Is it possible to view files on an SD card encrypted with Gallery Vault on a computer?
I had some files/photos, etc. on the Gallery Vault app on my phone - they were saved to my SD card. My SD card has been lost/possibly stolen. I just wanted to check if someone could access these files in any way? I assume the answer is no, but just wanted to check.

When I wanted to copy some photos and videos from my Samsung Galaxy S to my PC, I noticed that inside the photos folder (
DCIM\Camera

. They have the same filename as the photos/movies (e.g., img1.jpg and img1.dup0), but not for every photo does a dup0
file exist. The dup0
files are quite small for photos (e.g., photos are about 1.5 MB, dup0 files about 50 kB), but for movies, they can be quite large (e.g., 16 MB for an 18 MB movie).
What are these files for? Can they be deleted to free some space?

Is there any way to make the files visible to Slack without a reboot?
Things I've tried:
- restarting slack
- force-stopping and restarting slack
- Uninstall the entire slack app, and reinstall it
- running sync in Termux
- restarting both Termux and slack multiple times
Phone Samsung S24U, Android 14, not rooted.

Do you guys know some way (built-in way, third party app or library, Termux specific command, idk) to be able to launch some camera app in order to be able to point the camera and take the photo, and then return to the terminal in order to handle it.
It would be nice to write it directly into Termux's storage, but it's fine if I can write it literally anywhere.

I'd like to delete some files on my Android device (Xiaomi) by deleting files stored by WhatsApp that I didn't save in my gallery.
I have a few questions.
1) If I understand correctly, whenever I send a media by WhatsApp (being it a video recorded in the app or a video/picture already existing in my gallery) it creates a copy of the media in the following folder. Is it correct?
Internal memory\Android\media\com.whatsapp\WhatsApp\Media\WhatsApp Video\Sent
Internal memory\Android\media\com.whatsapp\WhatsApp\Media\WhatsApp Images\Sent
2) If I delete those media (even if they were originally in my gallery), will I delete them also from the gallery or only from that folder?
3) I see that in my gallery I have some media from Internal memory\Android\media\com.whatsapp\WhatsApp\Media\WhatsApp Video
. These are the media I received by WhatsApp and I saved in my gallery (be default or explicitly). Is it correct? In this case, if I delete them, I would delete them also in my gallery (meaning I won't have them anymore on my device).

I have tried to use Google Images or Lens, and it tells me that it's not capable of doing this, which I know is a lie. I have also tried using other apps like Criminal Checks, etc. At one point, it told me that my info had been on the internet since 2019. So, I know something is out there.

I see that whenever I send via WhatsApp a media already existing in my device, being it a picture or a video, the app automatically creates a copy of it in
Internal memory\Android\media\com.whatsapp\WhatsApp\Media\WhatsApp Images\Sent
Internal memory\Android\media\com.whatsapp\WhatsApp\Media\WhatsApp Video\Sent
This means that if I take a picture with my phone, then send it to two chats I get two copies of it in
*\WhatsApp Images\Sent
.
Is there a way to prevent this?
Alternatively, should I delete all files in those folders by hand or is there a better way of doing it? I don't want to occupy space in my memory with duplicates.

When media are received through WhatsApp groups and contacts, they are stored in the storage and are available for the media scanner to list them. When I view the
WhatsApp videos
folder in MXPlayer, I see the videos that I received through WhatsApp.
Occasionally, when I see such an interesting video or image, I forward it to some people or groups, but later to realize that I received it through them. This strikes only when I open the chat history to see the same media sent by someone else.
**Question:**
In this situation, I want to find out the sender (or the group) without opening and scanning the WhatsApp messages to avoid this embarrassment. I guess the file naming convention only helps to find the date and time.

[MX Player](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.pro) is able to play .gif files, but does not populate its list views (i.e., internal file explorer) with them, even when explicitly defined as an extension through the relevant settings page (it accepts the change and refreshes with no error message, but nothing new loads on the front end and going back in reveals the added entry does not persist). The only way to play them is by opening through another app
as video
, and then selecting MX Player. I've reached out to the dev team but they have advised that as far as they are concerned, this behavior is in line with their expectations according to their categorical interpretation of the .gif file extension not qualifying as a "video" media file container (a distinction I fail to comprehend, much less concur with). In any case, I'd like to see if there's any method to take matters into my own hands, e.g., any .cfg files or similar preference store that can be modified directly to "force" persistent recognition and enumeration of the file extension?

My phone is an HTC 10. I'm trying to understand what the Storage Manager option in the Storage settings is supposed to do. The text says "Remove photos & videos" and I chose the option "Over 90 days old". So far, it hasn't done anything.
I've found some articles introducing the feature that seem to imply that ALL backed-up photos will be removed every 30/60/90 days.
In Photos, the "Free up space" option removes anything that's already backed up, regardless of age.
So does the storage manager option do what it says it does? When or how often does it run? Does it instead clear all backed-up photos every X days?

