How to get Google Assistant to recognize & call locally stored contacts (Android 16)?
In Android 16, how does one get Google Assistant to recognize and call locally stored (non-synced) contacts? When trying to use Google Assistant to make calls by saying *"Hey Google... In Android 16, how does one get Google Assistant to recognize and call locally stored (non-synced) contacts?
When trying to use Google Assistant to make calls by saying *"Hey Google... Call \"*, it always responds with *"Sorry who do you want to call?"*, and then pops up a pane that states *"Pick a contact"* that, when tapped, just opens the Contacts app. The pane also shows *"Call \"*, where *\* is the correctly spelled contact name, indicating that the problem is not a voice recognition issue.
What's been tried:
- Fully updated everything (apps, Google Play Services, Android).
- Reluctantly enabled many permissions for the Google app, including: Call logs, Contacts, Microphone, Notifications, and Phone.
- Within **Settings > Apps > Assistant > General**, enabled: Google Assistant, and set the Preferred input to Voice.
- Within **Settings > Apps > Assistant > Personal Results**, enabled: Personal Results, Lock screen personal results, and Personal suggestions on lock screen before you ask.
Please note that I also tried making calls using Google's AI Gemini Assistant, but it always says that it is still being developed and cannot currently make phone calls.
This question is related to, but different from, this old question: [How do I navigate to a contacts address using my voice?](

Cannot use voice command through Google Search Bar microphone icon

I use Google's default voice input all the time, for texting and navigation and searching and such. Previously, if a scenario arose when I needed to include a symbol (such as an exclamation point!) or a special case, like a smiley face ":-)", I simply said these into the voice input:
text mom i love you exclamation point smiley face
used to yield
Text to: Mom
Message: I love you! :-)
now yields:
Text to: Mom
Message: i love you exclamation point smiley face
I noticed the change after upgrading to ICS (AOKP, latest builds) but realized the issue now happens across OS usage, which I would attribute to Google's interpretation methods changing. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? I loved this feature!

I was wondering whether there exist any Android wheelchairs that run Android.
These could allow people that were unable to move their limbs but could still use voice to control their wheelchair through voice by talking into a phone in the front part of the wheelchair connected to the wheelchair via Bluetooth.
Currently, Android has something known as voice access to control your phone via voice.
But it could be nice, if, this mechanism could be extended to connect to a wheelchair via Bluetooth and control it via voice.
Perhaps the phone can also be powered on and off via a voice command.
Not sure about the charging part, but I think a robotic part that could find the wall socket and charge wheelchair and phone simultaneously would be nice.
This would be very useful to people with no arms and legs or to people whose arms and legs were paralyzed such as paraplegic or tetraplegic people, but who could still use their voice to connect to their phone, operate their wheelchair, move about and communicate.
Thank you.

I recently moved from Google Tasks to Microsoft ToDo and it's very good, which should not be a surprise considering it's Wunderlist [underneath](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wunderlist) .
Using Android Auto in the car, I want to be able to add to my *Microsoft To Do* Tasks list using voice only. [Microsoft Support says](https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/office/using-ok-google-with-microsoft-to-do-94d3c3f0-9f4c-4e8d-a57d-439cd69e1f61) to use voice commands with *Microsoft To Do* on Android, tap the microphone icon in the Google search bar, say "Ok Google, add a note...", and select *Microsoft To Do* as your default app.
That does not work for me though when I just say "Ok Google, add a note...", without taping first, a note gets added to Google Keep. I can't see anywhere to change the default so it's added to the *Tasks* list in *Microsoft To Do*.
Has anyone been able to get it working?

I was wondering whether there is any way (my guess, is that this would be almost like an exhaustive dictionary) to go though a textual list of all the Google voice commands you can issue to the Google app or to the Google Assistant app.
Where can I find such a list? Can I find one on the system (perhaps, even within, the Google Assistant app itself, or, alternatively, within a special (related), app on the system)?
Thanks

Android 13 Google Assistant using English and Spanish languages. Opened the Google app, tap my profile, Settings, Google Assistant, English (United States) was already listed and español (Estados Unidos) was then added. Then selected “assistant voice and speech output” and from there I can select the voice that I want to use, but only for English. The option to change the Spanish voice is not available.
Had to remove English leaving only Spanish and then I was able to select the Spanish voice, but after adding the English language back, all I get is the option to change the English voice but not Spanish.
How can I select the voice for English and the voice for Spanish without having to remove one of the languages?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 Phone, I work in English, Spanish and French, and constantly have to change from one language to the other, making a shortcut to change the language of the voice-recognition would make this the perfect, perfect phone, I would prefer to dictate my email and WhatsApp messages instead of typing them all the time, but going in to the home screen/menu/voice-recognition settings etc... just defeats the purpose... it takes more steps than to just type it...
By default It should be that: when I swipe to change the language of the Gingerbread keyboard it should also change the language of the voice recognition...
Please help, anyone... I would gladly pay for any app or script that solves this... does anyone know where can I find this?

