Google Lens has a feature in which the user can download offline language packs so translations can be performed without an internet connection. That sounds great, but it appears to be very buggy. Language downloads often get stuck at 80-83%, and often even if they reach 100%, they never get added as offline languages. To make matters worse, after failed downloads, Google Lens often no longer thinks the offline language translation files are available for some languages. It's a buggy mess.
How does one clear all the data/cache for Google Lens in Android 16, hopefully without clearing anything else? Clicking on the icons in the Google Lens 'Translate from' screen does not work properly.

I have a Asus Zenfone 2 and a few days ago it ran out of battery and turned off. Then after I charged it up and restarted it, it wouldn't turn on. It gets to the logo and the loading circle and just gets stuck there forever.
I can get into recovery, but can't do anything in recovery, because everything gives this error:
> E:failed to mount /cache (invalid argument)
Trying to wipe cache, factory reset the phone, mount /system, flash a ROM from SD card, ADB sideload, everything gives the error multiple times. Factory reset formats /data fine, but when it gets to /cache, gives the error and aborts.
Same thing with fastboot. I tried to flash TWRP (I have stock recovery) and I tried to erase and format cache through fastboot, but both give this error:
> FAILED (remote: 'Can not mount the necessary partition')
>
>fastboot: error: Command failed
Is there anything I can do to format the phone or somehow rebuild the partitions without being able to flash anything via recovery or fastboot?
I don't know if tools like AFT or xfstk can do anything for me.
Edit: I don't think the EMMC chip is dead, because the recovery partition is still fine, I can still boot into recovery and when I did a factory reset, it formatted /data without any errors, only had an error when it started formatting /cache.
When I was looking for a solution to this problem, I read somewhere that sometimes when the device gets interrupted, like when it shuts down suddenly, to prevent data loss android would change permissions on the /cache partition to read only or something like that. This would certainly explain what happened to my phone. Just need to think of a way to access ADB shell on it to try to change permissions. Shell doesn't work in ADB sideload mode, that's the only ADB thing the stock recovery has. Is that a similar thing in fastboot by any chance?

While researching app behavior on Android—particularly on Samsung devices—I noticed that many apps (e.g., YouTube, Google Play Services for AR, Samsung-specific preinstalled apps) accumulate cache data even when they haven’t been opened or actively used. This led me to question whether cache data could be used to infer user behavior, especially in the context of advertising.
What I’ve observed:
Apps like Samsung Notes and Samsung Cloud build up cache despite never being launched (according to my device usage diagnostics).
Samsung devices often come preloaded with apps and services tied to advertising platforms (e.g., AdGear Technologies, Inc., listed as a Samsung-affiliated advertiser on iabprivacy.com).
Cache typically doesn’t contain personal identifiers, but aggregated cache data across multiple apps could potentially reveal patterns of user behavior or preferences.
My question:
Is it technically possible for a device manufacturer or third-party service to use app cache data (even from unused apps) to infer user behavior or interests for advertising purposes?
I’m particularly interested in:
Whether Android or Samsung’s system services can access and correlate cache data across apps.
If cache data (e.g., image thumbnails, preloaded content, timestamps) can be used to build behavioral profiles.
Any known mechanisms or permissions that would allow this kind of cross-app cache analysis.
Cache is often overlooked in privacy discussions because it’s assumed to be non-personal. However, I’d like to know whether others—especially those with expertise in Android internals, Java/Kotlin development, or digital privacy law—have insights into whether cache could be exploited in this way.
Additionally, while it’s true that system apps may have access to broader system-level data, most users don’t have root access by default on Samsung phones. This makes it difficult for users to verify what data is being accessed or how it’s being used. From a transparency standpoint, this lack of visibility is part of why cache behavior—even from unused apps—raises valid concerns.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ with 64 GB.
I deleted almost every app (including WhatsApp). At this moment, my archive says that there are 19.57 GB of files in a group named "Other" (or "others", I don't know because the name is in Italian and the name is "Altro")
1. I downloaded cleaning apps
2. Searched for hidden files
3. Partitioned caches
4. Connected the phone to the computer
5. Searched for videos on YouTube but they all advertise the same app which doesn't work
But I can't delete these files at all (I honestly would like to avoid getting to the point of having to reset the phone)
But 19.57 GB of space occupied by unknown things out of a maximum of 64 GB seems excessive to me, taking into account that it tells me there are:
1. 11.63 GB of "System".
2. 8.57 GB of "Application" I can not uninstall (in the group "Application", it says that I have 11.30 GB of application, but currently looking at the app store, I actually only have 2.72 GB of apps installed)
(11.63 + 19.57 + 8.57) / 64 = 62.14%
I have more than 60% of the storage memory occupied by files that are not mine, and since I cannot delete system applications, I would like to at least be able to delete the "other" group.
Could someone please help me? I've been trying to figure this out for months.

