I wanted to know if is possible to project (using Chromecast, or a similar technology), a Google Play book onto an Android television screen. You could then have pinch to zoom or drag on the Android device to have everything displayed onto television. The same goes for web pages, which could readjust to size on the television screen. With current screen mirroring technology the screen size is just mirrored and a subset of the entire television screen is displayed, but I can't have the area enlarged and zoomed. Also, I am not sure whether television screen resolution would be adequate, but theoretically,I think, it would. I would like to be able to read a Google Play book on the television and control panning and zooming from my phone. Thanks.

If, from the file name and date, I can guess what extension they should have, I can usually get them to open by adding that extension manually. Does anyone know of an app, or a command, that examines a file and returns a filetype? Ideally one that can then append the correct extension. I believe most of these files are probably ebooks, PDFs, or some kind of media. If any of them are actually exes, I want to delete them, not run them.

A while ago, I asked a question which has been deleted by Community > Some Android apps are in fact ebooks. For example, Learn Lisp > > Is it possible to convert android app ebook to pdf or some other document file types? Are there apps to > do that? Andrew T. commented that: > For this particular app: get the APK, open it with zip viewer, and > browse the /assets folder; they're in HTML files. I can't answer if > there's an automated way to convert it to PDF because the content > structure will not be the same for other apps. Firelord commented that > @AndrewT. good approach. My questions are: - How can I get the APK file of an app after installing it from Google Play? - Once I find the APK file of an app, can I copy it out of my android phone to my Ubuntu laptop and then extract the hidden document file in the apk file? Or do I have to extract on my android phone? Thanks.

Personal google play books, how to make them voice-readable?
I am trying to load a couple of personal ebooks on my google play account, so that they are readable by google play books. The books are DRM-free, also. Is there any way, to make them voice-readable? If not, what are the prerequisites? To all my tries till now, the "read aloud" option is disabled.

I've uploaded a lot of ePub files to google play books, assuming I would be able to download them again at any time. I now have a new computer and would like to access them, but Google doesn't seem to allow downloads of eBooks previously uploaded, which seems odd to me. Since there is no encryption or DRM or anything on them, I figured there must be a way to get them back. Here's what I tried so far: - On my linux computer, I installed virtualbox, and installed an Android system there following this guide . - I logged into my Google Account on my virtual Android device and opened one of the eBooks I would like to get back. - I used the vdfuse utility to mount the .vdi image and navigated to the location where the eBooks are stored, which is /data/data/com.google.android.apps.books/files/accounts/{your google account}/volumes according to this thread . Now, however, I'm a bit at a loss. If I look at one of the eBooks, they look like this: ./cover.png ./cover_thumbnail.png ./res2 ./res2/{some-obscure-id}= ./segments ./segments/html{some-index} Naturally, I assumed that the segments/html* files would be, well, html files. However, that is not true - they seem to be binary files and just list as data when queried with the linux file utility. What do I do with these files to get back an ePub? Or should I have taken a different approach to this altogether?

Google Play Books - Navigate back to reading passage text
Often in ebooks there are links embedded in paragraphs that reference some image or figure in the previous chapters or sections. Once I've clicked on it (and viewed that image), how do I get back to the paragraph I was reading? Hitting android's back button always exits the app.

However I cannot open the media using my Android 4.1 (AOSP) device. The non-ascii characters in my filesystem show up as just question marks, e.g. /mnt/sdcard/manga/??????/. The error behavior that various apps will give range from File does not exist (File Manager) to nothing at all (PerfectViewer).

So the actual problem that I'm trying to solve is to read books via TTS on my phone *and also* read the same book as text at the same place. Every ebook reader I've tried that does this sucks in various ways; I'll name them just to save y'all the trouble of suggesting them unless they've improved dramatically in the last few months: Moon Reader + Pro, Voice Dream (AKA "Reader" (*really*?)), FBReader TTS, @Voice. The other thing is that running TTS seems to take some noticeable battery/CPU. So I thought why not do the TTS in advance, save it as an audio file, read it in Pocket Cast, and have an ebook program be synchronized to the position I'm at in the audio file? I mean, there are programs that sync an ebook with an Audible file, right? Same thing, right? The thing is, AFAICT the *only* thing that does this is Kindle/Whispersync. I can't figure out how to take advantage of this; seems like I could provide my own audio file to go with Kindle books, but do the Kindle books need to be specially marked? Does the audio file? Maybe there are other apps or combinations of apps that can do this? I'm highly technical, and while I've not programmed against Android I've programmed in perhaps 20 languages over my life and I'm sure I can figure it out, so writing actual code is an an option, but I have no idea where to begin; any thoughts?

How can I make the Kindle app in an emulator work just like on a physical device? **Background:** I tend to buy ebooks directly from publishers and then send them to Amazon Cloud Drive to be converted into what Amazon calls "Personal Documents." Doing this allows me to synchronize annotations and bookmarks between my phone and tablet, just like with ebooks purchased from Amazon. However, I'd like to get those annotations and bookmarks on my computer screen -- it's more convenient for me to type code while the ebook is up on the same screen, rather than having to keep shifting between computer and tablet. As others have noticed, the Kindle Cloud Reader and PC/Mac-based readers don't support Personal Documents fully (I believe the Cloud Reader doesn't support them at all; the native apps, last I knew, allowed you to sideload documents but don't synchronize them, but it's been a while since I tried); so I thought that since I have some Android virtual machines (using [Genymotion](https://www.genymotion.com/)) I might as well install the Android Kindle app there. I was able to do that, and when I go to Amazon's Manage My Content and Devices page I can see the new device, but I can't seem to find a way to assign that device an Amazon email like my other, physical, devices. I also never see the Personal Documents in its list of books the way I do on my phone and tablet. It used to be the case (around October 2014) that when I ran the Kindle app in the emulator, it displayed a progress spinner and "Checking for new items & syncing…" for an indefinite amount of time (I remember leaving it spinning for over an hour); now that doesn't happen, but still my Personal Documents didn't show up. In addition, if I reboot the virtual machine, the app asks me for my login information as if I had never run it on the device before. **So my main question is:** how can I make the Kindle app in an emulator work just like on a physical device? **Secondarily,** I'm wondering whether the Kindle app somehow detect it's running in an emulator, and refuses to allow full access for that reason -- and if so, how; or is this some sort of subtle bug in the interaction between emulation and app? *I originally asked this [on Ebooks beta StackExchange](https://ebooks.stackexchange.com/questions/2491/amazon-kindle-app-and-personal-documents-on-android-emulator).*
