If I correctly understand Google's overly-complex privacy UI, people can disable the storing of their interactions with the "traditional" Google Assistant. Google will reportedly be phasing out Google Assistant during 2025 and is replacing it with Google Gemini Assistant. According to this Google support page , it appears that there is no way to prevent Google from storing (and reading) everything you say to their "improved" assistant: > **Even when Gemini Apps Activity is off**, your conversations will be saved with your account for up to 72 hours to allow Google to provide the service and process any feedback. This activity won’t appear in your Gemini Apps Activity. Google says all your conversations with their Gemini Assistant will be saved "with your account", but I'm not seeing them disclose ***where exactly*** all your conversations will be saved. Nor does Google mention any way to manually delete sensitive conversations or accidental recordings that Google makes when it mistakenly thinks people are talking to their AI bot. Am I interpreting Google's words and actions correctly? **Is Google's new Gemini Assistant much less private than the product it is replacing, given that Gemini Assistant *always* saves every conversation you have with it for up to 72 hours?**

I've got a Motorola Moto G34 (Snapdragon CPU, Android 14, not rooted) and have installed CUBE ACR along with CUBE ACR Helper to record my VOIP calls. It works as follows: as soon as I start a call, I click the recording button, and it begins recording. When I finish the call, it stops recording automatically. If possible, my goal is to have CUBE ACR start recording the surrounding sounds at first, and when I make a VOIP call, it should continue recording the call, regardless of whether it stops recording the surrounding sounds or keeps recording them as well. If this is possible, please let me know how to set it up.

Android version 6.0, is there any way to give voice-activation to the pre-installed Voice-Recorder?

The question Android version 6.0 ( 2016 smartphone, Marshmallow ), is there any way to give voice-activation to the pre-installed Voice-Recorder ? - Or, is it possible to install a more modern version of the pre-installed Voice-Recorder, one that has voice-activation ? - Or, maybe by using 'Tasker', but maybe it could only have 'Tasker' open the Voice-Recorder whenever it detects voice, rather than the ideal of leaving the Voice-Recorder open and record only when there is sound present. I don't know anything at all about 'Tasker', and I have almost no skills, and have never installed anything on my phone, by choice. - Manufacturer = Wiko - Model = Sunny ( 2016 ) - Custom build version = Sunny Marshmallow 6.0 ( 22 ) - There's no other information on the phone or packaging giving more exact details of the model, just 'Sunny', purchased 2016 - This phone seems to have either the Google-Assistant or one of the versions of it, which I can only access by keeping the 'Home Button' pressed, or more correctly touched, until it comes up, this would possibly be useful to access the microphone for 'Tasker' to then activate the record on the 'Voice-Recorder' ( the 'Voice-Recorder' APP could just be left open in the background, but not recording, to make a custom made voice-activation functionality quicker in it's response time )

Done Later, I want to see a list of open voice notes (not handled yet) and reply them. No speech-to-text magic is needed. The primary focus is on speed. Background: If I am talking to someone and want to take a note, I don't want to disturb the conversation since taking the phone, unlocking it, opening a note app, and finally typing it takes too long. Best solution would be this: Start recording without looking at the phone. Like a dictaphone. Anyway to get this thing get done?

I know that there are lots of "voice recorder" apps out there. Some of them will let you record using your bluetooth headset instead of the built-in mic. However, all the ones I have looked at say things like "tap the button to start recording". This defeats the purpose of what I am trying to do, which is to record thoughts I have while I am out and about walking, biking, driving, etc. when I can reach up and hit a button on my bluetooth phone, but I am not able to stop, pull my phone out of wherever I have it stashed, take off my gloves so I can touch the screen, power up the device, enter my lock code, jump to the record app if needed, and tap to start recording. By the time I have done that I have lost my train of thought, and wasted a lot of time. Voice activated recording is probably not going to work, because, even though my headset has some degree of wind cancellation, there is a lot of ambient noise from time to time. I can use voice commands, which is still a bit of a pain but at least keeps me mostly hands free, that is, I can tap the button on my headset, say "activate" and my headset will connect to the phone and bring up voice commands. However, I am not sure what I would do next. The commands offered are things like "Go To >", and "Check >" - these are the only two that seems remotely related to what I am trying to do. I assume that maybe if I said something like "Go To Voice Recorder" it might open up the voice recorder, but I couldn't get it to work and am not sure what it expects for >. Even then, assuming that part would work, I would need to have some way of telling the app to start recording, for instance, if the shortcut was not just the app but a full-blown intent. I am not sure how I would set that up. There is also the question of how to stop it, but hopefully hitting the headset button again would work as that already as a similar function while on a phone call. Am I on the right track here? Is there some kind of app that will help me out here? One thing I don't understand is, does the app have to explicitly support bluetooth audio for this to work? I would think the OS (Android) would abstract away the input source, yet some apps explicitly claim Bluetooth support (even going so far as to only support it in the for-pay version) while others don't say anything about it.

