I'm using Moto G 2nd Gen with Android version 6.0. I was using an external SD Card as Internal storage, and I guess it has encrypted the card. Recently, my phone started to work abnormally. It randomly fails to recognize the storage. After a device reboot, it would work for some time and fail again. In the "Storage & USB" settings menu, I clicked "Forget" on the external SD card. Then I realized I cannot access the data from my computer using the SD card reader.
How can I re-plug the SD card back as Internal Storage without formatting it again?

I'm running LineageOS 14 (Android 7) and my SD card was formatted as adoptable storage. I want to revert it to portable storage, without losing apps, so I need to move those apps back to internal storage beforehand.
However I don't know which apps are stored on the SD card just now, and checking them manually, one after the other, using the Settings menu, is quite slow and error-prone.
How do I get a list of apps that are stored on the SD card?

I use a device on Android 11, Xiaomi OEM, MIUI 12.5.7
I formatted my SD card as Adoptable storage, though I had to get that "Fix SD card" prompt to select "format as phone's storage" because, in settings, the SD card is formatted as portable by default.
Now here's the thing, after formatting the SD card as added internal storage, I can't find the SD card anymore, there's no option to unmount it in settings, can't find the additional space when I look in the file manager, is this normal?
My device is rooted BTW, any tips are appreciated, my goal is to get more space for my games, I've had little success with Link2sd, strangely the tool was working perfectly for linking game/app data to the first partition of my ext storage before I flashed my phone, now I'm left with no ideas on what to do.

It also doesn't work when you try it as 100% internal or portable. I tried formatting it as ext3/ext4/exFAT in TWRP and then using adb but it didn't help. I'm unable to find any fix on the XDA forum/Reddit. I'm pretty sure the Micro SD card itself isn't at fault as I was able to format it successfully using a different phone. (These two "unsupported flags" errors don't seem to be related to the problem).
Update:
I still can't get adb to format any drive on this phone (I encounter the same error), but I did manage to do it using a different method. First, I wiped the drive using TWRP and then formatted it using the built-in Android formatting tool. I had tried this before, but each time it would either get stuck forever at 20% or make 100% of the internal storage invisible to MTP and only suitable for app storage. However, this time it somehow worked - I have no idea why. MTP and root file manager shows only one drive of 58.90GB, and it behaves like the default internal storage. I will leave this post open as I didn't really solve the problem but more like got around it. Thanks for all the help (and grammar correction of this post :D ).

I currently have a Fairphone 4 and a 1 TB SD card. It was set up as shared internal storage. Over the past few weeks, I've been having random crashes on the phone which I think may be down to the SD card.
I've got a replacement SD. However, if I use the new SD card, I cannot access any storage on the phone at all. If I insert the new SD card and format it as internal storage, I can see a total storage of 1.19 TB in the Settings app. However, if I go to the files app, I can't browse any folders. With the FX File Manager, it just says access denied whenever I try to navigate into the
/storage
folder.
I can't install any apps/updates on the phone unless I put the old SD card back in. It does exactly the same thing if I take the SD card out entirely, unable to browse the local folders/update any apps.
I'm hoping there's a way to allow access to the new storage area without resetting the entire phone?

Here's a small backstory. A relative of mine owns a pretty low end Android phone (Redmi 9T ) running Android 12. They got the 64gb storage variant which, of course, wasn't the best idea since there was a 128gb variant of the phone for not that much more money.
It is what it is, the bottom line now is they got a 128gb SanDisk Extreme that is A2 rated and was asking if it can expand their storage. I told them they can only store photos and videos at best on that card, along with some downloaded files but they wanted to also be able to install more apps.
I was about to suggest they format the card as adoptable storage but upon looking more into it, it seems to be a one-way ticket without any way to revert back. With that in mind, I don't have any idea how it will affect the system's responsiveness as I've never tried it myself.
Based on the specs of the phone that I linked, and the fact that the card is A2-rated, do you think it'll be fine? I've read about some musings on the internet about how A1 rated cards are better than A2 because A2 has more tolerances for slower performance than A1 and A2 relied on certain things the host will do in order to benefit its supposed better performance. However, those discussions happened years ago so now in 2023, has this situation gotten better?

