I have a Nokia G42 5G with Android 13. A week ago, a notification popped up, asking me to download the latest update (and also that that update was a week behind). Since the size was 2.67 GB, I decided to close the notification at the time; I would install it later. A quick search afterwards revealed that it was an upgrade to Android 14 . When I went to download it later (from Settings → System → System update, then Check for update), it keeps showing “Your system is up to date”. This is how it has been since. Now, I know that that is not the case because - there was that notification, - someone I know uses this very device (model) and they have already upgraded (means, it has been released in our location/market), and - one could check from Nokia’s Website that that update has been released. **My question is: how can I get that update?** I have installed Google Play system updates and what not. I have also cleared the ‘System cache’ app (don’t know what this app does) from Settings → Memory. I have tried using both WiFi and 5G data while the device was charged to full. Screen-shot of ‘System cache’ app in ‘Memory’ in ‘Settings’ **What else can I do?** May be allow unrestricted data access to some app? May be clear some cache to force fetch that update? I won’t flash a custom ROM but I am willing to reboot to safe mode or connect to a computer to clear some hidden cache or run some code. Technically, it seems to be possible to postpone updates ; the system will fetch them later . **Is it possible to reset that waiting period instead of waiting it out?** (If that has been the case; my device is my own, not managed.) ---------- On a related note: I recently had a run-in while installing the 2024-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5034765) update on Windows 11. It downloaded, started installing, computer restarted, it installed all the way to 100%, and then rolled back with a “Something didn't go as planned” message. This happened quite a few times. I tried all kinds of solutions from all around. At the end, it turned out that all I had to do was rename/remove the
:\$WinREAgent
folder
. And it worked in a snap! So, I know that software work in mysterious ways!

I'm trying to unpack Android 13/14 ROMs from a set of different vendors but it seems that all images using Android 13+ have some changes in how the filesystem images are built. Using simg2img (simg2img ./system.img ./system.raw) I'm capable of converting the sparse system.img file of a ROM correctly into some unknown image format. Inspecting the converted image shows that it no partition is detected. For Android version below 12 usually it was an ext4 partition.
file ./system.raw
./system.raw: data
However, the file command shows that it is recognized as a data partition. So I guessed that we need to identify some offset to be able to mount or convert this image correctly. I tried to identify if the partition is a F2FS image (following [this tutorial](https://baremetallics.com/blog/how-to-extract-f2fs-android-flash)) but wasn't successful in identifying the magic bytes for F2FS. Does anyone know how to mount or convert Android 13+ ROMs? Are there any good script out there to automate it?

Is it possible to set a different language with an adb shell command? adb shell settings get global settings_app_locale_opt_in_enabled returns null, so I'm not sure if it's even implemented at all. Smartphone is rooted with Magisk.

I had an Android (Samsung Galaxy) smartphone with AT&T providing the carrier service. Because AT&T owns DIRECTV, they allow unlimited streaming on their DIRECTV app using AT&T's cellular network data that does not affect your normal internet or hotspot data limits like it would for, say, Netflix. That allowed me to stream DIRECTV with no data limits or surcharges to my phone over the cellular network while traveling in my RV. I would then use the "Smart View" (Miracast) feature on the phone with my Amazon Firestick/TV to connect the two devices over a direct-WiFi connection (the Firestick has a wireless transmitter/receiver built in to facilitate this connection). The direct-WiFi connection ability that "Smart View" used was important because the connection used this feature instead of demanding a WiFi connection to the internet over AT&T's network, eating up my data limit, negating the advantage of the unlimited streaming if I was required to access the internet using AT&T's cellular network or hotspot capability. I recently upgraded to a new Galaxy A14 5G phone running Android 13 to get the benefits of 5G. Samsung/Galaxy, in their infinite wisdom, deleted the "Smart View" functionality, "replacing" it with "SmartThings", which not only requires a WiFi connection to the internet or a special SmartThings hub/router to function, and in addition, it does not support Amazon Firestick or many other devices "Smart View" used to support. Any help or constructive guidance on how to get "Smart View" or a similar app that only required a direct-WiFi to implement the screen mirroring capability would be appreciated. I have been hunting for such an app for weeks now.

