It is unnecessarily difficult to share geo data between apps. Pick a location in one app and share it with your navigation app? Nope. Park the car in maps and send the location to your smart watch? Nope. Apart from a few exceptions, it is all just impossible. I don't know if it's by design to keep you from using a competitors app, or if there is just no good standard for geo data in Android, but I needed some 3rd party app to convert the geo data for me. I used Map2Geo (catfish.android.map2geo) plus the 'url injector' (catfish.android.map2geo.urlinjector) by Catfish for that. For a while life was uncomplicated. Then, Map2Geo got removed from the Play Store, even though it looks clean . There is a mirror with the original description , but I don't trust unofficial sources. Now I have become increasingly frustrated not being able to do simple things that I know are technically possible. I have searched everywhere for an alternative method of achieving something that could be called "universal sharing of geo data between apps". I can't even find others asking the same question. Am I missing something obvious? Is there a trick, plugin, hack or a tool similar to map2geo that does the conversion between apps locally?

It doesn't have to be scalable or anything, I just want to share my location to whoever has the link to the application on my server. This is not a duplicate of https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/2516/alternative-to-google-latitude - I want a self-hosted application (on my own server), not on some non-Google third party server

I have /e/ OS 1.18 installed on my phone. Ever since I've started using /e/ OS, occasionally my phone would pick a semi-random* fixed location and then alternatingly pass on either my real location or the randomly picked one to apps using the location service. *By semi-random I mean that it is usually relatively close to me (generally no further than 100km) and usually in a plausible place (a public road, square, railway station...) but otherwise wholly inexplicable. In the past I had some luck with clearing cache & storage of the System App called Nominatim Geolocator (or similar) – this would fix the problem for a few weeks – but in my current version of /e/ OS I cannot find this app anymore. In the Advanced Privacy settings, I chose to expose my location and IP address, but this did not help. Neither did clearing cache & storage of Advanced Privacy, nor disabling Advanced Privacy as the mock location app via the developer options. What can I do to permanently get rid of this problem?

There's a strange situation with Citymapper, where it doesn't access GPS location directly, but it does if a different app is accessing location at the same time. This hasn't always been the case, but I'm not sure exactly when it started (so, can't say if it's because of a certain update etc.). **Problem details**: - I'm using Citymapper 6.23 on LineageOS 14.1. - The Location permission is for Citymapper is turned on - "Location mode" is set to "Device only" (i.e., GPS only), although I've tried turning "High accuracy" on to test, and it doesn't fix the problem. - I have Privacy Guard enabled on Citymapper, but access to location is allowed, and as before, disabling Privacy Guard for Citymapper doesn't fix the problem. Citymapper "thinks" it's accessing location, but it's not: I say this because when I disable the location marker for the device (screenshot below), Citymapper complains that "Your location is disabled". !location marker for the device When location is on, Citymapper doesn't complain (so, it thinks it's working), but I know it's not accessing the location for three reasons: 1. the location Citymapper shows is incorrect (it shows the last "known" location -- see below for details) 2. the location marker doesn't appear at the top of the screen as it would when an app is using geolocation 3. in the system settings > Location, "Recent location requests" are shown, but Citymapper is not on that list. Further to this, Privacy Guard reports that "Fine location" is being accessed by Citymapper every time I use the app, but it says that GPS was last accessed on 26 December 2017 (Privacy Guard controls separately access to "GPS", "Coarse location" and "Fine location"). **Indirect access**: The weirdest part is that when I open a different application that uses geolocation (in this case, MapFactor Navigator) and the location marker does show up at the top of the screen, the correct location does show up in Citymapper as well (this is my current workaround, and this is how Citymapper gets the last known location I mentioned above). What could be causing this, and how could I go about fixing it? As I've mentioned, it used to work but started having this problem a while back (perhaps around the 26th of December, since that was the last GPS access). I haven't seen this with other apps, but then again, I don't have a lot of apps with location access. **System details**: - Device: Samsung Galaxy S5 Duos (SM-G900FD) - OS: LineageOS 14.1 - Android version: 7.1.2 - The phone is rooted with SuperSU. Note: There's no "Citymapper" tag (and I'm a newbie), so I used the generic "applications" tag. Maybe a senior user can fix this.

I am using Android 9 to debug a location-related application. I set the location via telnet "geo fix", and check via "adb shell dumpsys location" and directly in the app. The problem is network location (gps and passive are always correct). The network location very often points to Google headquarters in San Francisco. The problem occurs when the app switches to running in the background, when it uses an inaccurate location. How to fix it? I am using production emulator (without root).