I have a BQ-7082G ARMOR Android 7 device, with a SD card formatted as internal storage. One day it run out of battery, shut down, and afterwards it reported the SD card is corrupt and refuses to mount it. My only options offered by the device is to reformat it (external/internal storage), something I just won't do because there is some important data on it.
Complicating matters I can't easily at least make a backup of the card because I lack a suitable reader to connect to my PC.
Side note is I just don't understand how did it get damaged at all? There was no activity for like half a day and the only purpose the device fulfilled back then was to play music. Unfortunately, I got the stupid idea to take some photos with it the day before this happened and I'd like to get them all. Other than that there was no anything else I would lose my sleep over, although getting back everything would be nice.
How can I figure out what happened to the card so that hopefully I could fix just that somehow and have the device recognize the SD card properly?

I've cloned those partitions into the "far end" of a bigger card using Macrium Reflect 8 (selecting the byte by byte copy mode w/o any analysis and optimization if I got it right) and created "external" aka "portable" partition in its free space later so that it goes first (just to please Windows). I also cloned the GUID. Unfortunately my phone is reporting "Adopted missing" upon booting up with it. What else am I missing? Many thanks in advance!

How can I free up internal memory space taken up by unmovable (to SD) and uninstallable apps?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Luna phone, running Android 6.0.1. It only has 8 GB of total internal storage space, with about 3 of those GB taken by the Android OS itself, and about 2 more taken up with stock apps I don't use/want. That leaves 3 GB for me to play around with, and as you can imagine, that doesn't allow many app installs. Most of the apps I have installed have been moved to an external MicroSD card, but there are still those apps whose developers have forbidden the option to move to SD. And on top of that, every time an app updates through Google Play, it moves it back to the internal storage, forcing me to uninstall some apps on the internal, update one app at a time, move it back to SD, then reinstall the apps I had to delete in order to perform the time-consuming process.
My ultimate goal is to free up space on my internal memory, all of which is taken by apps (anything else that I am able to put on the SD, such as files, is on the SD). Things I have tried to accomplish this:
- **Rooting my phone**: Rooting my phone would allow me to uninstall the stock apps I don't use as well as use an app like Link2SD to move
the unmovable apps to SD; this would perhaps be the simplest
solution. However, the Samsung Galaxy Luna is an uncommon phone and
it appears there is no way to root the phone (yet).
- **Adopting the MicroSD card as internal storage**: Another simple solution. This would not allow me to uninstall stock apps, but hopefully enough space would be made free from internal storage by allowing another 32 GB space of "internal memory." But because this is a Samsung device, there is no option to adopt the SD card as internal storage.
- **Using ADB to force enable the option to adopt the SD**: Another post on this site explains how to use ADB to force enable the option to adopt the SD card as internal storage on Samsung devices. But even after multiple tries, this method just simply does not work with my phone model.
These were the only methods I could find on the subject. It seems that I am out of luck with freeing up any more internal space than I have. I could try converting an app I would like to force move to an APK and editing it to enable the option to move to SD, but then I would have to repeat that process every time I want to update the app, plus I want having to hack the app to be my absolute last resort.
Is there any way to free up the internal storage on my phone, by forcing uninstall of the stock apps without rooting, by forcing adoptable storage using another means that I have not tried, and/or by forcing apps to the portable SD card using another method I have not tried? And a sub-question: is there a way to force Google Play to install updated apps straight to the SD card?

Nokia 6.1+ device using pixel experience ROM based on Android 12.
- Adopted SD card as internal storage and removed it without '**Eject**'.
- Afterwards couldn't read the data even on the device itself.
- Copied the encrypted data ( mainly images and videos) to my PC.
- Tried to make the data readable again, copied and pasted the data to another 2nd SD card by adopting it as internal storage, didn't work.
- Adopted it as Portable storage as well. Could not read the data any way.
- I Adopted 2nd sd card as Portable and internal storage multiple times but neither formatted nor "Forget" the 1st SD card
1 - Does the device store separate Keys for different sd cards when they're adopted as internal storage?
2. Can the **Original 1st key** still be inside the device system files as I didn't format or changed any system files?
3. If just one latest key is present inside the device, could this key decrypt my data which was 1st encrypted??
4. Could this last key be used to deduce the 1st key ?
I have Root access on my device and Encrypted data on my PC.
Using CX file manager can access data/misc/vold folder which contains the decryption key
But those KEYS inside are not being read by my android device.
5. How to access and Read the decryption Key(s)?
6. Then Can I copy and paste the Vold folder and save the keys on PC?
7. How to read and then use the decryption key to decrypt the encrypted data stored on my PC?
Thanks