Whenever I use the media apps i.e gallery or any other app like file manager (the apps that require internal storage mostly), the apps close automatically after running like 5 seconds and upon reopening, the contents of app (the media/data that it was displaying) couldn't be found. I have to open them 2 to 3 times and clear it from memory using recent app button (not physical button). Than the contents i.e media show up and again disappear after few seconds and app closes.
Chrome runs fine as long as I'm browsing and abruptly closes within 5 seconds when a download is started. Same is in the case of YouTube reddit or any browsing app that I'm using. They [YouTube, reddit, chrome (when not downloading)] run fine for as long as I want.
Whatsapp throws an error saying "internal storage is missing" or "turn off USB storage" when downloading or uploading files but downloads media occasionally. Text messages don't throw any error. Just the downloadable files that require internal memory.
When I connect the phone to the PC via cable, the PC shows a number of internal storages, ranging from 1 to 20 or more. Depends upon the amount of duration that the phone was connected with PC. Firstly it shows 1 internal storage than keeps on showing more, having same information i.e 35 GB out of 109GB are free on every single one of them, with passage of time. Gallery will first show up as empty and after 1 or two seconds, show the media. The media is readable for few seconds and than the files will say "cannot generate thumbnail" or "cannot play video". I than clear the app from memory using recent apps button and again open it and clear it from memory 2/3 times. Than the media again shows up for 5/10 seconds and is perfectly readable or playable. If I don't clear it from memory, the media also comes back after 5 or 10 seconds and is playable for 5 to 10 seconds. LoL, looks like I'm writing same thing again and again. I don't want to rest until it's the only option (which it is). Infinix note 10 pro (X695), Android. Non rooted. No SD card is put in it.
I've tried everything that I could hear or read off. Clearing app cache using adb commands, clearing app data using abd commands (lost xhide data and was signed out of accounts due to this). Making a list of installed packages and using adb command to again install them for user 0. Installing third party virus scanning apps like Microsoft defender mobile (premium) and avast antivirus and avast cleaner app and CCleaner app etc etc etc to clear the hidden caches and scan for viruses. And probably everything that was not the solution for this issue.

Does anyone know of an app, or a command, that examines a file and returns a filetype? Ideally one that can then append the correct extension.
I believe most of these files are probably ebooks, PDFs, or some kind of media. If any of them are actually exes, I want to delete them, not run them.

But WhatsApp still has to store media in some location, otherwise, how would it show in chats? I am able to access the media while scrolling through a WhatsApp chat, even while offline, so the media is definitely getting stored somewhere on my phone. Can I access this location? I have to access many media files that WhatsApp must have downloaded somewhere on my phone.
I am using parallel WhatsApp on my One Plus 5 Android phone. It creates a "999" directory under emulated.

How does the app achieve this - is the original video stored somewhere forever?
This would namely explain why my storage was bloated with more than 75Gb of "System storage". As a musician, I take long videos which I edit in short snippets, and have no interest in this reverse edit functionality most of the time.

When I save a photo from the FB app, it gets saved to the Facebook folder $EXTERNAL_STORAGE/DCIM/Facebook/. I want to change this folder destination to my pictures folder $EXTERNAL_STORAGE/PICTURES/Facebook/. One would think this would be obvious for FB.
I've checked Android settings, Facebook app settings and Googled for both, but can't find anything certain. I'm not sure if it's a Facebook thing or a samsung thing. Here is a kicker for you; in a weird way when saving a meme from Memories in the FB app, it once in a while saves that picture, by default to Pictures/Facebook. For most of the time, pics get saved to DCIM/Facebook by default. As if FB can't make up its mind. Photos of which I'm talking about are all memes.
I managed to find and change the default location for my screenshots from $EXTERNAL_STORAGE/DCIM/Screenshots to $EXTERNAL_STORAGE/PICTURES/Screenshots in Android settings. And this got me thinking, can I do the same for my FB downloads folder?
I don't use FB for taking photos or videos. I'm not looking to move or sync my photos to another folder. I'm looking for a solution of changing the the folder destination like I did with the Screenshots folder. This would avoid having to move or sync my files to another folder altogether.
Samsung A13, Android 13
Thank you in advance.

I’m trying to make a backup of my music playlists, that I've created using the Samsung Music app on my Samsung Galaxy A6 (Andriod 10).
So far I’ve not been able to locate where these playlists are stored, and neither a way to extract them.
Most forum questions about this problem either hold old outdated answers, or none at all.
Does anyone know a way to extract Music Playlists (preferably as a text file)? Or by using some app for it?
