My phone is an HTC 10. I'm trying to understand what the Storage Manager option in the Storage settings is supposed to do. The text says "Remove photos & videos" and I chose the option "Over 90 days old". So far, it hasn't done anything. I've found some articles introducing the feature that seem to imply that ALL backed-up photos will be removed every 30/60/90 days. In Photos, the "Free up space" option removes anything that's already backed up, regardless of age. So does the storage manager option do what it says it does? When or how often does it run? Does it instead clear all backed-up photos every X days?

On Xiaomi Mi Note 10 I can't clean the caches of apps. A workaround for cleaning the caches that worked partially was to make the Google PlayStore display the warning about missing disk space for an app update (by filling all available disk space) and clicking "Zum Speicherplatz" (go to disk space) then clicking on "Data in cache" to delete that cache. However, that does not delete all the app caches, only what is detected by the playstore and cache-cleaning apps that do not show the same don't work at all. When I try deleting the app caches with a cleaning app, it runs without an error but no disk space is actually freed up afterwards. Also it displays that lots of system app each have a cache of the same size (for example 50 MB each and 1 GB overall) and doesn't display the actual apps with large caches, but this may vary. It does not run without an error with the cleaning app "1 tap cleaner" which doesn't work at all because the buttons are greyed out when it tries doing the below automatically. When I go to manage apps and open an app there, the "delete data" (and the "force quit") button(s) are disabled (greyed out) and "disk space" displays "0,00 B". On a previous phone the same apps also had a lot of data in the cache but I could always delete them manually and with cache cleaning apps. Here's how I know that the caches of some apps are larger and that they haven't been deleted (beyond that there should be more disk space left): there's a stock app "Deep cleansing" ("Tiefenreinigung") and it shows which apps take up a lot of disk space (when clicking on "Apps" on the page). The buttons for the apps are also greyed out for but I could delete their large caches on another Android phone. Screenshots: Deep cleansing app caches App cache in manage apps ---- An app taking up a lot of storage space with its cache that is not shown in the first screenshot is the stock Gallery app by Mi UI which can't be deinstalled and also has the delete data button greyed out. At least that what a scan with SD Maid shows. When I go to "Deep cleansing" ("Tiefenreinigung") app data at the bottom only shows Uninstall (no more uninstall button). It shows the data size right next to the apps but these can't be sorted and **most apps show 0.00B** which is clearly false. A way to still see the largest apps is to use the app **Cx file explorer -> Analyze -> Apps** and it shows multiple apps that have a file-size much larger than it should be which doesn't change or doesn't change much after deleting the cache with a cache cleaner app that shows the same thing as Playstore for deleting caches. Their filesize is much smaller when uninstalling and reinstalling the app. In the right screenshot you can see how the delete data button is disabled and this is the case for most apps. **Is this normal for this phone?** The stock cleaning app doesn't delete as much data as the app says it would delete so even that can't delete that data. The only cache cleaning tools that work look like this (screenshot taken from here ) but it also doesn't delete all the cache when clicking on "Cached data": enter image description here

I read on https://techcult.com/how-to-delete-uninstalled-app-data-on-android/ : > The “CorpseFinder” option is specifically there on the SD Maid to find any leftover files from apps that the user has already uninstalled. It will search and display all such files. Either user can choose to delete all of the files, or if they feel they need any specific leftover files, they can individually select the leftover files they want to remove. Overall, SD Maid is a great, safe, and effective option to remove leftover files after uninstalling apps on Android operating system mobile devices. How does the app [SD Maid](https://sdmaid.darken.eu/) find leftover files from apps that the user has already uninstalled?

Like, "uninstalled, system apps with their associated apk, if any). Looks easy, but it just doesn't work for me. Or should it?

It's not a duplicate , because this question isn't about shredding files that already deleted, it's about deleting them in the first place in a way that recovery software wouldn't find it. I delete photos, but this software FindMyPhoto still recovers them. I think photos are really deleted, and those that restored are thumbnails, because when I restore them they doesn't look that sharp. I delete photos through the Gallery application. I tried to clean Gallery app cache, that doesn't help. I tried to use firmware (preinstalled by manufacturer) that cleans Android of junk (like cache etc), but the application above still finds it. And I don't know how to completely remove the files. It's like I've got a device with undeletable files and starting really hate Android (it's really betrayal and annoying behavior). So if you could recommend some application may be (preferably from a well known company or free software, like those from F-Droid repository) I would appreciate it. Thanks.

How to find remaining files and folders from already deleted applications?
I see folders `.com.taobao.dp` and `anycast` with some files (about 500Kb) but Taobao and AnyCast applications were deleted a long time ago. So, is there a way/tool to find such files? (for example by application name or package?)

In the phone's stock file browser's cleaner it shows me that apps like Soundcloud take up lots of storage space but it only offers me the option to remove the app entirely instead of deleting just the cache. When I go to Android settings -> manage apps -> Soundcloud (App-Info) it shows me that it takes up 0.00B of disk space and the button Delete data at the bottom is disabled. I already ran the "Junk Cleaner" of "Phone Cleaner " by "Super Cleaner Studio" to remove all apps caches but it looks like it didn't work (from the browser cleaner and from the available storage space). * How to clean app caches in Android 11 in a way that actually works (including for the Soundcloud app and for all apps at once)? * Why is it not a built-in feature of Android to clean all (or multi-selected) app caches at once and one needs to install apps like "Phone Cleaner" to do so? **Edit**: I could clean the cache now. I could do so after turning off night mode / reading mode (it reduces blue light) and using the cache cleaning of Playstore when it displays that you lack disk space. **Edit 2:** it works without turning off reading mode but only with the data management by PlayStore now, I think at that specific point in time after running off reading mode Phone Cleaner removed the caches too but not anymore. The problem is I don't know how to open the PlayStore data management, it only sometimes shows when the disk space is full in PlayStore. I'll try if it still works with other ways to clean the cache such as Phone Cleaner and/or without turning off reading mode.

SD Maid installed service - Is it actually useful and doesn't take up much battery?
I found out about the app's installed service, I'm not sure if it would take up more battery by enabling it to clean memory and stop apps. Has anyone found this installed service useful? Will it unexpectedly close apps like sleep cycle that acts as an alarm and snore recorder overnight?

After 3.5 years of use, my Android device (a Xiaomi RedMi 3S) has its internal storage full almost to capacity. I can run its cleaning routine, I can remove photos I snapped and music files I may have stored on it - but over time, more files beyond just that seem to add up. Using the system settings cleaner - same thing: It helps somewhat, but over time, stuff accumulates that it doesn't clean. I would like, or rather, I need, to remove more data. To do so, I need to be able to differentiate between apps themselves, their reproducible data, their logs/junk leftovers, and the history of interactions, messages and other artifacts due to use. I also need to know what can be deleted and what requires some app-specific deletion facilities. Obviously I'm not asking for a long list of all of this information for every app; but I would like your advice on how to _gather_ such information. Alternatively - other courses of action for clearing up space which I might not have thought about (Maybe - migration of data to my SD card?) Note: In case it matters, my Settings | Storage screen says: * Apps & app data: 13.37 GB * Pictures, Videos: 1.94 GB <- Where are those hiding? :-( * Audio: 4.72 MB * Cached data: 539.65 MB <- After running the cleaner * Other files: 2.86 GB * System Storage: 6.24 GB