Following Google's guide for flashing/restoring the stock Android ROM, and initially using the default *flash-all.sh* shell script to flash the stock Android ROM to my device, I noticed that I am not able to do this successfully on the second consecutive attempt.
When flashing the stock Android ROM the first time (usually when flashing the stock over a custom ROM or flashing the stock recovery over the existing TWRP recovery), the first attempt successfully flashes the stock Android ROM to the device and I am presented with the Android setup wizard.
However, if I repeat the same flashing process once more, the device is stuck on the Android logo boot animation.
I read that this is caused by the cache partition not being erased before flashing.
Several tutorials have claimed that the cache needs to be wiped from within the recovery, and although I have tested this to be successful, I would prefer a method that can erase the cache during the flashing process (or an
adb
or fastboot
alternative) without having to re-enter recovery.
I have tried adding the fastboot
commands to the *flash-all.sh* shell script to erase cache
and erase userdata
, either before or after flashing all of the partitions with those of the stock image, but it does not solve the issue.
My device is the Huawei Nexus 6p and I am using the latest stock Android ROM for Angler (8.1.0 (OPM7.181205.001, Dec 2018)), which does not contain a *cache.img* file (removed since Android 8.0).
I am aware that I could extract the *cache.img* file from an earlier stock image (e.g. Android 7.0) and flash
that with fastboot
, but I'd prefer not to have to rely on two different stock images, and one just for the archived *cache.img*.
My customised *flash-all.sh* shell script, inspired by examples here and here , is as follows:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-angler-angler-03.84.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
sleep 2
fastboot flash radio radio-angler-angler-03.88.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
sleep 2
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
sleep 2
# no cache image (cache.img) in Android 8.0+, instead:
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
# does not seem to flash images, even if extraced into the PWD
fastboot -w update image-angler-opm7.181205.001.zip
# ... which is the equivalent to (in the correct order)
fastboot flash boot boot.img
sleep 2
fastboot flash system system.img
sleep 2
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img
sleep 2
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
sleep 2
fastboot reboot
Q: What command(s) can I use during the flashing process (i.e within the bootloader) to successfully erase the cache partition so that I am not stuck on the boot animation logo upon startup?

Is there a reliable, reproducible way to clear DNS cache on Android Nougat 7.0?
I know there is at least one other question like this but that one was from 8 years ago and I hope I can ask again and see what people are doing these days.
To explain a bit more my setup:
I am testing a simple web page loading in Chrome browser with Wireshark packet capture to see the DNS requests. I am also running
I am testing over WiFi with a Moto G5 running Android 7.0 and it is rooted so I can run commands from within
dnsmasq
on my LAN and have mapped my webpages name: mymovies
to the correct IP address of the machine on my LAN that the web server is on. So http://mymovies
should work and it does load.
The DNS lookups initially start with the DHCP server appending the DNS suffix (.home
) so in the packet trace I see a DNS request for mymovies.home
which fails because I don't have an IP address mapping for that in dnsmasq.conf
. So a second DNS lookup for just mymovies
appears and is successful.
Mostly I find that subsequent DNS lookups are always just for mymovies
and never again for mymovies.home
no matter what I try to clear the DNS cache:

adb shell
to the OS.
I have tried lots of things like:
1. Closing down Chrome browser and starting it up again.
2. chrome://net-internals/#dns
to clear host cache and flushing the sockets too
3. Settings > Apps > Chrome > Storage > Clear Cache
4. ndc resolver clearnetdns wlan0
The only thing that seemed to work for me was turning the phone off and on again. After restart I opened http://mymovies
in Chrome on the phone. The page loaded and in the Wireshark trace I see the first DNS request for mymovies.home
which fails as usual followed by a DNS request for mymovies
that succeeds. I then closed down that tab and opened a new one and loaded the page again.. I did this twice. Each time now I see a dns request for mymovies
only.. it doesn't even try mymovies.home
.
I restarted dnsmasq
server and the first DNS lookup after that was for mymovies.home
followed by a lookup for mymovies
. But since then the DNS lookups are now only ever for mymovies
. This is despite restarting the dnsmasq
server a few times and trying the four so-called DNS cache clearing steps listed above.
But to confuse the matters, I tried the trick of switching into and back out of Airplane Mode. Now when I load my little test web page a few times it doesn't seem to cache at all anymore? Loading the webpage always initially gives a DNS look up for mymovies.home
which fails then a lookup for mymovies
that succeeds. Even after restarting the phone the DNS lookups have now stopped caching completely and it firstly tries mymovies.home
every time!
I think this caching behavior is normal and expected but I'd just like a way to clear that cache so it goes back to trying mymovies.home
without me having to restart the phone.
I'm not sure if the IPv6 has anything to do with things? In my router I have specified the IP address of the Raspberry Pi on my LAN that dnsmasq
is running on so the router directs DNS requests to it.
I don't want the page to stop caching OR to always cache. I just want to be able to clear the DNS cache in a predictable manner so I can make the DNS request for mymovies.home
appear once followed by the expected DNS caching.

