I would like to know is there any way to **backup Samsung A20s device through download mode/bootloader mode?** My device went into bootloop tried so many things only left to reinstall firmware but its lost user data so i need to backup before doing that any way? How it happens- - Charging over night besides my bed, - My hand touch the adapter and some cracks in the socket heard - The charger still working and charging other stuffs. - In the morning my device turned off randomly. - When I wakeup the device shows you >Device unable to bootup normally with suggesting three options >1. Try again - tried so many times still fails >2. Wipe app data (which is I think safe but needs a backup before doing that, thats what I'm looking for right now) >3. Poweroff - even after powered off its on again (automatically without my actions) and kept doing the bootloop Well why I mentioned the charging case is because that's the only thing i know before this happening (I'm in sleeping too not remember what happens after that),and I doubt if its any in case trouble in the mobile board so that's why I mentioned. Likely I don' think it was that but a doubt. And **I am able to enter recovery mode and bootloader mode (entering via recovery and show download mode (idk is that download or bootloader mode or these 2 things are same, I tried a backup using download mode in realme devices but not with Samsung)** And when I tried to enter recovery it shows a android image and with error text labeled under the image. It shows for a split second and boots into recovery mode. Also happens with powerup mid bootloop (when I saw this I thought some firmware bug. Because of this, that I thought the charging case is not the issue, not sure till now. Is there any way i can fix this? have any method to backup?

My Android HTC Magic was lost/stolen last night. I had an unlock swipe code, power-on SIM code and have called the phone company and had it blocked, so not too concerned about the phone itself being used by someone else. What I am thinking about is when I get a new phone, what data/info can I get back easily as I can't just copy it from the old phone now? Obviously GMail/Contacts/Calendar are all stored on the web, any purchased apps are linked to my Market login, and I'm not concerned about photos, music etc that were on the SD card. What I'm more concerned about are my preferences, settings, SMS texts, list of installed apps, prefs, data from those apps, etc. Are those all gone? Addendum: I was thinking of rooting the phone, so did take a standard Nandroid backup a week ago that I have a copy of on my PC, if I get an identical model of phone and restore that, will my data come back? Also what happens if I try to restore that onto a different model of phone (I'm assuming bad things would happen)?

Previously I had a Nokia 7.1 (Android 9) when I started to notice this issue. Every few time, the older images I had on my Download folder disappeared without I doing nothing. From time to time it happened again. I let this pass. Every time that ocurred, I manually download the images again, because I needed to have those images there. Today, I have another smartphone (Multilaser MS50X, a brazilian cellphone with Android 8.1) and exactly after a month of started using it, the older images of my Download folder disappeared again!!! I've checked some apps that I think it could be doing something like that: * Google Chrome (downloads data to this folder) * Google Photos (sync and backup images) * File Manager + (access to data and folders) * Quickpic (gallery app) But no one have an option to "automatically delete Download folders content after a while". I don't have any Clean App, neither use the function "Free up space" of Android. Also none of those cellphones had an option like "storage booster" or "smart storage" like state on this thread: https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/165200/android-phone-automatically-deletes-photos Any clue where can I look? It's annoying Regards Update: When I open Google Photos, go to 'Photos on device', and select 'Download', I can see all the deleted images (the images that should be on that folder and it doesn't)

When iOS support ends for my iPhone, I would like to replace it with a Pixel phone and go with GrapheneOS. But I am wondering: (How) can I transfer my contacts, photos etc.? (without proprietary cloud solutions) It looks like there's the possibility to [transfer those data by Lightning2USB-C cable](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/7129740?hl=en#zippy=%2Ccopy-data-from-your-old-phone-with-a-cable-recommended) . But this only works on StockROM and LineageOS, right? Not on GrapheneOS!? My idea was to buy the phone, flash Lineage (with GApps) on it, transfer the data from my iPhone, perform a SeedVault backup on an external drive, flash GrapheneOS and restore that backup on the device. Would this work? Has anyone tried? My two main uncertainties: 1. Does the cable transfer from iOS work with LineageOS? 1. Does restoring SeedVault backup between ROMs (Lineage, Calyx, Graphene etc.) work?

I'd like to set up a small bash script, which I'll write on my PC but then run from my Android phone. Objective: - When my phone connects to the Wi-Fi at home (detection possible via the SSID), the script should do the following: - When I get home, my phone connects to the Wi-Fi. - It then checks whether the static IP of my NAS is responding. - If so, it connects to the NAS via SSH. - It only copies photos and videos taken more than 2 weeks ago. - It copies them to the NAS, in a defined folder. - It deletes the source files from the phone if the copy went well. There are lots of ways of doing this, but I'm trying to find out what the best practices are for this type of automation on Android. Which applications do I use? Which way do I do it? etc. I'm open to any kind of recommendation, as long as it's good practice and maintainable! It must be professional.

