When I am trying to connect the Grand to my PC, it gives me 2 options: MTP and Camera. MTP is media Transfer mode, and when I select it, restricts speed. On the other hand, the S2 has USB mode which works fine for me. So is there any way that I can connect the Galaxy Grand with USB mode?

When I link a phone (Android 12, Moto G Pure) to a Linux laptop, the phone pops up the following options: - file transfer, - photo & video transfer I was wondering what protocol (e.g. MTP, PTP) is involved in each option for the two phones? Is MTP enabled by file transfer, or photo (& video) transfer? What is the protocol involved in the previous "USB Massive Storage" mode?

How to prevent Android from creating "Android" and "Lost.dir" folders on external OTG storage?

If I either connect my camera using a USB cable via OTG or insert the SD card in an OTG reader connected to the phone, Android creates automatically two folders: an Android folder and a Lost.Dir folder. The problems are - 1. That as long as these two folders are on the camera (a Pentax K50), this latter thinks that the SD is not properly formatted and asks me if I want to format it or otherwise I cannot use it again. And indeed if I delete the two folders using my PC, I can then start using the card again. Obviously, I cannot format it. 2. That I cannot delete these folders on the phone without reliably preventing Android from recreating them. Also, the two folders remain on the SD even if I properly eject the OTG storage. 3. That I am going on a trip and I won't be having a PC with me to use to remove the folders. Given all of the above, how can I then transfer the photos from my camera to the smartphone?

I would like to mount my Samsung Galaxy **S7 (SM-G930F)** to an folder using **simple-mtpfs** and I cannot do it as I used to (on previous Fedora and older Galaxy S4). If I simply plug S7 to my computer, I can browse it using Nautilius, but I cannot access it in terminal as ordinary folder, what is exactly what I want to achieve. **Every time I plug S7 I check twice that it works in MTP mode, so that isn't the problem.** In the past, I simply plugged the phone and typed something as: $ simple-mtpfs /home/adam/S7 Now, I can perform it and even my phone ask me to confirm MTP choice, but the catalogue S7 is still empty. I also tried to mount it as root or ordinary user and by device number, but with no result. # simple-mtpfs --list-devices 1: SamsungGalaxy models (MTP) $ simple-mtpfs --device 1 /home/adam/S7 # simple-mtpfs --device 1 /media/s7 $ simple-mtpfs /dev/libmtp-3-1 /home/adam/s7 # simple-mtpfs /dev/libmtp-3-1 /media/s7 I even tried to do it by udev rules: # dmesg | tail [16821.258485] usb 3-1: Product: SAMSUNG_Android [16821.258487] usb 3-1: Manufacturer: SAMSUNG [16821.258489] usb 3-1: SerialNumber: 98867????????????? Why does USB Mountr cause two drives to appear?
When I mount an image in USB Mountr on Android 6 and use an OTG cable to connect the device to a Windows PC, two devices appear and two drives appear in File Explorer with the first one non-functional and the second being the image. Why does this happen and how can I prevent this?