On Xiaomi Mi Note 10 I can't clean the caches of apps.
A workaround for cleaning the caches that worked partially was to make the Google PlayStore display the warning about missing disk space for an app update (by filling all available disk space) and clicking "Zum Speicherplatz" (go to disk space) then clicking on "Data in cache" to delete that cache. However, that does not delete all the app caches, only what is detected by the playstore and cache-cleaning apps that do not show the same don't work at all.
When I try deleting the app caches with a cleaning app, it runs without an error but no disk space is actually freed up afterwards. Also it displays that lots of system app each have a cache of the same size (for example 50 MB each and 1 GB overall) and doesn't display the actual apps with large caches, but this may vary. It does not run without an error with the cleaning app "1 tap cleaner" which doesn't work at all because the buttons are greyed out when it tries doing the below automatically.
When I go to manage apps and open an app there, the "delete data" (and the "force quit") button(s) are disabled (greyed out) and "disk space" displays "0,00 B". On a previous phone the same apps also had a lot of data in the cache but I could always delete them manually and with cache cleaning apps.
Here's how I know that the caches of some apps are larger and that they haven't been deleted (beyond that there should be more disk space left): there's a stock app "Deep cleansing" ("Tiefenreinigung") and it shows which apps take up a lot of disk space (when clicking on "Apps" on the page). The buttons for the apps are also greyed out for but I could delete their large caches on another Android phone. Screenshots:
----
An app taking up a lot of storage space with its cache that is not shown in the first screenshot is the stock Gallery app by Mi UI which can't be deinstalled and also has the delete data button greyed out. At least that what a scan with SD Maid shows.
When I go to "Deep cleansing" ("Tiefenreinigung") app data at the bottom only shows Uninstall (no more uninstall button). It shows the data size right next to the apps but these can't be sorted and **most apps show 0.00B** which is clearly false.
A way to still see the largest apps is to use the app **Cx file explorer -> Analyze -> Apps** and it shows multiple apps that have a file-size much larger than it should be which doesn't change or doesn't change much after deleting the cache with a cache cleaner app that shows the same thing as Playstore for deleting caches. Their filesize is much smaller when uninstalling and reinstalling the app. In the right screenshot you can see how the delete data button is disabled and this is the case for most apps. **Is this normal for this phone?** The stock cleaning app doesn't delete as much data as the app says it would delete so even that can't delete that data.
The only cache cleaning tools that work look like
this (screenshot taken from here )
but it also doesn't delete all the cache when clicking on "Cached data":

How do I get rid of the extras?
Things I've tried:
1. Clearing the data and cache in the Settings app
2. Stopping the app
3. Uninstall and reinstall the app
4. Factory reset the device
More times than I can count, and in less than 1 minute, there are still multiple Google Play Services and Google Play Service system caches running, and the multiples are not a part of the Samsung Secure Folder.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. I can send screenshots and any other evidence to help.

And the Pixel Buds have been renamed to "Carl's Pixel Buds" but they're not connected. Trying to connect by tapping on the entry in bluetooth, nothing happens.

I'm curious that some apps I rarely use seem to have huge data sizes, and I'd like to see what info they are collecting. Is there any kind of software that would let me see the data area of each app? I'm using android 9. I'd prefer a way that doesn't need to root my device if possible.
Thanks in advance.

I am using an app on android
I have confirmed that :
- if I clear the app data or even reinstall the app from google play, the app does have a specific behaviour
- if I install the app on a completely new device (I'm actually using bluestack android emulator), the app does have a different behaviour
=> hence, what is the data specific to an android install an app can access? how can I change this data without reinstalling the entire os?