Can someone help me please? I even tried to put other folders from the WhatsApp folder that I had saved in the WhatsApp folder (Media, Backups, etc.), but it still didn't work. I don't have a backup on Google Drive, so there is no such restore option.

So my Galaxy A51 finally gave up the ghost by refusing to turn on its screen anymore. I still got the (blind) use of the touch screen, as well as input via USB Keyboard/Mouse. Using that, I could, by blindly unlocking and authorizing USB Debugging, access the screen content via **scrcpy** and copy over all data files that are accessible via USB connection. HDMI over USB-C is not supported though. As a result, I already got at my personal data and chat apps. All chats, photos and contacts are safe. I can input any settings, commands and actions that are possible to input via the scrcpy adb connection. The last remaining problem is this: The scrcpy connection goes black as soon as what I assume are DRM/extra security protected apps are opened. This includes important 2FA Apps like Google Authenticator as well as all proprietary banking 2FA apps. I'd really like to get into them to backup their codes and re-setup them on my new phone. Any path to doing that?

Sadly, I have dropped my smartphone and the screen no longer properly responds to inputs (it seems to not react in certain regions and think other regions are always pressed). As such, I cannot unlock it and am struggling to backup the data from it. How can I backup a smartphone with a broken screen? The model is a Nokia C300 TA-1515. **Note**: There are a few resources online concerning backups, but almost *all* assume you are able to unlock the device from its screen. I use GNU/Linux and am fairly familiar with the command line but was uncertain if a tool like adb would assist in a situation like this. Thank you all so much for any help! I immensely appreciate it.

I was at 99% of my Google drive storage the other day, so I went into my Google storage and deleted an Android phone backup for an old phone stored on Google storage, that took up about 3gb, with my current phone backup taking about 3.5 GB. Fast forward a few days, I get that annoying red notice on my profile again, and now I check and my phone back up is now taking up 6 GB! It seems like it will take up what ever storage it is able to? I don't want to delete my phone backups outright, but I also want a couple gigs of storage for things I need, and to get rid of that red notice. Is there a way to choose what is backed up to this category (I have photos backup turned off) or to cap the size of the backup? All I really want backed up are device preferences and text messages. I definitely don't need 6+ GB of my app data and device preferences backed up.

I've installed [Neo Backup](https://f-droid.org/packages/com.machiav3lli.backup) which allows me to do (scheduled) backups of my applications data to device's file system. Now what I want is to use my PC as a storage for that backups, and transfer them via wifi. I have 2 Wi-Fi use cases: - When my phone and PC are connected to the home router, - And when my PC connected to the phone in hotspot mode. So I want backups to work in both cases. There are application named [SyncThing](https://syncthing.net) which I familiar with, but it's not suitable for my case because I don't want backups to be stored and take space on the phone at all. But one great feature of SyncThing is that both devices can find each other no matter which local network they are in. I tried [CIFS Documents Provider](https://f-droid.org/ru/packages/com.wa2c.android.cifsdocumentsprovider) , and it works, but only when I know exact IP or hostname of my PC in local network. It seems like what I really need is the similar application but with ability to find my PC no matter what IP or hostname it has. Anyone can suggest such, or maybe other solution for my needs?

Can I use dd to back up my Android 11 if it is FBE encrypted? I have looked around for guides and paths on this matter, there seems to be only one way, which is to use TWRP to back up the data while it's decrypted and flash it for restoring. I have root on my phone, the TWRP of my phone, Samsung Galaxy M40, does not support decryption. The TWRP is originally built for the Samsung Galaxy A60, but it seems to work for my device. My theory is that if I just use dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=mmcblk0.img to an SD card, reformat my phone, and reflash the disk image on the disk, I should logically be able to restore my data even though it is encrypted. The encryption key is possibly in the img as well, so all it would ask is my PIN. Some partitions are decrypted in the TWRP file manager. The actual root partition seems to be /, but when it mounts the OS and I use adb to check, it seems to chroot into /system_root, making it the / for the Android. I noticed in /data/unencrypted/key/encrypted_key, there seem to be some encrypted keys that might be responsible for the PIN decryption. So, if I image the disk and reflash it via TWRP terminal, I should be able to restore my data even though it is encrypted.

Walking around with all my security and bank accounts on my main phone makes me feel vulnerable to a 5-dollar wrench attack. Google Authenticator seems fairly painless. You export the sites you want to export. I can't see how you can do it with Microsoft Authenticator. I tried installing it on another phone and restoring it, but then the first phone ended up being blocked for about 15 minutes. How can I do this with Microsoft Authenticator?

