I'm trying to unpack Android 13/14 ROMs from a set of different vendors but it seems that all images using Android 13+ have some changes in how the filesystem images are built. Using simg2img (
simg2img ./system.img ./system.raw
) I'm capable of converting the sparse system.img file of a ROM correctly into some unknown image format.
Inspecting the converted image shows that it no partition is detected. For Android version below 12 usually it was an ext4 partition.
file ./system.raw
./system.raw: data
However, the file command shows that it is recognized as a data
partition. So I guessed that we need to identify some offset to be able to mount or convert this image correctly. I tried to identify if the partition is a F2FS image (following [this tutorial](https://baremetallics.com/blog/how-to-extract-f2fs-android-flash)) but wasn't successful in identifying the magic bytes for F2FS.
Does anyone know how to mount or convert Android 13+ ROMs? Are there any good script out there to automate it?

Pressed on image in gmail, created a ghost image that would not go away and prevented interacting with screen--why?

I have an old Samsung Galaxy S7 running Android 8.0.
I was using the Gmail app version 2025.03.16.738445112.release. I opened a message from a trusted contact that contained a reference to a Google doc (a JPG file). Because I do not display images by default, I could not see it, so I touched "Show pictures."
The app displayed the image, which I wanted to expand. It would not zoom in, and nothing happened when I simply tapped on it. So I pressed on it for a few seconds, and thumbnail "ghost image" appeared near the middle of my screen. It was semi-transparent and appeared on every screen I could navigate to.
Unfortunately, it also seemed to limit my interactions with the screen, and when I locked the phone, it appeared on the lock screen. I could not interact with the lock screen: swiping to unlock the phone did nothing; swiping to answer the phone did nothing; swiping to make a call did nothing; touching the notification bar did nothing; I could not turn the phone off because tapping the power/restart icons did nothing.
Eventually, I force-restarted the phone, and the problem seems to have gone away.
Below is what it looked like on the lock screen. It appeared on all screens in the same place.
Additional info: Gmail using my laptop browser rendered the attachment properly, and I was able to interact with it, no problems.
Can anyone explain this strange behavior?

When choosing a background/wallpaper image that has a very different size ratio than that of my screen, Android will choose to expand my picture until its height matches that of the screen. In the process, the width gets expanded too, even beyond the screen width if necessary. That means that much of the image is missing (left and right of the center part, by default - but the portion that is visible can be changed).
How can I prevent this from happening, or otherwise choose the zoom factor with which my image gets set ?

I imagine this might be easier on an emulated Android device, however, I am not sure.

When media are received through WhatsApp groups and contacts, they are stored in the storage and are available for the media scanner to list them. When I view the
WhatsApp videos
folder in MXPlayer, I see the videos that I received through WhatsApp.
Occasionally, when I see such an interesting video or image, I forward it to some people or groups, but later to realize that I received it through them. This strikes only when I open the chat history to see the same media sent by someone else.
**Question:**
In this situation, I want to find out the sender (or the group) without opening and scanning the WhatsApp messages to avoid this embarrassment. I guess the file naming convention only helps to find the date and time.

How can I change the Home Screen wallpaper via ADB?
I know this question has been asked before, but none of the answers I read provided a way to instruct the phone to set only the Home Screen wallpaper. The Lock Screen wallpaper should remain unchanged.
For example, the following command works fine, but immediately after I send it to my Xiaomi phone, I get a popup window asking me which wallpaper to change: Home Screen, Lock Screen, or both.
~~~
adb shell am start \
-a android.intent.action.ATTACH_DATA \
-c android.intent.category.DEFAULT \
-d file:///path/to/my/image/on/device.jpg \
-t 'image/*' \
-e mimeType 'image/*'
~~~
I'm looking for a way to change the Home Screen wallpaper automatically, without any manual intervention.

List of supported A/V and Image Codecs
Using ADB, is it possible to obtain a list of audio, video and image codecs supported on a given device? Whether or not they physically play is another story. I'm just trying to poke the device and get a list back so I can attempt to play whatever, say Nexus 5 supports. Thanks.

I'm using my Android device to scan receipts for warranty receipts, or for expensive stuffs. I'm uploading the receipts to Google Drive which works well, except that it's a long process to scanning each receipt.
I open the Google Drive, enter the right folder, click the button for creating a new file, choose to take a new picture, take the picture, then rename the newly created file to something more fitting i.e. name of item or store name and date, and then enter my Gallery and delete the picture from the camera roll because I don't want it there.
Also, if possible, I'd like to crop the image, or even stitch 2 pics together if the receipt is too long.
Well, you get the picture. Is there a better way of doing this?

So, I tried to connect my Phone to my Laptop via USB cable, but still some of my photos and videos (with the same amount) are not showing up in my PC File Explorer.
The picture and video Files that do not appear, are years older than the current phone I own.(I bought this Phone after 2020 but the photos and videos are from before 2020)
If possible, a clear-cut explanation in simple English would be helpful.

I am just wondering if this is a hardware feature or software. I can handle the software issue(with root) i think. And if this is not possible then can you please explain why and how it works (totally optional)?
If this is possible then people will be able to take videos from both cameras (the poor cameraman will also be included in the clip).. and that would be pretty cool IMO =)
Every little opinion or googling is accepted. Thanks in advance :)
