I use the headphone socket to plug my device into the car speakers and listen to podcasts while I'm driving.
The only way this works is if the device's volume level is on full loudness. You can't hear the show through the car's speakers any other way.
Occasionally, something will trigger something and the device will automatically go significantly quieter and you can only barely hear the show.
The only way to get the sound audible again is to dismiss the on-screen dialog and turn the volume back up. I can't do that while I'm driving so until I can stop safely I have to put up with the show continuing to play in a barely understandable whisper and when I can pull over I have to rewind the show to where I was listening. If the show ended in that time I need to download it again.
Is there please a way to turn off whatever is doing that?

I often listen to music from my phone through my car stereo, but when a call comes in and I answer it, there is terrible feedback on the other end because the caller hears both my speakers and the audio from the phone.
Is there anything I can do about this other than to switch to a traditional headset?

I have the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and this phone is NOT rooted yet. However, I am not sure if this is a hardware-specific issue or not. The phone is a day old, so I don't know if it should have been working before.
When I insert an audio jack (headphones, tried two pairs), no audio is played through them, but instead, continues playing through the main speakers.
Xiaomi support lines are reportedly bad, so I won't try, especially since I can't find their support email/ticket site in the first place.
Following is the specs:
Device Android ID/Codename: Nikel
Android: 6.0.1 MMB29M - MIUI8
Patch Level: 2017-04-01
MIUI Version: MIUI Global 8.2 Stable (8.2.5.0 MCFMIDL)
CPU: Octa-Core Max 2.00GHz
RAM: 3.00 GB
Internal: 32GB
Kernel: 3.18.24-perf-g798c6bf
Is this a hardware issue, or a software issue?
If it's software, what should I do to fix it, and is this a known issue?

Poor audio quality after one second of playback on Nokia 1.4

I've found a gateway to a possible solution:
I've now installed VLC Media Player, which allowed me to change the audio output from **AudioTrack** to **OpenSL ES** (which I presume are some kind of codecs or audio libraries). With OpenSL ES the issue is now solved.
Now the question becomes: Is it possible to select OpenSL ES system-wide as the audio output system? Or is OpenSL ES perhaps only available in VLC, because they've embedded it in their app?
----
Original problem:
I recently bought a Nokia 1.4 32 GB phone, with Android Go (which I updated to version 11).
Today I wanted to listen to music for the first time. I plugged my headphones into the headphone jack, but the audio coming from the headphone jack is just terrible:
As I start to play a song, for the first second the audio sounds rich and full as it's supposed to sound, but immediately after that the sound loses its richness and continues to sound flat, flaky and tinny. It's almost as if some kind of automatic volume limiting is applied, but done in a very poor fashion.
Now, I have no expertise in audio, but my intuition leads me to believe that this more likely points to a software rather than a hardware issue. Or am I mistaken here? Could hardware audio components (maybe a hardware codec?) cause such issues as well?
I've tried three different music players (YouTube Music, Pulsar and Musicolet), each with and without turning on an equalizer, but the same thing happens every time. I've also tried to disable MusicFX, but that doesn't appear to do anything.
My headphones are cheap Sony earbuds, but I have no issues with the audio coming from my previous Android phone (LG 3G S), nor from my PC or laptop. I don't have a Bluetooth or other type of headphone, so I am unable to make a comparison.
What could be the cause of this issue and is there anything I can try to mitigate this issue? Perhaps install another or update existing software audio codec? Or am I hard-pressed to solve such an issue with an Android phone (of this caliber)?

This problem started a few days ago and it's extremely annoying in quiet environments.
I will be listening to music from any music player app, and whenever I open an app, get a notification, or switch the song the music starts playing from the phone speaker instead of the headphones. How can I stop this? Is this a software issue or a problem with the headphones itself? Is it just something in the settings? I've tried a lot of different methods.
Thanks!

My Xiaomi phone keeps switching from "headphone mode" to "normal mode" constantly (~2-3 times per second), completely on its own. This persists even if headphones are actually plugged in.
Before this is marked as duplicate, questions like [this one](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/5109/how-do-i-toggle-headset-headphone-mode-manually?newreg=9c86d51a3386473db78a4bcb981b55d0) and many others on the internet have the issue where their phone is stuck in headphone mode, not toggling on its own, so the solutions therein don't work.
I tried:
- Cleaning the headphone jack
- Plugging headphones in, turning the phone OFF, then ON, and unplugging.
- Downloading "toggleheadset" apps. These work in the sense that if headphone mode is ON it switches it off and viceversa, but 0.2 seconds later it changes again on and off and on and off and on and off...
There must be some way of "disabling" the headphone jack completely (I have a Bluetooth headset so idc). Resetting the phone should be a last resort, and I don't think it would fix it.
Edit: following beeshyams' comment I went into Safe mode, but the behaviour persisted. I tried "disable headphones" apps but they did nothing. Finally I did a hard reset, but this didn't fix it either :/

Record and play sound from Android to a computer - Jack disconnects periodically / Jack undetected - Depending on Android version

