In these two images, I measure the distance Washington D.C., the US–Kyiv, Ukraine. As clearly seen, Google Maps on the Android phone does not show a correct geodesic. For example, the true geodesic goes north of the British Isles and cuts through northern Scania, Sweden. The Google Maps “geodesic” cuts through France, southern Germany and southern Poland. Obviously this is not a true geodesic on a spherical Earth. However, the distance seems to be correct (~7800 km). This implies the distance calculation is using the correct formulas. Is there an option in the Google Maps Android app that lets me see proper geodesics again? Geodesic on Google Earth

I got a new OnePlus One recently and have noticed that the Google Maps Navigation Voice is in English (India) ( I bought the phone in India). This is very annoying and refuses to change no matter how much i change the TTS settings and delete the English(India) voice. It just redownloads and speaks in that voice. It is just fine English (US) on a Moto X I also bought in India (App not Updated). So my questions: a) Is this a "feature"? b) How do I fix it? I would like the English(US) Google TTS voice to work.

I'm using Google Maps on my Pixel 8a to while I'm driving and it works nicely. But the map interface is all messed up when I'm using it in walking mode. If I let the app adjust the perspective itself, the arrow starts pointing towards a random direction and the path is usually hidden out of view. This is what I see unless I fix perspective by panning and rotating every 10 meters or so. **To clarify**: Google Maps shows my location and the direction I am heading correctly. It just doesn't rotate it's view so that the arrow is pointing upwards. enter image description here Here's what I (and probably everyone else) expect it to look like: enter image description here Is this a bug with Google Maps or should I be change some setting?

My Google Navigator now dropping navigation if I turn my screen off. Before that I was able to navigate by audio hints from my pocket, now I am unable to do this. Once I turn my screen off, navigation stops. Moreover, when I turn my screen back on, navigation doesn't continue automatically. First it tries to trace a route again and requires me to press "Start" button. Power saving options are OFF, Maps application has Location, Notifications and Physical activivty permissions granted. How to fix?

I have a Pixel 8 Pro with Android 14; for years I have used my Android phones for car navigation. Like many, I like to use my phone to listen to Pandora, Spotify, podcast players etc. While in Driving Mode, there is... or *was* a tray at the bottom of the screen I could click to view all of the available media providers (everything presented with giant buttons to reduce driving distraction), select the one I wanted to use, and select from the selected provider which music channel, podcast, etc. I wanted to listen to. Recently this tray has simply disappeared and for the life of me I can't figure out what happened or how to get it back again. I've searched through system settings and driving mode settings and if there is anything related to this behavior I haven't been able to find it. I also tried clearing the cache of some apps and many system services, but this has not fixed the issue. Wondering if anyone has an idea what is going on and how to restore this UI element to driving mode.

You can change the navigation voice language in Google Maps via: hamburger icon (3 horizontal bars) --> Settings --> Navigation Settings --> Voice selection --> choose any language I have my Google maps voice set to French. However, it no longer speaks street names! I am using Google maps to navigate using voice only, with*out* a screen, while riding my electric skateboard. So, I really need it to speak the street names while I'm riding, but I want the voice to be in French. Any way to do this?

I use Google Maps on my PC and have some favorite places added there. On my phone, I want to use an offline map. On my old phone, I used [RMaps](https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/RMaps) with whole city maps downloaded with [Mobile Atlas Creator](https://mobac.sourceforge.io/) and manually added favorites and POIs on it. Now I bought a new phone and found out that RMaps is no longer available. I'd like to add favorites/POIs to Google Maps and make sure they will be available with a whole city map when the phone is offline. But I don't want to be somewhere and open Android Google Maps and find out some tile for that area wasn't downloaded. The best solution I see is to download the whole map from Google Maps or OSM and store the map on the phone and use some app that's able to open this offline map file and at the same time sync favorites/POIs with Google Maps. I tried OsmAnd, but when I create a POI on it, it fails due to some authentication error. It's not trying to connect to Google, because other apps are able to sync with Google Apps. But there's no setting to add login data or create a new account. Could somebody suggest a way to properly handle offline maps and sync favorites with Google Maps?

If I select "by car" - then it rotates as it should. I'm using the phone mainly as a cycle GPS, and my bike mount is fixed to landscape orientation. So is there anything I can do about this? If there is no way to "edit a config file?", if not, is there a way to force the app (using a widget) maybe to rotate? Thanks in advance.

I used Google Maps navigation for times without any problem, on several different devices; currently I'm using a Google Pixel 3a, and it first worked properly too. But suddenly, it began to **cut EACH guidance phrase before the end**, like in this example (freely translated from French): > In 200 meters, at the roundabout, take the (silent here) This happened systematically during some days, after which it started working properly again. But it started again cutting phrases some other days later! This has occurred during months: working - not working - working - not working... Till it totally stopped talking: visually the navigation process works fine, but **now the device never says anything at all**. Obviously I controlled my configuration, which is correctly set to have the guidance playing. Important precision: very strangely, **this happens for car guidance, but pedestrian one talks normally!** I tried following numerous help pages from the net, without success: they all address either configuration settings or device malfunction, so **the proposed solution always concerns a general problem** (affecting any sound usage, at least inside of Google Maps), **while my problem clearly happens for only certain parts**.

Google maps has recently introduced speed camera notifications, and I had the misfortune of experiencing these for the first time yesterday. Personally I find the audio "speed camera ahead" very annoying and distracting, and would like to disable it. I don't mind the little beep or the icon on the map, but I'm also quite happy to lose them if it means getting rid of the spoken announcement. However much I search, I can't find an option to remove this, or any information on the internet about disabling this. Is it possible?

How does Google Maps Navigation know you are in a tunnel when it switches to night mode?
I suppose this isn't exactly a new feature but it is new to me since I don't travel through tunnels very often. What exactly is the software using when it decides to switch over to night mode when in a tunnel? GPS Location? A light sensor? A combination of both?