I have an ASUS Zenfone 8 running Android 13. When I try to use Android Auto in my car, it only works when I connect via a USB cable. My car supports wireless Android Auto and this does work with other Android phones, but no matter what I try the Zenfone just won't play ball. The phone recognises that a wireless AA connection is available and asks me to "continue on my car screen" but nothing appears on the screen. Even if I try to force a connection via the car, it just says "connection failed". The car pairs with the phone via Bluetooth no problem, but just won't launch wireless AA. As I say, it has no problem with other Android phones so this must be Zenfone specific. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Is it still possible to select the location mode which doesn't require you to turn on gps? Back then one could select battery saving mode which used WiFi scanning or mobile networks to detect location, albeit not very accurate when compared to using gps. In Android 13 by using tasker or modifying secure settings database this is still possible, but it still turns on gps which is undesirable. Is there a workaround that strictly relies on WiFi scanning or cell towers? I thought to use a different location provider Unified Nlp, however the device is not rooted so I can't patch it to system in order to use LocalGSMBackend or similar, so am basically stuck.

I completed the data transfer, but my old wallpaper (a picture I took a long time ago which I really like) didn't transfer. I cannot find it in the wallpaper and style control on either phone, and I've tried looking everywhere in the data folder I can think of when the S20 is connected to my PC. This is a picture that I believe I had on a Galaxy S8 and it transferred to my Galaxy S20. I'm trading the S20 in and need to get it in the mail soon. I appreciate any help/advice you can give me.

I'm using Infinix Note 30 with Android 13. I'm currently trying to achieve location privacy on my phone. I have denied location permission for all apps (except system apps and Google Play Services, because I cannot disable it, it says device need permission to operate), I also disabled all "location services" because I figure these location services are collecting my location data. I only enable these services when I desperately need the GPS and disable them when I no longer need (the GPS is really bad without these location services, maybe it was intentional to punish user for disabling them by not adding necessary GPS feature to base android?). Then I realized apps still can track my location through "nearby device" feature in two ways: 1. By scanning for nearby device on my phone 2. By scanning for nearby device on other phone near me and figure out my approximate location if my phone was detected on that other phone Fixing 1 is easy, I simply deny nearby device permissions for all apps (except system apps, because I cannot disable it, it says device need permission to operate). I also disabled "Bluetooth scanning" to stop apps and services from scanning for nearby devices. Fixing 2 on the other hand, I cant find the option to disable nearby device feature. I only can deny nearby device permission for app in my phone, but I can't find the settings to disable nearby device feature to prevent other phone from scanning my phone. Does anyone know where is the settings to disable nearby device feature? Denying nearby device permission is not enough, I need to disable the nearby device feature itself.

Android 13 and 14, under settings, there's only options for SIM specific ringtones: enter image description here There's no "Default" ringtone! (NOTE: screen shot from websearch. I'm using a stock android on a PIXEL, and on a MOTOROLA. Both have the same options as the screen shot, which is for illustration that there is "ring tone" for each SIM card, and no "default") Yet, every app is set to use "Ringtone: Default"! This causes apps like whatsapp, to ring for whatsapp calls using the original default of the phone (which is NOT set to either SIM card's ringtones)... now i get the atrociously horrible and unbearable "hello moto" ringtone for those apps. I could configure every single app to use a different ring tone, but why if they are all using the "default"... the question is how do i set the "default" i want? I cannot believe google screwed up that bad again and there's no way to set it. I just think this is usual google usability and the setting is hidden in some completely non-obvious place. -- Another tidbit. I have four phones. Pixel pro with one SIM card and one E-Sim. (both being used) Pixel with one SIM card and one E-sim (only physical sim present, esim empty) Motorola with one SIM card and one E-sim (only physical sim present, esim empty) Motorola with two physical sim cards, but only one inserted. On all phones, they run android 13 and 14, stock from manufacturer. And the ringtone settings are exactly the same as the included screenshot (but with the regular Material design styling)