I can see it's being recognised correctly: 01-01 18:10:24.804 0 0 I usb 1-1.2.3: new high-speed USB device number 11 using dwc2 01-01 18:10:25.010 0 0 I usb 1-1.2.3: New USB device found, idVendor=0781, idProduct=5583, bcdDevice= 1.00 01-01 18:10:25.019 0 0 I usb 1-1.2.3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 01-01 18:10:25.027 0 0 I usb 1-1.2.3: Product: SanDisk 3.2Gen1 01-01 18:10:25.032 0 0 I usb 1-1.2.3: Manufacturer: USB 01-01 18:10:25.036 0 0 I usb 1-1.2.3: SerialNumber: 0101a3136a5ad2527acb7f7f1499daffd9e96a0672c0c4bf5b3297da4b20ff1acb9900000000000000000000943a3a96ff8b520083558107b9aa4123 01-07 09:16:29.008 247 247 I drm-event-liste: type=1400 audit(0.0:857): avc: denied { read } for path="socket:" dev="sockfs" ino=14421 scontext=u:r:hal_graphics_composer_default:s0 tcontext=u:r:hal_graphics_composer_default:s0 tclass=netlink_kobject_uevent_socket permissive=1 01-01 18:10:25.054 0 0 I usb-storage 1-1.2.3: 1.0: USB Mass Storage device detected 01-01 18:10:25.086 0 0 I scsi host0: usb-storage 1-1.2.3:1.0 01-07 09:16:29.050 401 556 D UsbHostManager: USB device attached: vidpid 0781:5583 mfg/product/ver/serial USB/ SanDisk 3.2Gen1/1.00/0101a3136a5ad2527acb7f7f1499daffd9e96a0672c0c4bf5b3297da4b20ff1acb9900000000000000000000943a3a96ff8b520083558107b9aa4123 hasAudio/HID/Storage: false/false/true 01-07 09:16:29.052 401 556 D UsbDeviceDescriptor: 1 configs 01-07 09:16:29.052 401 556 D UsbHostManager: Added device UsbDevice[mName=/dev/bus/usb/001/011,mVendorId=1921,mProductId=21891,mClass=0,mSubclass=0,mProtocol=0,mManufacturerName= USB,mProductName= SanDisk 3.2Gen1,mVersion=1.00,mSerialNumberReader=com.android.server.usb.UsbSerialReader@1fdb59c, mHasAudioPlayback=false, mHasAudioCapture=false, mHasMidi=false, mHasVideoCapture=false, mHasVideoPlayback=false, mConfigurations=[ 01-07 09:16:29.052 401 556 D UsbHostManager: UsbConfiguration[mId=1,mName=null,mAttributes=128,mMaxPower=112,mInterfaces=[ 01-07 09:16:29.052 401 556 D UsbHostManager: UsbInterface[mId=0,mAlternateSetting=0,mName=null,mClass=8,mSubclass=6,mProtocol=80,mEndpoints=[ 01-07 09:16:29.052 401 556 D UsbHostManager: UsbEndpoint[mAddress=129,mAttributes=2,mMaxPacketSize=512,mInterval=0] 01-07 09:16:29.052 401 556 D UsbHostManager: UsbEndpoint[mAddress=2,mAttributes=2,mMaxPacketSize=512,mInterval=0]]]] 01-07 09:16:29.086 6446 6446 D UsbIntentReceiver: New USB mass-storage device attached. 01-07 09:16:29.086 6446 6446 D UsbIntentReceiver: name: USB SanDisk 3.2Gen1 01-07 09:16:29.088 6446 6446 D UsbIntentReceiver: serialNumber: 0101a3136a5ad2527acb7f7f1499daffd9e96a0672c0c4bf5b3297da4b20ff1acb9900000000000000000000943a3a96ff8b520083558107b9aa4123 01-07 09:16:29.088 6446 6446 D UsbIntentReceiver: productId: 21891 01-07 09:16:29.088 6446 6446 D UsbIntentReceiver: vendorId: 1921 01-07 09:16:29.088 6446 6446 D UsbIntentReceiver: isMassStorage: true 01-07 09:16:29.088 6446 6446 D UsbIntentReceiver: Checking if this is the current backup drive. 01-07 09:16:29.337 401 422 W LocationManagerService: blocking 0,0 location from gps provider 01-01 18:10:26.110 0 0 I scsi 0 : 0:0:0: Direct-Access USB SanDisk 3.2Gen1 1.00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 6 01-01 18:10:26.125 0 0 I sd 0 : 0:0:0: [sda] 240353280 512-byte logical blocks: (123 GB/115 GiB) 01-01 18:10:26.134 0 0 I sd 0 : 0:0:0: [sda] Write Protect is off 01-01 18:10:26.139 0 0 D sd 0 : 0:0:0: [sda] Mode Sense: 43 00 00 00 01-01 18:10:26.140 0 0 I sd 0 : 0:0:0: [sda] Write cache: disabled, read cache: enabled, doesn't support DPO or FUA 01-07 09:16:30.132 28 28 I kdevtmpfs: type=1400 audit(0.0:858): avc: denied { create } for name="sda" scontext=u:r:kernel:s0 tcontext=u:object_r:device:s0 tclass=blk_file permissive=1 01-01 18:10:26.223 0 0 I sda : sda1 01-01 18:10:26.229 0 0 I ueventd : vendor_create_device_symlinks: device sda 01-01 18:10:26.236 0 0 I sd 0 : 0:0:0: [sda] Attached SCSI removable disk 01-01 18:10:26.239 0 0 I ueventd : vendor_create_device_symlinks: device sda1 01-01 18:10:26.249 0 0 E ueventd : Failed to symlink /dev/block/sda1 to /dev/block/by-name/boot, which already links to: /dev/block/mmcblk0p1: File exists The only error here seems to be the `Failed to symlink /dev/block/sda1` message. But I'd expect it will be automatically mounted and visible in user space. I also know that it works for many people using Raspberry Pi and LineageOS. I also don't have any other issues with USB. I have keyboard, touchscreen, webcam and other things and all works fine. **Only storage not**. The only difference is that I am using Compute Module 4 instead of regular Raspberry Pi 4. But I cannot imagine it's a hardware issue. Any ideas what the issue might be? Alternatively: Is there a way to mount a storage that way that I can access it from GUI? As far I understand the user space is rather emulated. I tried to mount it to /sdcard/Storage but it doesn't work like that. I assume it has to be attached to the not emulated file system. **EDIT**: Additional infos as requested by Irfan. Thanks for the hint: cat /sys/block/sda/sda1/uevent MAJOR=8 MINOR=1 DEVNAME=sda1 DEVTYPE=partition PARTN=1 cat /sys/block/sdb/sdb1/uevent MAJOR=8 MINOR=17 DEVNAME=sdb1 DEVTYPE=partition PARTN=1