Is there any way to backup/restore SMS and MMS messages using ADB, when the device is not rooted? * adb pull won't work here, as the corresponding database (/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db) cannot be read by ADB if it's not running in insecure (root) mode * adb shell "cat /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db > /sdcard/mmssms.db doesn't work either without root access * adb backup for some reason doesn't cover this database on the device I've checked with (empty backup – just the 41 bytes of the backup header in the resulting file) I especially wonder why adb backup doesn't cover this. If it's for "privacy reasons", then the same should apply to the contacts database – which clearly is backed up. **References:** * [Can adb be used to recover SMS messages while in permanent “Safe Mode”?](https://android.stackexchange.com/q/37492/16575) covers the same topic – but other than there, I'm not restricted to [tag:safe-mode] * [backup full sms/mms contents via adb](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/12266374/backup-full-sms-mms-contents-via-adb) (on our developers sister-site) is for a "rooted solution" (and, apart from that, a bit of age: question and answers are more than 3 years old) So: Any solution on a non-rooted device? Note that I'm ***NOT*** asking for an app-based solution. I'm fully aware there are [several apps available for this](http://android.izzysoft.de/applists/category/named/file_backup#group_133) . I specifically want a "shell based solution", to be used via ADB.

So, I've decided to try and do some analysis on my WhatsApp chat history. For that purpose, the built-in export function would work quite well, **but** it is for some reason restricted to the latest 40.000 messages. Some of my chats go back way further than that, and I'd like to include those conversations in my dataset. And that's where it gets complicated. Things I've tried so far: 1. A variety of recovery tools (drfone, BackupToolForWhatsApp,...) that invariably failed to connect and/or demanded a lot of money and/or contained malware 2. Finding the msgstore.db.crypt12 as a file on the phone and opening it as text with various apps (some people claimed that worked, it didn't though, everything just crashed or complained about the format) 3. Copying the msgstore.db.crypt12 onto my computer and there decrypting it with the key file, which led to the next problem, obtaining said key file. 4. A bunch of outdated and thus no longer functional WhatsApp key extractor tools which tried to either grab the backups off Google Drive, or temporarily install a legacy Version of WhatsApp with a vulnerability that allowed the key to be extracted. This failed because the tools haven't been updated in like three years and I'm not Java-savy enough to go digging in their source code myself. I actually downloaded a legacy APK to try and manually install that old WhatsApp version, but that only led to an error about the datetime of my phone (which was set to automatic and thus was correct) and no key. 5. Rooting my phone in order to get access to the directory where the key is hopefully located. This failed, perhaps because I did the mistake of updating my firmware to the July 2019 patch level, and so no root exploits seemed to work 6. Digging around in protected directories with tools that do not quite require root access. However, I wasn't able to locate anything that even looked like the place WhatsApp might store its key. 7. Reading through lots of forum posts on the same issue without any discernible results. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S8, model number SM-G950F, German localization, with Android 9. My question is simple: What else can I do? It can't be that it's literally impossible to dig at the messages which WhatsApp is happily storing and backing up. I'd even be willing to buy some software as long as it's reasonably priced and guaranteed to work. Also, what directory would I be looking for to get that key, assuming I'd somehow get root access? Update 28.07.2020: It seems that in some locales (specifically the EU?), the native export function was disabled in its entirety. The method detailed in my answer below still works excellently, however.

Tried to do a stock recovery backup and replace the files. While trying to restore stock recovery not showing SD card, although it takes backup in SD card during backup in same session. 2. 7Zip Windows opened the merged .backup file. It shows "2.ext". enter image description here 3. Mounting 2.ext in Ubuntu shows nothing even though file space is occupied. enter image description here 4. Currently, my camera folder is by default synced to my personal Google account. I would like to back up my WhatsApp Media folder to another account. However, Google Photos settings don't let it do so. They can be backed up to the same account. A method I found after searching is creating another User profile. I am using Redmi Note 10 Pro and have options to create a Second Space, but the crux is that the Second Space starts from no WiFi settings, no apps downloaded, and nothing is set up. Even when I try 'Move data' to move WhatsApp (for both the spaces), all it does is install a fresh WhatsApp. Moving the WhatsApp media folder to the Second Space might be an option. But it's not practical. 1. I want to continue using WhatsApp in the first space itself. So, I would have to transfer manually now and then. 2. The option for 'Move Data' in my device shows only app settings to move. There is no option to move files and folders. Moreover, I am not very sure that a Second Space can really solve this problem. Would backup from Second Space go on when I'm using the first space? I won't be able to spend a lot of time on Second Space, making the backup option yet ineffective. A solution to this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I'm nowhere near an Android dev, but I thought I'd fudged a solution by creating a Tasker routine to remove all .nomedia files within the user filesystem, via bash script. It didn't work as well as I thought it would. The only solution (hack) I can think of is to use Tasker to reset the inbuilt media scanner that Photos seems to work off of. Be interested as to how to include such a command as part of the Tasker routine I already have. I think this might be widely applcable to anyone who uses Google Photos to backup, for instance, WhatsApp pics, as the Sent folder is provided with one of these such .nomedia files, which I believe to be a big hole in the standard Android apparatus.
