia about 8 months ago in early/mid 2022.
This phone does not have a built-in compass, neither did my two previous phones, both also Redmi phones that did not have this problem.
The problem is that map apps including MapsME and Google Maps started pointing the arrow indicating my position in the wrong direction after I'd had the phone for roughly three months.
In this screenshot I'm actually walking towards the destination marked by the flag. But the phone thinks I'm facing the other way so mainly shows the area behind me, making it look like it's in front of me:
At first I only noticed it pointing backwards, exactly 180° opposite the direction I was facing and moving. But later I noticed it would also sometimes be 90° to the left or right. Initially I thought it was a bug in MapsME which I use most of the time, but it definitely happens just as often in Google Maps.
Is this a known bug with Android, or with Xiaomi or Redmi phones? Maybe a regression on Android phones without compass as this never happened on my previous Redmi phones without compass running older Android versions.
I've tried to search for this problem using various wordings and failed to find anything similar to my problem, so I turn to the Android experts here.

I'm trying to record way points to locate features in open areas. Ideally, I'd use an app like GPS Waypoints, where the waypoints can be tabulated and exported. However, I've done a bit of testing and it seems like Google Maps can achieve better accuracy. Is that because it 'snaps' your location to features on the map (e.g. road)? Does is use location data more effectively than other apps (by incorporating wifi signals etc)? Or is location calculated by the operating system (android), and all apps simply use that (meaning all apps should have the same accuracy)? Thanks!

I am using RMaps Ext (a rmaps mod) on Android, browsing offline maps created using Mobile Atlas Creator (MOBAC). It's working great so far.
The only problem is that when browsing offline satellite maps the zoom level is fixed to the tile layers I chose to download on MOBAC.
But I was wondering since I have already downloaded more detail satellite maps, e.g. zoom level 16, in theory I could browse zoom level 15, 14 to level 10. You just need some fast algorithm to zoom out a big image.
e.g.
- The level 16 zoom file size is 80MB
- The level 10-16 zoom file size is 120MB
So could the zoom out scaling be done on Android using the 80MB file directly?
It will save a lot of storage space (but spend more on CPU with image resizing)
Thanks in advance!

Google maps has recently introduced speed camera notifications, and I had the misfortune of experiencing these for the first time yesterday.
Personally I find the audio "speed camera ahead" very annoying and distracting, and would like to disable it. I don't mind the little beep or the icon on the map, but I'm also quite happy to lose them if it means getting rid of the spoken announcement.
However much I search, I can't find an option to remove this, or any information on the internet about disabling this. Is it possible?

My Google Location history is amazingly helpful and informative, and generally accurate. I have all settings set to highest so I can always get the best location accuracy. I've read several posts about how Google estimates my location, using cell towers, wifi SSIDs/BSSIDs, etc and it all makes sense. But when I go on my daily hike, the accuracy is 'way off' by a few miles. I take photos on my hike and their Geo-location tagging is accurate to within a few feet, so I know the location information is available with GPS.
The following screen shot gives an example. The red line was drawn by me and represents my hike. The blue lines are the estimation by Google Location. My hike follows a ridgeline that surrounds a residential neighborhood. Obviously, my phone's location sensor is latching onto either cell-towers or wifi access points in the neighborhood.
Is there any way I can tell my phone to use GPS to report location, rather than wifi or cell tower, during a hike? If I launch google maps during the hike, will that cause my accuracy to improve? I often take photos at various locations along the hike (and these are accurately geo-tagged) but this doesn't seem to help the location map below. I did notice that, if I use a 'hiking app' such as 'map my walk' or 'strava', the location as reported to Google is very accurate. So do I need to launch 'any app that uses GPS' to make the GPS location available to Google?
Also, I've read that I can click on 'blue dots' on the map to see where it's getting the location information from, but I see no blue dots no matter how much I zoom in.
Thanks!

I've tried to install Here Maps on my phone (a Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus) and I've not been able to make it work.
The maps are not displayed at all, all I can see is a blank screen. If I try to zoom out, I will eventually see the whole globe, but just as a blue sphere, without any feature.
The strange thing is that if I try to search for a place I can get the pinpoint indicator, supposedly at the right coordinates, but, again, no map is displayed. It seems that some kind of data is accessible but the graphical part isn't working.
I have also tried to download the maps for offline usage, but when I try to do it all I get is the message "could not download initial data", and I'm even unable to see a list of the maps available for download. That same thing happen when I try to download voices, I get the same error and nothing is downloaded or even displayed.
Does someone else has experienced the sane issue? How can I solve this and make this app work correctly?

On my old S6 I used to be able to enter a location in Google Maps, click the 'share' button, then click an option 'copy to clipboard.' This would copy a goo.gl link to the clipboard that I could then easily paste into messages.
On the S9+ this is no longer available. This is a problem.
I send anywhere from 50-100 text messages per day to my staff and each one has a Google Maps link... I can no longer just copy and paste this link, the only way I can do this is to 'share' the link via SMS to a random contact, cut the link, delete the excess text, then go to the staff SMS, and paste the link. It doesn't sound like much, but over 50 messages it's A LOT of work.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I created a route using **Google Maps** and exported it as a KML file. I would like to import now this KML file into **OsmAnd** so I could check where I am.
So far I found out that it is possible to create a map from a KML file with theOsmAndMapTileCreator program. However, I cannot find one, all I have is OsmAndMapCreator -- and this program does not allow me to import KML in the first place (at least I don't see such option at all). Thus, I cannot prepare a map for OsmAnd (from KML; in general I prepared regular OSM map for OsmAnd using this program).
Since I didn't find any working solution with true off-line KML route imported, I use Google Maps with a pre-loaded route. There is a catch though - if I forget it is cached, and I switch anything in Google Maps I will lose this route when biking. So it is not reliable enough -- just workaround.
The bottom line is -- I have KML file, I have OsmAnd, I would like to import the former into the latter. How do I do it?
