Why does Exchange ActiveSync not keep more than 'x' days of mail?

I have a HTC Desire X. I have set Exchange ActiveSync to download past 3 days. However, why does it not keep older mails which are already downloaded? i.e. on Friday, I can see mails from Tuesday on. On Saturdays, I can only from Wednesday on. The Tuesday email which was already downloaded and read is no longer visible? **Is there a way to make not delete the local copy of older emails?** There is an earlier question which is similar - https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/28780/why-does-stock-email-app-only-keep-25-latest-emails However I don't think the accepted answer there is relevant here. From that answer > to prevent large transfers of data that end up using the device communication thus leading to a faster battery drain; Why would keeping older mails cause large transfer of data? The older mails are already downloaded and are there on your phone. > to preserve memory consumption that in turn would leave your device slow and inefficient. Just because the older mails are there on disk, it will not increase memory consumption. A better way to program it would be display '3' days but have a way to show older ones on demand - since the app would read it from disk only on demand, it wouldn't increase memory consumption. My phone runs Android 4.0.4.

So I'm sure this is primarily because the contacts aren't listed in one of the linked gmail accounts. It's killing me because my dad can't use voice commands to call his contacts like he did on his BlackBerry. The only solution I've found so far is to export the exchange contacts to one of the linked gmail accounts. But obviously this must be redone EVERY time he changes something in outlook. So, is there some way to get voice commands to recognize the Exchange contacts? Or do I have to look for some sort of 3rd party solution that will sync the contacts between the two services? Also, he doesn't like how the contacts are listed by the person instead of by the company. Any way to change that?

Conventional wisdom tells us that 'Exchange Server' (or 'Microsoft Exchange Active Sync' / EAS) is a server-side email service from Microsoft, while 'Outlook' is a mail client. But read on ... My primary email mailbox is hosted by Microsoft through a Microsoft 365 business subscription, and I use the Outlook Client on my Samsung S23+ Android phone (Android 14 / OneUI 6.0). I'm struggling to get calendar and contacts sync working reliably (between the Android Calendar and Contacts apps and my Exchange account) so I've been poking around in the 'accounts' and 'sync' settings (which are handled centrally by 'settings' but also by the calendar and the contacts apps, and by the Outlook Client on the phone). In troubleshooting 'accounts', I noticed that Android is now offering an account named 'Outlook' alongside 'EAS' (Microsoft Exchange Active Sync) as a mail server type. Further, the only way I could get 'sync' to work reliably was to enter my Exchange account as the 'Outlook' type. Here's a screenshot showing the setup: enter image description here The left image shows the 'accounts' I have defined in settings / accounts and backup. The circled EAS account is my email account in question. The second circled account is the 'outlook' account, with the exact same identity. The middle image shows what you see as possible accounts when you choose to 'add an account' - note that 'outlook' is offered as an 'account type' alongside MS exchange active sync. And if you choose that 'outlook' account type, it prompts you for the email address (right image). The key point being, my one mailbox has been entered as both an 'outlook' and an 'MS Exchange Server' type. The 'EAS' account was added first, but I could not get sync to work, so (for reasons unclear now, probably a suggestion by someone somewhere ...) I added the 'outlook' type, and now sync is working! So my question is, why are there two ways to define the same account, and why would the second type be labeled 'outlook', when it's got nothing to do with outlook really - it's just an exchange server account hosted on Microsoft. In the 'calendar' app on Android, I couldn't get sync to work when trying to sync with the EAS account, but when I told it to connect to 'outlook', it started working!

I used to have Outlook for Android installed on my personal mobile to access my work email which runs on Office 365. I reinstalled it recently only to find that now I have to install Microsoft Intune Company Portal and make it a device administrator to proceed with logging in (I couldn't get around it by restoring from a Titanium Backup of when I had it installed before). I think this is somewhat overkill when all the same information and more can be accessed via a web browser anyway, so I don't want to give Microsoft almost total control of my phone just to get my work email and contacts if I can avoid it. I tried the app Nine because I heard that it could set the security policies to be at the app level instead of the device lever, but when I logged in, I still got nothing except one email telling me I had to install Intune. The same thing happened with the Gmail app and Mailwise, but on those, I could see an empty version of my folder directory. Somehow logging in through Cloudmagic was actually seamless as far as grabbing my email, but it has no support yet for syncing contacts between Exchange and the device. I actually wanted the contacts *more* than the email in order to get some mobile numbers. So, what's the best way to work around Intune? Installing it but neutering it via Xprivacy or another permissions manager? Finding another app that will do for contacts what Cloudmagic did for email? I'm less concerned about adding my calendar.