On my Samsung S6 EDGE phone (Android 7), there is a function in the settings to pick up the phone by saying "answer". The problem is that since Android 8, this function no longer exists.
As I would like to change my telephone, I would not like to find myself unprepared. That's why I would like to know if it would be possible that I could make from an application or a script a system that allows me to press the pick up a button and hang up the phone when I say "pick up" or "hang up".

Google Assistant crashes the moment I open the app. Due to this. I'm unable to invoke my Assistant even though having setup all it's settings such as turning it On, setting up 'Hey Google' and training the voice recognition model. Similarly, The Google App crashes the moment I try voice search.(Open 'Google' App, click on the 'Mic' icon on the search bar for voice input to search.)
I tried few fixes after searching online and troubleshooting guides from google, but nothing seemed to work even after enabling all the options mentioned in those guides.
I need this community's help in figuring out what's causing this and fixing it. Can anyone help me on this please?
Phone: Oneplus 6. (I've used google assistant a couple of years ago, but never used in the past 2+ yrs. Now that I've got a few smart devices, I want to use it again.)
OS: Oxygen OS 9.0.9
Edit: I have tried a fix that I found online, which was clearing the data of 'Google' app and restarting the phone. But the situation ended up being worse than before. Now, when I go to the 'Hey Google & Voice Match' setting, I see 'An Error has occurred. Please try again later.'(Attached an image below).
Cheers!

I have about 60 gigs of music on my Samsung Galaxy S8. I normally uses Pi Music Player, and am very happy with it. But that's not so convenient while driving, so I'd like to control my music through Google Assistant.
However, when I ask Google assistant to say, "Play John Prine from my library", it's hit or miss whether it starts playing my John Prine collection or whether it offers up some random John Prine video from YouTube. I can't seem to find any way to tell it reliably that I only want music from my phone.
I was about to buy a new car and enjoy the pleasures of Bluetooth voice commands so I don't have to fiddle with my phone while driving (my existing ten-year-old car does not offer me this option). But it now appears that there's no way to do that; unless I pick up my phone and use the touch screen, the system is going to play whatever it feels like playing rather than the music that's right there on the phone. I've put the car purchase on hold until I figure out whether there's a solution to this. (I've also just spent an entire very frustrating day trying and failing to find settings I can adjust...) Is there in fact a solution?

I've got a Moto G running KitKat and am having an issue where the Voice Dialler (I think that's what it's called) opens up when the phone is in my pocket, locked.
I have no idea how it is happening.. I presume there is some combination of buttons you can press to open it, and these are getting pressed in my pocket. I regularly have headphones plugged in to the phone, so it is perhaps related to that.
My question is, how is this Voice Dialler app opening and how can I disable it? I haven't installed any third party app so I presume it's a part of Google Now, or some Motorola app that came with the phone...?
I haven't been able to get a screenshot, but the app opens and a voice prompts me to say a name or phone number to dial.. Very annoying as it cuts off Spotify and I have to unlock the phone and hit the play button again.

### Question
How to force *Google Voice Recognition* working in offline mode even if an internet connection is available?
### Background
I know *Google Voice Recognition* has an offline mode**1**, using "speech recognition packs" one can download.**2** I'm also aware that this offline-mode is limited, compared to what it can do via Internet. Still, being a little paranoid on Google's data collection I rather avoid using its online facilities – and so I currently don't use *Google Voice Search* at all.
I'd like to give it a try, though – but always switching to airplane mode for that is not practical. My devices are all rooted, and have the [XPosed Framework](https://android.stackexchange.com/tags/xposed-framework/info) installed. I know about the [GoogleOfflineVoice](http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.germainz.googleofflinevoice) module – but that hasn't been updated since 9/2014 and [is reported to be non-operational with the current *Google Search* app](http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-googleofflinevoice-force-offline-t2634630/page10) (plus it's unclear if the dev will pick up the work; I've just [asked about that](http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-googleofflinevoice-force-offline-t2634630/page10#post66893957) , answer was "Honestly no idea" (dev lacking time)).
### Other benefits
It's reported that *Google Voice Search* is much faster in offline mode. So if one doesn't need the "extended capabilities" of its online mode, faster reaction will certainly be welcome – which makes this question interesting not only for "privacy fetishists", "conspiracy theorists" and "paranoid users" :)
### Question (refined):
So I'm looking for alternatives: simple settings preferred, [tag:adb] commands definitely accepted, root-solutions are fine. If it requires an app, that app itself should require none or only minimal permissions itself. I'm also open to speech-recognition suggestions not involving *Google Voice Search* as long as they work offline and don't invade privacy**3**.
### Note:
I'm mainly interested in giving voice commands and maybe doing some dictation.
### Related information
* How to enable offline Speech To Text in Android
* How to use speech-to-text offline?
----
**1:** see: How to use speech-to-text offline?
**2:** see [Google Voice Search requiring internet access even when offline speech recognition pack is installed](https://android.stackexchange.com/q/130724/16575)
**3:** Internet permission just to download voice-packs is OK, as I can block it as soon as the download is completed. Manual download (placing the files on the SD card) preferred :)
