I have a Galaxy S3 I9300 from Telcel, Mexico running CyanogenMod 10.2.0, upgraded from 10.1.3 with the upgrade feature and using TWRP for this purpose. I am unable to download anything from the Play Store, the store loads but the apps won't download. I have flashed the gapps-20130813 package, cleared data and uninstalled updates from Play Store and Google Play Services, and it won't download yet. After googling around, I already cleared data on Google Play, Google Framework and Google Play Services, every single cache with Titanium Backup, cleaned up Dalvik cache, and removed and re-added my Google account. Still no luck.
I also noticed the download notification briefly appearing for a split second when I tap Download on Google Play.
Is there anything I can't do? I don't want to go through the hassle of backing everything up, deleting the entire data partition and restoring everything.

I was using my phone (Galaxy S3 SGH-T999), not doing anything intensive, just web browsing on Chrome, then all of a sudden my phone restarts into Safe Mode.
I opened the app drawer and noticed most (possibly all, not sure) of my downloaded apps were gone.
My notifications bar was informing me that some apps were being re-downloaded.
Not sure of the reason, I just restarted the phone and it booted back up normally.
However strange things have been happening, like:
- Apps re-downloading or updating.
- Facebook app authorization failing
- All my contacts were gone. I use SmoothSync for Cloud Contacts. Opening the app asked me to enter my password. My contacts came back.
- My iCloud calendar was gone, again because SmoothSync logged out. Logging back in was no problem.
Nothing really bad has happened, but it just seems strange and random to me.
Why would Safe mode be activated out of nowhere?

How can I tell if my International Galaxy S3 is suffering from Sudden Death Syndrome? If it is, how can I fix it?

I have a 16GB International Samsung Galaxy S3 (XEF) running the latest firmware, 4.1.2 (yes, the Premium Suite update, I was thinking that this would've fixed it but it seems not) with baseband XXELKB.
Over the last week and a half, I've noticed my phone randomly freezing and/or restarting itself. I investigated further. At first, I thought it was to do with apps on the device, so I started recklessly uninstalling apps, to the point where I factory reset the device. No dice. Even with not a single non-stock app installed, it still managed to randomly freeze after a few hours of use.
I went googling and discovered that my device is likely suffering from Sudden Death Syndrome, and I'm willing to think maybe I have that. Went through XDA forums, and found eMMC Check . According to that app, I have the affected 'insane' chip.
There's a few quirks that I have, however:
1. Is this consistent with the Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) that people are reporting?
2. Wasn't this bug supposedly fixed with the Premium Suite update?
3. How do I go about fixing this, for someone who has never rooted/flashed a Android device before?
4. How do I go back to stock firmware/kernel after it has been fixed by Samsung?
Any help, even if it doesn't solve my issue, will be much appreciated. Cheers in advance.

I have a Galaxy S3 with OS 4.4.4 and am required to encrypt it for my job. I greatly prefer to use the PIN lock screen instead of the password due to the annoyance of having to type in the password every time you want to check your phone.
After updating to 4.4.4 and setting up the phone from a factory reset it will ONLY allow me to choose "Password" for the lock screen type when I go to encrypt. However, I have been able to select both "Password" and "PIN" before 4.4.4/factory reset. (now the PIN option is grayed out and says 'Turned off by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage').
What exactly has caused my phone to no longer accept the PIN? Was there some update to the security settings? Is there any way to restore the PIN functionality?

- Liquid Smooth boot and failed WLAN activation (freshest log): https://pastebin.com/ikDr9vJi
- The dmesg
output: https://pastebin.com/0caXAPAd . There is a message: "failed to power up DHD generic adapter"
**I would really appreciate any kind of help or advice. What can I still try? What could be the cause of the problem? Anything I have overlooked?**

My Samsung Galaxy S3 Sprint was hacked a couple of weeks ago. This happened after all of our laptops were hacked as well. I have strong evidence to support all are now hosting botnets. I THINK I could fix my phone if I could get it wiped. However, wiping via Clockwork Mod, factory reset, etc. leaves me with files and folders that should be wiped.
I recall seeing some config file which stated "allow factory reset" = false. I was able to make some progress by installing CyanogenMod until updates ran which put me back to square one. I can't download GApps but managed to get the Amazon Appstore. Other than that, I have fake system processes running. Such as "System UI" but when you open it up it says it's actually
android.keylogger
. You can kill all processes and it still runs, so I'm assuming the real ones are hidden.
I've found the complete root file system in three places and it appears I might be mounted to their network or system. My firewall shows constant connections between three different "companies". Same with the computers. If you block the app they are coming in through, they then say they are another app. Such as Akamai Technologies via the Amazon app. I block it and then that name and IP range starts coming through as Sprint or CyanogenMod. I've looked up all IPs and most come back linked to a backdoor trojan/spy network.
My question is, is there somewhere I can view the internal file tree so that I can compare? If I could see what doesn't belong, I should be able to get this under control via the terminal or Linux. Before anyone asks, every virus program has been run. The actual virus is gone. I'm left with the bots and a screwed-up filesystem. Once I find a way to actually wipe the device, the little nightmare bots should go too. This is 100℅ driving me nuts! I'd appreciate any help!

My device is Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 and I did a complete factory reset. The device is **NOT** rooted yet. It works properly. I can do all of the following with my device:
* Power off using device keys.
* Start in **recovery mode** and **download mode** using device keys.
* device is detected properly in **normal mode** and **recovery mode** by
adb
when is connected to PC through a USB cable
* I am able to reboot the device using adb reboot
command
* adb reboot recovery
works well.
The problem is that if I run adb reboot bootloader
or adb reboot-bootloader
commands, the device is booted in normal mode, NOT in **download mode**. The only way to reboot the device in **download mode** is to use the **Power + Volume Down + Home** keys

I have been a victim of the infamous "let's turn off anything that Apple might have a patent for" aka "dumb search " on the Galaxy S3, and looking for a simple way to return my phone to the 21st century.
All I want is the ability to find an App quickly and launch it by name, without visually finding the Icon.
---
**What I want is a set of features that existed in older versions of Android**
1. In the Apps main screen, have the ability to search (currently works only for widgets)
2. If I find an App, I can press and hold it, and it will allow me to place it on any home screen
---
Use case #1 was removed and replaced by the Google Search app, which was as mentioned above downgraded to stop including local search (only shows web results)
Use case #2 was removed and has no workaround, I need to visually find an app to add a shortcut to it
I have searched in the Android Play store for "App Search", but found nothing, should I start writing my own app?

At my sister's suggestion, I installed the [LINE](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.naver.line.android) app in my Galaxy S3. After a while I decided I didn't like it, so I want to uninstall it. Weirdly, when I open Settings > Application manager, there is no option to remove application, only "Uninstall update", which restore an earlier version of the app. The same situation when I open Google Play, the "Uninstall" button only uninstall the updates and restore an earlier version. Same luck with trying [an uninstaller ](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.uninstaller&hl=en) . I also read that some application may [prevent uninstallation](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/42427/how-do-i-remove-an-app-installed-if-the-buttons-in-manage-applications-are-loc/42438) by setting itself as Device Administrator, but I check my Device Administrators and LINE isn't listed.
I only observed this behaviour before for system apps or apps that got installed by my carrier, but LINE certainly isn't such app, I installed it myself. How could they have uninstall restriction, and how can I uninstall it?