My Android contacts used to sync with my Office 365 (exchange server) mail account, but this stopped working. More details: I have a Samsung S10 phone running Android 11 (up to date as of this posting). I use the native 'phone' app (green background, white phone symbol) which in turn uses the native 'contacts' app (orange background, white 'person' symbol, version 12.1.20.11). Up until recently, after making a call to a new number, I could choose to 'create contact' from the 'recents' list, and that name / number would automatically show up in my Office365 account online and in my windows 10 outlook installation within minutes. Similarly, contacts added in Outlook on my laptop would show up in the Contacts list on the phone within minutes. But recently, that stopped happening. I spent days researching, experimenting, and finally today I got it working again, but I'd like to see if others agree with my conclusions and also, provide info for others who may have run into this. (See my answer posted below).

On my Phone (NordPlus 2, Android 12), I have setup an exchange Account which should sync Calendar and Contacts (not mail!) with a 3rd Party Exchange Server. Some time ago, I changed the password for this Account and recently I discovered that the sync is not working anymore (as expected after the password change). I would like to activate it again, but I can't find an option to do so. Settings -> Users and Accounts -> only shows 3 checkboxes for Mail, Contacts and Calendar and that's it. The Menu there only gives the option to sync now or remove the account. I do not want to delete and recreate the account, as I would probably loose all events and contacts on the phone associated with this account. What can I do to solve this?

Is it/how?

I have a new Pixel 6 Pro and have migrated apps and settings from Pixel 3a via my Google ID. My Google Username is my regular Outlook email address and not a Gmail address. When I now go to add my Microsoft Exchange account, I get an error message in red saying 'You have already added this account' because it sees my Google account as an email account, which it isn't. The 3a ran Outlook for me with my Exchange email address, contacts (4,000+), and calendar quite happily alongside using the same email address as my Google Username. The 6 Pro won't have it! Five different Google Help operatives over ten days have failed to provide a solution or answer my question which is: Should I get a Gmail address and change my Google Username to that and if I do so on a PC, will I be able to then add my Exchange account on the phone, and will I lose all my app data and set-up on the 6 Pro? The 3a was traded in and is irretrievable. Any ideas on here would be very welcome.

Current workaround is to check my calendar only on the website of outlook

I am creating reports based off of our Exchange ActiveSync logs. One of the fields in the EAS logs is "Device Agent" which tells me the device type and what version of Android the device is on. An example string from this field is: SAMSUNG-GT-N7000/100.20306 where the first part before the "/" is the device and the second part is the Android version. I am sure the version number maps to the Android version since these strings are different than the EAS client strings. An example of and EAS client string is "Android-EAS/2.0" where the number is the version of the ActiveSync client. Devices with those strings report the Android version in another column. Here are some additional examples of the Android version numbers: 100.202, 100.20303, 100.20304, 100.20305, 100.20306, 100.40003, 100.40004 I was able to leverage this resource for the iOS devices: http://www.onesimplescript.com/2012/06/reporting-on-apple-ios-activesync.html What I can't figure out is a mapping of the Android versions from these strings to their "friendly" names (KitKat, Ice Cream Sandwich, etc). Are there any resources available that map these numeric OS versions to the OS name?

When I signed into my e-mail for work (we're on Microsoft Exchange) there were a number of server-specified security policies (See below) *How do I avoid these?*: Device Administrators I just received a Nexus 7 and signed into my work's exchange server. When I did so I told me that the server was requiring some security settings. I don't really like those. Especially the one (not really mentioned in the image) which disables NFC which I wish to use for Google Wallet. ---------- **So my question could be answered by**: - A *non-rooting* method to disable these settings; - A different app which would allow me to still connect to the server but not enforce these security settings; - Anything else which I may be missing.