I transfered all my data from my Huawei to my oppo without any trouble, except my recordings. I was able to transfere them but the date of creation was reset. I really want to keep this information, but I haven't found a way. I already transfered my recordings from my Huawei P20 lite to my huawei P30 lite in April, and when I look in the file, all my recordings older than April 2021 has their date set to 13.04.21, but the date is the good one in the recordings app. It makes me really wonder where this information is stored. I hope this is clear, don't hesitate to ask for more information. Good day and thank you for taking the time to read this. enter image description here enter image description here

I have several phones, all of them on various versions of Android 10 and 11. I am using an app to make conference calls and I need to record those conference calls. My main device is Huawei P20, but the same problem occurs on all the Android phones I have. When I try to screen record the calls, there is no audio at all. I have tried a bunch of screen recording apps, including the one that came with the system and all the major screen recording apps available. Same problem. I have also checked and tweaked the sound settings and did everything I could, (internal, mic, mic + internal/system have all been tried) but the problem persists. A lot of screen recording apps say if the Android version is lower than 9, there might be issues with the audio, but 10 and above shouldn't have any issues. One error message comes up sometimes: app ABC (that app's name) is recording audio (or using the mic) so the audio can't be recorded. I don't know what that means, because all I need the screen recorder to do is to faithfully grab the audio from the system. I tried screen recording the same app on iPhones and there was no problem at all. The audio was clearly kept.

I drive a car with a built-in hands-free interface to a Bluetooth phone (it's a Volkswagen Passat). From the "on-board computer" interface in the dashboard, I can select an entry from my contact list and dial that number to talk to them. I often find that, as I am driving along, I have a thought that I would like to remember by recording a voice memo to myself. The only way I know of doing this is to unlock my Android phone, start a voice recording application and hit the record button. By the time I've typed my pin number into my Android phone to unlock it, this is already very unsafe while I'm driving along, so I don't want to do this! Is there anyway I can set up my phone such that if I dial some "special" number (#\*#\*# or whatever) that, when I call it will just record my voice rather than actually dialling an external number? I could then program this number in to my contacts list and access it via the buttons on the steering wheel of my car. Ideally, when I hang up the call I'd like it to email me the recording, but that may be going too far... This would also be useful on the motorbike where the phone is in my pocket, but I can dial numbers (when safe to do so) via the Garmin Zumo 660 GPS. If I stop at some traffic lights, I can quickly dial a number on the GPS, but I certainly wouldn't have time to take my gloves off, unzip my jacket, take my phone out and run a voice recording application!

I noticed that the files stored on Pixel's Recorder app (if not backed up/synced) cannot be easily imported from other apps. They are stored in /data/data/com.google.android.apps.recorder/files/recordings which I understand requires root access to directly access the files outside of the Recorder app. My question - and I apologize in advance for the newbie nature of this question - is, on a non-rooted phone, how easily could these files be accessed by an app that has permission to access media files or all files? Thinking of malicious apps, or apps like TikTok which have been known to gather/access more data than they need.

I tried it several ways and made sure my fingers aren't on the screen while I'm recording, so I don't think I'm accidentally tapping the screen to stop the recording. Is the problem likely with my phone, or is there some setting I need to change? I assume I don't need to upgrade $ to make notes that are longer, do I?

