Google/Android Device Backup taking up a lot of space on my Google cloud storage. How do I shrink it?

I was at 99% of my Google drive storage the other day, so I went into my Google storage and deleted an Android phone backup for an old phone stored on Google storage, that took up about 3gb, with my current phone backup taking about 3.5 GB. Fast forward a few days, I get that annoying red notice on my profile again, and now I check and my phone back up is now taking up 6 GB! It seems like it will take up what ever storage it is able to? I don't want to delete my phone backups outright, but I also want a couple gigs of storage for things I need, and to get rid of that red notice. Is there a way to choose what is backed up to this category (I have photos backup turned off) or to cap the size of the backup? All I really want backed up are device preferences and text messages. I definitely don't need 6+ GB of my app data and device preferences backed up.

Restore apps from backup on Google Drive
I have a backup of my old phone I can see in my Google Drive app on my new phone. How do I backup/restore all the apps from this backup? From searching, it looks like this should have been an option when first starting my phone but it wasn't. Android version: 7.1.2 LineageOS version: 14.1

Disable Google Photos backup prompt
I use Syncthing and restic to back up photos, so I don't need or want to use Google Backup. When I open Google Photos, it periodically prompts me to turn on backup. If I say "no", the prompt comes back after a few days. Is there any way to permanently decline Google Backup?

I recently deleted a large number of unwanted photo files from my phone, but it seems that Photos does not sync with the backup by also removing them from Google Drive. Can someone tell me how I can make this happen, as these deleted files no longer need to be backed up? (NB, I did not delete the files using Google Photos, but rather by connecting my phone to my PC and deleting the files. Perhaps this was a mistake.)

I'm following the tips, that are on a WhatsApp website, on what to do when upgrading phone. I'm moving from Samsung S7 to Asus Zenfone 8. Asus provides app for that, but WhatsApp is notably missing the chats. The way it's now it contains only contacts. Old phone app had no backup whatsoever, so created one on Google drive for gmail account, which is main account on both phones. It took 12 hrs, but it's done. Unfortunately new phone app says there's no backup available on that account. I verified it's the same account. Have both old and new phones, SIM is in new one. What am I doing wrong? **Update** Investigated a bit and apparently Whatsapp DOESN'T create backup on Google Drive. Every way I look at it, Drive reports 0% of 15GB used. WhatsApp reports backup of 4,1 GB has been created and it's even incrementing it when I choose backup manually. What the heck?

Has anyone experienced something similar and what is the solution?

Possible to make a copy of WhatsApp backup stored in Google Drive?
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S9. When my WhatsApp is regularly backed up to my Google Drive, the old one is deleted. I want to keep a copy of the old one, that was backed up to Google Drive. How can I do it? Or you can tell me how to make a copy to the PC if you know it too.

KeyChain/KeyStore Backup
Is it possible to backup (local or Cloud) the keys from the keychain/keystore? I know the KeyChain is a system daemon which provides secure key storage. The keyStore will provide app-specific key storage, but where are the keys located and is it possible to backup the credentials of (all) apps?

I'm migrating from a standard Google-enabled smartphone to a Huawei one, that does not have the Google Services installed. Anyway, I was able to successfully download and install WhatsApp from the official website. Of course it didn't find the Google Drive backup because there is no such a Google account. Looking at the documentation , I copied the files inside WhatsApp/Databases from the old phone to the new one and reinstalled WhatsApp. But it still says it cannot find a backup, and leave me with a blank chat history! I also tried to copy the content of WhatsApp/Backup too, without success. Why it does not work? According to the documentation, copying a local database should work! Of course I'm using the same phone number. UPDATE -- I tried the procedure suggested by the first link posted by alecsx. But it didn't work. I've purchased a new phone and have transferred most of the data from the old device to the new one using various means. There is one app, however, that does not have account login, so I cannot save cached data in the cloud. Meaning that I have no choice but to move/restore the app to the new device with the offline (cached) data. This app is quite important to me, and I need the offline data. I know of the following techniques to do this: - Backup and restore app + cached data using Helium: copy & replace the 'sdcard/carbon' folder from the old phone to the new phone. After doing this, *restore* the app with data on the new phone. - Root the device and use Titanium backup to do the same. - Backup apps using the 'Backup' feature in Google Drive. Helium just did not work (with a brand new phone with Android 8.0!). I cannot use Titanium as I cannot root my old phone at this point (before backup is complete). And **restoring** the app this way will in all likelihood require that I root my *new* phone as well, which is a deal-breaker. Does Google Drive Backup work with all third party apps? I did not see the app I want to save in the list of apps whose data was being saved by Google Drive. What should I do? Can anyone advise? **EDIT**: All of the techniques given on various sites for both partial and full backups (including nandroid backups) are *device specific*, i.e. you can restore to the *same* device only, not from one device to another. This includes both **Droid Explorer** and **Simple ADB Backup** too, apparently. Is there no general way of restoring an app with data to a new phone without root? Google Drive backup does this without root. If it can do that, why can't other apps? Also, various people suggested using **MyBackup Pro** / **Android Assistant** / **DrFone+**. All these tools give up before even trying: they *all* seem to require root.

How can I confirm that all apps installed via the Google play store are still available on the Google Play Store, so that when I restore my backup via my Google account I don't have apps missing. I would do this by using an Apk Exporter to store the apps which are no longer available on the Google Play Store.

I have Google backup turned off permanently, however my contacts are still backed-up somewhere to Google cloud. I discovered that yesterday from another device that offered me to recover my contacts from a current backup. I'm perplexed because when I open Google Drive app, it says that my device is not backed-up. **Questions:** 1. Where are the contacts backed up? On G-Drive, or elsewhere in my G-Account? 2. What more can I do to prevent Google from downloading my data to its cloud? **Details:** I have LG G6 (LG-H870, Android 8.0.0). In the Settings I have set: * Backup > Google Backup > Backup to Google Drive: Off * Users & Accounts > Auto-sync account: On, otherwise my (non-Google) e-mail is not synchronized, but: * Users & Accounts > my-google-account > Sync: all four sync switches are Off In the Drive application: * Left menu > Backups: "Your device is not backed up" My other phone is Xiaomi Redmi 4. Here: * Settings > Google > Restore contacts> Device backup list: It offers me to restore my contacts from LG-H870 created today. When I proceed, all my contacts are really restored. The Google documentation for contacts backup, https://support.google.com/contacts/answer/7199294?hl=en instructs how to turn-off contacts backup. The description of Settings > Backup > Google Backup > Backup to Google Drive says that: > "Backup includes: Apps and app data, call history, **contacts**, device settings" **Edit:** I've verified that my contacts are not in Google Contacts for my account.

But it's only uploading new photos and I cannot find the way to make it upload the older photos in standard quality. How to solve it?