When I try to share my location in Google Maps on my Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, I get the following error message: screen shot Roughly translated, the error message means "Location sharing is not enabled on this device". Next to it is a link labeled "Beheben", which means "Fix it". When I click on that link, the link is replaced with a spinner for about 1 second, then the "Fix it" link just reappears, and nothing else happens. **Why is Google Maps unable to fix the problem, and how can I fix it myself?** The issue seems somehow related to my Google account, since I *can* share my location when logging in to Maps with another Google account. What I already tried: * Check my Google account settings: Everything there looks fine to me. * "Send feedback" to Google: Done (at least) twice in the last months. No reply. * Ask on the Google community forum. Won't work. (More or less) the same message as in this question here results in *"Failed to post. Content violates Community Policy."*

I'm looking at post processing raw GNSS data from various devices to improve the accuracy of the collected points. We have field staff out collecting points with Zebra TC56 running Android 8.1, Zebra TC57 running Android 10 and a Samsung X Cover Pro running Android 13. Their points have an accuracy of roughly 2-3m which isn't good enough for what we want. So I want to take the raw GNSS data and use RINEX data from the CORSnet to increase the accuracy. Do these devices capture raw GNSS data and store it whenever you use the in-built GNSS receiver, or do you need to tell it to capture the raw data? Do you need to run a third party app to capture the raw GNSS data? Google has the GNSSLogger app but I'm not sure if that runs whilst using another app or do you need the app open. How do I isolate the raw GNSS receiver data to the points in need? It looks like the GNSSLogger app just perpetually runs until you tell it to stop. I understand this is multiple questions in one but I look at it as sub questions for one big question. I can ask them separately if needed.

*Not sure if this is the right place to ask this kind of question, so please let me know if this thread should be moved to another SE board.* ### The problem For about two years now, I keep getting very weird behavior when having my apps query my GPS coordinates: **apps keep locating my phone at a place I haven't lived or been in years**. This belongs all sorts of apps that rely on GPS, starting at Organic Maps, Home Assistant, even Google Maps tends to locate me at that certain location. **The problem only occurs when my phone doesn't find a satellite to acquire accurate GPS coordinates.** ### Some background information - I moved from town X to town Y about 3 years ago - I signed a fresh contract with my internet provider using only my new address (in town Y) - When moving, I had a Galaxy S9 with "stock" Samsung Android installed on it, connected to my Google account which had my old physical address saved. Back then, GPS tracking worked like a charm - at some point after moving, I decided to install /e/OS (for privacy reasons obviously; fork of LineageOS) and get rid of everything connected to Google - I even deleted my Google account and changed my real name and address inside my Google account before deleting it - after installing /e/OS, I used microG to have a *random* Google account (necessary for Google Play Services) for usability reasons - eventually, I decided to buy a new mobile (Galaxy S10e) purging everything and installing /e/OS as well before connecting it to any possible internet account - I bought a new pre-paid cell phone card which is registered with my new address (town Y) So basically, I changed my place of residence, changed mobile phone cards, changed mobile phone, changed internet contract, changed my mobile operating system and purged my Google account (and didn't even once connect it to my current mobile phone), thus my phone should be **unable** to have **any** information about my old flat's address, or is there something I left out here? When moving outside or driving (or being navigated through Organic Maps, for example), apps sometimes locate me at that same location in the beginning, but when getting a good GPS signal, it changes to my real location. It seems like that certain old address from town X is somehow stored in my phone or location history or somewhere else, I just can't figure out where it could possibly be stored. I have no accounts linked with my phone which know any of my addresses, **how is this possible**? I am incredibly grateful for any thought on this, it's driving me crazy. Thanks in advance.

I vaguely remember a post whose author stated that having a global location access setting in an off state does not discharge an antenna and it continues working in a "passive mode". So the only change that is made to device's functioning when turning on the setting is that it allows apps to request high-power consumption geolocation (provided that they have the individual per-app permission). For example, Google Maps. Does that mean that there is no difference in battery power consumption between having it on and off unless you are using an app that requests your geolocation (such as Google Maps)?

The above solutions did not work for me because I was testing on an Android device with the latest Google Play Services version. I'm using a linux laptop, so I cannot use all kinds of apps for PC and Mac which you then connect to your android device with a usb cable. I've also tried using VPN + fakeGPS to the same location - but that didn't work as well. Is there other solution for debian user + android user (pixel 7, latest android version)?

How precisely can an app infer your location from info that is visible with location permission off?
For example, by looking at whether your SIM is roaming, what network it is connected to, what network issued the SIM in any second slot, or any other info that would give away your location.