Using Pixel experience Rom based on Android 12 on Nokia 6.1+.
Mistakenly adopted SD card as internal storage
and while the files/data was being transferred from phone to Sd card/ shared internal storage,
it got interrupted by a notification and I clicked on it to see it thinking that the file must be transferring in the background window.
Then
on seeing the files(Images)
I was able to see just their thumbnails and on selecting individually the files just kept loading.
Then
I removed the sd card without 'EJECT'
which made the matters worse.
So
I then, copied this corrupted data to my PC.
I don't know if while adopting the sd card as internal storage, the files got encrypted or not, as I was able to see the image names as they were stored before in the phone.
Then I formatted the sd card as Portable storage.
Then tried to copy and paste the data stored on my PC to SD card hoping it would be readable but it wasn't.
Then
using this sd card and another Sd card experimented by copying and pasting the PC data to then both as Portable and internal storage multiple times just to make the data readable but couldn't.
Can this data stored on my PC become readable again?
Can it be repaired somehow ?
Almost all of the 30gb data is images and few videos.
Can somebody help me to Get my data repaired and become readable.
How to do so ?
Plz help!

Using LADB (Local ADB Shell App) i tried turning my SD card into expandable internal storage (or adoptable storage, which isnt availabe on my samsung).
I am unfortunatly not able to connect my phone to a computer, but it should work the same through the local shell.
The command
sm partition disk:179,32 private
or even sm partition disk:179,32 mixed 50
should expand my current internal storage. The "mixed" option even shows half of the original cards storage as a secondary sd card in my file system, but there is no change in internal storage at all. sm partition disk:179,32 public
is not effecitve as well.
Maybe it just doesnt show any difference, but i want to be sure that this worked, and if not - why?

**Question:- Storage manager (SM) Partitioned Micro sd card but how to mount the extended partition and use it as internal storage.?**
I purchased 6 months before, Samsung Galaxy s20 Fe with android 12 with 128 GB internal memory and a 128 GB external Micro SD card. I am an IT freelancer professional, so I have a job is for testing daily 1000's of different android apps some I have keep installed to create logged reports either monthly weekly or quarterly and my other work is to do some short video advertisements or photo editing and some other GPS technical official apps to do my job in an instant go while traveling.
I want to set default installation of apps location to micro sd card, i tried but it only moves the main APK files, leaving ODBB file like data, cache, lib, and dex in internal memory thus occupying space in internal memory. I want to keep my internal memory free for output files of video editing to fast rendering of photo editing or video editing file on mobile.
I have tried Adoptable storage ( formatting external micro sd card as internal) without rooting once in my android 6.0 Marshemellow and thought it may work in android 12.0.
i tried following commands in following sequence
adb devices

Result is fine with no errors, it partitioned the micro sd card and converted formatted and mounted my 128GB card to 2 parts ie.as in mobile phone settings>storage in android 12.0 its showing 47.63GB card after commands it means its mounted and the micro external card is parted 47.63 portable is showing. but second partition is not showing in android and the files apps moved is still saving in 47.63 gb public:179,1 mounted 5C8A-85AC not the other one which is private:179,3 unmountable and not being used and remaining 80.37 GB is unallocated and not usable
I rebooted my android phone twice still.
But internal its still showing 100GB remaining and its not added and why the remaining space partition of 80.37GB is its not showing in android device how to mount or show in GUI of android and how to now 80.37GB partition as adoptable storage or format remaining 80.37GB as internal memory and extend my internal memory storage and how to use the partition in micro sd card and remaining
i tried $sm mount private:179,3 to to mount 179,3 private sd card second parition but still its hidden and showing invisible
on command ls -al /dev/block/platform/soc/8804000.sdhci/by-name/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2022-11-07 13:12 mmcblk0 -> /dev/block/mmcblk0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2022-11-07 13:12 mmcblk0p1 -> /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2022-11-07 13:12 mmcblk0p2 -> /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2022-11-07 13:12 mmcblk0p3 -> /dev/block/mmcblk0p3
it showed 3 partitions of micro sd card ie /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 & p2 & p3 but how can we mount the undisplayed parition by
mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 /data/sdext2 will it write in init.c so that its gets every time i reboot restart the android phone. by which command i can show the micro sd card hidden partition so that it can be displayed in settings-storage and wordk as adoptable internal storage
Thanks for giving time and reading my question and i will be obliged to get experts advice solution for my problem . Thanks a lot in advance for your precisous time advice and knowledge sharing and help.
