My phone is a Nokia 8 with the latest update (Android Pie). I use to listen music/videos with wired headphones with some remote control buttons and a microphone. The buttons are not designed for Android phones so only the main pause/play button is working.
My phone recognizes these combo jack headphones very strangely. Once I plug the jack in, there is temporary state when the sound is correctly played for about 1 sec. Then the media is paused like if the jack is removed. Finally, when I unpause the media, the sound is played again but with different volume settings.
My guess is the phone is switching between combo mic and normal stereo headphones. This is not happenning with headphones without microphone.
My main problem is that the minimum volume in combo settings in the Android scale has continuously raised over time. Now even the first step results in a sound too loud for a quiet environment, which makes my headphones unusable. I have the impression that the volume rises every time I use the remote pause button, but that's very uncertain.
I tried many apps to reduce volume or force my phone to recognize my headphones as only stereo. I also investigated the android normal and developper settings. And the Nokia 8 is unrootable...
Any idea about how to solve this strange behaviour from Android ?
Thanks

It's a brand new Nokia 8, running Android Oreo 8.
When the phone is lying down on the table, the touchscreen becomes somewhat unresponsive. The effect is increased when it's plugged in for charging.
If I touch the screen, the touch does not register on the correct point, or if I draw a line, it breaks off into multiple dots or dashes. On picking the phone up, the issue sort of disappears.
I don't remember the brand name of the tempered glass screen guard I have, but I think it's of good quality, and do not believe it's an issue.
Some users on *Nokia support * have said they don't have any screen guards installed, and yet they have the touchscreen issue. I see that many users on XDA have the same issue as well.
I contacted *Nokia support* via the built-in app, and their response is that I should bring it to a service center for a close examination. I will do so later.
I'm keeping this question here for posterity. Maybe somebody will know what's going on.

I just had some luck unlocking the bootloader on my Nokia 8.1. But it looks like I've accomplished nothing still. Previously when I attempted to flash a partition via fastboot or boot a boot image, I used to see:
flashing is not allowed in locked state
Now that I've successfully unlocked the bootloader (I can confirm via deviceinfo command and also via the 5 second warning before boot), I am encountering another roadblock:
flashing is not rooted for fused device
It appears to be some sort of additional check. The device does show on screen (fastboot mode) that
fuse = enable
. Looks like this is some additional check for devices which have been unlocked to prevent unauthorised use. I do not have any idea how to disable it. It probably comes from the Kernel level or probably somewhere else. Can somebody guide me to a direction which I should take next?
There should be some way to disable fuse.

When driving I saw a dialog that an application power control stopped. Later I realized that the phone Nokia 8 behaves strangely. I cannot go to launcher, switch application and reboot the phone. Back button works, two other buttons have no effect. Volume app and down work. I can use the power button to lock and unlock the screen. But holding it does not bring reboot options. Is there any other way how to reboot the phone?

I also tried to enter a password but that doesn't help.
Same effect with adb backup -apk org.mozilla.firefox
: in both cases, only an empty backup.ab
file is created. To be sure, I've also included the -f
option to explicitly specify an output file name – same effect, the file stays empty.
adb version 1.0.39.

I've a notification from *Android system* that I can only snooze, not remove permanently, about an app running in the background. It's specifically about Keepass2Android:
> Keepass2Android is running in the background
I know it's running in the background so I don't need to be reminded about it constantly. Most annoying is that it takes up unnecessary space.
Is there a way to disable this notification?

I bought a Nokia 8 two days back, and updated it to Android Oreo 8.0.0. No more updates are available.
I have only installed some basic everyday apps such WhatsApp or Facebook.
I'm able to change wallpapers from the gallery. However, if I go to Settings > Display > Wallpaper, an error pops up, saying "Settings has stopped; open app again".
What can I do to correct this?
Clearing cache+data for the Settings app and restarting phone did not solve it. Rebooting into safe mode also did not help.
On repeated trials, I see a slightly different screen.

Trying to solve the "settings has stopped " issue, I did a full reset, and then another issue came up.
On re-inserting the external SD Card, the *Files* app (or any file manager) can see the contents, but gallery and music players don't see the media. And on connecting to the PC, the SD card shows only one or two folders, and nothing else.
The SD card is a SanDisk microSDXC Class 10 64GB, which was initially formatted from within the Nokia 8 on first use, as was required for some reason.