I am a fairly new Android user. I am using a Lenovo Vibe K4 Note running Android version 6.0.
I have __two basic queries__ related to each other. My first question is about the Google Play music library (or for any music player app for that matter). The library aggregates all the music files on the phone, including .ogg files created by the Sound Recorder. __I do not want this behavior.__
I added a .nomedia file to my sound recordings folder as suggested here . On my phone, this folder is located at __Local > Internal Storage > Audio > SoundRecorder__. The Sound recordings were gone from the Google Play app. However, one side effect of this was that the recordings stopped showing in the Sound Recorder app as well. This is an undesired behavior since I happen to use the Recorder app and its easier to see my files there rather than going into the File Explorer.
__Question 1:__ __Is there any way to have the Recordings excluded from Music Apps but not from the Sound Recorder app?__
My second question is about a related problem I had. While the .nomedia trick worked initially, it randomly stops doing its job i.e. the media starts showing up in all places. At this point, I tried all the suggestions I found such as clearing Media Cache and rebooting the Phone. It does not work and the media still shows. The .nomedia method has been working perfectly for Image files from WhatsApp and Facebook apps which I have blocked from showing up in my Gallery. And that always works, so what is up with Audio files?
__Question 2:__ __Can you provide any information on why .nomedia stops working intermittently and randomly for different file types?__
I am grateful for all answers or links to information to this frustrating issue. Thanks community! First Post Nailed!!!