I would like to control audio IO of my android phone with a computer. I'm currently using a usb audio sound card with a input mic and line output ports connected to my computer. A phone is connected to an adapter jack 4 pins to 2 jack 3 pins (reference ). The adapters mic input is connected to the sound card line output and the adapters line output is connected to the sound card mic input. Like this, I can theoretically record phones output with the computer and play a sound on phones input from the computer.
I have with me **3 phones devices**, one android 10 (Redmi Note Pro 8) an other one is a android 9 (Samsung Galaxy A40), the last one is an android 4.0.3 (LG p700)
Everything works **fine** on the 4.0.3. The phone can detect the cable and I can record the phone output and play on the phone input.
But on the two others devices, it's not working.
**On Android 9 :** the phone **can't** detect the jack cable of the adapter, but when I plug earphones with mic (jack 4 pins), it's working. I think that isn't an hardware issue.
**On Android 10 :** the phone can detect the cable but changes state every seconds (detected/undetected). That means it is switching between earphone output and speaker output which is **impossible** to record or play. Like android 9, i can plug earphones, and it's working.
I personally think this may be related to phone impedance that is checked by recent version of Android.
What should I do to **record** and **play** on audio IO of a phone from a computer?
It's possible to me to develop an app on android and create a program on the computer to initialize the connection. Stereo recording isn't the objective here, mono will be enough.
(I cannot use in my case other protocol like USB or Bluetooth to record and play on phones)
**EDIT 1** : Concerning OMTP/CTIA standards
To know the standard used by each device, I did this experimentation. On my previous setup, I’m able to find that it is a CTIA standard (found with an ohm-meter, mic and output line are separated). I know then my Android 4.0.3 is working with a CTIA standard.
I have with me wires, a sound card (reference ), and jack 4 pin to wires adapters (reference ) (the adapters are respecting OMTP standard but we don't care because we are using 2 of them)
Firstly, I created a normal DIY setup
This setup works fine for the Android 4.0.3. Then i guess my sound card is a CTIA standard. **But unbelievably**, it works **fine** with Android 9, and **don't** work with Android 10.
Now, I know that my sound card, Android 4 and Android 9 are all CTIA standard
Secondly, I decided to create a crossover cable setup. Like this, I will force an OMTP standard with a CTIA sound card.
As expected, this setup do not work on Android 4 and Android 9. But on Android 10, an headset without mic is detected. But I'm unable to listen/play a sound on the device. When I'm switching cable side on Android 10, the headset is periodically connecting/disconnecting like with the first setup (before edit).
To conclude, I guess that my issue isn't related to OMTP/CTIA but to the protocol used by devices to find plugged headset. With the Android 4, the jack port contains a little switch to know when a cable is plugged. On the others devices, this switch is present but do not have a direct impact on the detection of a headset. I guess the switch are used to launch a program that could detect the type of the audio device plugged (headset with mic, headset without mic...)

Was wondering if it will short-circuit and damage the phone or the port itself.

I'd like to know, if it is possible to replace malfunctioning (actually: dead) headphone jack in Motorola Moto Z2 Play? I would like to do this in an repair shop (not myself), if this is possible at all.
I mean "possible" in terms of hardware. If it isn't for example an irreplaceable part of mainboard or if something else does not make such repair impossible or too expensive.
If this isn't possible or would be too expensive, what other options do I have? Is purchasing and using any [microUSB-to-jack adapter](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/316KD%2BO4upL._SX466_.jpg) the only option?
The only, of course, next to replacing the whole phone. But since audio-jack is the only problem in otherwise working and useful phone then I'd like to avoid this option as much as possible.

I have a [yarvik tab464euk](http://www.yarvik.com/en/products/tablets/tablets_10/TAB464EUK/) tablet, which I'm mostly happy with in an it-was-cheap kind of way. However, there is a particular annoyance.
I have a monitor which has a rarely-used HDMI port (my PC connects via DVI). I don't have a HDMI TV, or any kind of TV at all. Sometimes, I'd like to use my tablet as a media player using the HDMI monitor.
I can connect the tablet to the monitor without any problem, but of course it's a monitor - like many monitors, it doesn't have speakers. That's fine - the tablet also has a headphone jack socket. I thought I'd do exactly what I do for my PC - connect the tablet to the speakers separately.
Unfortunately, this doesn't work. The headphone socket works fine, but not when the mini-HDMI cable is connected. As soon as I have a HDMI monitor connected, the headphone output is switched off - I checked with two sets of headphones as well as speakers to make sure this wasn't a dodgy cable issue.
Giving priority to HDMI seems very odd to me. First, monitors with HDMI but no speakers are quite common. Second, even if I was using a TV with speakers, the obvious reason for having headphones plugged in is because I want to use those for the sound, not the TV speakers.
So... Is this a general thing with Android tablets? Is there a setting I can change to control it? Or is there any other way to get the headphone audio output to work while a HDMI monitor is connected?
I've seen [this question about splitters](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/8823/does-a-hdmi-splitter-exist-that-will-split-hdmi-into-video-and-audio) , but the price is out of proportion plus the convenience isn't there. Part of the point is to reduce hardware clutter, tangled cables etc. I already have a media player that works with separate HDMI and audio just fine, but it never gets used because it gets put away to avoid the clutter and tangle, then it's just not worth the hassle to set it up again later.
And it just seems so stupid anyway that the headphone socket is there and works, but it switches off when I most want to use it.

I did find a temporary solution using lesser audioswitch app but when i restart the phone it switches again to headphones and I have to manually put it back to speaker mode .Does any one know a way to permanently set the audio output to loudspeaker as I will not use headphones anymore . By the way I physically removed the headphone port on my phone to be sure it is not in short or something. Any solution is appreciated.
