So this is the situation: three days ago I was looking for my Galaxy S3 and couldn't find it. It's an extra phone, so don't use it much. So I asked device manager, and it reported it online several days ago, but gave me a location at my address. I sent a ring signal but nowhere was any sound to be heard. The app said "ringing" so it must have communicated with the phone. Since then it reported my phone unavailable and available intermittently. I have called the phone and it rings silently before switching to the answering machine, so I conclude, that it's on and probably in a charger somewhere. It doesn't run several days without charge, I figure. Checking all outlets in the house and outside, I can't find a charger plugged in. I even checked my Google play to see if there might be installed some kind of GPS faker. No there isn't. Also... six days ago my location history reported the phone to be travelling by train 120 miles away and being there for almost a day before suddenly returning back to my house. I'm puzzled, to say the least. Are there any tools to help me? Or what might be going on?

My Android HTC Magic was lost/stolen last night. I had an unlock swipe code, power-on SIM code and have called the phone company and had it blocked, so not too concerned about the phone itself being used by someone else. What I am thinking about is when I get a new phone, what data/info can I get back easily as I can't just copy it from the old phone now? Obviously GMail/Contacts/Calendar are all stored on the web, any purchased apps are linked to my Market login, and I'm not concerned about photos, music etc that were on the SD card. What I'm more concerned about are my preferences, settings, SMS texts, list of installed apps, prefs, data from those apps, etc. Are those all gone? Addendum: I was thinking of rooting the phone, so did take a standard Nandroid backup a week ago that I have a copy of on my PC, if I get an identical model of phone and restore that, will my data come back? Also what happens if I try to restore that onto a different model of phone (I'm assuming bad things would happen)?

I have a few other devices that are running Android 12 or less, is there a way to force the user to enter a password to turn it off? I did a search and it seems there is such a feature in newer Android devices by some manufacturers. One suggested way was to set up a macro on the longpress of the power button hence preventing it from shutting down. Is there a way I can achieve this even if it means rooting my phone or using third-party apps?

How easy is it for a thief to repurpose a stolen, non-rooted Android phone with both a SIM card PIN and a phone PIN?

I recently dropped a phone and I assume somebody picked it up and ran with it since it was immediately turned off. Now I want to know how easy is it to get into the phone which is running Android 12 (as far as I remember) and has a PIN on both the SIM card itself and the phone? Is there a method that would allow the perpetrator to factory reset the phone without knowing what the PIN is? I already went to Find my Device and instructed Google to factory reset the phone the next time it connects to the internet but so far, it has not been successful at resetting it. I always have data on so it could either mean the thief has not been able to unlock it or they have successfully factory reset it and are using a different Google account on it now. To be honest, I'd prefer the latter scenario so the perpetrator can just happily use the phone instead of browsing through my private files.

The phone was protected by a 6 figure password (unlock password). Is that enough to make sure that my data is 100% protected and that if someone finds the phone, they would have to reset the phone and clear all the data on it before being able to use it? Is it also impossible to access the phone's data by plugging it to a PC with a USB cable?

How to log in to a hacked Google account without phone?

I've lost access to my phone, with a Signal installation with a lot of old messages I'd rather not lose. I know that most likely I'll get the phone back within 6 months though. I would also like to be able to access my old group chats and number in the meantime, on my new temporary phone. I've understood that if i transfer my number and account to my new phone, my lost phone shouldn't lose its messages, it should just "stop all messaging and calling on your old phone" https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/360007062452-What-do-I-do-if-my-phone-is-lost-or-stolen- But when I get the lost phone back, will I be able to reactivate that installation and not lose the history? If not, would I at least be able to create a backup from it, to be able to reinstall and recover the backup? The documentation doesn't clarify exactly what a "deactivated" account is able to do. When going back to my old phone, I'd be fine with losing the short history on my temporary phone.

So is there anyway to this or any international assistance from Samsung?

I lost my Android phone on vacation that was in airplane mode (Moto G5, v7 updated). It was protected by fingerprint and swipe. I almost always use the fingerprint to unlock, but do *very* occasionally use the swipe. I locked it online remotely and remotely logged out of it when I realized it was lost several hours later. The timeout interval should be only 1 or 2 minutes. I was hoping to recover it in some fashion, so I didn't remotely wipe it, secure in the knowledge that it couldn't be unlocked. So I was surprised to be contacted two days (!) after I lost it on my other devices and accounts via an instant messaging app on the phone by someone who claimed to have found the phone and was looking for the owner. In shock I didn't reply and quickly used Device Manager to remotely wipe the phone immediately. I also changed all my Google passwords for the accounts on the phone. I checked the Gmail logins and noticed none outside of my possession. I also checked Google Maps timeline and didn't see anything outside of my possession. Oddly, though, in Device Manager I clearly did see the phone located in the city I lost it, but a distance away from where I was. A few questions: - How could a locked phone with a recent Android OS be unlocked, taken out of airplane mode, and home screen accessed? - How could the remote lock not work, assuming somehow someone opened up the phone within the lockout interval? - I saw the phone in the city I lost it on Device Manager (where I executed the remote wipe). How could it be there, but nowhere visible in my Google Maps timeline or Gmail login history? - Is there something I might be forgetting to do security wise? Thank you.

Remotely turn on location for lost/stolen phone
My Samsung Galaxy S7 was lost or stolen tonight at an airport. I can remotely see that it is at 63% battery power, but I had the Google location turned off. How can I remotely turn on the location? (I did lock the phone because I didn't password-protect it and left a message to call my husband.)

It seems that there should be some sort of device I could use that would sound an alarm when I separate more than, say three meters from my phone. Does anyone know of such a device? I tried searching for a proximity sensor but got only irrelevant stuff about the sensor that detects when the phone is being held up to the ear. It seems that "proximity sensor" is the wrong search term.