I just got a refurbished Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to replace a dead Note II. When compared with the Note II, it is giving me terrible audio quality for voice recordings done with headset mics — there is a severe high-frequency roll‑off that leaves the recording sounding muffled. I initially discovered this when using the headset that came with the Note II. I have a homemade windscreen rigged up on it, so I wanted to keep using it rather than trying to transfer that to the headset that came with the Note 4. So, the exact same microphone and windscreen, using the stock Voice Recorder app on both phones, neither rooted, in high quality mode in both cases (recording MPEG-4 audio), and the difference is night and day when listening to existing recordings done on the Note II vs. tests on the Note 4. The recordings from the Note II certainly donʼt sound like a studio condenser mic (like in the appʼs graphic, lol), but theyʼre of reasonable quality, more than adequate for speech. High frequency detail is there; I can hear leaves rustling very crisply, and sibilants in speech are clear and distinct. The recordings from the Note 4, by contrast, sound muffled. Sibilants are muted and somewhat indistinct. It sounds like it was put through a low‑pass filter. Speech is still basically intelligible, but the gap in quality could well make the difference between making out certain words or not under less ideal conditions. The overall signal level in the Note 4 recordings is also noticeably lower. I have to turn up those recordings more than the Note II recordings to compare them equally. (Iʼm wondering if that and the fidelity problem may be related — the MPEG codec might throw out very quiet high-frequency data by design.) I should note that in the Note 4 the “Recording volume” setting is set to “High” (thereʼs only that and “Low”). Iʼm listening to both files on a PC with VLC media player, through a home hi‑fi system with proper speakers — not some cheezy self-powered made‑for‑computers garbage. VLC is showing the recordings from both phones to have a content bitrate around 128kb/s, so I donʼt think itʼs a matter of bandwidth loss from more aggressive data compression. I figured maybe the electrical parameters of the headset had changed between the two models, and so also did a test with the headset that came with the Note 4. It was maybe very slightly better due to the lack of the windscreen, but basically still horribly muffled — low signal level and significant loss of high frequency response. I should note that this is _not_ a problem with the Note 4ʼs internal mics. When I unplug the headset and record with the internal mic, the recording is much louder and has decent frequency response. Possible explanations I can think of: * There has been a significant regression in the quality of the preamp or ADC circuitry for the external mic from the Note II to the Note 4. * My particular Note 4 has a problem in the audio connector that is introducing extra resistance. I have tried cleaning it with a cotton swab and isopropanol, and the issue remained. * My particular Note 4 has a damaged mic preamp or ADC circuit. * There is a system setting buried somewhere that I need to change, other than the obvious settings in Voice Recorder, which are already set to their highest levels. * There is a bug in the Note 4ʼs firmware. * There is a bug in the Note 4ʼs Voice Recorder app, but this seems unlikely, as I expect it just encodes whatever audio the OS gives it. Any ideas which of these might be happening? If this is a problem in the model itself, surely someone else has encountered this long ago. The exact model is SM-N910W8 running Android 6.0.1, kernel 3.10.40-8000148. **UPDATE:** I did testing with a 3rd party app that can record raw PCM into a RIFF (WAV) file, and the same muffled sound was there, so itʼs not the fault of the stock recording app or data compression. Robertʼs suggestion led me to figure out that the ADC for the headset input is in a Qualcomm WCD9330 chip. I also discovered from schematics I was able to dig up that the _internal_ mics are digital mics (the ADC is built into the mic), so the WCD9330ʼs ADCs are not being used for those. I also checked out the engineering specs for a couple similar chips in the same line (Qualcomm doesnʼt seem to have published specs for that exact device), and nothing there suggested that the frequency response should be anywhere near so poor unless the firmware has drastically misconfigured the chip. I _did_ find a reference, on XDA Developers [here](https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/orig-development/rom-lineageos-15-1-t3732074/page10) , regarding a totally different device, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 LTE, that uses the same chip and has muffled audio input caused by a firmware issue. In that case, a custom ROM was causing the issue, and the stock ROM worked fine. In my case, itʼs using the stock ROM (AFAIK!), but perhaps in this case the stock ROM is at fault. I did some testing and found, somewhat surprisingly, that the frequency response is actually full hi‑fi with the exception of a two-octave 10dB notch at around 8kHz. This dip at 8kHz is very consistent with what the recordings are doing to speech. Given that the response is consistent with a notch filter, it now looks like the behaviour is probably half‑ways _intentional_, which was a bit mystifying. I decided to put up [this](https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/450492/why-an-8khz-notch-on-the-headset-mic-input-of-a-qualcomm-wcd9330) question on the Electrical Engineering SE, to see if there might be a plausible engineering explanation. The result of that discussion is that it would be normal, due to sampling rates used in telephony, to knock out frequencies above 4kHz in order to avoid transmitting severe aliasing artefacts to the remote party. That filter _should_ get turned off when an app asks for PCM data at a higher sampling rate, but the electronics allows independent control over the filtering, so itʼs quite plausible that the firmware in this particular model, when disabling the filter for audio recording, forgets to disable it on the external mic input. So far I have not found a confirmation of this as a known issue of this model, but it seems like the most likely explanation. On a firmware/software level, Android devices are basically a black box to me, so I have no idea where in the software stack this issue would be most likely to be, whether this might be fixed by a custom ROM, or by some utility that runs rooted, or what. Another dimension to the problem is the very low input volume level. I had originally thought that was related, though it now seems more likely it may be a separate issue. I did find the following suspicious lines in mixer_paths.xml: There are a number of other places there and in mixer_paths_i2s.xml (I2S is Inter‑IC Sound, a hardware bus used by the WCD93xx) that also set a similarly low number for the volume for ADC2. I say this is suspicious because from what I understand, the integer setting here is in 1dB increments with 84 being 0dB. This would suggest that ADC2 is being set to -70dB — a _remarkably_ low level! However, ADC2 is a hardware port whereas DEC5 is I think some kind of software mixing channel, so without much more intimate knowledge of Androidʼs audio hardware abstraction scheme, I canʼt be sure that the numbers for ADC2 are interpreted in the same way. To make matters more confusing, there are two identical copies of this file, one in /etc and one in /system/etc. Also, the mixer_paths_wcd9330.xml file, mentioned for the Galaxy Tab S2, does not occur in either of these locations. And there doesnʼt even seem to be a /system/vendor/etc directory on this phone. I canʼt edit this file to play around with it without rooting the phone, but Iʼm a little reluctant to do that, partly from having zero experience rooting phones, and also because if I _do_ discover a hardware issue, I donʼt want the store to be able to blame it on that. So Iʼd need to first be confident itʼs going to fix the problem.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab E 9.6, which I used with the built-in Android 4. Now I updated to 6 (CyanogenMod 13) and since then the microphone is behaving really perplexing. No matter which voice recording application I use (I tried some of them), it is muting whenever I don't speak for a split second. Of course it turns on again, when I speak again, but nevertheless, this sounds quite weird, is there a way to turn this "feature" off? Thank you very much!