I'm trying to recover an accidentally deleted video from Huawei P10. I use Ubuntu, so I tried to recover it using photorec. The problem is that I can't see the mobile's internal storage or SD card storage in the list:
PhotoRec is free software, and
comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.

Select a media (use Arrow keys, then press Enter):
>Disk /dev/sda - 2000 GB / 1863 GiB (RO) - ST2000DM006-2DM164
 Disk /dev/sdb - 240 GB / 223 GiB (RO) - KINGSTON SA400S37240G
 Disk /dev/sdc - 1000 GB / 931 GiB (RO) - WD My Passport 259F
 Disk /dev/sr1 - 3504 KB / 3422 KiB (RO) - Linux File-CD Gadget
Original screenshot The first row is an HDD, the second row is SSD, the third is an external HDD, and the last row is present only when the mobile is connected to the PC. The mobile is connected to the PC through a USB cable and I've set the Transfer files option. Same result with Transfer photos. Do you know what to do?

It would be cool to make android behave as if it's a real USB drive when connecting the device to TV and PC(s). So we don't get things like "Unsupported" and make many things possible. I tried doing some diggings and found it was pretty easy in older versions of Android according to this xda post due to USB mass storage. Since it was possible to emulate as USB drive, I'm sure it still is possible now. **In Android 4.4 I found a structure sys>devices>virtual>android_usb>android0>f_mass_storage. My guess is, this can be used for emulating USB drive(guess cause, I'm a total newbie yet to firefup Android studio and write code on it). But I can't find this structure on Android 10(f_mass_storage is missing). Is there there something like this in Android 10 or any workaround with it in Android 10? **mount my system file. Create a block device mmcblk1(not sure if I used the right term, like /dev/sda in Linux). Format it with USB alike file type( like /dev/sda1 in Linux ). And somehow direct to this location when a USB cable is connected to a TV or etc throught an app. Also do I have build a USB drive protocal here instead of Android default protocol?, it's kinda getting messy..... Am I with a wrong concept to pull this off? If yes, any advice how to do it? Also any reference/article related to it would be much appreciated (as mentioned, total newbie :/ )

I am running Android 6.0. I have another Nexus 6, and it works fine. When I plug the first Nexus 6 into any computer, I have the same issue, while the second device works fine in any computer. I have tried Windows and Mac computers.

MTP works similar in terms of copying and pasting files and folders to and from the Nexus device, but for example if there's a movie file, double clicking it on Windows requires it to be copied locally first instead of just starting my media player like a normal UMS storage would. Any way to stream movies like this using MTP?

What is the cause of this problem, and how to fix it, is it even fixable without root? I searched for before I ask, but I couldn't fix the problem, maybe because I don't have root.
